Molly’s Game‘ is the upcoming adaptation of the book of the same name by Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who was, not just young and beautiful but the woman behind  the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game. She ran this for 10 years before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents hefting automatic weapons. This high-level game brought in not just Hollywood’s elite, but sports stars, business wizards and even the Russian mob. With everything stacking against her, the one ally she can count on is her criminal defense lawyer who learns there are more layers to Bloom than what the media lets on.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

51yd7Y49EUL._SX329_BO1,204,203,200_

We all know and love Aaron Sorkin by now, right? He was the amazing screenwriter of the ‘West Wing‘, ‘The Social Network‘, HBO’sThe Newsroom‘, ‘Moneyball‘, and the recent ‘Steve Jobs‘ film. He has always been a writer, but hasn’t yet sat in that director’s chair yet. That’s all about to change as Sony has offered him to direct his first film as well as writer it, or shall I say adapt it from the 2014 book, ‘Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boy’s Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker‘, which is the memoir of Molly Bloom.

Actors, directors and writers that have worked a lifetime creating a legacy that will withstand time, and their work as artists will be seen for generations to come. Near the top of that list is the talented and beautiful Cate Blanchett.

Wolverine Returns to Broadway with Aaron Sorkin!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…..

That’s right.  Hugh Jackman will head back to the big stage on Broadway for a new show, but not as Wolverine.  But rather ‘Houdini’.  Houdini marks the debut of Aaron Sorkin on stage, with music by Stephen Schwartz. Jack O’Brien has been set to direct the production, which will be presented by producer Scott Sanders and David Rockwell, the latter of whom will design the sets.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Molly’s Game’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 28th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein)

Do you have a girl crush on Jessica Chastain? Do you have a man crush on Idris Elba? If you have any combination of the two, Molly’s Game is going to make you have all the feels. This is a well done film with all the right players and script that packs a punch. Aaron Sorkin (screenplay and first time director) has taken the novel Molly’s Game and turned it into a film that at a run time of two hours and twenty minutes seems fast paced and doesn’t waste your time. While I know literally nothing about poker, this movie kept me entertained and engaged because the story wasn’t the game-it was the players.

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

NBC is attempting to bring a live musical to the airwaves, yet again. ‘The Sound of Music‘ brought in a singing heavyweight with the wide-eyed Carrie Underwood as Maria, then they attempted a second musical with the absolute shit-show that was ‘Peter Pan‘. Steve Jobs is the topic of another biopic project. This time around Christian Bale is going to play the legendary genius opposite Seth Rogen’s Steve Wozniak. Bale and Rogen are shoring up a cast that will possibly include Jessica Chastain in an unspecified role.  Alone, Jobs and Wozniak were brilliant, but together the tech world would never be the same once they launch Apple. Writer Aaron Sorkin has adapted Walter Isaacson’s biography, ‘Steve Jobs‘ for Sony. Oscar-Winning director Danny Boyle (‘Trainspotting‘, ‘Slumdog Millionaire‘) is leading the life story. David Fincher was originally attached as director but his demands of a $10 Million salary and full creative control was not met by the studio.

Christian Bale to Play Steve Jobs?!?!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 15th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Steve-Jobs-Stamp

Don’t worry. If you were wanting more biopics about Steve Jobs, the founder of Apple Computers, then you’re in luck. Recently, Sony is making yet another Steve Jobs pic and as of a week or so ago, Leonardo DiCaprio was set to play Jobs. But talks fell through and DiCaprio is no longer set to star. But don’t fret, Sony has someone else in mind. And that person is a superhero.

Move over, Ashton Kutcher! He may have Mila Kunis, but he does not hold a monopoly on playing Steve Jobs.  Jobs was an American entrepreneur, marketer, and inventor, who was the co-founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. Hi, Bryan Here….

HBO renews Sorkin’s ‘The Newsroom’ for a second season and ‘True Blood’ for a sixth season.  ‘The Newsroom’ update comes just one day after its second season.  Needless to say, it has tons of viewers and very positive reviews.  And the hit vampire/werewolf/werepanther/witch/monster show has been renewed for a sixth season.  This time, I don’t think Alan Ball will be involved.  It will be interesting to see how the show does with out him running the show.

Hi Bryan Here…..

The 84th annual Academy Award nominations are in.  There are a couple of surprises that I was very happy to see on here and tons of disappointment.  It looks like the Academy went with 9 Best Picture noms this year rather than 10.  They also only went with 3 noms for make up which I can think of others, and only two for original song.  Was this a time issue, so that the event would be over on time for once rather than have all 5 songs being sung?  I don’t like it, but that’s how it is this year.  Below you will see each category with my thoughts.  Enjoy.

Bryan Says ‘Moneyball’ Knocks It Out Of The Park!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 21st, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

‘Moneyball’ is one of the best written films of the year.  The cast and crew of this film hit a home run with this.  The acting, writing, filmmaking is all top notch here.  is a book by Michael Lewis, written in 2003 about the Oakland Athletics baseball team and Billy Beane which was there general manager. The book is about how the Oakland A’s used a math formula to construct a winning baseball team of “back up” ball players.  The reason was that the Oakland A’s had a strong disadvantage from anyone else in the league because of their financial situation.  By using this formula, the Oakland A’s won 20 straight games in a row breaking all records in baseball history.  This is a true story.

Cowdefender Logs Into the Social Network (Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 7th, 2010

The #1 movie in the country is getting rave reviews from all over the board.  With  a team like David Fincher (Fight Club) and Aaron Sorkin (West Wing) making this Facebook movie, you would definitely click the “Like” button.  Hope you enjoy Cowdefender’s review of The Social Network.

The Social Network

A compelling walk and talk with brilliant portrayals of some incredibly bright individuals. Sorkin dialog at its most tight. This movie packs 3+ hours of snappy dialog into its 2ish hour runtime. A complaint I often find with movies based on real people is that I wind up not liking anyone. That wasn’t the case here. I liked or felt sympathetic with most of the main characters.

The movie bends over backwards (in ways you won’t notice) to reinforce authenticity. In one scene Zuckerberg leaves a computer science class, the professor jokes that he must’ve found himself in over his head at which time Zuckerberg answers the exceptionally difficult question on his way out. What you don’t see is that as it was originally shot his technobabble was incorrect. It was later reshot with corrections later. Detail.

The only things that could resemble gripes about this movie are:

1. reverse Titanic effect
2. real stories don’t always have ends

As far as point 1: we know how the story ends. It’s the opposite of a tragedy. We don’t know all the details, but we have a good idea that the lawsuits won’t kill the Facebook. For point 2: the movie is a very interesting slice of the lives of some interesting people. It has a sensible beginning and end, but it doesn’t get to have some kind of grand closure. That is to say, it doesn’t really have the chance to stick the landing. But that is a very small gripe. I don’t know that they could have executed this movie any better than they did.

Rating:  8/10

Weekend Box Office Roundup

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2010

I can’t believe October is already here.  This year has been going by fast.

Well everone’s favorite social network Facebook is on top this week.

Aaron Sorkin’s “The Social Network” was #1 at the box office this weekend.  It brought in $23 million dollars.  It’s budget was double that.  So it has a ways to go.

Staying at the #2 spot this week is the cgi animated film “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole”.  It brought in almost $!1 million dollars bringing its two week total to at little of $30 million dollars.

The Wall Street sequel dropped from #1 to the #3 spot this week bringing in $10.1 million dollars for a combined two week total of $35.8 million dollars.

Ben Affleck’s “The Town” dropped down one spot to #4.  It brought in $10 million.

Easy A dropped down 1 spot as well to the #5 spot bringing in $7 million.

The Renee Zellweger thriller, “Case 39” opened up at the #7 spot bringing in only $5.3 million dollars.  The premise of this movie looks amazing, but I do not think it was marketed well.

The remake of one of the best vampire films EVER, “Let Me In” opened in at #8 bringing in $5.3 million dollars.  GO SEE THIS MOVIE.

For the first time since its opening, “Inception” drops out of the top 10 list and goes to #12.  It brought in less than 1 million dollars this week.  It is going on its 13th week in release.

That’s it for this time.  Stay tuned for next weekend.
