Neil Patrick Harris Bringing Variety Show To NBC!!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 27th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

neil-patrick-harris-the-out-list-hbo

Depending on your age, when you hear the name Neil Patrick Harris, you either think of ‘How I Met Your Mother‘, or like me, it’s ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.‘ A 16 year old NPH stole the collective heart of girls everywhere when he played the prodigious child doctor. From that day forward, Harris would be a steady presence on TV. He appeared in numerous one-off series and made-for-TV movies that kept him in front of a camera just enough to make us want more. In addition to earning a spot that would cement his name, once again, in the annals of hit series with ‘How I Met Your Mother‘, he lent his voice to multiple animated ventures. NPH’s ever evolving resume led to a singing role as the title character in Joss Whedon’sDr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog‘. The thespian has hit the boards on Broadway in between his recorded projects and his most recent theatre stint was the titular part in ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘ where he drew rave reviews from even the most staunch critics. Hedwig is now being played by Michael C. Hall.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Ryan Reynolds‘ star power just gets higher and higher, and it looks like he’s not slowing down in any way, shape or form. The ‘Deadpool‘ ringer’s production company, Maximum Effort, has signed a 3-year first-look deal with Fox. This is a timely announcement as Twentieth Century Fox’s feature assets will be transferred to Disney. It looks like they’ve found their first project and it’s going to be interesting.

Epic List Of The Top 10 Road Trip Flicks!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 3rd, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

tumblr_nx5wmzgYvb1qewpgqo1_500

Summer means a lot to me, there’s baseball, which I waxed pretty poetic about in last week’s Top 10 Baseball Movies post. There’s fishing, the fourth of July, a multi-colored tongue from Otter Pops, and the all important road trip. Your trip can be a short jaunt to the lake or it can be a days long event that usually culminates in an epic destination – Wally World, anyone? Whether you trip on your own, with your friends or with your family, there’s something wonderful about having a full tank of gas, a stereo full of tunes and the open road in front of you. Depending on who you’re with it can either feel like a hostage situation or a relaxing break from the weekly drag. Most good road trips feel like a bit of both, not to mention the longing for the comfort that is your home toilet.

I’m gonna count down my top 10 movies that feature a road trip. Strap in, kick on the A/C and let the lull of the road below you relaxes your worries. This was not an easy list to winnow down to only 10 with a few honorable mentions. I left off the obvious ‘Thelma and Louise‘, they’re best friends, they kill someone and drive off a cliff. Yeah, I didn’t give you a spoiler alert there because if you haven’t seen this movie by now, you were never going to. Some road trip movies are better than others and we had differing opinions from each other making this list. So read along and tell me where we agree or disagree or what I’ve left out.

Hey guys, Jana here,

twilightzone-the-twilight-zone-oscars-jpeg-29279

Lately, there has been a rash of remakes  of our favorite television series being adapted to feature films, but not too many that are simply re-making a TV series as another TV series. One that is doing that in recent memory is ‘Star Trek‘. CBS is planning to give us another incarnation of that beloved franchise that began in 1966 and has occasionally sprouted a new series while clinging to the rules and locations of the past. As of today, ‘Star Trek‘ isn’t alone, for this another show that will join it in this whole remake genre – ‘The Twilight Zone‘.

Film Review: ‘The Good Dinosaur’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

maxresdefault

This year marks the first time that Pixar released to feature films in the same year. Usually, Pixar releases one film every year or two, but in 2015, we got both ‘Inside Out‘ and this new Thanksgiving release ‘The Good Dinosaur‘. There was good reason for this second release as well, as this might have been the first Pixar movie to ever have a troubled history of production. Back in 2009, Bob Peterson came up with the story and was set to direct ‘The Good Dinosaur‘ a couple of years later.

Taye Diggs is not a new name to the boards of Broadway by anyone’s measure. The 43 year old thespian has starred or featured in some of my favorite stage shows like ‘Rent‘, ‘Wicked‘ and ‘Chicago‘. Diggs will soon be adding another credit to his impressive pedigree with ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘ at the Belasco Theatre.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

oscarsnominationsheader

We are only a few days away from the 87th annual Oscar ceremony, which airs live this Sunday. Again, we will be delivering a live commentary full of jokes, trivia, facts, winners, losers, and giving away free gifts throughout the night. So please, keep it right here during the Oscars and use the hashtag #boomstickcomics when posting to social media. But, let’s talk about predictions for a minute. I’m sure some of you have put some money down on Oscar pools at works or with your friends to see who comes out the winner this year. There were some excellent movies this year along with some amazing performances, so needless to say, this year will be extremely difficult to predict.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

Hey guys, Jana here,

scarystories__131204022133

The reading you do as a child shapes your literary preferences for the rest of your life. In my mind, I settled the prairie with Laura Ingalls Wilder, I watched ‘Tip and Mitten‘ sit and stay and had ‘Fun With Dick and Jane‘. I adventured with ‘The Mouse and the Motorcycle‘, chose my own adventure (Which, btw is the format Neil Patrick Harris uses for his autobiography released last month, it’s great fun and a great read), I felt brave as I read R.L. Stine’s chiller’s which gave me the confidence to pick up Stephen King in later years. No matter what you grew to love to read, there was one series that stood out from the rest , ‘Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark‘ by Alvin Schwartz with illustrations by Stephen Gammell took a heroic measure of nerve.

There is a new documentary that is currently being made called ‘Haunters‘, which is being made by Jon Schnitzer. This documentary looks all sorts of fun as it looks to be the ultimate look inside how some of the scariest Haunted Houses are made across the country. I’m not talking about real haunted houses. I’m talking about the fun Haunted Houses that we all go to during the Halloween season. Some are truly scary and some are fairly laughable. ‘Haunters‘ seems to dive into how each haunted house is made, along with the costumes, make up effects, digital effects, and actors who make a living, performing in these scary houses.

Hey Hed-heads, Jana here,

Hedwig and the Angry Inch‘ is a musical that may be new to theater-goers.  Some may have just heard about it when they saw that Neil Patrick Harris got glammed up to play the lead in a revival of the transgendered hit.  Hedwig began in 1998 in an Off-Broadway rendering written and composed by John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask. The pair then took their work to Off-Broadway with Mitchell playing Hedwig and Trask as one of the band members. Not to confuse those of you that are unfamiliar with Hedwig any further, let me give you a run-down.

‘Harold and Kumar’ Animated Series Is A GO!!!!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jul 9th, 2014

Hey kids, Jana here,

big_harold-and-kumar-youtube01

Big news today comes from a tiny little blip on the Twitter screen. If you weren’t paying attention, you would have missed it. ‘Harold and Kumar’ the animated series!!!!  It has been in different stages of development for the last few years, but today makes me think we’re getting a LOT closer to showtime. Adult Swim, a branch of Cartoon Network, will be the home for the animated serial. The network picked up the series not long after the third installment of the movies ‘A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas‘ wrapped.

Hello, Jana here,

In_Your_Eyes_Tribeca_poster

Movies have been moving to digital platforms for a long time. I still think back to the original movie collection I had when I became a total movie buff. I actually worked at a video rental store in high school called ‘The Movie Buff’. It was the greatest job in the world and set me up for a life-long fascination with film. Thinking back to that movie collection, I had over 450 VHS tapes. Over the years, I’ve had to get rid of them to make room for the newest platform of DVD’s. Way too many years later, I have no VHS tapes, but have tons of DVD’s and am now copying my collection over to a digital format.

Dr. Horrible

If you don’t know who Dr. Horrible is, I’m going to assume you have been living under a rock, on Mars, or in a cave with no sunlight and/or internet access. ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog‘ is a comedy, tragedy, musical….a comtragical? I like that. I officially coin ‘comtragical’ TM pending. The story in 3 separate acts stars gorgeous voices and wonderful voices from Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day.

Hi, Bryan Here….

a-million-ways-to-die-in-the-west-neil-patrick-harris-poster

Seth MacFarlane’s new film has a trailer. His first feature film he directed was ‘Ted‘, and it scored big theatrically and on home-video. It was only a matter of time before the ‘Family Guy‘ creator and voice made his 2nd feature live-action film. ‘A Million Ways To Die in The West‘ synopsis is: Seth MacFarlane plays a hapless farmhand in the Old West who loses his girl (Amanda Seyfried) when he ducks out of a fight, only to be taught to shoot by the wife (Charlize Theron) of a gunfighter (Liam Neeson) in this Media Rights Capitol western comedy. This looks pretty funny, plus it has Neil Patrick Harris in it. The film is set to release May 30th. Enjoy the trailer.

Jana B., Here…

 How-I-Met-Your-Mother-7

You can’t bottle lightning and you won’t likely see it strike the same place twice. Yet, television networks seem to be banking on just that improbability becoming the mainstay instead of the rare event it really is. Sadly, those of us that love truly original story lines are running out of things to watch. The silver screen has been a big culprit of this with the barrage of re-makes from successful movies barely 20 years old and mediocre tv shows that have earned the big screen treatment. I always hoped the small screen was safe since spin-offs never seem to do as well as the predecessor. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, but they are few and far between. I’m now taking bets on which of these proposed and shows in the works will make it through their first full season. I’m kidding, I’m not a bookie. Seriously, though…I’ll give you excellent odds.

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Show

The speculation that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have signed to host the Golden Globes for the next two years is true. “Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season,” said NBC president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy. “We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.” After Poehler and Fey’s last run as hosts had positive reviews and 19.7 million total viewers and a six-year high for the show, the comedy duo is sure to give them another 2 years of greatness.

Hi Bryan Here….

There are not a lot of reviews yet for this movie, but the ones I have seen so far have not been good at all.  I whole heartedly disagree with all of these critics.  This ‘Smurfs’ movie was surprisingly a whole lot of fun, great, and funny.  I was not expecting that at all.  The mix between the CG and real world is amazing.  And Hank Azaria’s performance as Gargamel is spectacular.  He has proven once again he is one of the greatest character actors of our time. This movie will be fun for the whole family with everyone of every age enjoying it.

‘Ant-Man’ Begins Production and Fills Out Cast!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 18th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

1608470801_1355278853

Today marks the beginning of filming for Marvel’s ‘Ant-Man’. It has been a winding road getting to this point though. There has been a change in director and the loss of 3 cast-members due to scheduling issues because of delays. Some of us probably thought it would be a miracle of Marvel proportions if it were to ever make it to the big screen. Some of the reason for doubt stems from the fact that original director Edgar Wright had been working on bringing the 2D superhero to life since 2006 with very limited success.
