Hollywood has found their New ‘Ben-Hur’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
We have been talking about the ‘Ben-Hur‘ remake for a while here at Boomstick HQ, and now we have heard a big piece of information on casting. First, let’s go over what we already know. We do know that MGM and Paramount have teamed up to make a big budget ‘Ben-Hur‘ remake with director Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Day Watch, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter) to helm the film. We also reported earlier last week that Morgan Freeman was cast in the film. He will play Ildarin, the man who teaches the slave Ben-Hur to become the big bad chariot racer he turns out to be. And for a while, we were hearing that studio execs were putting out the offer to Tom Hiddleston (Loki from ‘The Avengers‘). But that’s not the case now.

Hi all, Jana here,
Vin Diesel has been giving the press a little sneak peek during his promotion of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘. Diesel mentioned that a certain actor was going to join the cast on ‘The Last Witch Hunter‘. Lionsgate has confirmed that Michael Caine has officially joined the Breck Eisner (‘The Crazies‘, ‘The Sahara‘) directed ‘The Last Witch Hunter’.

This was eventually going to happen as this project reboot has been trying get off the ground for a number of years. Well, the day has finally come to jump start this ‘Gremlins‘ project with the help of a little production company in Hollywood known as Warner Bros. Some executives have wanted to make a direct sequel where others have wanted to completely reboot the series from scratch. It looks like the latter won out.
Hunter S. Thompson’s Rum Diary Finally Gets A Release Date!!!!
Hi Bryan Here…
HOOOOORAY!!!! Fans of Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas can jump in the air and rejoice. Another Johnny Depp/Hunter S. Thompson film is coming.
I’ve got an “INCREDIBLE” update for you!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
‘The Incredibles‘ are making a comeback and Disney released character portraits in the most trendy, pop culture-ish way possible, as selfies matched with their artistic counter-part. Google’s Arts and Culture app has been the new driving force powering social media and everyone is doing it. I even tried to get a match on my dog, Duke, aka John Wayne, but there’s not recognition for pets, yet. Along with the images of the voice actors, we see stylized artwork of their on-screen persona, and it’s awesome to see anything coming from Disney Pixar about the upcoming sequel. But that’s not all they’ve given us. We get four new images, but we also get some plot details!
Jana’s Best of 2017!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.
For a year that put a spotlight on some of the shittiest behavior by some of the Hollywood elite, it was actually a good year for TV and movies. I didn’t limit myself in number because as I moved on with the brackets, I felt like I was making ‘Sophie’s Choice‘ on some of these, so they’re all getting in! I’m feeling my inner-Oprah here, You’ve made the list! You made the list! EVERYBODY made the list!! In order to spare myself any arguments, I’m stating up front that my picks for the “Best of 2017” are not edited in regards to scandal or hideous human behavior.
Favorite Movies of 2017!
Was 2017 a great year for movies? Of course it was. There were some excellent films to be released in 2017. There were also some bad ones for sure, but the focus on this article are some of the Best films that stuck with me long after viewing. Most people will give you their Top 10 list, but this is no Top 10, because there are just so many movies that I loved and feel passionate about, that I find it difficult and unpleasing to rank them.
Instead, these are my favorite movies of 2017, which I hope you’ve seen already. If you haven’t yet, you’re in for a real treat and I can’t wait for you to see them. Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..
‘Here and Now’ is coming to HBO in February from ‘Six Feet Under’ and ‘True Blood’ Creator!
Alan Ball has a new show coming out on HBO, meaning we should all pay attention to this. The new show is called ‘Here and Now‘ and stars Holly Hunter and Tim Robbins. If you don’t remember who Alan Ball is, he wrote a great film called ‘American Beauty‘, which won a ton of awards. He then went on to create ‘Six Feet Under‘ and ‘True Blood‘ for HBO. We’ve all been waiting patiently since then for him to come back to work on a new HBO series.
Disney-Pixar Gives Us Our First Peek At ‘The Incredibles 2’!!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
So we’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to ever get another Incredibles movie and Pixar has finally granted our wish. The film isn’t slated to debut until June 15, 2018 we couldn’t expect much footage to be shared yet. What we do have is a teaser that is less than 60 seconds, but shows us that we’re at the same time-frame the original film ended. Either that or Jack-Jack just isn’t going to age, but John Lasseter revealed that the second film “starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on”. Read the rest of this entry »
Blu-ray Review: The Big Sick!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
THE FILM
The Film portion is written by Beka Perlstein:
If The Big Sick isn’t on your must see movie list, do yourself a favor and rewrite the list. This film is the real life love story of how actor/comedian Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley) met his girlfriend and (spoiler alert) now wife, Emily Gordon. It’s not another Fault in Our Stars or Me Before You, it’s so much more than a love sick story. Behind the romantic comedy model is a story about a Pakistani immigrant who is struggling with identity, relationships, family, career and religion. To put it simply- he’s just trying to figure out this thing we call life.

Terrence Malick’s new film ‘Song to Song’ has a New Rockin’ Trailer!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
Some people love his films. Some hate his films. No matter which side of the spectrum you’re on, you have to agree that every one of Terrence Malick’s films look exquisitely beautiful. With movies like ‘Tree of Life‘, ‘Knight of Cups‘, ‘The Thin Red Line‘, ‘Badlands‘, and ‘Days of Heaven‘, you can’t help but become entranced in the story, characters, and visual spectacle of Malick’s filmmaking process. His past few films have mostly shown a variety of characters who rarely say anything on screen, but instead narrate the movie as it goes along, giving a better visual masterpiece of cinema than a dialogue driven movie.
Here Is The Official Trailer For ‘Batman v Superman’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
The official plan to release the ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘ trailer this coming Monday, but some dude with a camera phone spoiled those plans and put their shaky, grainy version with Portuguese subtitles out into the interwebs. Zack Snyder reacted by giving the fans what we want, a peek at the trailer.
