Syfy’s ‘Tremors’ Series Bid Secures Director!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 23rd, 2017

Hey guys, Jana here,

So we’ve known for a little while that Syfy has teamed up with horror giant Blumhouse to give Kevin Bacon a series based on one of Bacon’s most iconic movie roles – ‘Tremors‘. The project has not only got the footloose and fancy free (See what I did there?) Bacon attached, but now there is a director on board in the form of Vincenzo Natali (‘Hannibal‘)

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Good news, everyone. The horror wizard John Carpenter is heading back to the genre with a new series for the SyFy network called Tales For A Halloween Night. Carpenter will executive produce the series and hopefully direct and write some of the episodes. The series is based off of Carpenter’s own horror anthology in graphic novel form. The search for writers, directors, and actors are currently in full force.

mario-van-peebles-net-worth-600x572

Syfy is getting a new series from partners Mario Van Peebles, through his new shingle MVPTV, and XLRator Media. The 13-episode order is for a series titled ‘Superstition‘. As the name suggests it’s a supernatural drama, and it’s set near the one city in America that is more attached to the supernatural than any others, New Orleans. MVP is set to write, direct and star in a few of the episodes. Joel Anderson Thompson (‘Battlestar Galactica‘) is on tap to serve as showrunner. The series won’t air until sometime in 2017.

‘Sharknado 4’ Is Coming To Syfy in July!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 10th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

Syfy is at it again and has decided that three Sharknados is simply not enough! ‘Sharknado 4‘ is coming and with it the results from the end of the third installment, ‘Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!’. Remember in July when Syfy gave us the option of “You decide if #AprilLives or #AprilDies”? Of course they were referring to April Wexler (Tara Reid).

‘Brave New World’ Going To Series For Syfy!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on May 6th, 2015

Syfy is digging their boots into their plans to re-invent themselves in the image of the channel’s origins by going back to offering quality sci-fi programming. More space opera, less sharks in tornadoes, hopefully they continue offering random former TV stars as sacrifice though, that’s entertaining as hell!

Hey guys, Jana here,

Syfy is working hard to re-brand themselves from the B-rated horror hack jobs they’re currently associated with back into the mecca for sci-fi fans. They’re still going to show films like ‘Sharknado‘ because who doesn’t want to watch that? Their effort at re-modeling the network sees new shows being given a green light that will draw in a wider crowd. In that vein, ‘Geeks Who Drink‘ is the latest addition to their roster.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

sharknado-2-the-second-one-300x300

The Discovery Channel’sShark Week‘ 2014 is coming up soon, and since SyFy changed the entire Shark game last year with the incredible ‘Sharknado‘, they are jumping on the bandwagon with ‘Sharknado Week‘, which will show the first film, and premiere the sequel ‘Sharknado 2: The Second One‘, along with Roger Corman’s new film ‘Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda‘. I of course expect a few other amazing programs to be announced. But we do know that ‘Sharknado 2‘ will debut on July 30th, and the Corman film will air on July 26th. Hello, Jana here,

 z-nation

If you’ve read my articles before, you know I am vehemently against cookie-cutter TV and movies. If the idea has been done, I can tolerate a few re-imaginings on it, but I need variety. Too much of the same topic and I tune out. This has been the way with the latest craze of zombies. I’ve seen zombies on everything. TV, movies, gun targets, video games, music videos, cartoons, Rob Zombie, drinks, 5k’s…you name it. It’s safe to say, the zombie genre has been done to death, unfortunately, that death has been re-animated and come back a million different ways. Zombies are not only horror-genre material, anymore. There have been zombie romances, animated zombies and zombie comedies.

I don’t understand all the hype around making new reboots or re-imaginings of the world of ‘Wizard of Oz‘. SO SAY WE ALL!!!

SyFy Network executive Mark Stern unveiled that there will be a TV MOVIE made  called “Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome”.  It will follow a mid-twenties William Adama as he enters the decade old first Cylon War.

It is set to shoot in Vancouver sometime next year.

Mark Stern says: “When we read Michael’s script, it was so clearly a full-blown pilot for a series.  The scope is fantastic and bigger, I think, than anticipated, so we said, ‘Let’s do it as a 2-hour backdoor pilot.’ … We’re trying to get up and running as soon as possible.”

I am excited to hear this news.  Any BSG news is great news.  I’m curious as to how many characters we will see from the BSG series in their younger from.

Plus Mark Stern said that the show Caprica is on the edge.  November 15 is the date we will hear by if the show will be no more.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

In the surge of SVOD providers rushing to produce their own original content, Yahoo is on the ready to play ball and they’re bringing a bat to the plate. ‘Other Space‘ is a half-hour comedy series created by Paul Feig exclusively for Yahoo. The series is expected to launch in the early part of next year. The series is described as a journey in unknown space set in the early 22nd century, when the human race has mapped most of the known universe, failed to find alien life, and have gotten a little tired of the whole thing. The description makes me think there will be plenty of room for some dry humor and stars that, combined, have quite a cult following to bring to the game.

Have you ever watched one of those movies that you really wished was going to be good, and then it just wasn’t?  It’s a movie that makes you wish you could go back in time, make a few creative changes, maybe hire a different cinematographer, and perhaps it could have been a film you could watch in theaters.  “I’ll Follow You Down” is more akin to an episode of “The Outer Limits” or “The Twilight Zone,” but not the good Rod Serling original Twilight Zone, but rather the version that came out in the 2000’s.

This year’s Dallas Comic Con has come to a close and if you missed it- you missed a lot. This year’s Con was help at the massive Dallas Convention Center, while previous years were held at the (fun, but ridiculously laid out) Irving convention Center. The change to the larger venue effected everyone’s attitude toward the weekend. Having, almost, everything in the same area of one floor was a welcome change. HEROES OF COSPLAY – GROUP CATEGORY

by Justin Cline on Sep 12th, 2013

logoFor those of you not already in the know, Heroes of Cosplay is a “reality” show currently airing on the Syfy network. Next week, the program will be airing its season finale, the second of two episodes filmed at Kansas City’s Planet Comicon. In this contest, the participants will be asked to compete as teams. Three of the show’s stars will be portraying characters from American McGee’s Alice, while yet another three will be recreating characters from How To Train Your Dragon.

While I’m certain their costumes and skits will be entertaining, I’m also of the opinion that the entire cast needs a bonding experience. To that end, I would like to suggest that they enter a group competition in the future as the characters from Pixar’s Toy Story movies.

And I like to think it would go a little something like this. Read the rest of this entry »

Hi, Bryan Here….

It’s going to be difficult box office wise for ‘Despicable Me 2‘ to beat its predecessor, which made over $543 million just three years ago. The directors and writers are back again with Steve Carrell as the whacky former criminal mastermind Gru who we saw last time stealing the moon. How can one top that? This fun sequel may lack the heart and soul of the first film, but is still highly entertaining for both kids and adults with its amazing animated visuals, laughs, great voice cast, and those likable minions.
