Disney is looking to fill out its Star Wars slate for the years to come so they can bank billions of dollars in the coming years. One of those films is going to be centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was originally played by Alec Guinness and then Ewan McGregor in the horrible prequels. Obi-Wan is the Jedi Master who nudges Luke Skywalker out the door to become a Jedi.

According to THR, director Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) is being courted to make the stand-alone Star Wars film, which is currently in the early stages of production. It doesn’t even have a script at this time. I imagine, if this upcoming Han Solo film does well from Ron Howard, Disney will fast-track this Obi-Wan film, along with a Yoda and Boba Fett film to be released in the coming years. Again, there is no script yet and there are no casting announcements, however, McGregor has said that he’d be open to play the character again.

So far, these new Star Wars films have been top notch. I have no big worries yet for this mega franchise, so I welcome these off-shoot films in the Star Wars universe. I really want a Jabba the Hutt film and his gangster life shown through the years. Now that’s something I can really get behind. More information to come, but if I read that McGregor is playing Obi-Wan again, I’m gonna force-choke myself into utopia.
