4K UHD Review: ‘The Matrix’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 25th, 2018

THE FILM

There are only a handful of times where a single film completely flips the entire cinema world upside down and becomes the landmark and milestone for future movies and filmmakers in the decades to come. In 1999, the filmscape was forever changed with a sci-fi action movie called ‘The Matrix‘ by the Wachowski siblings. Nobody had ever heard of the filmmaking duo before and there was not a single soul in the world that though Keanu Reeves would become the action star he became after this movie, but it all worked out well and drove a ton of creative people to think, philosophize, and create even more work based on ‘The Matrix‘.

‘The Matrix’ is coming to 4K UHD!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2018

I’m ready to go down the rabbit hole with Neo once again and learn Kung-Fu and take out robots. The 1999 sci-fi epic ‘The Matrix‘ is finally coming to 4K UHD on May 22nd. The new UHD transfer was supervised Bill Pope himself. The new transfer will come with HDR10 and Dolby Vision, which is just going to be glorious on every level. I can’t wait. Not only that, there will be a Dolby Atmos track, which I bet will be one of the best sounding discs on the market. There will be no new extras unfortunately, but most of the previous bonus features will be transferred over to this release, including the commentary tracks and more.

Warner Bros. Wants to Remake ‘The Matrix’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 14th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

The-Matrix

Warner Bros. is at a loss for original ideas, so they are wanting to get back to 1999 when ‘The Matrix‘ was releasing, because in fact, they want to remake ‘The Matrix‘. This is a terrible idea. There are tons of original stories and ideas out there. Get after it Warner Bros. Sources close to the project have said that a remake of ‘The Matrix‘ is in the works, which isn’t necessarily new news, since we reported on this a couple of years ago. It wasn’t so much of a remake back then, but maybe an expanse on the storyline or even a sequel.

More ‘Matrix’ Movies Are On The Horizon!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 2nd, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

damatrix

Back in 1999, the Wachowski siblings brought us into a new world called ‘The Matrix‘. It was one of the best sci-fi movies to come out in several decades. It truly changed the way stories were told and even how movies were made. Several years later, we got two ‘Matrix‘ sequels back to back. And while those two were no where near the caliber of the first film, they were still fun, and became a solid trilogy. Now it seems the Warner Bros. and the Wachowski siblings are developing more ‘Matrix‘ films.

Hi, Bryan Here…

Here is a 6 minute trailer for ‘Cloud Atlas’.  This definitely looks epic, which is based on David Mitchell’s magnificent story, which spans 100’s of years.  Tom Hanks, Jim Broadbent, Halle Berry, Ben Whishaw, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, and Hugh Grant star. It looks like Tom Hanks plays several different characters and Hugh Grant looks like something out of Mel Gibson’s ‘Apocalypto’.  The Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer directed this, which they brought us the ‘Matrix’ trilogy and ‘Speed Racer’.  This opens October 26th.

GEMINI MAN – Film Review!

by Janet White on Oct 10th, 2019

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

A solid yet original action film is hard to find. Leave it to master cinematographer, Ang Lee, to fill the void. With Gemini Man, the virtual pot o’ gold at the end of the rainbow, viewers will be wowed by the uniquely choreographed and shot action sequences. When Henry Brogan (Will Smith) can no longer view his visage in the mirror, it is definitely time to hang up the sniper rifle. However, when you are the best assassin in the world, can you just stop? Henry thought so. His employer, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and someone he doesn’t suspect beg to differ. Read the rest of this entry »

John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum – 4K UHD Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 11th, 2019

In a surprisingly thrilling movie franchise that started in 2014, the John Wick character and films have made a significant impact on movie-going fans and the action genre. Now into its third film titled John Wick 3: Parabellum (Latin for “Prepare for War”), the filmmakers have spared no expense and creativity in giving us the best action movie for Keanu Reeves and this creative universe they created only five years ago. I would expect situations to get tiresome in a third adventure, but that’s not the case at all here. There are so many different aspects to the fight scenes that we haven’t seen before, along with some great, new John Wick assassin universe knowledge that makes this unique and deadly world seem much bigger than it is.

Film Review: ‘Men in Black: International’!!

by Janet White on Jun 24th, 2019

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

From the mind of Lowell Cunningham, creator of the strangest host of characters fighting for the protection of Earth comes a new installment of the Men in Black series which has wowed audiences with its creative creatures, mind-blowing tech and a star-studded cast of exceptional caliber (Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Rosario Dawson, etc.) since 1997. In theaters now is the latest sequel to this comedic sci-fi action film, Men in Black: International. Jones, Smith, and the others did not return, but the cast is as stellar as the visual effects. Although Barry Sonnenfeld, director of the first three films, did not come back to bring this story to life, F. Gary Gray did a spectacular job. The audience was thrust into a world that seemed so possible. Men in Black: International is awe-inspiringly shot with unique angles and smooth scene and mechanical transitions throughout.

Favorite Movie Scene of the Day #19!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 26th, 2018

At least a dozen times per day, we all internally think the same sentiment. Those of us who are more courageous might speak it out loud. “I’m surrounded by fools.” Yes, we all think or scream this many times a day, whether we’re at the office, at home, out at a restaurant, or even watching the latest ‘Batman‘ movie at your local theater. Sure, we’ve replaced “fools” with other colorful words, such as morons, idiots, and even the occasional dingbat reference. It’s a thought that we all have shared more often than not throughout our daily lives that has become a universal joke over the decades. They’ve even made tons of merchandise, including keychains, bumper stickers, and T-shirts with this phrase on it. It’s like the universal wink to one another as we pass each other by in the hallways or on the streets. The other phrase we usually hear is “I’m surrounded by assholes”, which is more relevant today than ever.

‘Last Flag Flying’ waves over Blu-ray!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 14th, 2017

Last Flag Flying‘ is coming to Blu-ray on January 30th and will be available digitally on January 16th. The film is directed by Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some, Boyhood) and stars Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, and Laurence Fishburne, and is based on Darryl Ponicsan’s book of the same name. The movie focuses on three older men who all served in Vietnam together. Fast forward many years later, they are all reunited when one of their son’s has died in the Iraq war and they road trip to bury the fallen. It’s a different kind of movie for sure in Linklater’s list of movies, but he proves that he can tackle any subject, even if it isn’t as silly or fun as the above mentioned films of his. There will be audio commentaries, behind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and more included on this Blu-ray. Below is more information on the release.

A Retrospective Look Back at the year 2007 in Movies!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 20th, 2017

Written by: Dan Moran

It has been a decade since we have had an overwhelmingly great year of movies. There have been some ‘great movies’ for sure, that have been released since 2007, but a collective year of dominance like 2007 hasn’t been experienced in 10 years. We have to start with the films that people still talk about today from 2007. No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, & Zodiac. I mean what a Top 3 for one calendar year!  The closest we got to this was in 2015 when the Top 3 was, Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max: Fury Road, & Mad Max: Fury Road.
