Dec/2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

When you look at the raging success of films ‘Moneyball‘ and ‘The Blind Side‘, besides being highly bankable projects, they have another thing in common, both began as a novel that flowed from the pen of author Michael Lewis. When Paramount Pictures turned its creative eye towards another Lewis novel, ‘The Big Short‘, it came as no surprise that several acting giants have agreed to headline the adaptation, together.

Film Review: ‘Gringo’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 8th, 2018

Gringo‘ follows a straight-laced business man named Harold (David Oyelowo) who works for a medical marijuana company run by Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Elaine (Charlize Theron), who are planning a secret merger they don’t want Harold to discover. In order for the merger to go through, they must clean up the books at their Mexican facility which has been selling a “weed pill” to a cartel leader to help the company financially. At home, Harold’s wife (Thandie Newton) is cheating on him, further pushing Harold to the edge. For some reason, Amanda Seyfried shows up as the girlfriend of some guitar store employee sent to Mexico so steal some drugs from the same facility Harold is there to see. Eventually Harold ends up stuck in Mexico through a series of kidnappings and ploys, forcing Richard to ask his brother (a former mercenary), played by Sharlto Copley, to rescue Harold from Mexico.

Hey guys, Jana here,

is-ash-ketchum-the-best-choice-to-lead-a-pokemon-live-action-movie-964934

Legendary managed to catch a live-action Pokémon movie deal. We knew it had to happen, I’m honestly a little shocked it hasn’t happened before now. In the wake of the massive wave that Pokémon GO left in it’s wake, anything related to Pokémon is a hot commodity.

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 7th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

willferrell-645x370

HBO is looking to switch up their Sunday nights from the iron grip ‘Game of Thrones‘ currently holds on the network. The powers that be have realized that heavy, serial drama is what their customers love so they’re checking out a few new sources to come in to play as the world of Westeros could be wrapping up. Among the projects in contention for the coveted Sunday night slots are ‘Succession‘ and ‘Mogadishu, Minnesota‘.

Film Review: ‘The Big Short’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Christian-Bale-The-Big-Short-Movie-Still-800x533

We all remember the horrible times from 2007-2010 with all that went on with the housing crises and stock market crash. Tons of people lost their homes, went broke, lost their jobs, and even committed suicide. This was all due to the major banks and loan officers, giving people bad loans no matter what their income situation was. After a little while, everyone started to default on their home loans and all of the banks failed, which forced the hardworking middle class people to bail them out with our own money.

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

Check Out The Trailer For ‘The Big Short’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 22nd, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

81wBzBcSclL

The Big Short‘ comes from director Adam McKay, and if you’re familiar with his films and Will Ferrell, you know the two go hand in hand. ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy‘ and the sequel, ‘Step Brothers‘, ‘Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby‘ and more, this project takes a departure from the funny and drops hip-deep into the dramatic.

Hey guys, Jana here,

get-hard-poster-600x373

In what comes across as a particular ‘New Guy‘-ish theme is ‘Get Hard‘, the newest comedic offering from Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. The two are absolute anarchy on a screen alone, so together they will bring the house down, the big house that is. We’ve gotten our hands on the extremely RED BAND trailer of the new pic and I laughed part of my considerable ass off, I wish it REALLY worked that way, right?!

Hey guys, Jana here,

Brad Pitt has found another Michael Lewis bestseller he hopes will be just as big a hit as ‘Moneyball‘ was. ‘The Big Short‘ is a non-fiction book about the build-up of the housing and credit bubble during the 2000s. It spent 28 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

FLNT_ART4C01_CACS_50TH

Warner Bros. is developing a reboot of ‘The Flinstones‘ again. Only this time, they want to do it as a full length animated feature rather than a live action one. Back almost twenty years ago, Universal made the live action version that had John Goodman as Fred Flinstone, Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble, Elizabeth Perkins, Rosie O’Donnell, and even Elizabeth Taylor. Despite the film looking cool, it wasn’t that great of a film. And the sequel that came soon after was even worse. But it was of course going to fail, because the movie became infamous for having over 30 writers pen the script.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues….On?

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 21st, 2014

Jana B. here,

Anchorman

Remember way back at the end of October when Adam McKay told us that for every joke we laugh at in one of his movies that there are at least a dozen jokes that didn’t make it into the final cut? Then he told us he was wanting to ultimately re-release ‘Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues‘ with an entirely different version than originally seen in theaters? OK, well, if you remember that, THAT is what is going to happen! The mind boggles that there is more to be added, but there is a lot!

For the fans of Ron Burgundy, awaiting the December release of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, just got a little easier. And a little Scotch-ier. Those of us that share a taste palate with the fictional anchorman are in for a sweet treat. Ben and Jerry’s announced its newest limited batch ice cream flavor, “Scotchy Scotch Scotch”. Sadly, there is NO alcohol content to the ice cream, but if you’re dedicated enough, you can make your own boozey float!

Step Brothers movie image Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly

I love a good buddy movie and won’t even pretend that I don’t. That being said, I loved Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly teaming up in Step Brothers! Needless to say, this news about a new film from Sony and Ferrell’s joint company, Gary Sanchez Productions, with Adam McKay, got me excited for what this movie will have in store. Sony is remembering that sweet payday that Step Brothers brought them when it earned $100 million in domestic box office sales, I’m sure. Devil’s Night is the name of this potential comedy gold. If that name doesn’t evoke memories from movies like The Crow and Grosse Pointe Blank, well you just haven’t been paying attention.

‘Treme’ Returns for 3rd Season Sept. 23!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 22nd, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

First, the people came back. Then, the crime. Now, more than two years after the near death of a great city, the money is starting to arrive, which would sound like a solution if this were some place other than New Orleans, and this was some other era but America at the millennium. For the people of New Orleans, even the promises of redevelopment come with strings attached, and every dollar that shows up – whether from government disaster relief, or from venture capital, or even from those seeking to remake New Orleans in the wake of Katrina – carries with it new dynamics and new risks. National interest has waned, moving on to the next headline, but those who know and love the Crescent City have no choice. They must find their way back to what matters in the life of their city. However, little of what they can bring to bear yields a quick result, and nothing about New Orleans – its government, its police department and courtrooms, its school system – works as it should. Nothing is easy.  In the end, their only weapons are community. And culture.
