Have movie makers gone SO dry of original ideas that they continue to re-make perfectly good movies that aren’t even that old, yet? I take these re-makes personally since most of them are from the 80’s, which means I grew up on the films they destroy with a re-birth. Was Patrick Swayze really one of those actors that was so horrible, none of his work is safe from a re-make? Let us keep in mind that Swayze is now a verb, not just a noun. It takes an epic actor to make that kind of difference. Not only did they have to annihilate the Red Dawn I grew up with, there are still projects in the works that will destroy Dirty Dancing, Point Break and Ghost! I can add to that list of Swayze comfort movies that seem destined for destruction, Road House. It’s the sad truth.

Larry Cohen is one of those old-school filmmakers that has been around a long time and is universally loved in the business. Cohen is mostly known for his B-movie films and having a penchant for not taking “no” for an answer. His filmmaking methods are pioneering and risky, but all have been a big success in their own way. This new comedy series comes from Chris Lilley, creator and star of the acclaimed series “Summer Heights High,” which debuted on HBO in 2008. Blu-ray Review: ‘Full Moon High’!
THE FILM
From the vaults of the 1980s, comes a forgotten comedy/horror movie called ‘Full Moon High‘. Made in 1979, but released in 1981, you can’t help but think that the original ‘Teen Wolf‘ creators drew inspiration from this movie for their own 1985 classic. Unfortunately, ‘Full Moon High‘ never made it to cult status and has been lost on the shelves for years until right now, where we can bask in the glory of cheaply made werewolf high-school films that are meant to make us laugh rather than scare us.

There have been some ‘great movies’ for sure, that have been released since 2007, but a collective year of dominance like 2007 hasn’t been experienced in 10 years. We have to start with the films that people still talk about today from 2007. No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, & Zodiac. I mean what a Top 3 for one calendar year! The closest we got to this was in 2015 when the Top 3 was, Mad Max: Fury Road, Mad Max: Fury Road, & Mad Max: Fury Road.

Film Review: ‘Dirty Grandpa’!

January continues to roll in with the bad films as is usual for this time of year. It astonishes me that this screenplay was ever on the famed Hollywood blacklist. Perhaps some of it might have been funny on paper, but it never translated well into film, even with the star power of Robert De Niro as you’ve never seen him like this before. You won’t be surprised to see that the director of the film is a guy named Dan Mazer, who was the creative right-hand man to Sacha Baron Cohen since ‘The Ali G Show‘.

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Clearly I love movies if I’m spending this much time writing about them. Even better than finding out details on new and upcoming films is getting to review them. I have always given my friends and family suggestions on TV shows or films they should watch. It may take them a while to come around to doing it, but once they do, they’re as much in love with it as I knew they would be. I have one friend that is still snubbing my suggestion of a cure for depressing days by watching Cameron Crowe’s ‘Elizabethtown’, but he’s not like everyone else. So I don’t count him. I’m good at this if I know you.
Leonardo DiCaprio Will Play Rasputin for Warner Bros.!!!

Warner Bros. has just bought the movie projected titled ‘Rasputin‘, based on the Russian mystic, which was pitched by writer Jason Hall. Warner Bros. and Hall are developing this project for Leonardo DiCaprio and writing the screenplay with him in mind to play Grigori Rasputin, the healer and mystic who became an advisor to the Russian Imperial family known as the Romanovs. This project will be produced by DiCaprio’s company Appian Way as well as Langley Park.
Sad News: Comedy Central Cancels ‘Futurama’!!

Bad news, everyone. Comedy Central has decided not to renew ‘Futurama‘ and will have its last episode on September 4th. The final 13 episodes will start airing on June 19th and will be the 2nd half of the 7th season. This is unfortunate, as this Emmy winning series was amazing. Yes, it had seven seasons, but how many times has this been cancelled? I know there is a huge fanbase for the show and is smarter than 95% of what people watch currently. I just don’t get it.
Film Review: ‘The Place Beyond the Pines’!!!

Director Derek Cianfrance is one of the better filmmakers today. Even this being his third feature film, he has consistently shown that he has what it takes to make a powerful and character driven film each time so far. ‘The Place Beyond the Pines‘ is an intense look at the effects of certain actions passed on from father to son over the course of 15 years, and while this story packs a punch, it also fails to be told in the smoothest way as each act of the film is a different time with a different lead that changes direction too suddenly to keep a lucid flow. However, this indie film might garner enough attention and box office success from its cast, which consists of Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper.

Earlier this morning, Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the Oscar nominations, which MacFarlane came across as pretty funny. I’m excited for him to host the Oscars this year. And, his film ‘Ted‘ actually got nominated. How cool is that? Below is the full list of Oscar nominations. Let us know what you think. Film Review: ‘Gangster Squad’!!

‘Gangster Squad‘ lacks depth, character, and mild storytelling, but with its amazing cast of actors, over-the-top violence, and cartoony vibe, I left the theater highly entertained. Instead of playing out like a true noir gangster film from the 40s, director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) has gone the route of making this gangster film like and R rated ‘Dick Tracy‘ mixed with a Saturday morning cartoon, which isn’t necessarily bad, but instead of getting story and character, we get blood and guts.
‘Angry Birds’ Coming to Theaters in 2016!!!

I have never once played ‘Angry Birds‘. So, I’m not up to speed on the whole storyline or even gameplay. I do know that it is one of the most popular game apps though. And it was only a matter of time before it was developed into a major motion picture. The game has been available for three years now and John Cohen (‘Despicable Me‘) will produce a 3D CG animated feature film of ‘Angry Birds‘ for summer of 2016. Rovio Entertainment announced that David Masiel (‘Iron Man‘) will executive produce.
G4 Cancels ‘Attack of the Show’ and ‘X-Play’!!!

The G4 network has just announced that it has cancelled their two longest and biggest shows, ‘Attack of the Show’ and ‘X-Play’. These shows have made almost 3000 episodes to date and will not longer be airing new ones after the end of the year. These shows have launched a few people’s careers including Olivia Minn and Chris Hardwick. This is sad news. I loved these shows, as they were my goto channel for all things tech and games. Bryan Reviews ‘Men In Black 3’!!!

I was very apprehensive about seeing the third installment of ‘Men In Black’. I really loved the first film back in 1997. I was sixteen at the time and remembered how much fun the original film was and what magical characters and comedy it brought audiences worldwide. Then came the second installment of Men In Black in 2002 which was dull, boring, dialed in, and lacked any real good memories or fun. I thought that the franchise was done. That is until I saw ‘Men In Black 3’. ‘Men In Black 3’ easily makes us remember what we loved about the original film and brings back those elements and even improves on them. I can see future ‘Men In Black’ films in the future if they keep this good work up.

Ruben Fleischer’s ‘Gangster Squad’ looks amazing. Fleischer directed ‘Zombieland’ and ’30 Minutes or Less’. ‘Gangster Squad’ is a chronicle of the LAPD’s fight to keep East Coast Mafia types out of Los Angeles in the 1940s and 50s. The film stars; Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte, Robert Patrick, Michael Peña, Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Sean Penn.

Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman jus signed an exclusive two year deal with Universal where they are set to produce a few films for the studio. Orci and Kurtzman were the screenwriters for J.J. Abrams’ ‘Star Trek’ reboot back in 2009. According to a press release that came out today, Orci and Kurtzman are rebooting ‘The Mummy’ franchise (as we previously reported), and a Van Helsing reboot starring Tom Cruise. Press release below.

The Season Finale of HBO’s ‘Luck’ airs at the end of March, but don’t fret, for HBO has already renewed ‘Luck’ for a second season due to very high ratings. It’s great to see Dustin Hoffman on HBO. I think his character Ace, is brilliant. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him nominated for some awards in upcoming future awards shows.

I won’t be surprised to see in the coming weeks Disney and other film companies releasing their titles again in the 3D format. It seems like Nick Nolte is getting tons of roles these days. Glad to see his career is picking back up again. He is set to star in ‘Gangster Squad’ directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, 30 Minutes Or Less). “Nolte will play Bill Parker, the new chief of police in Los Angeles, and the first in a awhile who hasn’t been corrupted by Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). The chief, a Purple Heart recipient at Normandy, is the one who starts the Gangster Squad, a crack team designed to bring down organized crime. Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, Mireille Enos and Anthony Mackie star.”

The Rock is Finally a BADASS Again…
As it pleases me to say, that THE ROCK has taken a break from his family entertainment films to give us fans a hardcore movie that he should be in. I am a huge fan of THE ROCK, and I will pretty much see anything he is in. Even the family friendly films.
Now we get a move with him called “Faster”.
