THE RHYTHM SECTION – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 29th, 2020

“The Rhythm Section comes up short and is far from anything thrilling.”

Blake Lively steps into the assassin world in The Rhythm Section from cinematographer turned director Reed Morano, based on the popular book of the same name by Mark Burnell. With international intrigue, a terrorist plot, and sheer vengeance at its core, The Rhythm Section is more grounded than it seems, but with an awful script and some serious pacing problems, this thriller comes up short and is far from anything thrilling, despite its R rating for violence. Even the title is horrendous. This all being said, Lively and Jude Law turn in solid performances and try their best to edge this would be cliche of a movie into something better than it is.

Captain Marvel – Film Review #2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 5th, 2019

“Captain Marvel is perfectly acceptable and definitely worth seeing.”

Captain Marvel is a victim of Marvel’s release schedule. It is a perfectly fine and entertaining entry into the MCU but releasing it six weeks before Avengers: Endgame just can’t help but permeate my review of it. I am here for the end of the Avengers as we know them and while Captain Marvel is good enough, I found myself looking for easter eggs and Avengers tie ins instead of focusing on this story on its own. I assume I won’t be alone in how that taints my review.

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 5th, 2018

Bohemian Rhapsody

Imagine if someone made a Beatles movie but Ringo was the one who had the final say in every plot point? That’s what you get here. Surviving band members doing everything they can to make sure you recognize it wasn’t just Freddie Mercury in Queen. Guess what? We know that bu we don’t care.

A Deeper look into the ‘The Holiday’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 21st, 2017

In 2006 a little movie by the name of ‘The Holiday’ was released unto the world from the place where all darkness flows. It now signifies the start of “Holiday Movie Season” for countless women across the globe. I believe it is solely responsible for the Hallmark Channel’s holiday film slate every November-December. However, the imitators don’t even come close to the unique mess this film is. I actually don’t think I’ve seen the movie in one full sitting the past 5 years but it has been in such a rotation in my home that I’ve caught it in enough chunks to have seen it at least 10-12 full times since it came out in 2006. I really want to break down the absurdity of this movie to get everyone in the holiday spirit.

Film Review #2 ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2017

Dan M., here….

maxresdefault

I realize that I am late on this one. I was out of town when it came out and frankly, there were just higher movies on the list I needed to see. Well I got to see King Arthur: Legend of the Sword finally and let me tell you… it is really good. Out of every summer movie this year that I have seen, including Fate of the Furious and Guardians Vol. 2, I left the theater thinking about a sequel to King Arthur the most.

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

King Arthur - Trio

Forget every film about the story of King Arthur, because King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword has nearly nothing to do with them. Uther Pendragon (Eric Bana, Yum!) is still Arthur’s father and Igraine (Poppy Delevingne) is his mother, but there is an uncle thrown into the mix, Vortigern (Jude Law). I cannot recall the character in medieval tale (and I took a course on King Arthur in college). Anyway, Law played him pretty well. I will not give it away, but I do not think I have seen Law like this ever. Mordred is a sorcerer instead of the Arthur’s son from Morgaine Le Fay? Yes, this is King Arthur told in a novel method. Film Review: ‘Spy’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 4th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

melissa-mccarthy-spy-wallpapers_1074008723

Director Paul Feig and actress Melissa McCarthy make one hell of a team. Since ‘Bridesmaids‘, this duo have struck box office gold. It seems like Feig loves putting McCarthy in very similar roles, particularly a character who works for law enforcement or some government intelligence agency. In ‘Bridesmaids‘, McCarthy’s character was a CIA analyst who had the codes for all the nukes. In ‘The Heat‘, she was a hardcore Boston police officer and detective.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

jude-law-black-sea-universal-980x551-5317

We had the pleasure to sit down with director Kevin Macdonald in Dallas, TX. recently, where we discussed his late submarine film ‘Black Sea‘, starring Jude Law. He talks about how he filmed underwater, some behind the scenes tactics, and we even discuss his favorite scenes from movies. And no, he is not Norm Macdonald’s cousin.  Enjoy and see ‘Black Sea‘. Film Review: ‘Black Sea’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 21st, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

4075_D022_00093_R.jpg

Jude Law in a submarine movie, you say? Why yes please. I had only hoped that we would get Jude Law playing ‘Dom Hemingway‘ again here, talking about his private parts in such a way that it seems poetic, but unfortunately that’s not the case with his character or this film, titled ‘Black Sea‘. Director Kevin Macdonald has an impressive resume for sure, with films like ‘Marley‘ and ‘The Last King of Scotland‘ under his belt. Where those award winning films might have shown us something more on a serious level whether it be about a historical figure or brilliant musician, ‘Black Sea‘ tends to journey into the ludicrous realm on am adult ‘Hardy Boys‘ type of quest.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

melissa-mccarthy-spy-movie-trailer-poster6

Paul Feig, who has given us ‘Freaks and Geeks‘, ‘Bridesmaids‘, and ‘The Heat‘, has been working on a new comedy action film called ‘Spy‘, which looks like his own unique version of ‘007 James Bond‘. The film stars the amazing Melissa McCarthy as a CIA analyst who is asked to go undercover in the field on a big international criminal case.
