TV Review: The New ‘JACK RYAN’ Series!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 4th, 2018

This weekend I had the time to watch the entire first season of Amazon’s new series Jack Ryan. Growing up I enjoyed all of the Harrison Ford versions of Jack Ryan and even liked the Ben Affleck iteration. The reboot attempt with Chris Pine fell pretty flat for me a few years back but I’ve always enjoyed the character. John Krasinski’s Jack Ryan is a perfectly serviceable TV hero but is really bogged down by the story around him. In an effort to be optimistic, I will say that I am hopeful for the second season.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Amazon is in the CIA business, well the business of running a TV series based on a CIA hero – Jack Ryan. The streamer ordered 10 episodes  straight-to-series for the drama that will star John Krasinski as Ryan. The project comes from Carlton Cuse, writer Graham Roland, Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount TV. Three scripts have been submitted by Cuse and Roland which likely helped with the straight-to-series order, not as much as snagging Krasinski for the lead though.

Fernando’s Review of ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 16th, 2014

Fernando M., Here…

Hey guys!  Remember Jason Bourne?  Hell no you don’t!  At least you won’t give a crap about him after you watch JACK RYAN!  The director of “Thor” (Kenneth Branagh) shows us that he can again take really old source material and totally revamp it for today’s audience.  Jack Ryan is given about fifteen minutes of really effective origin story, and then a whopping hour and a half of non stop action.

Hi, Bryan Here…

jack-ryan-shadow-recruit-film-clip-a-serious-sniper

It’s been quite a number of years since we saw the character Jack Ryan save America from an impending doom. It’s been twelve years in fact since ‘The Sum of All Fears‘ where Ben Affleck played Jack Ryan. Before him was Harrison Ford in ‘Patriot Games‘ and ‘Clear and Present Danger‘, and Alec Baldwin played the hero character in ‘Hunt for Red October‘. This time around we receive a much needed reboot to the franchise, and let me be the first to say, this is a solid action spy thriller. I can’t wait for the sequel.

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Paramount will release the next Jack Ryan film on December 25th, 2013.  This will mark the return of the Tom Clancy character Jack Ryan, previously played by Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Alec Baldwin.  This time around, Jack Ryan will be played by Chris Pine (known for portraying the new Captain Kirk in Star Trek).

Hi, Bryan Here….

Paramount is trying to get the ‘Thor’ director to take over the troubled Jack Ryan series so they can finally put out another film.  This is happening because the original director Jack Bender (LOST) stepped down because none of the execs or creative team could come to terms on what type of film they want to make.  Chris Pine was set to take over as the star previously played by Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck according to Vulture.

A Star Trek Sequel Will Come Before A Jack Ryan Sequel!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 30th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

Paramount Pictures has been working on a new Jack Ryan film for quite sometime now.  But tons of obstacles have fallen in its path.  Most recently, they have been eyeing Chris Pine (Kirk from the new Star Trek) as playing the ttle character the likes have Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck have played in the past.  Well it seems that Paramount has put the new Jack Ryan film on the back burner in order for the next Star Trek film to be released which has no release date or start date yet.

The Ryan Gosling Jacket Investigation!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 13th, 2017

Written By: Dan Moran….

There have been tweets and style articles written about Ryan Gosling’s jackets over the past year, but after seeing Blade Runner 2049 last night, are we sure he’s ever read a script? Would it really be so ridiculous to assume that almost every role that Ryan Gosling has ever played was based on his agent just laying two jackets out and Ryan deciding which one was better? More importantly, is Ryan Gosling even a good actor? Are we sure his jackets aren’t giving him this power?

An investigation has been opened.

There’s a new film called ‘Jackpot‘ that has signed on Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Armie Hammer (The Social Network), and Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) to star. I even hear that Jennifer Garner is about to sign on to the cast as well. ‘Jackpot‘ is of course a remake from a 2011 Norwegian action-comedy film about a guy who wakes up in a strip club with a gun in his hand and surrounded by a bunch of dead people. Oh yeah, and the police have their guns drawn on him when he wakes up.

Bryan Reviews ‘Nurse Jackie’ Season 3 Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 28th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The 3rd season of Showtime’s ‘Nurse Jackie’ is here.  And starting in April, the 4th season will start.  I can’t believe it’s been 3-4 years that this show has been on.  Kudos to ‘Nurse Jackie’.  This bluray is top notch.  Showtime really struck gold with Edie Falco as Jackie. She is tremendous in this role.  Even better than her Sopranos role.  This disc has some good extras, and a really fantastic audio/video presentation.  If you are a fan of the show, you know you are already picking this up.

Hi Bryan Here….

Tim Burton’s ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ was an instant cult classic.  Even to this day, people hold viewings to sold out crowds, dress up as characters from the film in public, and all the merchandising riddle clothing shops, toy stores, book stores, and gifts shops around the globe.  ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ is an amazing achievement in filmmaking.  This film has already been released on blu-ray, but Disney has converted it to 3D.  This version comes with the 3D Bluray, 2D Bluray, DVD, and Digital Copy.  Another great version to this timeless classic.  Loved it.

Bryan Salutes Jackass 3D (Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 18th, 2010

For more than ten years now, these guys have been physically abused on and off camera for our enjoyment.  Before that it was Bam doing his CKY videos which were mostly skateboarding, but with JACKASS like skits intertwined.  It was not until Bam Margera, Johnny Knoxville, and Jeff Tremaine got together and JACKASS was formed.

Over the years we have seen these guys use their bodies as targets for guns, we have seen them eat poo, and use themselves as live bait for sea creatures, and much much more.

I believe these guys do a lot of good.  They take people’s fears; rather it be heights, getting stung, or hit in the face, or eating creepy things, and show you it is not only fun and hilarious, but that your fears can be conquered.  They are non discriminate and accepting of everyone.  They are good people and great at what they do.

These films are consistently funny and they are all in my top comedy films of all time.

So after 10 years we get a third JACKASS film in 3D no less.  Yes it is the same camera used to film AVATAR, so the entire film is in 3D.  And let me tell you, this movie is what 3D is made for.  These guys, despite their aging, have not lost their step and edge.  They take brutal shots to the face by various objects, fall from 60 foot trees, and much much more.

Also to open up the film, two great american icons open up the film that have not been on the big screen in quite some time.  It was a true pleasure to see them again and hopefully they do another movie.

This movie is a hilariously funny film and I can only hope for more.

Go see this movie.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The most popular and well-known man in the world was and maybe still is Michael Jackson. He had fans all over the world and inspired not only the common folk, but many great musicians over the past 30 years years. Michael Jackson won tons of awards for his music, produced and created some of the best songs ever made, delivered the best music videos, and started a big charity called Heal the World. His life was in the tabloids constantly with hideous scum people making up stories that forced him to be a recluse for most of his life. He was just a man who became a father to three kids and when he was pushing 50 years old, he was more or less forced to perform 50 concerts as a way to make ends meet and provide for his family. Much has been said over the many years about Michael Jackson.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Coming out of the Venice Film Festival, filmmaker John Landis has released a 3D version of Michael Jackson’s legendary music video/short film THRILLER. I can’t even right now. I’m so torn on this news. On one hand, this is the best announcement ever. On the other hand, it’s an announcement in 3D, which really doesn’t make anything better or brighter other than a Jackass sequel. What we’re hearing is that this 3D version of Thriller is just a pre-cursor of at least two other big announcements regarding the late King of Pop in the coming weeks.

Top 10 Ryan Gosling Scenes in Movies!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 17th, 2017

Audrey E., here….

Screen Shot 2017-03-17 at 9.59.40 AM

Ryan Gosling is a true patron for the arts. Proof of this can not only be found in his selective partaking in films with telling characters, but also in his accomplished side projects. There’s his under-appreciated dark wave and gothic indie band, Dead Man’s Bones, and we can’t forget his courageous 2014 directorial debut in the fantasy drama, Lost River. He’s come a long way from his humble beginnings as a Mouseketeer on The All New Mickey Mouse Club, and despite the pressure from Hollywood to keep up appearances, Ryan concentrates on staying true to himself and what matters most: his art. Today I’ve put together a list of my Top 10 favorite Ryan Gosling performances in film and why this talented Canadian, a true 21st century James Dean, is more than meets the eye.

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

samurai-jack-vs-aku

That’s right. Cartoon Network, or shall I say Adult Swim is brining back ‘Samurai Jack‘, and we have the first trailer for the new season, which is being dubbed as season 5. I was 20 years old when ‘Samurai Jack‘ first aired. I was in college, honing my samurai sword skills, eating fast food, and partaking in the rolling of joints. I don’t know if any of that had an  effect on me in watching ‘Samurai Jack‘, but you can believe I very much enjoyed the show. You can also believe I had no friends, with the exception of my pet gerbil and my He-Man action figures. I still turned out ok. Still, it’s great to see Adult Swim pick up some of the heavy lifting from Netflix in brining back fun TV shows. Now I have to remind my mom to Tivo ‘Samurai Jack’ for me every week.

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2015 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2015 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2015.  I believe this year I watched over 175 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some strawberry cake covered in Lucky Charms, I finally had a TOP 15, however, these films are in no particular order this year. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

I’ve pretty much given up on all music award shows over the past several years. The lack of real talent and people who consider themselves musicians are being regarded as music geniuses, when in fact they just aren’t. Most of the main-stream music industry has become more about costumes and being naked rather than actually having a good voice, using real instruments, and putting those two things together to create something magical. Of course there are exceptions to this, but there are not many. But speaking of something magical, let’s talk about Michael Jackson.

Bryan’s Film Review: ‘American Hustle’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 20th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

new-images-from-the-hobbit-american-hustle-and-the-monuments-men-142354-a-1375953418-470-75

Formally titled ‘American Bullshit‘, director David O. Russell has generated a lot of buzz for this film over the last few months. Coming off his Oscars for ‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ and ‘The Fighter‘, you might think ‘American Hustle‘ might be on par with his previous two films. While this movie is indeed great, it lacks any sort of depth or meaning that  Russell has embraced in his previous efforts. But what he lacks in depth and meaning, he makes up ten fold in acting, characters, and insanity. I have no doubt that this 1970’s comedy con-artist film will wow audiences with its comedy and sex appeal, but don’t expect a “think piece” here. With tons of other choices this holiday season, it’s difficult to say how this will do at the box office, but with an A-List cast and the amount of hype this has, I imagine decent returns.

Tolkien and his work for a long time.  Colbert has mentioned his fandom about Tolkien’s works on his Comedy Central show for years now.  Well, it looks like Mr. Peter Jackson has made one of his dreams come true.  A source close to the project has confirmed that Jackson has added Mr. Colbert to the film trilogy, however it won’t be the upcoming ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’, which is set to release December 14 of this year.

Hi, Bryan Here…

“Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me. And sure enough, ex-military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter-a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot.”

Bryan Reviews ‘Seven Psychopaths’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 11th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Martin McDonagh’s ‘Seven Psychopaths’ is highly entertaining.  I was a huge fan of McDonagh’s ‘In Bruges’ and have since then been wanting more from him.  It’s been four years since ‘In Bruges’, which was the last thing McDonagh did, and I can safely say that McDonagh’s writing and directing has only gotten better.  McDonagh is the next Tarantino and ‘Seven Psychopaths’ is an excellent film.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Argo’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 11th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Ben Affleck’s ‘Argo’ is a brilliantly told film.  Affleck has come a long way since ‘Dazed and Confused’ and ‘Mallrats‘.  In my opinion, Affleck has gotten better with each directorial effort with ‘Gone Baby Gone’, ‘The Town’, and now ‘Argo’, which I think is his best yet.  Not only is ‘Argo’ a great film, it has a smart script, good acting, clever humor in a serious and tragic situation, and impeccable period detail that rivals AMC’s ‘Mad Men’.  I have no doubt that ‘Argo’ will be in my Top 10 list for this year.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Hotel Transylvania’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Hotel Transylvania’ is a huge spectacle on the eyes.  With giant colorful monsters, swooping camera pans at every scene, and a somewhat decent voice cast, you’d think ‘Hotel Transylvania’ would be the perfect movie for all ages this Halloween.  However, ‘Hotel Transylvania’  relies more on the visual aspect with keeping little kids entertained to the fullest every second, that the story and characters get left buried underground.  With the other animated monster and zombie films that are out right now, this one ranks low on the list.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Finally, after several years of going in and out of production, the new Wolverine film is finally taking shape.  James Mangold is directing the project.  Mangold directed ‘Cop Land’, ‘Girl Interrupted’, ‘3:10 To Yuma’, ‘Identity’, and ‘Walk the Line’ to name a few.  Not sure how to take this film yet.  At one point, Darren Aronofsky was attached to direct, but that fell through.  I was not a fan of ‘Wolverine Origins’, but hopefully this film will be much better.

Bryan’s Review of ‘Sleepwalk With Me’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 10th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Sleepwalk With Me’ is the sleeper hit of the year.  Back a few years ago,  genius comedian Mike Birbiglia added a long monologue to his stand-up comedy routine called ‘Sleepwalk With Me’. In it, he talks about his real-life sleeping disorder called REM Behavior Disorder where he literally acts out his dreams.  Sometimes, they have serious and painful consequences.  In ‘Sleepwalk With Me’, Birbiglia takes his story a bit further as he plays himself with a different name.  He plays Matt Pandamiglio, a rookie stand-up comedian in New York who has been with his girlfriend Abby (Lauren Ambrose) going on almost a decade now.  As his comedy career starts to take off, Matt struggles with committing to Abby.  ‘Sleepwalk With Me’ is not only warm, inviting, and charming, but it’s one of the funniest films of the year.

Hi, Bryan Here….

How cool.  I one day I get to write about two of my favorite musicians.  Tom Waits and now Michael Jackson. I only wish they would have been able to collaborate on an album together.  It would have been epic.  We first found out about this 25th anniversary album a few weeks ago, but we didn’t know what all was included.  Today, the good folks at the MJ Estate and Epic/Legacy Records announced all the details for the upcoming 25th anniversary release of the famous ‘Bad’ album.  There are DVD’s and tons of new songs.  I can’t wait.

Bryan’s Review of ‘The 6 Month Rule’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

When it comes to romantic comedies, I feel I see the same film over and over again, but with different actors.  The story usually ends up the same in every circumstance.  While, I know that’s the point for a romantic comedy, I always yearn for something different. Something that is not afraid to stray from the typical plot.  With Blayne Weaver’s ‘The 6 Month Rule’, it was a breath of fresh air to see the romantic comedy genre get turned on its ear and change the game.

Bryan’s Review of HBO’s ‘Treme’ Season 2 Bluray!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 19th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

HBO’s second season of ‘Treme’ is just as good as the first season.  It’s a story of character, tragedy, music, and the spirit of New Orleans post Katrina.  HBO really knocked this release out of the park with the excellent extras and superb video and audio transfers.   If you are a fan of the above, you definitely need to pick this up.  This receives my highest recommendation.

Bryan Reviews ‘That’s My Boy’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

We all still love Adam Sandler.  He gave us great characters in Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, and his many iconic roles on Saturday Night Live.  But at some point, Sandler started making lazy, unfunny, and obnoxious films and characters.  It made me not want to see any of his films.  There were a few brief moments of greatness from him over the past several years in his more dramatic roles, but when it came to his comedies, Sandler and his films have become a joke.  His last film, ‘Jack and Jill’ was one of the worst films to come out in the last twenty years, with his previous comedies not too far off from that.  That being said, Sandler’s ‘That’s My Boy’ is his welcome back party. A welcome back to the great comedic genius he was once known for.

Bryan Reviews ‘Prometheus’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 14th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

“In space no one can hear you scream.”

We have all been hearing about a movie called ‘Prometheus’ for sometime now, and all of us fans have been trying to piece the puzzle together on what it has to do with Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’ film.  Since Scott directed ‘Prometheus’ and the original ‘Alien’ film, there has to be some sort of connection from what we have seen from the trailers, right?  The filmmakers told us that ‘Prometheus’ would be a prequel to the ‘Alien’ film.  After seeing ‘Prometheus’, I can say that it’s a very early prequel.  I’m  certainly happy Scott returned to this universe, because the ‘Alien’ franchise has been in a state of decay for a number of years starting with the 4th installment and then onto the ‘Alien vs. Predator’ series.  So, I was truly hoping to get an original film, but with strong ties to the ‘Alien’ franchise.  The question is, did it work?

Bryan’s Review of Linklater’s ‘Bernie’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 4th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Richard Linklater’s film, Bernie, was inspired by an article in Texas Monthly Magazine by Skip Hollandsworth titled ‘Midnight in the Garden of East Texas’.  The article was an editorial about a murder committed in the small East Texas town of Carthage, Texas.  Hollandsworth’s editorial argued that the entire town supported the killer, rather than the victim.  Regardless of the fact that the killer confessed, the evidence proved his guilt, and a court sentenced him to life in prison, the entire town still believes he is innocent.  This real-life story translated into a hilarious dark comedy.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joss Whedon’s Avengers is what every comic book geek and action film fanatic has dreamed of since they were a little kid.  Not only was it one of the most epic films ever shot on film, but Whedon used his wit and unique story telling to weave these iconic characters into a team that destroys evil.  You see, it’s not all about the people who form a team and save our planet.  It’s about a group of people from different times and different worlds, who necessarily don’t belong together, but realize that by teaming up, they form something bigger than themselves.  And notice that I don’t use the term superhero.  None of the Avengers refer to themselves or think of themselves as heroes, with the exception of Captain America, who really is the only hero in the story.

Bryan Reviews ‘Queens of Country’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 19th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

It is hard to think of a comparison for the movie ‘Queens of Country’ because, quite honestly, I’ve never seen anything like it.  Directors Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke may have just created the first of a new film genre, seamlessly weaving comedy, angst, campiness, desperation, musical numbers, and line dancing. It is rare to find a film that is so original and oddly amazing that it succeeds on all levels.  ‘Queens of Country’ breaks the rules of film and takes you on a hilarious journey of love, confusion, and music.

Hi, Bryan Here….

How many Transformers films, tv shows, spinoffs have there been?  Too many to count.  Nothing will ever compare to the original series and film in my opinion.  Sure, some people say the originals were full of cheese, like the ones today, but I disagree.  I have gone back and watched the original series on my DVD volumes and in my well respected opinion, that they still hold up today as they did back in the 80’s.  Especially the film.  This all CG animated series ‘Prime’ at first had me thinking I would hate it just as much as the Michael Bay films, but to my surprise, it wasn’t all that bad.  I actually thought a lot of the series was pretty kick ass.

Bryan Reviews ‘Warrior’ DVD!!! (A DVD Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 15th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here….

‘Warrior’ was surprisingly a knock out with me.  I really enjoyed this film.  Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, and Nick Nolte were all killer in this film.  I was hoping Nolte would get an Oscar nod for his role in this.  And guess what?  He did.  ‘Warrior’ was a very inspiring film and sticks with you for a while.  I only wish this film has more push while it was in theaters.  This DVD was packed with extras.  Only wish I had received the bluray version of this.

I was totally smitten with ‘Real Steel’.  I went into the film thinking that it wasn’t going to do much for me, but I was blown away on how great this movie was.  I really enjoyed it.  The FX are top notch and it looks incredible on bluray.  The extras are pretty decent as well.  The movie warms the heart, has some very thrilling and tense fight scenes, and a bit of comedy.  This could be fun for the whole family, and it will.  I definitely recommend ‘Real Steel’.

‘Cannonball Run’ is most certainly an acquired taste.  Much like a fine scotch.  It’s not for everyone.  If you’re a fan of those late 70’s early 80’s silly goofball comedies, than ‘Cannonball Run’  is the movie for you.  However, if you aren’t, then this movie will be like nails on a chalkboard.  I will say that it has an amazing cast with the likes of; Burt Reynolds, Farrah Fawcett, Dom Deluise, Roger Moore, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Chan, Adrienne Barbeau, and Jamie Farr to name a few.  This i movie is a lot of fun if you’re into this sort of thing, and my guess is that like myself, you have seen this over a dozen times.  ‘Cannonball Run’  is a zany film to have fun with.

Hi Bryan Here….

Now I’ll be honest.  I have only seen the first Pirates film and now I have seen the latest ‘On Stranger Tides’ film.  I didn’t care much for the first film.  I felt it dragged and was too boring. I know it had a huge budget and was full of adventure, but the adventure and action was less than stellar.  I know I’m the odd man out on this issue as I know tons of friends love this series of films and swear by it, but really never did much for me.  Saying that, I do think Johnny Depp is AMAZING in these films.  He definitely deserves an Oscar WIN.  Other than that and maybe the fact that Keith Richards has a little something to do with the films, I just can’t get into it.  Same rings true for this ‘On Stranger Tides’ sequel.  Yes, it had a bit more thrill and fun, but ultimately fell short.  I wish I felt differently.  I really want to like these movies, but sadly I can’t do it.

Hi Bryan Here…..

I am too old for the Phineas and Ferb craze and culture, but I must say that this cartoon movie and the cartoon itself is quite spectacular.  Don’t get me wrong.  It is silly and stupid, but I can totally see this cartoon on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim line up.  It just needs the little push to become a little more raunchy and it will totally have it.  Phineas and Ferb I believe started in 2007 and this film ‘Across the 2nd Dimension’ was released earlier in 2011.  These crazy characters and hilarious and exciting adventure prove that Disney’s Phineas and Ferb can not only be loved by the young ones, but by teens and adults.

I’m a huge sucker for HBO original programming.  HBO is pretty consistent in how amazing their original programming is.  With ‘How to Make it in America’, it just fell flat to me.  The show is okay to some degree.  I like the actors in the show especially Lake Bell.  She is going high places.  And Eddie Kaye Thomas (Finch) is pretty great too, but I just don’t really identify with any of the characters.  But I might be one of the odd men out on this one as I know tons of friends love the show.  But this release is packed with tons of extras and a pretty decent video/audio presentation.

Bryan Reviews ‘Dead Alive’!!! (A Blu-Ray Review)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 11th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

“I KICK ASS FOR THE LORD”!!!  Ahhhhh, finally Peter Jackson’s gore fest is finally on bluray.  This is labeled the goriest film ever made and I must say this is a true statement.  This was Peter Jackson’s answer to Raimi’s Evil DEAD 2.  Jackson perfectly blended horror and comedy and gore all into one brilliant film.  This release is a must own for the sole fact that this is the best the film ever has looked and sounded.  Sadly, there isn’t any extras on the disc sans a theatrical trailer.  Hopefully further down the road there will be an anniversary edition of some sorts with tons of awesome extras.  Would love to see a behind the scenes festurette on this release.

Hi Bryan Here….

At the beginning of the 20th century, China is in a state of crisis. The country is split into warring factions, the citizens are starving, and recent political reforms have made matters worse, not better. The ruling Qing Dynasty, led by a seven-year-old emperor, and his ruthless mother, Empress Dowager Longyu (Joan Chen) is completely out of touch after 250 years of unquestioned power. Huang Xing (Jackie Chan) has recently returned from Japan, where he has studied the art of modern warfare. When he finds his country falling apart, he feels he has no choice but to pick up the sword, leading an increasingly desperate series of violent rebellions against the powerful Qing Dynasty and the New Army- several with tragic consequences.   Jackie Chan’s 100th film.  This looks amazing.  Glad his 100th film wasn’t ‘Rush Hour’ 4.  Enjoy the Trailer.

Hi Bryan Here….

Lionsgate is prepping Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’ and ‘Jackie Brown’ for Blu-ray for a release date of October 4, 2011.  Finally, these will be in Hi-Def and complete for the most part my Tarantino collection on Blu-ray.  Both films will be newly remastered that will be supervised by Tarantino himself and will sport brand new 1080p video and lossless audio.  New extras will be added on both discs. Hi Bryan Here….

‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’ is a film by Wayne Wang who is probably most known for his film ‘The Joy Luck Club’.  Over the years Wang has directed movies such as ‘Smoke’, ‘Because of Winn-Dixie’, and ‘Maid in Manhattan’.  These are a far cry from ‘Joy Luck Club’, ‘A Thousand Years of Good Prayers’ and his most recent ‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’.  I must say I am happy to see Wang return to the Chinese American storylines in his films.  He does this effortlessly.  ‘Snowflower and the Secret Fan’ is based on the novel by Lisa See.

Hi Bryan Here….

Peter Jackson declined last minute to come to comic-con due to his epic ‘Hobbit’ double feature wasn’t near ready yet to bee seen, but he did give us a tiny glimpse into Middle Earth once again.  This is going to be epic.  Enjoy the picture above.

Hi Bryan Here….

Kevin Costner has just joined Quentin Tarantino’s Spaghetti Western ‘Django Unchained’.  He is set to play a character named Ace Woody.  “He’s the sadistic trainer of the male fighting slaves who entertain the white patrons of Candyland as well as the female slaves who are forced to be prostitutes.”  This is a different role for Costner as he will be more of the villain than the good guy.  Plus, I think this will re-vitalize Costner’s career in a good way.  I already can’t wait to see this film.
