Film Review: ‘[Despicable Me 3]’!!

by Janet White on Jun 30th, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Despicable Me 3, the fourth film in the franchise, brings back to the screen the lovable and “special” characters from the previous films, Gru (Steve Carell), Lucy (Kristen Wiig), Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), Agnes (Nev Scharrel), and those crazy Minions. In addition, a new crazy villain bursts on the screen and in your face, literally EXTREME close-up, Balthazar “Evil” Bratt (one of the comedic greats, Trey Parker). I really liked Parker’s take on the antics and the extra cheese factor as Bratt. Gru’s life has changed so much since Despicable Me 2, he’s married to Lucy and officially fighting crime instead of causing it. Then in an embarrassing display, Evil Bratt sends a deathblow to his career. What will Gru do? Read the rest of this entry »

WWE: RAW 3/9/15 Recap: Never Ever Trust a Viper

by Angelic Heel on Mar 13th, 2015

open

Angelic Heel once again…

The road to Wrestlemania never looked so bleak as it does now for all those loyal members of the WWE Universe that have proudly Bought In. Pittsburgh, PA was the scene of one of the most brutal unjustified beatings I have witnessed. RAW came to us live from the Steel City and was filled with its typical hard hitting action and more Intercontinental Championship shenanigans, but it was all darkened by the actions of one man, Randy Orton. Want to know what happened?

Film Review: ‘Believe Me’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2014

Paul N., Here…

Believe_Me_Film_Poster

There’s a fine line between clever satire and biting criticism. Too often, people cross that line inadvertently and thus alienate those they are attempting to speak to. The task of walking that fine line becomes even more difficult when the subject matter is something as popular (and polarizing) as Christianity. Believe Me takes a satirical look at evangelism while simultaneously holding fast to ideals popular among that same target audience.

Here Come The Minions!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 16th, 2014

Jana B., Here…

minion

If you’re disappointed that you won’t get to see the cute, quirky, 3 fingered minions from the ‘Despicable Me‘ movies before the third installment of the crazy popular ‘Despicable Me‘ series on June 30, 2017, I have fantastic news! Illumination Entertainment with Universal Pictures announced the 3D CG animated comedy, ‘Minions‘! Slated to release on December 19, 2014, we also know who two of the stars will be. Jon Hamm, crazy popular as Don Draper from ‘Mad Men‘ and Sandra Bullock, (‘Gravity‘, ‘The Blindside‘). Bullock is voicing the Audrey-Hepburn-esque Scarlet Overkill, as dangerous as she is fashionable, and bent on world domination. Hamm is voicing Scarlet’s husband as inventor, Herb Overkill. The film sees the faceless many minions competing to be a henchman for Overkill.

Film Review: ‘Despicable Me 2’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 2nd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Despicable Me 2

It’s going to be difficult box office wise for ‘Despicable Me 2‘ to beat its predecessor, which made over $543 million just three years ago. The directors and writers are back again with Steve Carrell as the whacky former criminal mastermind Gru who we saw last time stealing the moon. How can one top that? This fun sequel may lack the heart and soul of the first film, but is still highly entertaining for both kids and adults with its amazing animated visuals, laughs, great voice cast, and those likable minions.

Despicable Me‘, the 2010 film, was an amazing story about a villain slowly learning to have a heart. Three years later, we get a sequel, which is unfortunately little more than an attempt to make more money on what was a wonderful original idea.

Film Review: ‘Battle of the Sexes’!!

by Janet White on Sep 22nd, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

The year was 1972; Billie Jean King (Emma Stone) had just won the US Open. Thrust into the mainstream limelight, emerged into the Women’s Lib movement, and treated as the lesser sex by the world, King breaks free from the bonds of the United States National Lawn Tennis Association. The USNLTA paid the female players considerably less than the male players for illogical reasons like men are the big ticket sellers; men need the money for their families, etc. With her trusted friend and manager, Gladys Heldman (Sarah Silverman), along with her and other female tennis players the face of tennis was forever changed.

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The-Secret-Life-of-Pets-3

It seems like there are a wealth of animated talking animal movies these days. With Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks releasing ‘Zootopia‘, ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, ‘Finding Dory‘ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3‘ recently, it only seems fair that Universal dipped their hands into the sub-genre as well with ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘. Universal’s animation studio Illumination Entertainment brought us ‘Despicable Me‘ and those darn ‘Minions‘ to the big screen, which has made the entertainment business billions of dollars. It seems logical for the studio to cash in on the talking animal genre now, since everyone else is doing it, however with an already over-crowded market for these films, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ may fall short of beating out ‘Zootopia‘ and ‘Finding Dory‘ in both the financial and critical realms. I’m not saying that ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ is a bad movie or anything. In fact there are some great moments that are funny and charming, but it loses itself in the second half of the film when it becomes an action-caper movie that becomes over-the-top and even drags in its short run time of less than 90 minutes.

Film Review: ‘Minions’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 10th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

b1279ad7e58b11c4212e7f8c4a6c6def

Minions have existed since the first amoebas dawned the depths of the ocean.  The film opens under an endless sea of evolution.  From single cell organisms to complex beings, the minions and their cute little eye(s) moved through time serving big bosses from T-Rex to the worst historical monsters.  As loyal of servants as they can be, the minions are the worst bad guy sidekicks, EVER; poor, poor T-Rex never saw it coming.  No wonder why they know and speak in so many languages.  I know I heard Spanish, French, and, of course, gibberish.

‘The Doctor and the Devils’ Blu-Ray Review!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Nov 19th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

doctoranddevils

THE FILM

The Doctor and The Devils‘ is a gothic thriller from the same production company that issued ‘The Fly‘, ‘Spaceballs‘ and ‘Robin Hood: Men in Tights‘ – Brooksfilms. Until I researched a little for this review, I didn’t even realize Mel Brooks‘ company made anything other than the classic hilarity his name automatically recalls. Brooks picked up the script from legendary poet Dylan Thomas, wherein the story of true life grave robbers, Burke and Hare is told. Maybe it was Brooks’ success with ‘The Elephant Man‘ that led him back to the surgical-experimentation game, whatever the conditions were, ‘The Doctor and The Devils‘ did not receive the same praise.

First trailer for ‘Minions’ is finally here!!!

minions-film-2015

If you have managed to survive this long without knowing who or what ‘Minions‘ are, you lead a sad life and I pity you. This could also mean you have no children in your life and you, yourself are not a fan of animated kiddie fare. Either way, I want to ask “Why are you reading this?” Don’t go anywhere, I’m glad you’re here. This is something I’m excited to share with you. Minions are fantastically hilarious little denizens that have existed since the beginning and their sole purpose is to serve the most ambitious villains they can find.

Some animated films stay with you, like Beauty and the Beast, Toy Story, Lion King, How to Train Your Dragon, and Shrek. There are some that you really enjoy and recommend to friends, for example The Lego Movie, Despicable Me, Wreck-it-Ralph, and Iron Giant. And then, there are those that you see that you think will only be good for people with kids because they have catchy songs and flashy colors, but not much else. Enter Rio 2, which falls solidly into this category.

Last year, we saw two films tackle the darkest of moments in American History.  Quentin Tarantino’sDjango Unchained” gave us a “what if?” historical satire that was a hit with critics and audiences alike.  Steven Spielberg chimed in too with the also acclaimed, though incredibly white washed, “Lincoln,” which depicted the legislative maneuvering that underwent to abolish slavery.

BLURAY/DVD Releases For the Last Week of September 2010

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 27th, 2010

Tons of releases this week including my favorite film of all time.  It seems that a few weeks go by with some “ok” releases then one week later oodles of BADASS releases come out, burning a giant hole in my wallet.  Well this is one of those weeks.  Like before, click on the link/picture to be whisked away to AMAZON where you can purchase the movie for a big discount.  Enjoy this week’s releases.

This was a hard film to catch in theaters because it was a very limited theatrical run. Remember that film a few years ago, “Open Water” about that couple that went snorkeling in the ocean and their tour boat left them in the middle of the ocean accidentally? Well, “Frozen” is a little bit like that. A few college kids go skiing for a weekend and take the chair lift up one last time right when the park closes. Midway up the ski lift and about 100 feet up in the air, the chair lift stops and the park closes for the entire week and does not open again until the weekend. Five days without food or water in freezing conditions. What would you do? Check this film out!

Special Features include:

Audio commentary with Writer/director Adam Green and actors Shawn Ashmore, Kevin Zegers and Emma Bell
Catching Frostbite: The Origins of Frozen
Three Below Zero
Shooting Through It
Beating the Mountain: Surviving Frozen
Deleted scenes
Theatrical trailer
*Exclusive to Bluray* – Audio commentary with Adam Green, cinematographer Will Barratt and editor Ed Marx

A spin-off of 2008’s hugely successful Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Get Him to the Greek reunites Jonah Hill (Superbad), playing a low-ranking record-label employee, and Russell Brand (Despicable Me), the ultimate larger-than-life rock-star Aldous Snow. Also starring are Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) in a devastatingly funny comic turn, Rose Byrne (“Damages”) and Elisabeth Moss (“Mad Men”), plus cameos from music and media stars including Pink, Christina Aguilera, Lars Ulrich, Pharrel, Meredith Viera, Billy Bush, Mario Lopez, Kurt F. Loder and Paul Krugman. This is as raunchy as “The Hangover” and as funny as Superbad.

Special Features include:

Gag Reel
Getting in Tune with the Greek
The Making Of “African Child”
Five complete music videos featuring Aldous Snow, Infant Sorrow, and Jackie Q
Musical Performances
Deleted, Extended, and Alternate Scenes including Alternate Intro/Ending

I really loved Iron Man 2. It was such a blast in the theater to see. The action was non-stop and the characters were even more developed which made me care amore about them. This is something that has been lacking in the comic book film adaptations. Seeing Iron Man and War Machine team up and kill bad guys was out of this world. Mickey Rourke did a phenomenal job as the villain “Whiplash”. This movie had it all for me, even the cool cameos of Thor, Hulk, Black Panther, and the awesome Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. I am looking forward to a 3rd film as well as the Avengers movie in a couple of years.

Special Features include:

Commentary by Jon Favreau
Creating Stark Expo
Practical Meets Digital
Four deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Jon Favreau

Exclusive to BLURAY Features* include:

Four Blu-ray exclusive deleted and extended scenes with optional commentary by Jon Favreau
Concept art gallery

Music Video: AC/DC “Shoot To Thrill”

Finally. My favorite movie of all time. The 1933 version of King Kong. Actually I have two favorite movies. King Kong and Army of Darkness, but Army of Darkness has already been released in HD, but King Kong (1933) has not, until this week. What an epic movie this is. I love everything about this film. It is not so much an action adventure story but a love story. Pure and simple. “It was beauty killed the beast.” From that first moment that Kong sees Fay, he falls in love, but deep down he knows he will be doomed, for he cannot have anything so beautiful in life. But he protects her from everything and will stop at nothing to be with her, even if it means his own demise. This movie is a must own. i am so excited that this is finally out on BLURAY.

Special Features include:

Commentary by creature creator Ray Harryhausen and visual effects artist Ken Ralston, with archival sound bites from Merian C. Cooper and Fay Wray
I’m Kong: The Exploits of Merian C. Cooper (2005 TCM documentary)
The Making of Kong, Eighth Wonder of the World (7-part documentary)
Trailers

I will see anything with David Bowie. Anything. Especially a David Bowie War Film. Now this is a criterion release which means it is the best release you can get. “In this captivating, exhilaratingly skewed World War II drama from Nagisa Oshima, David Bowie regally embodies the character Celliers, a high-ranking British officer interned by the Japanese as a POW. Music star Ryuichi Sakamoto (who also composed this film’s hypnotic score) plays the camp commander, who becomes obsessed with the mysterious blond major, while Tom Conti is British lieutenant colonel Mr. Lawrence, who tries to bridge the emotional and language divides between his captors and fellow prisoners. Also featuring actor-director Takeshi Kitano in his first dramatic role, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is a multilayered, brutal, at times erotic tale of culture clash that was one of Oshima’s greatest successes.”

Special Features include:

•The Oshima Gang, an original making-of featurette
New video interviews with producer Jeremy Thomas, screenwriter Paul Mayersberg, actor Tom Conti, and actor-composer Ryuichi Sakamoto
Hasten Slowly, an hour-long documentary about author and adventurer Laurens van der Post, whose autobiographical novel is the basis for the film
Original theatrical trailer
A booklet featuring an essay by film writer Chuck Stephens and a 1983 interview with director Nagisa Oshima by Japanese film writer Tadao Sato

Rock & Rule stars Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Cheap Trick and more in this animated classic rock movie. The movie is about Angel, a member of a punk rock band in the apocalyptic future, is kidnapped by Mok, a legendary super rocker. Obsessed with an evil experiment, Mok plans to use Angel’s voice to summon a demon from another dimension. The rest of the band follows Mok to Nuke York in an attempt to rescue her and then the ultimate battle of good vs. evil begins. Why would you say no to this movie? This will be watched with beer and friends at midnight.

Wow. Two releases in the same week with Iggy Pop. Add to that cast, Alice Cooper, Henry Rollins, and Malcolm McDowell (A Clockwork Orange) and vampires, and you got yourself “SUCK”. It is about a band’s bass player that becomes a vampire, down and out rock band, The Winners are launched into spotlight. Stalked by creepy producers, wild groupies and the legendary vampire hunter Eddie Van Helsing, The Winners soon find fame to be a fate worse than death. Doesn’t that sound AWESOME?

Special Features include:

Audio commentary
Making-of featurette
Music Video
Cast-and-crew interviews
Deleted scenes

Another one of those PG-13 animated superhero films. Ed Asner lends his voice talent to the cast which is always a plus. “After a spaceship splashes down in Gotham City Harbor, Batman and Superman encounter a mysterious Kryptonian with powers as great as those of the Man of Steel. The Kryptonian is soon revealed to be Kara, cousin of Superman, who takes her under his wing to educate her about the ways of Earth. However, the villainous Darkseid has other plans. Seeing an opportunity to finally defeat Superman, Darkseid abducts and gains control of Kara, utilizing the powerful Kryptonian to do his bidding. It’s up to Batman and Superman to save Kara, but they’ll have to take the fight to Darkseid within his hostile world – where unknown, deadly threats lurk around every corner, including a brainwashed Kryptonian able to match Superman blow-for-blow.”

Special Features include:

DC Showcase: Green Arrow (short film)
Sneak Peek at the Next DC Animated Movie
Supergirl: The Last Daughter of Krypton featurette
Two bonus TV episodes handpicked by Bruce Timm

*Exclusive BLURAY Featues* include:

The New Gods
Orion and Mister Miracle Mini-featurettes
Two more TV episodes handpicked by Bruce Timm
