WWE Payback 2016: What to Expect!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 30th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

payback-2016-poster-2

It’s that time of year again for the PPV after Wrestlemania, which is known as Payback. Normally, this is a rather lackluster PPV when compared to the rest of the WWE events throughout the year, and this particular one seems no different, despite a couple of matches. I do expect some good moments, but I don’t expect a ton of titles to change hands here, if any really. Not only that, but we still have a ton of WWE Superstars out, including John Cena, Seth Rollins, Neville, and Randy Orton. You can add to that list Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, and Triple H not showing up, as well as The New Day not having a match either, however the latter will most likely do some promos. In other words, this just doesn’t seem like an exciting PPV at the moment. I hope I’m wrong. Maybe, just maybe Shinsuke Nakamura will show up and wrestle for two hours. Then again, maybe they’ll bring back ‘Firefly‘. Side note: why is Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt family on the poster for Payback, but they don’t have a match?

A ‘Monsterpocalypse’ is Coming!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

monsterpocalypse_now_wallpaper_by_squidtentacle

The major Hollywood studios are in a giant bidding war for the rights to the board game ‘Monsterpocalypse‘, which is a board game from Privateer Press that resembles Guillermo Del Toro’s film ‘Pacific Rim‘, where humans get into giant sized robots to fight large monsters. With the success of ‘Pacific Rim‘, it’s no surprise that a ton of studios want in on this cash cow and make it a franchise project, which is exactly what the studios are looking to do.

The-Funhouse-Massacre-Poster-1

Scream Factory is bringing us the debut of ‘The Funhouse Massacre‘ on Blu-ray and DVD but we have to wait until June 7, 2016. This seems so far away for such a “killer” movie, I know – terrible pun – but it’s going to be worth the wait, I mean Robert Englund is in it! The film premiered at the Horrorhound Weekend Convention Film Festival and won Best Film and Best Special Effects. We’re talking quality scares.

Stephen Root can be solidly qualified as one of “those guys”. You’ve seen him in just about everything, but oh-my-gosh-what-is-his-name?! He’s an amazing character and as such, has been in too many projects to list and his voice has featured in even more. He was the voice behind one of the core characters from the long-running ‘King of the Hill‘ animated series for example. Now he can add one more credit to his resume with a role in ‘Barry‘.

Netflix gives ‘The Punisher’ a Full Series!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2016-04-29 at 8.56.00 AM

It was only a matter of time, since Jon Bernthal’sPunisher‘ in the second season of ‘Daredevil‘ was so hugely popular, hence Netflix has just announced that ‘Punisher’ will have its own series. They have tried to do ‘The Punisher’ over the years, first being with Dolph Lundgren back in the 80s. I still have a soft spot for that movie. Then there was the Thomas Jane films, which could have been amazing and a few scenes had their moments, but it was mostly laughable. Put in a few other projects in the mix and you would have a sub-par Punisher movie realm.

Is it true? Is Sylvester Stallone coming to television? Yes he is, and he will play the lead role of Raymonde Aprile, the last great American mob boss. I can’t wait to see Stallone play a sadistic bad guy. Not only that, ‘Training Day‘ and upcoming ‘The Magnificent Seven‘ director Antoine Fuqua will direct the series. The show is based off of ‘Omerta‘, which was the final novel from Mario Puzo, who famously wrote ‘The Godfather‘.

Film Review: ‘The Bad Kids’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 28th, 2016

Beka P., Here…

MarcusPaigeHeader

In the vast and desolate Mojave Desert sits a high school. It’s not just any school, it’s the last stop for many troubled 11th and 12th graders. Triumphs are few and far between, graduations even more rare, but when there’s success it is ever so sweet. The Bad Kids, directed by Keith Fulton and Lou Pepe, follows three teens through their time at Black Rock High School, an alternative institution. The film focuses on Joey, whose turbulent home life leaves him struggling to cope with the normalcy of everyday life; Jennifer, whose lack of confidence stems from an emotionally abusive father; and Lee, a teen parent trying to raise a child with a classmate all the while fighting to compensate for his educational shortcomings.

Oddball, directed by Stuart McDonald, is an unexpected true tale about a chicken farmer and his misbehaving dog, Oddball, and how with a bit of determination and some help from family, anything is possible. Swampy, played by beloved Aussie actor, Shane Jacobson, is somewhat of an outcast. A widowed chicken farmer on the outskirts of town, he doesn’t much care what people think of his strange ways, or his strange dog, Oddball. The only caveat there is that Oddball seems to always be getting into trouble with the townspeople. So much so that Oddball is out of chances.

Film Review: ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’!!

by Janet White on Apr 23rd, 2016

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Huntsman

Let’s say just say it…Snow White and the Huntsman was not well done. The Huntsman: Winter’s War is the hot and cold shell that envelops its predecessor.  It’s not perfect, but is action enjoyment coupled with corny sporadic humor.  Not to mention, Chris Hemsworth finally got his balls back.  I can tell you that.  Snow White and the Huntsman emasculated the action-packed hunk of man that is Hemsworth.  Though some believe that this story should not have been told, but I enjoyed the unveiling of the back-backstory.  The film could have been structured to be less predictable but sometimes you just have to sit back and enjoy a film for your base needs: adrenaline, fear, and desire.

In the large series run of ‘Doctor Who‘, the actor that embodies the companion is almost, if not, more important than the actor we see on our screens that we call “The Doctor” for a few seasons. Go into any chat room dedicated to BBC’s ‘Doctor Who‘ and you’ll find at least one discussion thread that debates the best companion. To get into that discussion, it would depend on if we’re talking about “Classic Who” or “New Who”, I sound like Dr. Seuss about now but there are layers to a good debate about companions.

He’s been in front of the camera, behind the camera, writing the lines and doing nearly everything else, at one point, to bring us the cinematic joys we gladly line up for. In our stadium seats with our overpriced popcorn, jumbo sodas and Mike and Ike’s, we get swept away into a world that, sometimes fortunately, is not the one we’ll walk back to, squinting in the daylight after experiencing the action, drama, laughs, epic heights and drastic lows a well-instructed cast has just delivered, and Favreau is among the best at drawing those emotions from a cast.

THE FILM

The original ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘ is one of the best horror films of all time. It still holds that title to this day. One thing most people don’t realize though is that the original film was made in such a way to evoke terror and horror, that it was filmed in such a manner as to show almost not gore, blood, or violence. It was all left off-screen for the most part. In return, this was a low-budget independent horror film that was fast-paced, horrific, and wildly entertaining, if not scary-as-hell. It truly is one of the perfect horror movies. some twelve years later, the original director Tobe Hooper came back and directed a sequel titled ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre II‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

One of my favorite actors in the game, John C. McGinley is equally funny and fierce. It’s fantastic seeing whatever new project he’s involved in because he can do it all so well. The most perfect and obvious example would be to look at the characters in two of his most well-known projects. TV Series ‘Scrubs‘ and ‘Platoon‘. I love, or at least watch everything he’s been involved in. I’m going to have one more show to check out now that McGinley has signed for the lead in IFC’s new scripted series ‘Stan Against Evil‘.

Interview with Henry Thomas!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

henry-thomas

One of the best movies ever made is ‘E.T.‘, and I had the distinct pleasure to talk with Henry Thomas who played Elliot in that iconic film. We discuss his audition for the role in E.T. and that famous kiss, which was quite comical behind the scenes. We also get into his work on ‘Gangs of New York‘, meeting Michael Jackson and his work in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe. Henry is also a musician who has an album coming out in a couple of months, which we also discuss. This was such a fun interview that took place in Dallas, TX. in 2016 for the Dallas International Film Festival.

AMC has just picked up a third season of ‘Fear the Walking Dead‘ less than a week after this current second season started. The first season had six great episodes and this current second season will have a whopping 15 episodes. This show is a spinoff of ‘The Walking Dead‘ and instead of taking place in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, it focuses on the start of it in Los Angeles. The third season will start in 2017, I imagine around the same time as now.

Film Review: ‘The Jungle Book’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 14th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

jungle-book-2016-posters-mowgli-baloo

How many renditions have there been of ‘The Jungle Book‘? More than a dozen over the years for sure, and it seems like Disney has more than just one project of ‘The Jungle Book‘ in play at the moment, or shall I say ‘The Jungle Book‘, meaning Disney has one and Warner Bros. has one.  The first project is Jon Favreau’s version, which is a live-action film, based on Rudyard Kipling’s famous book. The film itself is stunningly beautiful, as we see in the first shot of the film, which is deep inside the jungle with the young Mowgli running and hopping through the trees. The use of 3D here was actually quite good, specifically the amount of depth it gave the film and surrounded you with all that is the jungle.

Film Review: ‘Miles Ahead’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 13th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Miles Davis is one of the best jazz musicians to have ever lived. His life in and out of the studio was well-documented and full of surprises, success, and downfalls. It all translated into his one-of-a-kind sound on each of his albums, and he became one of the top purveyors and creators of modern jazz. Actor Don Cheadle (‘House of Lies‘) is obviously a big fan of the musician, and personally financed and stepped into the writing and directing chair for this one, marking this project as his first directorial effort, as well as the star in this Miles Davis biopic titled ‘Miles Ahead‘.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

shane-jump

As I’m recovering from seven insane days of ‘Wrestlemania 32‘ in Dallas, TX., I’ve had time to reflect, contemplate, saturate, and regurgitate every I event I attended. I had my box of Booty O’s to make sure I wasn’t Booty thru the weekend, met some good people, watched some amazing matches, talked with some WWE Superstars, and lost my voice when Shane-O-Mac put his life on the line for the WWE Business. To quote a certain former WWE announcer, it was a slobberknocker of a week for sure that hit me in the solar plexus more times than I’d like to admit. WWE really did it up big this year for Wrestlemania 32. Not only did they put on several good shows, but they also broke records. There was over 101,000 people in attendance at AT&T Stadium for Wrestlemania 32, beating the previous record from Wrestlemania 3 by quite a bit. Not only that, ticket sales and merch sales were way up as well from previous years. It seems like WWE is growing exponentially with more and more fans tuning in every week. That’s a good thing. Instead of writing a recap of the entire weekend, I’ll give you some details of some of the cooler things I witnessed over the past week.
