Ron Howard Shoots Second on Star Wars Han Solo Film!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 22nd, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

960

It’s official now. Ron Howard has taken over directing duties on the upcoming Star Wars untitled Han Solo spinoff movie. Yesterday, we got the unfortunate news that Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired after creative differences with the studio heads, mainly Kathleen Kennedy and Lawrence Kasdan on the tone of the film. Lord and Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street) spent almost five months making this Han Solo film, but again, were fired for having a different style than what the studio was expecting. It sent fans in an uproar for sure and for good reason. It’s ultra rare that studios will fire directors this late in the game.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer are a powerhouse combination and have no problem telling a story in a world not exactly grounded by gravity as ‘Apollo 13′ can attest and Skydance is pairing them up with writer Bill Broyles for a sci-fi adaptation of Neal Stephenson’s novel ‘Seveneves‘.

Dan Brown’s novels, beginning with ‘The Da Vinci Code’, have made excellent fodder for some seriously successful films. The old adage is true, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This seems to be the way Sony is viewing their franchise based on Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon.  Tom Hanks, director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer have all signed on to the third installment in the series which follows ‘The Da Vinci Code‘ and ‘Angels and Demons‘, ‘Inferno‘.

The Jungle Book (1967)

This project just can’t seem to get off the ground. Over the past few years, Rudyard Kipling’sThe Jungle Book‘ has been trying to get made over at Warner Bros. There have been a few big-time directors on the stand, set to direct this, but all have fallen through. Now it seems that Ron Howard is the next person in line to inherit this big project.

Ron Howard To Film Biopic on Barry Seal!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 10th, 2014

Jana B. here,

ron-howard-jj-abrams

Universal Pictures was caught up in a bidding auction against Sony. The prize? A hot script by Gary Spinelli (Stash House) that has yet to be written for the rock bottom price of $1 million! Ron Howard is already attached to direct. I’m sure Universal is banking on Howard’s vision to garner the film a big box office viewing, after all he is a proven success with films like ‘Apollo 13‘, ‘A Beautiful Mind‘, ‘Cinderella Man‘ and ‘The Davinci Code‘ that have ruled their box office runs. Doug Davison, Brian Grazer and Kim Roth are all attached to produce or executive produce. Grazer is a success on his own steam and is often paired with Ron Howard for cinematic success.

Ron Howard’s new movie is called ‘Rush‘ and is a Formula One racing drama that follows the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 70s. Chris ‘Thor’ Hemsworth and Daniel ‘Inglorious Basterds’ Bruhl will star as the drivers. The film will release September 27th from Universal Pictures. I must say, it looks damn good. It’s been fun following Ron Howard on his social networks, seeing production videos and photos.

Film Review: ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2018

Disney is on a roll these days with their recent ‘Star Wars‘ franchise. Not only do we have the new Episodes, but we are getting spin-off movies that focus on a singular story from the past or a certain character. One character that we all have loved from the original trilogy, but don’t know a great deal about is Han Solo. Sure, we know he was a smuggler, is an anti-hero, loved the princess, and helped save the Galaxy with his wookie partner Chewbacca, as they flew from planet to planet on the iconic Millennium Falcon. Through the original trilogy, we heard small lines of dialogue that gave us the tiniest glimpse at his background and life before he met Obi-Wan and Luke. Fortunately, we now have ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘ to answer all of those questions for us.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

A week or two ago, there was a disturbance in the force as Kathleen Kennedy, LucasFilm, and Disney fired their Star Wars IX director Colin Trevorrow. You can read about that HERE. Turns out, the studio execs couldn’t handle having a big creative force behind Star Wars. The search was on for another director. Were they gonna go with another indie filmmaker with good credentials or play it safe like they did when they replaced Miller and Lord with the capable Ron Howard?

Star Wars Episode IX does NOT have a director anymore!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Wait, what? This shit again? Seriously, those Star Wars execs, including Kathleen Kennedy need to get their shit together, because this is the 2nd time in a couple of months this has happened. Back in June, Chris Miller and Phil Lord were let go from the Han Solo spin-off movie mid-way through the shoot for bullshit reasons. They brought on the capable, yet safe director of Ron Howard to finish the job. At least Episode IX wasn’t in full on production yet, but we did know that Colin Trevorrow was set to direct after his huge success on Jurassic World. That is not the case anymore. Trevorrow is out of the director’s seat, leaving Disney and Lucas Film to  find another filmmaker.

Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie is Happening!

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

Hey guys, Jana here,

The Dark Tower‘. The title is enough to make Stephen King fans, directors, actors and Hollywood as a whole hold their breath waiting to see which direction the next bit of news will be taking our emotions. Definitely with good reason, since the series of books has been attempted, many times over, to be cut into slices manageable enough for the big screen, it’s difficult because that novel series is a mammoth undertaking.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Nikolaj Arcel

Fans of the brilliant writer Stephen King get excited when we see a new film being made based on one of his brilliant tomes. We got creeped out by our dead pets in ‘Pet Sematary‘, our healthy fear of  clowns graduated into a full on psychosis after seeing Pennywise as ‘It‘, groaned in pain when we saw ‘Misery‘ on the big screen, in short, we laughed, we cried, we cringed and we loved every minute of it. One novel that has had trouble making it’s way to the silver screen is King’s western epic better known as the collective work of ‘The Gunslinger‘.

Could ‘The Dark Tower’ Go To Film This Time?!?!

by Red Zeppelbon on Apr 10th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

darktower102411

When Stephen King began Roland Deschains’ journey, I would wager he hadn’t comprehended the the size that the finished work would ultimately be, it’s an 8 book series, and it’s King’s magnum opus, and as such the author has crossed over the gunslinger’s world with several of his novels. The dream and hope that we can one day see this adapted to either big screen or mini-series swells and washes out. Is it time to start hoping again, though?

M-O-O-N That Spells ‘The Stand’ Adaptation!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 22nd, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

Stand

In a sea of comic book originated films, countless sequels, adapting TV series to feature film and vice versa. Among the horror movie offerings are some decent films, that may have a general theme or idea in the sequels but not really a continuing story. One film series stands out among the rest, Peter Jackson’s ‘The Lord of the Rings‘ and ‘The Hobbit‘ franchises broke the mold of cramming an epic novel series into one confusing film. There are great novels that would lend themselves easily to the same type of treatment Jackson gave Tolkien’s works, my nomination for the next author, goes to Stephen King.

Dwayne Johnson Announces Robert Ludlum Adaptation!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 30th, 2014

Hi guys, Jana here,

dwayne_johnson_36553

Robert Ludlum is the brain that brought us the Jason Bourne novels that have spawned into an incredibly lucrative film franchise. Even though the writer died in 2001, doesn’t mean that his cannon of work is at rest. Prior to becoming a writer, Ludlum was a U.S. Marine, a theatrical actor and producer. His experience in the theatre is likely what has led his written works to film adaptation so smoothly. He authored some 27 thrillers and although Bourne may be the most well-known of Ludlum’s characters doesn’t mean he was the only one.

Film Review: ‘Rush’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 26th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

NWS_20130904_New_006_28803830_I3

It’s no doubt that Ron Howard makes great films. His movies have won numerous awards and have starred the biggest names in the business at one point or another. That being said, I would go on to say that Howard’s films tend to be forgettable after the first year or so and begin to collect dust in people’s movie collections. There are a few exceptions with ‘Apollo 13‘, ‘Willow‘, and ‘Parenthood‘, but the rest of his resume tends to be forgotten and not watched as much as people claimed when it first came out. Unfortunately, this is the case with his new movie, ‘Rush‘. People will love it at first, but nobody will mention it next year.

So the Encore movie channel will be airing a documentary in November about the ILM company.  It will be narrated by Tom Cruise and will feature interviews by major actors and directors.

Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) is a division of Lucasfilm Ltd. and was founded by George Lucas in 1975 to create the visual effects for his space epic Star Wars. The studio originated in Van Nuys, California but moved to San Rafael, California to work on The Empire Strikes Back and is now headquartered at the Letterman Digital Arts Center in the Presidio of San Francisco with a sister studio in Singapore.

ILM has worked on nearly 300 films in its 35 year history and has largely been the driving force behind the evolution of modern visual effects.  From the liquid metal man in Terminator 2: Judgment Day to the lifelike digital dinosaurs in Jurassic park, ILM has created some of the most iconic moments in cinematic history.

ILM has received 15 Best Visual Effects Oscars and 25 additional nominations. It has also received 23 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in recognition of the critical role the company’s advances in technology have played in the filmmaking process. ILM is also the only entertainment company to be recognized with the National Medal of Technology.

I just hope it is an depth look at the company and not a broad view of it.  I will be recording it.

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Jurassic World:  Fallen Kingdom, the 5th installment of the Jurassic series, blows up the silver screen.  It’s been three years since the largest predators broke from their chains (again).  Isla Nublar is full of life and…death.  An Extinction Level Event befalls the island and its massive inhabitants.  Question:  Does an extinct species entitled to the right to live?  Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), and yes, Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) return to the screen to answer this question.

4K UHD Review: ‘Hell or High Water’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2018

THE FILM

(The film portion was written by Liz Tramer)

Director David Mackenzie’s latest film, Hell or High Water, is a perfect example of how slow and steady wins the race.  The film is a little slow to start, but once it gets going, it’s fantastic. The story centers around two brothers, Toby  Howard (Chris Pine) and Tanner Howard (Ben Foster) who are desperately trying to save their mother’s farm and keep it in the family. The brothers are literally under the gun to find the money and decide the quickest way to make the deadline is to rob banks. Toby is intelligent, calm, cool and collected and the brains behind the operation. Tanner is an ex con hothead who relishes the crime spree and does little to control either his rage or his inclination toward violence.

Soundtracks we want to see released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

preview

I just love soundtracks to movies. I always have and I believe I always will. There is something about a score to a film that just perks me up in all the right ways and inspires my creative side, whether it be to write a screenplay or go back an watch that old film I love. Music is an integral part to films and is considered to be the mojo of every movie. I’m sure we’ve all seen that odd YouTube video of the final scene in Star Wars: A New Hope, where Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Chewbacca walk down a crowded arena to receive their medals to zero music. It’s super weird and awkward with no music, but just random sound effects of footsteps and a rare cough, laugh, and Chewie’s roar. John Williams did such a great job, as he always does with Star Wars music, but that final scene of music really puts your emotions on full blast. It’s all from the soundtrack too.

His grandfather founded Washoe Mining Co. and built a sterling reputation until his death. Under Kenny’s leadership, the company suffered a plummet in profits. Repeatedly shunned by many investors, he hunted for new opportunities to pump life back in the Washoe name. All Kenny had in the world was Kay (Bryce Dallas Howard) who gives new meaning to the phrase “stand by your man.” Suddenly, Kenny sees the pathway to his future in a dream. THE FILM

Back in 1988, an excellent creative team consisting of director Tom Holland, writer Don Mancini, producer David Kirschner, and visual effects wizard Kevin Yagher got together and made ‘Child’s Play‘ and psychological thriller turned horror film about a serial killer’s soul that is transferred into a kid’s toy doll and wreaks havoc on this family in Chicago. Nobody knew at the time, but this small little film would be an instant cult classic with rave reviews from audiences and critics alike for years to come. Not only that, but this film hatched numerous sequels and created one of the most famous horror icons in pop culture – Chucky.

Top 10 Soundtracks We Want To See Released on Vinyl!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

say-anything

Many of you might already know that I love listening to movie soundtracks. I always have. Since I was a little tyke who could barely see over a counter, I was infatuated with movie scores and soundtracks, particularly the ‘E.T.‘ original motion picture score and the ‘Beverly Hill Cop‘ soundtrack. From there, my love and passion grew for all types of music. My parents had a pretty good record collection that included all three original ‘Star Wars’ albums, ‘The Wizard of Oz‘, and ‘Star Trek I and II’ to just name a few. Throughout the years, I now have a fun record collection that spans all genres of music from Frank Zappa to Rage Against the Machine, from R.L. Burnside to The Pixies, and so on. Along the way, digging through the dirty stacks of crates at local record shops and estate sales, I became hell bent on having one of the best Soundtrack collections. And over the past several years, I’ve been lucky enough to acquire some very sought after albums. But there are still so many soundtracks that have never found their way to vinyl, either commercially or ever really. So here is a list in the hopes that maybe Varèse Sarabande, Mondo, or Death Waltz will consider releasing these albums in the near future.

2015 Disney Film Release Dates With Trailers!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

star-wars-disney-570x307

While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!

Hey guys, Jana here,

TV has been mining their company film vaults for movies that will lend themselves easily adaptable for long-term series fare. There have been countless movies that are being bastardized and the announcements just keep coming. This news is just a little different. Instead of the patented approach of movie to series, this move is a little different due to it being a film, that was already made into a series and now will be re-invented once again.

Hello, Jana here,

The-Hobbit-Horizontal__121120103557-575x348

Peter Jackson is the current go-to-guy for sweeping epics including Dwarves, Elves and dragons. The original ‘Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy was entirely successful and brought to life a story a lot of us grew up reading. I thought the Rankin and Bass animations were pretty awesome for what they were, but Jackson’s film treatment of the series blew away any of my expectations. Before Jackson began the conversion, I had the poorly carried out vision of a little nightmare of a film called ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ by director Courtney Solomon, stuck in my head as for what Jackson’s films would probably end up looking like. This is one moment where I was beyond thrilled to be wrong. Now someone go back and fix the ‘Dungeons & Dragons‘ movie, please?

Amazon Announces 4 Pilots Green-lit for Series!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 13th, 2014

Hello Jana here,

 dt.common.streams.StreamServer

Amazon jumped head-first into original programming with 5 pilots that were uploaded to their site where they encouraged viewers to watch and comment their opinions. I’m guessing they got the reaction they wanted as they have now picked four of the titles to give a series order. This includes the first dramas for their fledgling, innovative line-up with ‘The After‘ and ‘Bosch‘. Their new comedy series are ‘Mozart In The Jungle‘ and ‘Transparent‘. The fifth pilot that was not picked up, ‘The Rebels‘ comes from Ice Cube and Michael Strahan. From Amazon’s first pilot season saw eight comedies going to pilot while only two were picked up for series, ‘Alpha House‘ and ‘Betas‘. Of those two, ‘Alpha House‘ has been renewed for a second season and ‘Betas‘ has been discontinued.

Warren Beatty hasn’t been featured on the big screen for quite a while and he is ready to change that. Film Review: ‘Parkland’

Hi, Bryan Here….

I currently reside in Dallas, TX. Whenever a friend or family member come to visit, one of the things on their list to see is the 6th Floor book depository, which is now a museum, and where exactly the former US president Kennedy was assassinated. There is actually an “X” in the middle of the road painted on the asphalt where the bullet went through. You can still stand on the grassy knoll and picture in your mind the events of that horrible day. There have been countless movies and tv shows since his death that have documented or told a narrative story on what happened, but nothing has been shown like Peter Landesman’s ‘Parkland‘ before.

‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Film Review!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Welcome back to Middle Earth.  Peter Jackson‘s version of J.R.R. Tolkien‘s ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey‘, which covers the first six chapters of the 19 chapter book, is very faithful to the original material. Jackson has gone back to the world that made him a household name and literally translated verbatim from page to screen, which is sure to blow the minds of fans of the book. However, at its almost 3 hour run-time, ‘The Hobbit‘ feels sluggish and never seems to pick up any sort of pace.  That being said, i have no doubt this movie will make hundreds of millions of dollars before the year is over.

Hi Bryan Here…..

I was thoroughly surprised with this movie.  It was really good.  I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did.  The acting was superb all around.  Oscar worthy even.  The writing, story line, and direction was all done to a tee.  Director Tate Taylor did a wonderful job at adapting the book to screenplay form and into a wonderful film.  The video and sound quality on this bluray are top notch which make ‘The Help’ a truly great release.  I definitely recommend this film.
