Dallas Fan Days Comic Con 2018!
by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 27th, 2018A couple of times a year, Fax Expo HQ puts on a great Comic Book Show, complete with celebrities, voice actors, comic book artists and writers, and cosplayers. This year with Dallas Fan Days is no different, which took place on October 19-21st at the Irving Convention Center. This year, the big draw was ‘Dragonball Z‘, which the main voice actor Chris Sabat was in attendance and had a ton of people wanting his autograph and picture. Dallas Fan Days even had an entire Dragonball Z setup with cosplayers, artwork and statues. It looked great.
Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Bloodline’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 1st, 2018Taking its cues from the 1970s and 1980s Italian horror films of Lucio Fulci and Mario Bava, the new movie ‘Bloodline‘ delivers in story, style, music, and a killer performance from Sean William Scott. Stifler’s mom would be proud. The average moviegoer will draw parallels to the Showtime series ‘Dexter‘, which will be easy, but ‘Bloodline‘ is so much more than that. The visual style of the film almost feels like we are in a world of ‘Suspiria‘ with a ton of blues and reds throughout that accent each room when something vicious is about to happen. Along with a vintage sounding synth score which is all the rage now by Trevor Gureckis, all of these beautiful yet horrific elements give birth to a wonderful horror film, both metaphorically and realistically.
An Evening With Beverly Luff Linn Interviews at Fantastic Fest 2018!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 28th, 2018I had the pleasure to sit down with the ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘ filmmakers at Fantastic Fest 2018 this year, including Jim Hosking and David Wike. You’d remember them mostly from their previous movie ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘. Their new film ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘ is a sweet, odd, and magical movie about love, romance, past relationships, and music. The film stars Aubrey Plaza, Jemaine Clement, Emile Hirsch, Craig Robinson, and more. See the full review HERE.
‘You Might Be The Killer’ Interviews at Fantastic Fest 2018!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2018I had the pleasure to sit down with the ‘You Might Be The Killer‘ filmmakers at Fantastic Fest 2018 this year, including Thomas P. Vitale, Griff Furst, and Brett Simmons. Their film ‘YOU MIGHT BE THE KILLER‘ is a fun-as-hell movie about a group of camp counselors being brutally murdered one-by-one by a masked killer. The head counselor calls his friend back in the city for help since she is a horror movie aficionado and could help him survive. See the full review HERE.
Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Apostle’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2018Easily my favorite movie of Fantastic Fest so far, Apostle is the type of movie that will stay with you hours after watching it. Gareth Evans wrote and directed this disturbing tale of Thomas (Dan Stevens) who infiltrates a religious cult on a remote island in order to rescue his kidnapped sister. Any further descent into the plot would ruin surprises that were a joy to discover during the movie. Evans’ ability to depict brutality and rage is second to none. What’s that? You haven’t seen The Raid or its sequel? Go watch those then come back to this review.
Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Hold the Dark’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2018Jeremy Saulnier has now made three movies about the darkness at the fringes of civilization. In Blue Ruin it was a revenge tale where a man rejected societal expectations to get his pound of flesh. In Green Room, we follow the journey of a punk rock band trapped by neo-Nazis in a woods far from help. In Hold the Dark, he explores the darkness of remote Alaska to make one of the bleakest movies in recent memory.
Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Murder Me, Monster’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2018Murder Me, Monster is a horror film out of Argentina that turned out to be absolutely bonkers. In the remote regions of Argentina, a woman’s body is found with no head. Cruz, an officer assigned to the crime, begins to investigate what is going on. While Cruz is looking into the death, he is also having an affair with a married woman. The woman’s husband is named David and he has gone missing again and Cruz sets off to find him. Cruz finds David in an abandoned village in the mountains.
Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Suspiria’ 2018!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2018Fantastic Fest’s Secret Screening this year was the remake of Suspiria starring Dakota Johnson and Tilda Swinton. Everyone in the theater loved it and the buzz in the Drafthouse afterward was fever pitch. Every review I have seen so far has praised it up and down. Unfortunately, this is not going to be one of those reviews. I recently rewatched the original Suspiria because to say this movie is very hyped in the horror community would be an understatement so I was prepared to see it next month. As the festival got closer and Suspiria wasn’t announced as an opening or closing film it slowly became the odds-on favorite for the secret screening. As I sat down to watch, I was truly excited.
Fantastic Fest Film Review: ‘Halloween’ 2018!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 21st, 2018The original Halloween is barred none the best of the slasher genre. It is a simple story, a young boy kills his sister and is put in a mental institution, 16 years later he breaks out and goes on a rampage murdering people on Halloween. Michael Myers is terrifying in a way that Jason or Freddy isn’t. He feels more “realistic” in his behaviors in the first movie. Michael is just an unstoppable force of death who Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) runs in to. All of the sequels to Halloween try too hard to explain things or add significance. Sure, there are some fun entries that with the right amount of inebriation are quick fun. But ultimately they all abandon what was so great about the first, its simplicity. Halloween, 2018, erases all of the sequels in just 3-4 lines of dialogue and goes right back to the roots of what made the original such a groundbreaking horror film.

From the great musical maestro, Andrew Lloyd Webber comes new music to rock you out of your seat. Dallas Summer Musicals presents School of Rock the Musical, based on the film of the same name. Interview with Donnell Rawlings!
by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 2nd, 2018I had the distinct pleasure to talk with actor/comedian Donnell Rawlings about his new show ‘HOLLYWEED‘ amongst other things. ‘HOLLYWEED‘ is a new TV show pilot that stars Rawlings and Kevin Smith, the latter of which wrote and directed the show. It’s a lot like ‘CLERKS‘, but instead taking place at a convenience store, it’s at a cannabis dispensary. It’s fantastic, to say the least. Donnell Rawlings is mostly known for starring in Chappelle Show on comedy central.
Fantastic Fest 2018 First Wave of Motion Pictures Announced!
by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 1st, 2018Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. This is something you won’t want to miss.
The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.
Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.
Theatre Review: ‘Love Never Dies’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 27th, 2018A quick survey to theatergoers asking for their favorite musical or what comes to mind as the most memorable, and the response would no doubt have Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ high on the list. Viewed by over 130 million people since debuting in 1986, this gothic darling has become somewhat of an unstoppable force. Hoping to continue the magic, Webber has followed-up with ‘Love Never Dies‘ after years of planning. But as with any sequel, there’s inevitably going to be skepticism and divided sentiments. If one can look past the questionable plot and magnified melodrama, this ‘Victorian Circus’ dazzles with its radiant set design, prolific props, and alluringly spectral atmosphere.
Why you need Need ‘Texas Star Burlesque’ in your life!
by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 23rd, 2018
I believe Axl Rose said it best back in 1987 – “Take me down to Paradise City where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.” This is what I think of when a burlesque shows heads into town. However, you receive so much more, especially with the brand new show ‘Texas Star Burlesque‘ had their first extravaganza in the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood of Downtown Dallas on July Saturday the 14th at Trees. Not only are the people devastatingly beautiful, and while there wasn’t green grass inside of Trees, you can sense the paradise and glistening stage and lights that amplified these talented performers. When the music hit the sold-out crowd, the cheers were turned up to 11, and the lights were as bright as they could be, you could feel the sense of joy wonder and excitement between everyone in attendance. It was truly a Paradise City.

Theatre Review: ‘The Lion King’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 16th, 2018Ever since ‘The Lion King’ (1994 film) debuted in movie theaters, the musical’s popularity has conquered more than just that box office. Only third in line to the thrown of Disney’s top-grossing films, it was inevitable that this animated picture would be adapted into a stage production. Satisfying the lingering hunger of audiences, ‘The Lion King’ (1997 musical) is not only Broadway’s third longest-running show, but it surpassed the film’s success as Broadway’s top-grossing musical ever. Combined with phenomenal puppetry, vibrant costumes, a sensational set design and a disreputably epic soundtrack, it’s easy to see why ‘The Lion King’ has been crowned the best. Be prepared for a royal experience—this interactive musical will pounce on your emotions and leave your heart roaring with excitement!

Since the inception of The Second City, many talented entertainers have started there, including Bill Murray, Tina Fey, John Candy, Steve Carrell, Amy Poehler, Stephen Colbert, and many others.

Dan’s 2018 Oscar Picks!
by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 3rd, 2018Here are my Oscar Predictions. I haven’t seen many of the shorts or documentaries so I didn’t even bother with those, but I have seen everything else that is nominated for the big categories except Call me by Your Name. Also, I fell asleep during The Post, but so did everyone.
As a hard and fast rule, I refuse to recognize any recent best picture winners until a movie comes along that was better on every single filmmaking level than Mad Max: Fury Road. This year is no different, so congrats to Fury Road.

It’s half horror and half comedy with an excellent satire behind it all.

Wrestlemania 34: The Miz Beats Lesnar for the Universal Title!
by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 24th, 2017Written By: Bryan Kluger
Wrestlemania 34 is less than 6 months away with Survivor Series and Royal Rumble just around the corner. I do believe that the goal is to have Brock Lesnar in the main event at Wrestlemania 34 with the title in hand. I also believe he aims to lose that title on April 8, 2018 as well. Just not to the usual suspects (Reigns, Strowman, Joe).
Dr. WWE or: How I Learned to Stop Complaining and Fix The Product
by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 18th, 2017Written by: Bryan Kluger…..
The world of pro-wrestling has been around for many years and has certainly seen its ups and downs, most noticeably being the WWE. There have been many promotions through the decades, which have made a lot of people very successful and it continues to this day. At some point down the road though, there was one company that surpassed everyone by leaps and bounds and brought the pro-wrestling arena into the mainstream. Of course I’m talking about World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), or the artist formally known as World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in its teenage angst years. For a long while, there were two major companies that featured the best of the best in the pro-wrestling world. WWE and WCW. They didn’t play well together at all on and off screen.

Theatre Review: ‘Fun Home’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 18th, 2017Hi everyone, Bryan here….
‘Fun Home‘ won Best Musical at the Tony awards in 2015 and is now on the traveling road circuit across America. With a great message, good performances, and a couple of good songs, ‘Fun Home‘ is enjoyable, sweet, and tragic, but maybe not the big award winner it was a couple of years ago. In fact, I think this story would’ve been better told in a more intimate setting, and not the big amazing theatres it’s been playing at. With a very simple set and a very intimate story, I never really felt a sense of connection. ‘Fun Home‘ is a coming-of-age story of a woman who comes out as a lesbian and her gay father who struggles with his current family and coming out of the closet.

WWE: Money in the Bank 2017 Predictions!
by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 16th, 2017Hi everyone, Bryan here….
Strung 20 feet high over the center of squared circle, there hangs a metal briefcase with a contract inside. That contract guarantees one WWE superstar a match at anytime, anywhere for the biggest championship in the business. On July 18th in 2010, WWE held their first ever Money in the Bank PPV held in Kansas City, which was met with an abundant amount of praise. The WWE superstars must climb a very tall ladder and unhook the briefcase to win the match. There are no rules, no disqualifications, and all weapons and interferences are legal.

The Royal Rumble 2017!
by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2017Hi everyone, Bryan here…
The road to Wrestlemania is officially underway as the 2017 Royal Rumble has a winner. Perhaps the second biggest WWE event of the year, the winner of the Rumble goes on to the main event of Wrestlemania to challenge the Champion on the grandest stage of them all. This 29th Royal Rumble took place in San Antonio, Texas at the Alamodome and had over 50,000 people in attendance. Before the Rumble match itself, there were several championship matches with interesting outcomes, which should tell the tale of what’s to come at Wrestlemania 33 in April. Now here’s a taste of the good, the bad, and the ugly of the Royal Rumble 2017.
This is What the 89th Oscar Nominations Should Have Looked Like….
by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 24th, 2017Hi everyone, Bryan here….
The 89th Oscars were announced today. These are supposed to be the Best Achievements in Filmmaking on all levels. However, year after year, The Academy and “their infinite wisdom” choose to pick dull films that should never be nominated. In fact, I bet you could go through most of the Winners of each year and realize you only watched that film or performance once and never thought about it again. At least The Academy had a good bit of diversity this year, but other than that – these Oscar nominations are boring, dull, and made me go to sleep just watching the equally not-fun announcement telecast.
WWE: Who Will Win the 2017 ‘Royal Rumble’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 20th, 2017Hi everyone, Bryan here….
It’s the MOST wonderful time of the year! No, not the holidays! It’s time for the Royal Rumble, which takes place in January and paves the way for the main event at Wrestlemania every year. Well at least for the last 30 years it has. The Royal Rumble is a Pay-Per-View put on by WWE every year with the Royal Rumble match consisting of 30 superstars entering the ring every 90 seconds. The only way to be eliminated is if you’re thrown over the top rope and your feet land on the ground until one is left in the ring standing. That one winner goes on to the main event at Wrestlemania to challenge the Champion on the grandest stage of all.

Wrestle Kingdom 11 in Japan, which is New Japan Pro Wrestling’s biggest event, similar to Wrestlemania. We dissect every match and discuss the reasons on why to watch NJPW, as well as who to watch out for in coming months. This is one of the best PPVs I’ve ever seen.

Favorite WWE Matches of 2016!!
by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 31st, 2016Hi everyone, Bryan here…
Yes, there were a list of movies that tickled my fancy and made me laugh, cry, and be scared so badly that I had to sleep with the lights on. That list is HERE for your enjoyment. Moving on from that, if you have ever met me or have perused this site, you would know that I like a bit of the ole Pro-Wrestling just a smidgen. So it wouldn’t ben an end-of-year celebrations without trying to show you or convince you that Pro-Wrestling is the BEST thing in the universe. After all, ‘Wrestling is Everything is Everything’.
This is one of the most fun and highest forms of entertainment on the planet and a lot of the time when I’m at screenings, I wish I were watching some good ole fashioned wrestling matches. I don’t know why, but it must be in my blood. The below matches are for sure my favorite from the WWE company strictly. If I were to do an all encompassing pro-wrestling list, I would be writing this for the next two weeks and “ain’t nobody got time for that.” So I’ll leave the ‘Wrestle Circus‘, ‘VIP Wrestling‘, ‘NJPW‘, ‘ROH‘, ‘PWG‘, and ‘Evolve‘ for another post, although I think Jervis Cottonbelly and Joey Ryan (The King of Dong Style) deserve some recognition as perhaps some of the best talent in the wrestling business. Seriously, look them up.
Also, at the very bottom of this list, I will place a non-WWE match, which is one of the best matches I’ve ever seen in Pro-Wrestling, and it deserves it’s own place and category, because it’s that hardcore, fun, and insane. I highly suggest you give these matches that are listed below a real chance. You’ll see the storyline that is being told in the squared circle, the amount of high voltage entertainment and athleticism that goes on each and every night here. You will certainly enjoy it.

WWE: TLC 2016 in Dallas!
by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 5th, 2016Hi everyone, Bryan here…
WWE has just finished its 8th TLC pay-per-view right here in Dallas, TX. No, TLC does not mean Tender Loving Care or even the R&B group from the 90s. It stands for Tables-Ladders-Chairs and is considered the “hardcore” PPV of the year for WWE. This was a Smackdown Live brand PPV event where every championship title was on the line. Between chair matches, ladder matches, table matches, and an all-encompassing TLC match to end the night, it’s no doubt that each and every superstar will be sore for next few days after all of their bodies were flung into these steel and wooden pieces of furniture. The event took place at American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX to a big crowd, however it was far from a sell-out. That didn’t stop the crowd from cheering and booing their favorite superstars at all, even though it wasn’t as crazy a crowd as ‘Wrestlemania 32‘.

You Have To See ‘The Man From Death’!
by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 3rd, 2016Hi everyone, Bryan here…
One of the coolest moments of Fantastic Fest was seeing the short film ‘The Man From Death‘, which was directed by Stephen Reedy, and stars Eric R. Lim, Daz Byard, and Dennis Ruel. Eric and Stephen both co-wrote the film too. How do you explain ‘The Man From Death‘? This short film is a mix between the best parts of a Tarantino film with some ‘Scott Pilgrim vs The World‘ thrown in, along with some western, kung-fu, and fun-as-hell gore to be enjoyed by all. Sprinkle some Eric Andre and Tim and Eric Awesome Show in there, and you get ‘The Man From Death‘.

It literally broke Tom, where he went into a fit of rage, burned down his house, and passed out. He was part of the #FinalDeletion. Needless to say, it was insanity. This was such a fun show and we hope you enjoy! All we can say is that ‘The Miz‘ is still the reigning champion of the Intercontinental Belt!

What Really Happened at the RAW leading up to ‘Summerslam 2016’?
by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 18th, 2016Tom N., here…
Corpus Christi, Texas. Latin for the Body of Christ. What a weird place for the first sighting of The Demon King on WWE TV. And yet, there he was. Ancient script was scrawled over his ribs, abs and legs, all leading to a gaping maw in the center of his chest, tongue lashing about, waiting to devour any and all of his opponents whole. The Body of Christ, indeed. Read the rest of this entry »

That’s right, folks. The MULTI-MEDIA MEN’S all WWE Wrestling podcast is back after taking a three month hiatus and I’m here to tell you that we have tons of cool things lined up. The band is finally back together this week with Tom Nix, Mike Purtill, and Bryan Kluger. In this episode, we discuss in detail the Randy Orton and Brock Lesnar feud as well as if Finn Balor or Dolph Ziggler can be the tentpole of the company. We are glad Mike Purtill is finally back to tell us about the fabled blind-fold match all those years ago too.
