by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 15th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

What in the actual fuck is going on here? I feel like this is a joke, but it doesn’t look that way. Brendan Fraser is replacing Ray Liotta in a film called ‘The Field‘, which is an Indian mafia movie, directed by first-time director Rohit Karn Batra. The film centers around a mafia family and their violence with others and internally after the head of the family dies. Fraser will play Charu, an American gun runner, who gets in the middle of this Indian family’s ruthless ways and dealings, according to THR.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Goodfellas’ 25th Anniversary!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 5th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

goodfellas-25th-600x450

THE FILM

By the time 1990 came around, Martin Scorsese had already made several masterpieces in film, which continue to be praised and talked about to this day. With the likes of ‘Raging Bull‘, ‘Taxi Driver‘, and ‘The Last Waltz‘, we all knew that Scorsese was one of the finest filmmakers and storytellers around. Even with just those three previous films mentioned, you’d know you were in for a treat when Scorsese wanted to show you something. Then 1990 came around and Scorsese once again changed the film community with a movie called ‘Goodfellas‘, which was his big foray into the whole mafia genre.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Muppets Most Wanted’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 14th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

MuppetsMostWantedBlurayCombo_jpg_rgb

THE FILM

It’s very difficult to find a sequel that’s as good as the original. There aren’t a lot out there that are great sequels, but when they do come along, they are remembered forever. And maybe what worked so well for the first Muppet film that starred Jason Segel and Amy Adams is that it had a human element to it, and didn’t just follow the Muppets around. That’s not to say that this sequel ‘Muppets: Most Wanted‘ isn’t a lot of fun and very entertaining. It is, but it doesn’t have that magic that the last one had.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Pawn’

by Gumbercules9000 on May 6th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

514a6YGGy1P

I had a lot of fun with ‘Pawn’. This is one of those instances where you are perusing movies online or at your local video rental place where you come across a film you’ve never heard of, but see tons of A-list actors on the front cover. And when we decide to purchase or rent based only on the cover, we usually have a 50/50 shot of really enjoying the flick. Most of the time, these particular films have a low budget and suffer from a wide range of problems. Sometimes the budget is too small to create a decent story and locations, and other times it’s bad filming. With ‘Pawn’, everything tends to work here and is a fun film that deserved a bigger audience.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Summer time means a million things to different people, but some things we can all agree on. Cook outs, swimming, catching lightning bugs, camping and baseball. It’s just as pure as mom’s apple pie and the star spangled banner and every spring, a new season swings into action and a new hope is born for your team to be a contender and play through October. The national past time has been the basis for a lot of movies and I’m making some sense of them all with my Top 10 favorite baseball movies.

Ten Great Lesser-Known Films Starring Big Name Actors!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 7th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

Green_street_hooligans

You might find yourself reading the following list, thinking “Hey! I’ve seen all these movies! How dare you claim them to be ‘lesser-known’!” My response to you, should you say such a thing, is “congratulations.” You see, just because you are a film nut like me, doesn’t mean that the rest of the populace is. The following is a list of ten good films with big-named actors that somehow slipped under the general radar. I’m not saying they are completely unknown, but based upon ticket sales, it certainly seems like they slipped the notice of the general public. These are all solid films that, should you enjoy these actors, you definitely want to check them out (the films, not the actors – although to each their own, I guess).

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Film Review: ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 27th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

url-1

Director Derek Cianfrance is one of the better filmmakers today. Even this being his third feature film, he has consistently shown that he has what it takes to make a powerful and character driven film each time so far.  ‘The Place Beyond the Pines‘ is an intense look at the effects of certain actions passed on from father to son over the course of 15 years, and while this story packs a punch, it also fails to be told in the smoothest way as each act of the film is a different time with a different lead that changes direction too suddenly to keep a lucid flow.  However, this indie film might garner enough attention and box office success from its cast, which consists of Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.

Oh man, this movie looks so good.  Michael Shannon might be one of the best actors out there right now.  Everything he’s in is amazing.  His role on HBO’sBoardwalk Empire‘ is creepy and yet satisfying. And I know he is just going to be the best Zod in the upcoming ‘Man of Steel‘ ever.  Now, we get him as a serial killer and assassin, with what looks like one hell of a cast minus David Schwimmer.  The trailer looks very intense.  Can’t wait to see it.

Film Review: ‘Killing Them Softly’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 30th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

‘Killing Them Softly’ not only is a brilliant and intelligent crime yarn, which will fulfill your violence, gore, and character levels, but also from beginning to end has a political and social undertone that makes this modern crime noir film much more than it looks to be. It’s been several years since Andrew Dominik made a film.  His last film was the impressive ‘The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford’ in which Brad Pitt starred in.  Well Pitt is back and even better than ever in ‘Killing Them Softly’.

FedMex’s Review of ‘Premium Rush’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 23rd, 2012

FedMex Here….

OK, so none of us had any high hopes for this film, and I’m surprised that I was still disappointed.  The entire film is not a failure, but it is a wasted opportunity for what could have been either a fantastic popcorn flick or a bona fide cult classic.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books.  ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy.  Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’.  Can’t wait.  Below is the official press release.  Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Films announced include titles in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes. The announced films include 17 Galas and 45 Special Presentations, including 38 world premieres.

AMC To Air New ‘Goodfellas’ Series!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 10th, 2012

Hi Bryan Here…..

AMC will be in business with some ‘Goodfellas’ in the near future.   That’s right, the Martin Scorsese 1990 film ‘Goodfellas’ will be turned into a series for AMC.  The series will take place in the general time era that AMC’s ‘Mad Men’ takes place.  And Nicholas Pileggi, who wrote the movie based on his non-fiction book Wiseguy, is on board to co-write the TV series adaptation with TV writer-producer Jorge Zamacona (Homicide: Life On The Street). The two will executive produce with the film’s producer Irwin Winkler and his son David.

13 Tzameti American Remake Is Happening

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 1st, 2010

Well the forces that be have decided to make yet another re-make.  This time  13 Tzameti.  Now I know most of you have not heard of this film let alone seen it.  Let me tell you.

SEE THIS FILM.

When I first watched this movie, I really did not know anything about it, other than it was a French Film and it was going to have violence of some sort in it.  That’s all I knew going into it.

Well, about half way into the movie I realized I was not sitting in my chair anymore and that I felt wet.  Yes I literally was sitting on the edge of my seat and sweating.  That’s how nerve destroying this movie is.  I don’t think I have ever done that in  a movie before besides Hard Candy.  This is one of the most suspenseful movies I have ever witnessed.  Yes it made me sweat.  Get the original film HERE.

It basically is a story of a young man who assumes the identity of a dead man.  A dead man who was involved in some weird scary shit.  Scary stuff like the underground world of power, violence and a russian roulette competition where if you lose, well, you will lose all.  What a fantastic movie.

So along with this never ending trend to remake every movie EVER, this film is being remade.

Gela Babluani (original writer/director) has returned to helm this project.  He has attached Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Ray Liotta, Ray Winstone, and 50 Cent to star in this new movie.  I wonder if this is the film that 50 Cent lost all his weight for.

See the Russian Trailer HERE.
