Film Review: ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 20th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

Even though Martin Scorsese is 71 years old, he has not taken a slower and more cautious path in making films or even the stories he tells. ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘ is anything but cautious and slow. In fact, during its three hour run time from start to finish, only one hour seems to have passed by, as we are thrown in head first into a drug-fueled, rich hungry, and ultra luxurious life of Jordan Belfort and the sinful synagogue know as Wall Street. I have no problem with saying that this is right up there with the best of Scorsese’s films, and it might be Leonardo DiCaprio’s most intense, layered, and greatest performances yet. Hundreds of millions of dollars are made during the course of this film, and I’m sure the same amount, if not more will be made at the box office this holiday.

Hi, Bryan Here…

We’ve written about the upcoming DiCaprio/Scorsese project before on the site, and it seems people are getting amped up about it.  The project is called ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’ which is based on the Jordan Belfort memoir.  With the success of Jonah Hill’s career and his Oscar nomination last year, he has been cast to star alongside DiCaprio for ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street’.

Hi Bryan Here…

I just love when Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese team up and make movies.  They have done so many good films together that have been both critically successful and box office successful.  So why would they stop that?  Well they have no plans to stop.  They are teaming up again to make “The Wolf Of Wall Street”.

John Cusack Enters the Wall Street World!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 29th, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

John Cusack with a serious expression wearing a suit and tie

When you set a series in the world of Wall Street, you need characters colorful enough to not get lost in the atmosphere. Take ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘, for example, Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of Jordan Belfort was larger than life. He had to be outrageous to stand out in the fast-paced, high-stakes land of the almighty dollar. Christian Bale’s version of Patrick Bateman from ‘American Psycho‘ stands out just as much. Granted, these personalities are not what you would assume to be the norm for traders working on Wall Street, but the ambience definitely fosters these type of personalities.

THE IRISHMAN – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 20th, 2019

“The Irishman is a perfect storm of Scorsese mafia films over the years, culminating in what seems like his final act in the genre.”

The story of Jimmy Hoffa, Frank Sheeran, and his mafia syndicate has never been told as flawlessly as new film The Irishman. While it might not be Scorsese’s best film, it’s definitely Scorsese at his absolute best behind the camera as he weaves a multi-decade tale of crime with a myriad of characters that could be considered the greatest mob story ever told. Even at 77 years old, Scorsese has shown no signs of slowing down or shying away from brutality as The Irishman has plenty of.

‘Hustlers’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2019

“The glitz and glamour may dazzle some, but in the end, ‘Hustlers’ fails to show us the dirty penalties of these gender-flipped gangsters. “

The 2008 financial crisis has inspired several film adaptations in the past decade (The Wolf of Wall Street, The Big Short) but whereas they focused almost entirely on the wealthy creators of the crash, ‘Hustlers’ tells a different side of the story: one of their wounded. Angered by their fallen careers and the get-out-of-jail-free card handed to their Wall Street clients, former strip club employees take note from Robin Hood and join forces to vengefully empty their pockets. The glitz and glamour may dazzle some, but in the end, ‘Hustlers’ fails to show us the dirty penalties of these gender-flipped gangsters.

Hey guys, Jana here,

leonardo-dicaprio-inline-zoom-e780bd67-8bfe-4cb1-a724-88c8403b9bba

I am a Leonardo DiCaprio fan. I’ve never hidden it, but I am. I wasn’t in love with him and his boyish good looks like other girls my age were, I recognized him from ‘Growing Pains‘, after all. He didn’t begin his career as absolutely gorgeous, that developed over time. I had to learn to love his work for what it was. Saying that, Leo’s been overlooked for that naked, golden, guy many times before he finally won his first Oscar at last night’s award show.

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 19th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

HBO’s practice of prepping a second season before the first premiered is a tried and true practice for many of the hit drama series of the network, and it’s being put into use for ‘Vinyl‘, now. Vinyl just debuted on February 14 to enough excitement that a second season is a simple decision.
