‘Hands of Stone’ follows the life of Roberto Duran (Edgar Ramirez), who made his professional debut in 1968 as a 16-year-old and retired in 2002 at age 50. In June 1980, he defeated Sugar Ray Leonard to capture the WBC welterweight title but shocked the boxing world by returning to his corner in the November rematch, saying ‘no mas’ (no more).

Film Review: ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 28th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Yorgos Lanthimos will hopefully be a household name in the coming years. The filmmaker just has an uncanny knack for the uncomfortable and weird while telling very compelling and twisted stories that will no doubt entertain us and make us think about it long after viewing his work. Coming off of films like ‘The Lobster‘ and ‘Dogtooth‘, the Greek filmmaker unleashes his best film to date with ‘The Killing of a Sacred Deer‘, which could be Stanley Kubrick’s ‘Eyes Wide Shut’s‘ sibling in both style and tone.

Blu-ray Review: Free Fire!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

THE FILM

Film Portion Reviewed by Janet White:

In typical 70s film fashion, Free Fire opens with an aerial scan of the city below.  Curvaceous, bold letters displayed nearly every cast member and some of the crew.  This got very old, long, and kept the pace slow.  Two men waiting in an alley… (Sounds like a bad joke, it was).  Stevo (Sam Riley) and Bernie (Enzo Cilenti) meet up with Justine (Brie Larson), Chris (Cillian Murphy), and Frances (Michael Smiley) for a shady gun buy with Ord (Armie Hammer), Vernon (Sharlto Copley), Martin (Babou Ceesay), Gordon (Noah Taylor), and Harry (Jack Reynor, how did they turn this hottie into a slob?).  Great cast, right?  Well, great casts alone do not a great film make.  The dialogue and plot points must harness and ride with that talent.

Powers Boothe

June 1, 1948 – Mar 14, 2017

When great entertainers pass away, it’s difficult to come up with the right way to mourn a life that still lives on for us in so many ways. The one way we can not just respect the life, but continue to enjoy the life they lived is with re-watching their movies that cement their presence in our lives.

Blu-ray Review: Orange is the New Black: Season 4!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 8th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-05-22 at 6.24.28 PM

THE SERIES

In the past, Orange is the New Black has developed a darkly comic and often tragic story with their series over the past few seasons, and this fourth season is no different, although it would seem things are more on the comedy side this time around than unhappy faces at the women’s prison. The show’s writers and producers can certainly weave current politics and social issues in to the show with ease in each character, but with season four, it seems like certain plot points are over-the-top.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM

Back in 1988, an excellent creative team consisting of director Tom Holland, writer Don Mancini, producer David Kirschner, and visual effects wizard Kevin Yagher got together and made ‘Child’s Play‘ and psychological thriller turned horror film about a serial killer’s soul that is transferred into a kid’s toy doll and wreaks havoc on this family in Chicago. Nobody knew at the time, but this small little film would be an instant cult classic with rave reviews from audiences and critics alike for years to come. Not only that, but this film hatched numerous sequels and created one of the most famous horror icons in pop culture – Chucky.

Film Review: ‘Jason Bourne’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 27th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Jason-Bourne-2

Hey now. Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne in the new film that is simply titled, ‘Jason Bourne‘, which teams up Damon and director Paul Greengrass once again for the spy thriller who seems to never remember who he is or where he came from. In addition to the usual losing sight of Jason Bourne, then spotting him in a big crowd, to losing him once again, the writers added HBO’sSilicon Valley‘ show to the element without all of the fun or comedy. I’ll get to that in a minute though.

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The-Secret-Life-of-Pets-3

It seems like there are a wealth of animated talking animal movies these days. With Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks releasing ‘Zootopia‘, ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, ‘Finding Dory‘ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3‘ recently, it only seems fair that Universal dipped their hands into the sub-genre as well with ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘. Universal’s animation studio Illumination Entertainment brought us ‘Despicable Me‘ and those darn ‘Minions‘ to the big screen, which has made the entertainment business billions of dollars. It seems logical for the studio to cash in on the talking animal genre now, since everyone else is doing it, however with an already over-crowded market for these films, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ may fall short of beating out ‘Zootopia‘ and ‘Finding Dory‘ in both the financial and critical realms. I’m not saying that ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ is a bad movie or anything. In fact there are some great moments that are funny and charming, but it loses itself in the second half of the film when it becomes an action-caper movie that becomes over-the-top and even drags in its short run time of less than 90 minutes.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

shane-jump

As I’m recovering from seven insane days of ‘Wrestlemania 32‘ in Dallas, TX., I’ve had time to reflect, contemplate, saturate, and regurgitate every I event I attended. I had my box of Booty O’s to make sure I wasn’t Booty thru the weekend, met some good people, watched some amazing matches, talked with some WWE Superstars, and lost my voice when Shane-O-Mac put his life on the line for the WWE Business. To quote a certain former WWE announcer, it was a slobberknocker of a week for sure that hit me in the solar plexus more times than I’d like to admit. WWE really did it up big this year for Wrestlemania 32. Not only did they put on several good shows, but they also broke records. There was over 101,000 people in attendance at AT&T Stadium for Wrestlemania 32, beating the previous record from Wrestlemania 3 by quite a bit. Not only that, ticket sales and merch sales were way up as well from previous years. It seems like WWE is growing exponentially with more and more fans tuning in every week. That’s a good thing. Instead of writing a recap of the entire weekend, I’ll give you some details of some of the cooler things I witnessed over the past week.

WWE: Possible Scenarios at the 2016 ‘Royal Rumble’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 24th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

maxresdefault

THE ROYAL RUMBLE ITSELF

One of the WWE’s most electrifying events is the ‘Royal Rumble’. Since the 1980s, WWE has been using the Royal Rumble match and PPV as the pre-cursor to Wrestlemania. In this match, anything is possible, as 30 wrestling superstars enter the ring in 90 second intervals. The only way to win the match is to throw the other 29 opponents over the top rope of the ring and be the last man standing. Over the years, there has been many surprises. Vintage wrestling superstars have entered the contest as well as underdogs. Sure, being the first entrant is the most difficult and being the 30th entrant is the easiest, as time is on your side, but that doesn’t stop you from winning usually.

Best Movies of 2015, According To Jana

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Another year has come and gone and brought with it about a billion movies, some were total crap and a waste of time, but others…oh they were worth every bit of time I spent. Pre-movie hype, post-movie discussion, and the random hours I spent thinking about it in the shower or sitting at a stop-light. Having said that, this is my list of movies that 2015 blessed us with, and maybe a few the year cursed us with.
