Hey guys, Jana here,

Trollsheader

DreamWorks Animation and 20th Century Fox have released a peek at their new feature, ‘Trolls‘. The film takes it’s name from the hideous Troll dolls that marched through every child’s life and are either hidden in the darkest corners of a toy box, or they’re given a spot of honor on your desk at work, you know who you are.

‘Home’ From Dreamworks Animation Trailer Is Here!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jun 12th, 2014

Hi, Jana here,

dreamworks-home

Dreamworks Animation has got another film headed to release in March of 2015. This time around, they’re hitting the “alien hiding out on earth” theme. ‘Home‘ will, of course, be released in 3-D and feature the voices of Jim Parsons, Jennifer Lopez, Steve Martin and Rihanna. With Parsons and Martin involved in the voice acting, ‘Home‘ has some hope of being more than just cookie-cutter dreck that seems to clog up the multiplex every week. Check out the trailer for ‘Home‘ and tell me what you think about it? Enjoy.

Hi Jana here,

Director Cary Fukunaga arrives at "Celebrate Sundance Institute" the Sundance Institute's inaugural benefit in Beverly Hills, California

Dreamworks is bringing in scribe Scott Silver to adapt the previously unpublished novel ‘Noble Assassin‘ by Paul Kix for a full-length film. Silver has written some memorable films like ‘8 Mile‘ and 2010’s ‘The Fighter‘. Cary Fukunaga director of HBO’s first season of ‘True Detective‘ will direct. He is also set as the director for the remake of one of my childhood favorites ‘IT‘. I’m going to be scouring his work looking for signs that will show either good or bad for the future of Stephen King’s quintessential tale of disappearing kids and the horror that lurks under the town of Derry, Maine.

Film Review: ‘Office Christmas Party’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 9th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

L-R: Kate McKinnon as Mary Winetoss, Jason Bateman as Josh Parker, T.J. Miller as Clay Vanstone, Olivia Munn as Tracey Hughes in OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, and Reliance Entertainment

We’ve all been to Christmas Parties at the office before, and this time of year, when it’s Christmas, we get a plethora of holiday themed films. Well, the end of 2016 gives us ‘Office Christmas Party‘, the vulgar rated R Christmas movie that centers around a giant office Christmas party that’s made by the filmmaking duo of Will Speck and Josh Gordon (‘Blades of Glory‘). Does this offer any insight or something new to the comedy Christmas genre? No, not at all. That being said, this is a highly entertaining and hilarious film that I can see myself watching every year around the holidays. With the all-star cast, good soundtrack, funny dialogue, and an office party that we would all want to attend – ‘Office Christmas Party‘ is a success.

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The-Secret-Life-of-Pets-3

It seems like there are a wealth of animated talking animal movies these days. With Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks releasing ‘Zootopia‘, ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, ‘Finding Dory‘ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3‘ recently, it only seems fair that Universal dipped their hands into the sub-genre as well with ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘. Universal’s animation studio Illumination Entertainment brought us ‘Despicable Me‘ and those darn ‘Minions‘ to the big screen, which has made the entertainment business billions of dollars. It seems logical for the studio to cash in on the talking animal genre now, since everyone else is doing it, however with an already over-crowded market for these films, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ may fall short of beating out ‘Zootopia‘ and ‘Finding Dory‘ in both the financial and critical realms. I’m not saying that ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ is a bad movie or anything. In fact there are some great moments that are funny and charming, but it loses itself in the second half of the film when it becomes an action-caper movie that becomes over-the-top and even drags in its short run time of less than 90 minutes.

Rip-offs are never as good as the original, whether we’re discussing, a pair of not-so Jimmy Choos, your stylish almost Dior handbag that is stamped proudly with lettering that flakes off after a few days use because it isn’t quite top brand quality, also that bag will begin unraveling at the seams, so avoid it, and invest in quality. No, I don’t believe that the manufacturer producing knock-offs is unaware of their similar product to one that cost 8 times as much as theirs, they’re shady AF and purposely going after a devoted customer base because it’s easier to steal customers than to cultivate your own. I don’t believe knock-offs only exist in the fashion industry. The entertainment industry has their own versions of the act.

The major Hollywood studios are in a giant bidding war for the rights to the board game ‘Monsterpocalypse‘, which is a board game from Privateer Press that resembles Guillermo Del Toro’s film ‘Pacific Rim‘, where humans get into giant sized robots to fight large monsters. With the success of ‘Pacific Rim‘, it’s no surprise that a ton of studios want in on this cash cow and make it a franchise project, which is exactly what the studios are looking to do.

Film Review: ‘Bridge of Spies’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 14th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

‘Bridge of Spies’ by DreamWorks Studios.

The year 2015 gives us yet another Tom Hanks/Steven Spielberg movie called ‘Bridge of Spies‘ with an added bonus of the Coen Bros. serving as co-writers. Now with a cast and crew like this, I expect something that would live on forever and win all the awards come award season. That’s not really the case here though, as Spielberg’s recent directorial efforts have been lacking a bit. I’m not saying they’re bad, I’m just saying that ‘War Horse‘ and ‘Lincoln‘ were long, slow, dreary period pieces with no real momentum, despite some awards and critical acclaim.

Hey guys, Jana here,

galaxyquest

Was there a better spoof comedy in 1999 than ‘Galaxy Quest‘? I’m gonna go ahead and say there wasn’t and Quest was the greatest thing since ‘Spaceballs‘. As far as space spoofs go, it was killer and it helped that Tim Allen starred. In the 90’s I was addicted to ‘Home Improvement‘ and couldn’t get enough of the comedian. I actually read both of his books and watched every show in syndication so many times that I could quote them in my sleep. With my love of Allen, it was a given I had to watch ‘Galaxy Quest‘, the bonus part was, it was an epic movie on its own!

There has been a lot of speculation recently about Steven Spielberg’s upcoming projects. Two of them will be for DreamWorks, and people have been curious as to which film he will tackle first. DreamWorks answered that question by announcing release dates for his next two projects. First, there is an untitled cold war, spy thriller, which will hit theaters on Oct. 16, 2015. Then less than a year later, his adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s book The BFG (The Big Friendly Giant) will open on July 1, 2016.

Roald Dahl is a fantastic author that doesn’t get nearly enough mainstream credit. Film-goers have enjoyed his stories for years and most of us grew up with at least one of them. Favorites like ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘The Witches‘, ‘Matilda‘ and ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox‘ are a few examples of Dahl’s work that has been given a big screen treatment. Ernest and Celestine” is an Academy Award nominated (Best Animated Feature) film, from the creators the “Triplets of Belleville” and “The Secret of Kells”, about the unlikely friendship between a bear and mouse. I watched this film in its original French language with subtitles, but it is also available in a dubbed English format, with a voice cast including some slackers you’ve probably never heard of like Forest Whitaker, Mackenzie Foy, Lauren Bacall, William H. Macy, and Paul Giamatti. Though the French cast is not packed with name droppers (for Americans anyway), they are perfection, especially Pauline Brunner who voiced the darling little mouse Celestine, and Lambert Wilson as the grumpy bear Ernest.

Film Review: ‘Mr. Peabody and Sherman’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2014

Rebecca S., Here….

When I was a little girl, I would snuggle up on the couch with my dad and watch reruns of his favorite cartoon, Rocky and Bullwinkle. He would tell me all about “moose and squirrel”, Boris and Natasha, George of the Jungle, and Dudley Do-Right… but the one I loved best was Peabody’s Improbable History. It was clever, snarky, educational in the worst way, and full of horribly great puns (which I am still a sucker for). I was worried when going to see the new DreamWorks (Shrek, How to train your Dragon) movie Mr. Peabody and Sherman, that it would not live up to the kitschy cool of the original 5 minute shorts. I was pleasantly surprised to find a smart, fun movie that kept the cool (and the horribly great puns).

Guillermo del Toro has signed on to write and direct an animated picture for Dreamworks Animation called “Trollhunters”.  Now this is not to be confused with the upcoming mockumentary Norwegian film “Troll Hunter which you can find info about HERE.

Trollhunters is based on a forthcoming youth novel by del Toro.

Guillermo said in an interview, “ animation has caught his eye because he believes that during the next 10 years, the entertainment landscape will shift into a transmedia world — a confluence of movies, TV, books, video and online — and artists will need to be educated in all aspects of media.”

“Transmedia,” he said, “will not just be a buzz word.”

Anything by Del Toro, I am interested in.  This is one to keep your eye on.

Zombieland 2 Has Been Written

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 7th, 2010

Since the opening of Zombieland it was clear that a sequel was going to be in the works.  The director Ruben Fleischer will be returning to direct and Rhett Reese and Paul Wenick were put to work to write the sequel.

Well they knocked out a first draft and it seems that the original cast will be back for another tale of Zombieland.  I just do not know yet on how much they will be in the film or if the film will follow another set of survivors.  Ruben also told the press that he might want to explore Zombieland further in the future and also show a few scenes before the outbreak hit.

Ruben is currently filming “30 Minutes or Less” and has got another deal to make a Buddy Action Cop movie for Dreamworks so Zombieland might be a few years away.  But I can breathe easy knowing that Zombieland 2 will happen.

Ruben said this to MTV: “What’s fun about the sequel is we have freedom and flexibility to show different periods. We might have scenes before the zombies, or we might have some months after, or potentially stuff further down the road. Through the voice-over and the way the movie is structured, we can really explore all different sides of it.  When it comes to 3-D, I feel pretty strongly that you should shoot it in camera,” he said. “I feel like it just looks so much better. If you’re going to make a 3-D movie, go ahead and make a 3-D movie. I would definitely, if we do  “Zombieland 2″, make it in 3-D and want to shoot it in 3-D.”

I wonder if in Zombieland 2 we will get another kick-ass cameo.  It is hard to beat Bill Murray.  It would be great if they ran into Bruce Campbell.
