Many movies are cast with celebrities who bring fans into the theater. Arrival boasts a very distinguished cast, including Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner and Forest Whitaker. All three give award-worthy performances. However, what makes Director Denis Villeneuve’s film so special is that he makes the story the biggest star of the film.

Film Review: ‘Arrival’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

amyadamsarrival

Not to be confused with ‘The Arrival‘ with a young Charlie Sheen, although both of these films involve visitors from another planet, the simply titled ‘Arrival‘ takes the alien invasion genre into paths that we’ve never traveled down before. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Enemy, Prisoners, Sicario), instead of giant cities falling to the ground and millions of people disintegrating into thin air by a laser beam, ‘Arrival‘ follows the path of two people who want to find a way to communicate with the new aliens that have seemed to land at twelve different locations on planet Earth. Set in present day, multiple giant alien spacecrafts land on Earth, where the governments around the globe put their best and brightest on the job to try and communicate with the new visitors.

I’m Prepared for the ‘Arrival’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 17th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

maxresdefault

Well here’s an alien invasion film that seems to be fresh and original -FINALLY! The trailer for ‘Arrival‘ looks excellent on all levels, from the cast (Amy Adams, Forest Whitaker, Jeremy Renner), to the direction of Denis Villeneuve (‘Sicario‘ and ‘Prisoners‘). It all looks amazing. I just hope it is when it releases on November 11th of this year. This is not to be confused and is not a remake of the 1996 Charlie Sheen vehicle ‘The Arrival‘. This is something entirely different.

Hey guys, Jana here,

One of the many Marvel properties that have been a hit with fans is ‘Daredevil‘ from Netflix. Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Scott Glenn and Rosario Dawson make out an awesome cast that tells the story of Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer from Hell’s Kitchen. As if the cast isn’t already awesome, season 2 brings in a few extra names and those names are attached to some fan favorite characters.

The Last Black Man in San Francisco – Film Review!

by Janet White on Jun 13th, 2019

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

“The Last Black Man in San Francisco is not perfect in its execution, but the story is moving despite its disjointed structure and flow.”

An interesting story comes out the U.S. capitol of “in your face.” In The Last Black Man in San Francisco, Joe Talbot, the director, teams up with Jimmie Fails (Jimmie Fails) for a second time to bring you seemingly Fails’s own story of the journey of living with loss. Orphaned from a drug addict mother and deceased father, Jimmie has lived with a friend, Montgomery Allen (Jonathan Majors) for some unrevealed amount of time. Each day, Jimmie and Mont take the bus to his childhood home. Much to the chagrin of the current owners, Jimmie touches up his ancestral homestead. When ownership of the property suddenly is in flux, Jimmie seizes the moment. What followed enlightened Jimmie’s world and hopefully the viewers in the audience. Read the rest of this entry »

“The third installment caps off an incredible franchise with the most emotionally resonant chapter that gives all involved a fitting end.”

The How To Train Your Dragon trilogy has always rivaled Pixar movies for me. The animation is great, the voice acting is top-notch, the story and themes are full realized, and the emotional beats are earned. The third installment caps off an incredible franchise with the most emotionally resonant chapter that gives all involved a fitting end.

Holiday Movie Round-Up 2018!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2018

Holmes & Watson

First movie I have walked out of by choice in years. What a steaming pile of crap. I knew it was bad going in, considering they didn’t even try to promote it in any way, shape, or form. There was only one trailer I’m aware of and the same TV spot played occasionally during sporting events. When a studio has a comedy they believe will be successful coming out on Christmas they promote the hell out of it. I wish they buried this one even deeper than they did. I didn’t walk out to make some high brow “cool guy” statement.

Sicario 2: Soldado Trailer is Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 19th, 2017

Sicario‘ was one of the better films of 2015. It was only fitting that we would receive a sequel called ‘Sicario 2: Soldado‘ that stars Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin, Isabela Moner, Jeffrey Donovan, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Catherine Keener. In this sequel, Benicio and Brolin team up to fight the cartel and their terrorist on US soil, which looks to be super violent and suspenseful. Taylor Sheridan has returned to write the screenplay, but director Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049) has not returned.

If you’re like me, then you have grown to love filmmaker Christopher Nolan over the years. Come December 19th, most of his films will be released on 4K UHD for the first time ever. The films include the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘, ‘Inception‘, ‘The Prestige‘, ‘Interstellar‘, and the recent ‘Dunkirk‘. Each film will come with HDR as well, meaning a richer and deeper looking image for each movie. Each film will feature extras, the standard Blu-ray Disc, and Digital Copies of each movie. The whole collection will retail at about $150 with the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘ retailing at around $70. Of course with the holidays coming up, expect big discounts everywhere for these.

Fear knows no limits when the suspenseful horror-thriller ‘It Comes at Night‘ creeps its way onto Blu-ray (plus Digital HD) and DVD September 12 from Lionsgate.
