It’s never too early to be talking Academy Awards Nominations. One of the categories that sometimes gets a bit overlooked is the Animated Feature Film category. This is one of the most important areas in my household as there are 3 children that drag me to see each and every, sometimes, pieces of animated crap. In order to be eligible for entry into the category, there are a few criteria that need to be met. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and comply with all of the category’s other qualifying rules before they can advance in the voting process.

Hi, Bryan Here…..

url

I don’t know about you, but I really enjoyed the Oscars last night.  I thought McFarlane was great and funny and thought his bits were solid.  All of the musical numbers with the exception of the two 007 SONGS and the song from ‘Ted‘ was quite awful and not fun to watch. Although ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild‘ didn’t win, there was some well-deserved victories. We also had out 6th annual live commentary last night, and it was a great success. I want to thank all of you for participating. We look forward to next year.

The Oscar Nominations Are In!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 10th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…..

oscar_statues-4_3_r560

Earlier this morning, Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the Oscar nominations, which MacFarlane came across as pretty funny.  I’m excited for him to host the Oscars this year.  And, his film ‘Ted‘ actually got nominated. How cool is that?  Below is the full list of Oscar nominations.  Let us know what you think.  We will be posting a separate article soon on Oscar snubs, because believe me, there are many.  And don’t forget, we will be doing our annual LIVE OSCAR COMMENTARY, which will mark the 6th time we have done it.  It promises tons of laughs.

Seth MacFarlane Will Host the Oscars!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 1st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show will host the 85th Oscars.  That’s right folks, Seth MacFarlane, the director of the recent film ‘Ted’ will assume hosting duties.  I wonder if this is a ploy to get a younger audience to watch the Oscars, a ploy the  Academy has been trying to do for many years.  Remember that horror montage they did a few years ago at the Oscars, which failed miserably?  Or maybe, they love MacFarlane’s hosting duties on Comedy Central’s Roasts?  Which ever the reason, I expect some inappropriate and funny humor at the Oscars.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here you can watch the 15 minute short animated film of ‘The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore’ which one best animated short at the oscars this year.  This is on par in my opinion with any Pixar film.  If you want the HD version, head to iTunes and pay $1.99 for it.  I’m sure all these shorts will be on blu-ray soon enough.

Hi Bryan Here…..

The 84th annual Academy Award nominations are in.  There are a couple of surprises that I was very happy to see on here and tons of disappointment.  It looks like the Academy went with 9 Best Picture noms this year rather than 10.  They also only went with 3 noms for make up which I can think of others, and only two for original song.  Was this a time issue, so that the event would be over on time for once rather than have all 5 songs being sung?  I don’t like it, but that’s how it is this year.  Below you will see each category with my thoughts.  Enjoy.

Billy Crystal Comes Back As Oscar Host!!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 10th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

Over the past few days there has been a lot of commotion about the upcoming Oscars telecast.  Rush Hour director Brett Ratner was going to produce the show while Eddie Murphy was set to host the telecast.  After a few unfavorable remarks from Ratner, he “resigned” from producing duty and shortly after Murphy backed out as well.  Brian Grazer took over as producer and the Oscars have just announced that Billy Crystal will now host the Oscars.

Hi Bryan Here….

My favorite stand up comedian of all time is forever Steve Martin.  His bits still make me laugh till this day as if I were hearing them  for the first time all over again.  I laugh so hard I hurt each time I listen to his recordings.  Not to mention his film career, but The Jerk, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Three Amigos are amongst the funniest films ever made.  So while Steve has hosted the Oscars numerous times and hosted SNL numerous times, Mr. Martin gives his long time friend Eddie Murphy some helpful advice on hosting the Oscars.  Enjoy.

THE TRAITOR – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2020

“The Traitor is a great addition to the gangster genre.”

There’s a treasure trove of gangster-themed movies and television shows out there at the moment, from the Oscar-nominated film The Irishman by Martin Scorsese to Peaky Blinders on Netflix with dozens of mafia documentaries in between to fill in the gaps. Marco Bellocchio’s The Traitor fits in nicely into this genre and can even stand on its own with its unique way of storytelling that centers on the real-life criminals who were finally put in prison after one of the mob bosses informed the authorities about his rival’s business.

Uncut Gems – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 20th, 2019

“Uncut Gems is one of the most intense movies I have ever seen and don’t get Adam Sandler another comedy special but rather, get this man the Oscar right now for his performance.”

A New York diamond district dealer with a severe gambling problem snowballs into a series of violent and suspenseful situations in the new Safdie brothers movie ‘Uncut Gems‘, starring a phenomenal Adam Sandler in a role like you’ve never seen him in before. Don’t get this man another comedy special, get this man the Oscar right now for his performance as Howard Ratner, the most irritating business owner in the world. This film is a surprise punch that might have the most intense sequences of the decade.

ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 17th, 2019

In the world of unnecessary sequels run amok, Zombieland: Double Tap proves that sometimes sequels are absolutely worth the wait. Set 10 years after the original movie, Zombieland: Double Tap quickly picks up where we left off with this makeshift family as they work together to survive a zombie apocalypse. Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) & Wichita (Emma Stone) all reprise their roles from the 2009 original with the same enthusiasm as they had the first time around. When the first movie came out most of the stars were not well known but after 10 years they’ve gone on to star in Oscar-nominated movies and even win Oscars themselves. Those 10 years in real life and in the Zombieland universe was the perfect amount of time for the writers and director to put together a sequel worthy of the original and maybe even superior to it in some way. This is easily one of the best comedies of 2019.

Aladdin (2019) 4K UHD Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2019

Of course, Disney is on top of the world right now. Their multi-billion-dollar box office numbers are astounding. The studio is releasing a ton of movies a year from kids films and Star Wars to Marvel superhero action blockbusters. This also includes live-action remakes of their beloved classic animated movies. Even though these remakes started a long time ago, their first real, big step into this medium was in 2015 with Cinderella (I hated it). From that terrible motion picture, albeit a strong financial success, we have gotten multitudes of these live-action movies with The Jungle Book, Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, and of course now Aladdin (a remake of the excellent and most-treasured 1992 animated movie).

US – 4K UHD Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 23rd, 2019

The horror genre is something sacred and entertaining. It can be whatever you’d like it to be from something of a masked killer on the loose slashing their way through unsuspecting teenage victims to a literal hell unleashing in space to something much more quiet and unnerving like family being torn apart by a demonic entity and everything in between. Jordan Peele has crafted his own horror universe and elements and is 2/2 (so far) in drilling the nail into that horror membrane with precision and accuracy. His latest film simply titled ‘US‘ is much more than a straight out horror film, but something that makes us think about our past, present and ultimate future with each other. I’m happy to say that ‘US‘ is a true masterpiece in horror.

The Lion King (2019) – Film Review

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 19th, 2019

“The Lion King is a soulless remake of the original.”

The Lion King is a soulless remake of the original that is beautiful to look at but (mostly) lacks any charm of the animated classic. In order to even properly discuss this movie one has to acknowledge that all of these Disney remakes are completely unnecessary cash grabs by Disney. I don’t care about that aspect to be honest. They are a business, and businesses need to make money. However, you can’t have a conversation about the substance of the movie if all you do is say how these “live action” remakes are pointless the whole time so I wanted to get that out of the way up front.
