THE TRAITOR – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2020

“The Traitor is a great addition to the gangster genre.”

There’s a treasure trove of gangster-themed movies and television shows out there at the moment, from the Oscar-nominated film The Irishman by Martin Scorsese to Peaky Blinders on Netflix with dozens of mafia documentaries in between to fill in the gaps. Marco Bellocchio’s The Traitor fits in nicely into this genre and can even stand on its own with its unique way of storytelling that centers on the real-life criminals who were finally put in prison after one of the mob bosses informed the authorities about his rival’s business.

Dolittle – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 15th, 2020

“Dolittle is a fine two-hour escape for January.”

Fresh off of sacrificing himself to save the universe in Avengers: Endgame, Robert Downey Jr. graces our cinemas with his latest movie ‘Dolittle‘ this weekend. Clearly feeling the goodwill from Iron Man, RDJ decides to employ the strangest accent for his new hero. Dolittle is a perfectly passable family movie in the dumping ground of January movies. It is PG, it is short, and it has a few amusing moments to keep the family entertained on a cold weekend.

Dan Moran’s Favorite Films of 2019!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 2nd, 2020

Dan Moran’s Favorite Movies This Year (in no order):

WAVES

This is one of the most powerful movie experiences I had this year. An amazing cast anchored by two young newcomers in Taylor Russell & Kelvin Harrison showcase a whirlwind of emotion as a family in Florida deals with unspeakable tragedies and how they cope moving forward.

Dan’s Ten Favorite Movies of the Decade!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 16th, 2019

Ten years! Ten whole stinkin’ years of wonderful movies to choose from and this list took me forever to settle on! It has been a great decade of movies across the board and narrowing this list to ten was painful. I have to be clear and say that these are MY 10 FAVORITES, not the best, not the most entertaining, not the most groundbreaking. These are Dan Moran’s 10 FAVORITES. Your list may differ and that is awesome because we all have different opinions! Enjoy my list.

IT CHAPTER 2 – 4K UHD Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 11th, 2019

THE FILM

The second and final chapter of ‘IT‘ brings the adult renderings of Stephen King’s kid heroes to the forefront some 27 years later in ‘IT: Chapter 2‘, that stars Bill Hader, Jessica Chastain, and James McAvoy. This sequel runs in at three hours alone, making the two films over five hours long. Director Andy Muschietti has even said there is a 6.5-hour super-cut of the movie, which leads me to ask why this wasn’t released on a streaming format, due to its episodic nature and extensive time run. Still, this second chapter is entertaining enough but suffers from major flaws in pacing, redundancy, and trying to over-complicate things.

LITTLE WOMEN (2019) – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 28th, 2019

One hundred and fifty years may have passed since Louisa May Alcott’s autobiographical enchanter Little Women was written, but it continues to remain relevant through countless retellings on screen and on stage. In total, three adaptations of this coming-of-age drama have been filmed, yet none quite captured the sentimentality and sensibility of the novel like Gillian Armstrong’s Little Women (1994) —until now. With a rich trajectory of colors, lavish production designs and a skilled cast of personalities, Greta Gerwig’sLittle Women’ is a delightful awakening of an American classic.

Movie Quotes

[Captain Typho is trying to talk Padme out of leaving Coruscant without protection]
Captain Typho:
My Lady, let me come with you.
Padmé:
There is no danger. The fighting is over, and... this is personal.
[Typho bows]
Captain Typho:
As you wish, My Lady... but I strongly disagree.
Padmé:
I'll be all right, Captain. This is something I must do myself. Besides, Threepio will look after me.
C-3PO:
Oh, dear.
[Typho leaves; Padme and C-3PO board the Naboo skiff; Obi-Wan sneaks on board]
