Blu-ray Review: Free Fire!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Film Portion Reviewed by Janet White:
In typical 70s film fashion, Free Fire opens with an aerial scan of the city below. Curvaceous, bold letters displayed nearly every cast member and some of the crew. This got very old, long, and kept the pace slow. Two men waiting in an alley… (Sounds like a bad joke, it was). Stevo (Sam Riley) and Bernie (Enzo Cilenti) meet up with Justine (Brie Larson), Chris (Cillian Murphy), and Frances (Michael Smiley) for a shady gun buy with Ord (Armie Hammer), Vernon (Sharlto Copley), Martin (Babou Ceesay), Gordon (Noah Taylor), and Harry (Jack Reynor, how did they turn this hottie into a slob?). Great cast, right? Well, great casts alone do not a great film make. The dialogue and plot points must harness and ride with that talent.

Film Review: ‘[Free Fire]’!!
Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…
In typical 70s film fashion, Free Fire opens with an aerial scan of the city below. Curvaceous, bold letters displayed nearly every cast member and some of the crew. Great cast, right? Well, great casts alone do not a great film make. The dialogue and plot points must harness and ride with that talent. Inundated with morons and piss-poor shooting for a calamitous combination, Free Fire leaves the audience either shaking their heads or bowing over laughing. Between the mumbling of lines and poor volume control, I missed bits of the dialogue for sure. It is as if they were aiming to repeat what Tarantino did with Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs, but they were not clever enough. Complete with wondrous never-ending bullet supplies and a villain’s miraculous ability to stave off death repeatedly aka “movie magic,” Free Fire simply does not make much sense. Could a person, shot in their right arm, fire a weapon (even automatic rifles) with their right hand? Read the rest of this entry »
4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
This portion of the review was written by Suzanne Loranc.
Everyone can understand that the second movie in any series can be the problematic middle child of a franchise. They tend to suffer between the spellbinding beginning and the satisfying conclusion. However, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire rises above the usual awkward bridge label with excellent performances and a script that remains faithful to the book to make it a movie that could almost stand on its own.
‘The Possibility Of Fireflies’ Lands Joey King & Courtney Love For Movie Adaptation!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
‘The Possibility Of Fireflies‘ is a novel by Dominique Paul published in 2006 and is, at it’s heart a coming of age story. Taking place during the summer of 1989 in suburban Maryland. It follows Ellie Roma (Joey King) – a precocious teenager with dreams of becoming a writer – who must cope with her chaotic, self destructive mother Susanna (Courtney Love) and a volatile metal-head sister, Gwen. When Ellie falls in love with her older neighbor, aspiring singer Leo, she finds herself caught in the alluring undertow of a reckless rock n’ roll freedom, and must make a decision that will change her life for ever.
Galifianakis Steps Down From ‘Freeheld’ Making Way for Carell To Step In!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
In a not unusual move, scheduling conflicts have cropped up on the set for ‘Freeheld‘. Zach Galifianakis was originally on tap to play the male lead in the film based on a documentary about domestic partner benefits. The furry, funny man had to step down due to other commitments, making way for Steve Carell to step into the vacated position. The docu followed the story of Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree as the pair fought to amend the Domestic Partnership Act, which would grant pension benefits to domestic partners of all New Jersey public employees. Ellen Page and Julianne Moore are under contract to play the couple.

‘Class of 1999’ is getting the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray treatment!
I’m so psyched for ‘Class of 1999‘ on Blu-ray from Vestron Video. This sci-fi thriller was part of my video collection when I was younger and I watched it all the time. Basically, this is about a high-school that puts in robotic teachers to keep the peace in school, but it turns into a real ‘Westworld‘ type of situation when the robot teachers start killing students. It’s then up to the kids to fight back. It stars Pam Grier, Stacy Keach, and Malcolm McDowell, which it doesn’t get cooler than that. There are new commentaries and interviews for bonus features. The Blu-ray will be released on January 30th, 2018 in a limited edition and I can’t be more excited about this if I tried to be.
Look What’s coming to Blu-ray from Arrow in September!

’10 to Midnight’ – Blu-ray Review!
Get your B-Movie nudity excitement ready, because the 1983 horror film ‘10 to Midnight‘ is back with an all new 4K transfer on Scream Factory Blu-ray glory. J. Lee Thompson (Cape Fear) directed this film with a script from William Roberts (The Magnificent Seven) about a serial killer who kills naked women. Well that’s how it sounds on paper, but there’s more to this story, along with a cast of Charles Bronson, a young Kelly Preston, Ola Ray from the Michael Jackson Thriller video, and the diabeetus man himself Wilford Brimley as a police captain. I mean, it doesn’t get any better than that does it?

Fantastic Fest 2018 First Wave of Motion Pictures Announced!
Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.
The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.
Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

Spheeris is most known for directing ‘Wayne’s World‘ and the amazing documentary ‘The Decline of Western Civilization‘. Below is all the information you will need, along with some links to purchase tickets and passes.
Film Review: ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’!
Disney is on a roll these days with their recent ‘Star Wars‘ franchise. Not only do we have the new Episodes, but we are getting spin-off movies that focus on a singular story from the past or a certain character. One character that we all have loved from the original trilogy, but don’t know a great deal about is Han Solo. Sure, we know he was a smuggler, is an anti-hero, loved the princess, and helped save the Galaxy with his wookie partner Chewbacca, as they flew from planet to planet on the iconic Millennium Falcon. Through the original trilogy, we heard small lines of dialogue that gave us the tiniest glimpse at his background and life before he met Obi-Wan and Luke. Fortunately, we now have ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘ to answer all of those questions for us.
4K UHD Review: ‘The Commuter’!
THE FILM
(This film portion was written by Fernando Martinez)
SOMEONE PLEASE STOP TAKING LIAM NEESON’S FAMILY!!! Ok, so maybe ‘The Commuter‘ isn’t so much about having his family ‘Taken’, but they get threatened to get taken, and that’s close enough.
So “The Commuter” is here simply to prove that Liam Neeson is still an action hero, and to be fair, he is probably our best action hero. At age 65, he’s doing stuff that Tom Cruise wishes he could have done in his 30’s. Actually, this felt like a role that was written for Tom Cruise until someone realized that Tom Cruise is box office poison but everyone loves Liam Neeson probably because of Love Actually.
4K UHD Review: ‘Wonder’!
THE FILM
Back in 2012, author R.J. Palacio released her novel ‘Wonder‘, which caught on worldwide quickly and became one of the most heartfelt and dare I say it “wonderful” stories of recent memory. It was only a matter of time before it was optioned into a movie. Luckily Lionsgate picked it up where author/director Stephen Chbosky (Perks of Being a Wallflower) signed on to take on the task in adapting this fantastic story for the big screen. ‘Wonder‘ follows a young boy named Auggie (Jacob Tremblay) who was born with Treacher Collins syndrome, which is a genetic disorder that causes facial disfiguration at birth, which can cause problems with hearing, eyesight, and breathing.
Disney Releases ‘Lady and The Tramp’ From the Pound…Er…Vault In February!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
Disney is cranking open the vault with a selection from the Walt Disney Signature Collection. ‘Lady and the Tramp‘ will be widely released onto Digital and Blu-ray in February. If you want to add the blu-ray to your collection, it will become available on February 27, and the digital copy becomes available a week before that on February 20.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Geostorm’!
THE FILM
Natural disaster films will always have a special place in my heart. Most of the time, they are over-the-top, ridiculous, and never make a lick of sense. Still, there is something entertaining in watching giant cities fall due to an alien invasion, a giant lizard, or is with the case of ‘Geostorm‘, extreme weather. No matter what the premise, these films usually have the same intentions and plot structure, which usually involves one hero guy to save the day, millions of casualties, hilarious one-liners, and enough insane plot tangents that would cause you to have a headache.
4K UHD Review: ‘Blade Runner 2049’!
THE FILM
(Portions of this “film” review are written by Dan Moran)
Sequels should never be this good. Blade Runner 2049 is Blade Runner adjacent. It is packed with so many themes and things to discover on repeat viewings. The connection to the original is blatantly there but this movie pushes so far beyond the original and expands the World.
Ethan Hawke has ’24 Hours To Live’ on Blu-ray!
Why did this movie not get a major theatrical release? I have no idea. This movie called ‘24 Hours To Live‘ stars Ethan Hawk and produced by the guys who helped make ‘John Wick‘. I mean, this has gold written all over it. Not sure what bonus features will be available, but there is none listed at the moment. Let’s hope that changes. You can currently see the film On Demand, but the Blu-ray will be available on February 6th.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7!
THE FILM
‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 is the best season yet of one of the best television series ever made. In this season, all that we have been waiting for is coming to fruition, since this is basically the 1st part of the last season of the show on HBO. All of the big battles are coming together, characters are finally in the same room now, and those dragons are finally able to do what they were meant to do. It’s so much fun to watch.
Film Review: ‘Fear Us Women’!
ISIS has quickly become a hot topic in politics and the new organization of terror to defeat in the Middle East. Their ruthless genocide and enslavement of women has sparked major concern around the world, and many exasperated civilians are giving up their lives to answer the call of duty. Taking us right into the desert trenches of Northern Syria, the new documentary ‘Fear Us Women‘ showcases Hanna Bohman, a Canadian who recently reevaluated her life and volunteered to aid in a revolution of women’s rights. In just under thirty minutes, Director David Darg has gracefully shot an enlightening chronicle of sacrifice and bravery. He shows us that women can be fierce and, above all else, fearless.
The ‘Christopher Nolan 4K Collection’ is coming December 19th!
If you’re like me, then you have grown to love filmmaker Christopher Nolan over the years. Come December 19th, most of his films will be released on 4K UHD for the first time ever. The films include the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘, ‘Inception‘, ‘The Prestige‘, ‘Interstellar‘, and the recent ‘Dunkirk‘. Each film will come with HDR as well, meaning a richer and deeper looking image for each movie. Each film will feature extras, the standard Blu-ray Disc, and Digital Copies of each movie. The whole collection will retail at about $150 with the ‘Dark Knight Trilogy‘ retailing at around $70. Of course with the holidays coming up, expect big discounts everywhere for these.
Rob Zombie Heads Back to ‘The Devil’s Rejects’!
Rob Zombie looks to be headed back to his roots by making yet another ‘Devil’s Rejects‘ movie. There are many people reporting about it and it seems has confirmed that his next film after his Groucho Marx movie ‘Raised Eyebrows‘, which I can’t confirm if he’s been filming that for the past few months or not. Zombie though will make another movie in that ‘Devil’s Rejects‘ universe, but it’s still unclear if it will be a sequel or a prequel to that infamous Firefly family.
15th Annual Tallgrass Film Festival Lineup!!!

The weekend boasts the inaugural presentation of the L.M. “Kit” Carson Storyteller Award to Larry Gross (‘48 Hours‘), and Ad Astra Award presentation to Rose McGowan (‘Charmed‘). Among the throng of films (182!!!) the fest has to offer, there are gala events, after-parties, and enough events to keep anyone, from the most green of festival-goers to the most seasoned pros that binge-watch for a living, entertained, interested, and hell, even relaxed. One of the ticket packages includes a massage.
The festival has given us a complete lineup of films for their 2017 event and since I’m such a nice person it’s my job, I’m giving it to you.
4K UHD Reivew: Kong: Skull Island!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
THE FILM
We’ve seen a ton of versions of ‘King Kong‘ over the decades from the 1933 version to the Jeff Bridges version in the 1970s, and even more recently, the 2005 version that was directed by ‘Lord of the Rings‘ director Peter Jackson. ‘King Kong‘ has been a staple in entertainment and pop culture since he debuted in the early 30s and he is showing no signs of stopping, thanks to Warner Bros.and Legendary Pictures who are taking their cues from Marvel and creating their own universe called the ‘MonsterVerse‘.
Blu-ray Review: Fist Fight
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
Before I get into this, I need to say that I’m a huge fan of Charlie Day and Ice Cube. They have a lot of talent that spans different genres and keep delivering on each film they make. That’s not the case with Fist Fight though, which I must say is NOT their fault. Ice Cube is great in his role as Mr. Strickland, a high-school history teacher who is not above of cursing in class or taking an axe to a student’s desk with a room full of students. On the other hand is Charlie Day playing the straight and narrow guy who hates confrontation named Andy Campbell who seems to be the world’s coolest English teacher, but is lost in this movie.
4K UHD Review: 3:10 to Yuma!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
Filmmaker James Mangold has certainly made a name for himself in the Western genre of cinema with the likes of 3:10 To Yuma and more recently Logan. The guy knows how to tell a thrilling story set in the old west as we’ve seen before. Prior to this 2007 version of the film, author Elmore Leonard (Jackie Brown, Get Shorty), wrote a short story, which was adapted into a 1957 film called 3:10 To Yuma. Mangold thought it would serve as a great remake in these modern times and he wasn’t wrong, while he added a few new story conflicts to this great 2007 version.
Blu-ray Review: ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here….
THE FILM
Since the release of ‘The Force Awakens‘, Disney will be releasing a ‘Star Wars‘ film every year for the foreseeable future. Well, it’s been a year since ‘The Force Awakens‘, which means it’s time for another ‘Star Wars‘ film, and luckily for us, we get ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘. I’m so glad that Disney is allowing up and coming, young filmmakers a chance to have a go at ‘Star Wars‘, because director Gareth Edwards (‘Monsters‘ and ‘Godzilla‘) has knocked it out of the park, even though there were some re-shoots with writer Tony Gilroy (‘Michael Clayton‘ and ‘The Bourne‘ films). This is the ‘Star Wars‘ film we have wanted for a long time, in that we get to see some characters do some truly amazing and badass things that we’ve never seen before, and a return to some of those classic set pieces and ships.
Blu-ray Announcement and Pre-Order: ‘Moana’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
Official Release: Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Moana,” the sweeping story of a spirited teenager who sets sail on a daring adventure to save her people, starring newcomer Auli‘i Cravalho as the voice of brave and tenacious Moana and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (HBO’s “Ballers,” “Central Intelligence”) as the larger-than-life demigod Maui, has dazzled both critics and audiences. The film earned a 95% critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes and the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office opening weekend. Now, “Moana” sets a new course, arriving to homes on Digital HD/3D and Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) on Feb. 21, and on Blu-ray 3D™, Blu-ray, DVD and On-Demand on March 7.
Blu-ray Announcement and Pre-Order: ‘Teen Titans: The Judas Contract’!

Animation and DC Entertainment bring one of the most momentous Teen Titans plot-lines in comics history to animated life with the all-new, feature-length film Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. 4K UHD Review: ‘The Town’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
This Film Review Portion was written by Steve Long: Say what you will about Ben Affleck. I like the guy. His previous film, “Gone Baby Gone” was actually really great as it was his first film he directed. “The Town” is his second. I look forward to more films out of Ben Affleck. Perhaps a sequel to ‘Phantoms‘?? I kid.
4K UHD Review: ‘Suicide Squad’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
There seems to be a good movie hidden somewhere in ‘Suicide Squad‘, but the film itself makes it nearly impossible for you to find where those good moments are. The film is its own worst enemy, because it promises something new and fresh in the first dozen or so minutes, but then nose dives into the mountain from there on out. This is certainly writer/director David Ayer’s most ambitious project and I can’t tell if it’s his mistake or the collection of DC/Warner Bros. executives who forced the notes on him to make this film not succeed, because again, the first part of the movie gathers your hopes up for something fun. Ayer wrote ‘Training Day‘ and ‘U-571‘, then transitioned into directing with ‘End of Watch‘ and ‘Fury‘, which were both new and fresh takes on tired genres. I was hoping that Ayer could breathe new life and put the DC Comic movie franchise on the right track, but alas, that is not the case.
4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
Here we are with the final ‘Hunger Games‘ movie again, ‘Mockingjay’ Part II. With splitting the final chapter into two separate films, you’d think there’d be something worth waiting for or at least a big climax. None of that is found here with Part II, despite what anyone else tells you. I understand why the studio wanted to split the final film into two parts, which would garner double the money and profits off of one story, but in order to have a decent story and film, you need it to go somewhere. In this case, anywhere.
4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
Things are not looking up for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in this third installment of Suzanne Collins‘ young adult book series ‘The Hunger Games‘. In an effort to squeeze as much money as they can, the movie studio decided to split the third and final book into two parts, much like the last two ‘Harry Potter‘ films and the recent trilogy of the single book of ‘The Hobbit‘. On one hand, the fans will get two movies. On the other hand, there will be a lot of filler between these two films to stretch them out to their two-hour run time.
4K UHD Review: ‘The Hunger Games’!
Hi everyone, Bryan here…
THE FILM
Have you read ‘Hunger Games’? Do you know what ‘Hunger Games’ is about? If not you’re in for a real treat. ‘Hunger Games’ is based on a trilogy of novels by Suzanne Collins. It’s geared towards young adults. The premise is a whole lot like ‘Battle Royale’ where a group of young kids or teenagers are picked in a lottery system to battle each other in a designated area until there is only one survivor.

Film Review: ‘Roseanne For President’!
Joel H., Here…
That laugh. That iconic friggin’ laugh. It’s been awhile. Maybe I’m out of touch with culture, which I don’t think I am, but I have not heard that laugh in so incredibly long. Immediately, I think back to my childhood and the interior of the Connor house, not too far off from my own at the time. The sound of that nasally chuckle takes me back like a song. (*Joel proceeds to smash a Smashmouth record*) Side note on being “taken back”, did anyone else grow up thinking the show “Dinosaurs” was a story-arch/dream-sequence within the Roseanne show? You know, the flannel shirts and all with John Goodman?

Film Review: ‘Hello, My Name is Doris’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
I didn’t know a whole lot about ‘Hello, my Name is Doris‘, other than that Sally Field was starring in the film as true genuine free spirit of sorts, but when the director’s name flashed on the screen in the opening credits, I knew immediately I was in for a real treat. That director is Michael Showalter, who you might remember from ‘Wet Hot American Summer‘, ‘Stella‘, or ‘The Baxter‘, which was his last big directorial feature film some eleven years ago. ‘Hello, My Name is Doris‘ walks a fine line between the comedy and dramatic realm, but Showalter’s screenplay and directorial effort walks the line quite well, mixing some genuine and silly comedy with some intense dramatic moments.

Film Review: ‘The Last Witch Hunter’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
Just in time for Halloween, comes the latest action-horror movie, starring Vin Diesel, called ‘The Last Witch Hunter‘. With a budget of $90 million, you’ll be puzzled to see where all that money went after watching this awkward and slow-paced movie. Director Breck Eisner tries to weave a horror movie with some action set pieces, but the dialogue and script is fair at best, and besides the first five minutes of the film and the last ten minutes, nothing really happens.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Escape From New York’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
THE FILM
John Carpenter’s ‘Escape From New York‘ came out in 1981. I was born in 1981. This is not a coincidence. Ever since my dad showed me ‘Escape From New York‘, I wanted to don an eye patch, stick it to authority, and save the human race, just like Plissken does, but I knew I’d never be as cool as Plissken ever was.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
THE FILM
We are at the end of this ‘Hobbit‘ trilogy with ‘The Battle of the Five Armies‘. The last three years seem to have gone by fairly fast. It seems like yesterday when I was writing about Warner Bros. heading back to Middle Earth with the ‘Hobbit‘. I was super stoked about it, because I was such a huge fan of the ‘Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy. I think I saw each of those films five times in the theater, owned each version that came out on DVD and Blu-ray, and went back to see them when they were re-released. I just can’t get enough of the ‘LOTR‘ films. But shortly after the announcement that we were receiving a ‘Hobbit‘ film, things started going downhill.

Angi S., Here….
It’s that time of year again. When we all gather round with those we care about and watch the special Christmas edition of WWE’s RAW from Minneapolis, Minnesota! Trees, lights and cheer paired with mayhem, chaos and insanity were the order of the evening. Like so many presents we have received in our life time, we saw things that made us go this is awesome, and others that made us go what the hell did I just witness? Either way, we were just grateful to spend the time with the superstars we loved and the ones we wished we really could not see. What fun was to be had and what was bad? Let’s rip into this shiny box of holiday spirit that is the December 22, 2014 RAW!

So let’s dive on into the night that World Wrestling Entertainment says THANK YOU to the exceptional men and women who are our heroes!
Film Review: ‘Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1’!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here…
Things are not looking up for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in this third installment of Suzanne Collins‘ young adult book series ‘The Hunger Games‘.
Alan Ritchson Panel Q&A From Wizard World Comic Con!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
This should be the last article I have to write about the epic event that was Wizard World Comic Con in Tulsa, Oklahoma this last weekend. The entire event was so energetic and exciting! Cosplayers far and wide showing off their hard work, time and lots of money in their creative costumes. For all the little posers that call yourselves geeks because you wear glasses or have gone to see some superhero movies, you’re an absolute disgrace to the title and we reach a level of unconsentatneous, that is to say “disagreement”. If you’re a geek, then I have no terminology for what some of these fans should be called, then. You might dress as Gandalf to go to a party, but I met a guy that made up his own wizard name and costume, complete with vine covered staff and stayed in costume ALL. DAMN. DAY. He’s in the food court holding his beard back while he eats nachos and the beautiful people walk by smirking while they wear some face paint, a character t-shirt and their underwear. How in the world can one dressed up person poke fun at another one? I’ll tell you how, because the smirking people are just posers.
Janet’s Film Review: ‘Nightcrawler’!!
Janet W., Here…
Nightcrawler opens with the moonshining down on the city of angels, we see a thief, Louis Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) in action. He is cutting away chain-linked fence when a security guard spots him. A bright light shines on the sunken face and wiry form of Bloom. (According to IMDB, Jake Gyllenhaal lost 20 lbs. for the role.) The rent-a-cop asks for ID, but Bloom repeatedly diverts his requests with distracting comments and questions. Bloom is a fast-talker. Cut to bargaining with a scrap metal yard foreman in an attempt to sell the copper wire and chain-linked fence Bloom had collected. The foreman doesn’t waive on his offer and resolve, but Bloom rapidly counters like a string of firecrackers pushing for better pay. The foreman refuses to give Bloom a penny more than his offer. What does Bloom do in response to this let down? He asks for a job. As plainly as he can, the foreman assures Bloom that he would never hire a thief. Scraping to make ends meet and living in squalor, Bloom is desperate for a fast track to success.
Sharlto Copley and Michelle Forbes Cast As Leads In PSN’s ‘Powers’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
At the end of last week, we brought you a story that featured some casting news for Sony Playstation Network’s first foray into the original programming world. You can read that story, here. Today, we have more casting info.
Sharlto Copley has been in back and forth negotiations to star in the series based on the graphic novel. Copley is an excellent actor and one of my favorite things about the ‘A-Team‘ movie in 2010. His turn as Murdock was so inspired and hilarious, I could watch him all day. I still make jokes about any food that tastes a little off as having been grilled by Murdock with his special sauce (antifreeze). Most recently he was seen in ‘Maleficent‘ as Stefan, there are two films in a post-production phase right now that are set to come out in 2015.
Robin Williams 1951-2014!!
Jana here,
This is a truly sad day. Robin Williams was found dead of an apparent suicide today. Williams was found dead in his Northern California home. The actor had been battling some pretty heavy depression lately and Williams had struggled with addiction earlier on in his career, but recently went to rehab to help maintain his sobriety, his rep said at the time. The rehab stint would have gone unnoticed, expect that the comedian opted to pose with a fan for a photo at a Dairy Queen near the facility, and the picture eventually went viral.
Top 10 List: The 10 Most American Movies!!
Paul N., Here…
It’s that time of year again. Time to celebrate the founding of this nation by eating excessively and purchasing enough fireworks to create man-sized craters in the pavement. In honor of this time, here’s a list of the most ‘Murican movies ever. This isn’t a list of patriotic movies (though some of these could be seen as patriotic), so you aren’t going to see Saving Private Ryan or other true patriotic movies on here. This list focuses on those things that make America into ‘Murica – extreme excess and over-the-top…well, everything! [Cue eagle screech]
Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Monkey’s Paw’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
THE FILM
‘The Monkey’s Paw‘ is a tale old as time. Back in 1902, author W.W. Jacobs wrote a short story about a family receiving a dried up monkey’s paw where it supposedly granted three wishes. Though each wish was granted, they caused dire consequences for those who used the monkey’s paw. Since 1902, there have been many interpretations and adaptations on Jacobs’s story. Whether it be films, musicals, operas, or even the famous ‘Simpsons‘ episode ‘Treehouse of Horror II‘, this story has been heard or seen by everyone at some point in time.
Film Review: ‘La Bare’!!
Black Mariah, Here….
Whatever I thought this movie was about, whatever stereotype I had in my head about male strip club dancers, whatever I thought went on at Dallas’s most infamous Male strip club……I was wrong. Dead wrong.
I was among a select audience with the privilege of screening a new film by Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike, True Blood) titled “La Bare”. I had seen Joe promoting the movie on various talk shows for the past few weeks, and was interested in the film already since it is about our hometown landmark, La Bare. I would like to preface this review with the fact that I have never been to La bare, but it does come with quite the reputation. As a burlesque dancer living in Dallas for the past 7 years, inner circles of cheeky entertainment often intertwine. I had heard tell of a fantastic strip club on the other side of town, with legendary male dancers sure to make any lady’s heart swoon. I had even met a few of the dancers in passing, and if they were any indicator of the men created in the image of the Golden Ratio dancing at La Bare, that is the one building in Dallas most likely to be filled with Greek God-like men.
DIFF: The 2014 Dallas International Film Festival Full Movie Lineup Announced!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
The Dallas International Film Festival for 2014 has just announced its full lineup of movies. Last week, we brought you the first ten films that were announced, and if that was any clue on how cool the movies will be this year, it only gets better. It looks like there are some amazing selections this year, films that I’ve been hearing about for quite some time, and am glad to have them in Dallas. Below you will find all the info you want to know about each movie, documentary, short, and cult film that will be showing. And don’t forget, you can purchase your tickets HERE for the festival!!
Film Review: ‘Pompeii’!!
Ben K., Here….
I love Pompeii. It’s a fascinating place where the past comes to life; where all one imagines of the Roman Empire is made tangible. It’s amazing to walk through ancient homes surrounded by frescoes, mosaics, restaurants, a bathhouse, a grand theater…and one need only look upward to see the cause of both Pompeii’s destruction and preservation. That vast, once fearsome volcano. Still, it is worth but a glance; the city and her ghosts will forever remain the focus of Pompeii. In his latest film, Paul W.S. Anderson gives us the opposite: a cursory glance at the people and the detailed wrath of top-billed Mount Vesuvius.
The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!
Jana B. here,
Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.
I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution. I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.
2014 Golden Globe Winners!!
Hi, Bryan Here…
I know I’m a bit late with this news, but this past Sunday, all of the stars and filmmakers gathered for a night of jokes, drinks, food, and of course – awards. The Golden Globe winners were announced Sunday live on television with hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett,’Breaking Bad’, and ’12 Years A Slave’ were some of the winners. Below is the list of every winner for your enjoyment.
Film Review: ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
And we’ve arrived in the 2nd year of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug‘, and let me tell you, it’s a big improvement on the last film, which was released the same time last year. First off, we don’t have to spend a half hour inside Bilbo’s home with thirteen dwarves eating, drinking, and singing songs about washing dishes and Bilbo’s unhappy attitude. In this sequel things start off fast and to the point, which is sure to excite all audiences. Still, adapting J.R.R Tolkien’s less than 300 page novel into three separate films might be a bit much, but damn if it isn’t fun and highly entertaining this time around with a giant fire breathing dragon, some epic battles, a familiar elf, and an escape from orcs that I could watch 100 times in a row and never tire of. Just like the previous films set in Middle Earth, I expect another billion dollars for Jackson and co.
And The Golden Globe Nominees Are….
Hi, Bryan Here….
Here are the nominees for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. Wow, there were a lot of snubs here. And how did ‘Rush‘ make the list for Best Picture? No way! And what about ‘The Way Way Back‘, ‘Mud‘, or ‘Short Term 12‘ not being nominated? For shame. Let me know what you think of this nominee list?

Aaron Taylor-Johnson Closes Deal to Play Quicksilver in Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’!!!
Jana B., Here….
Before, I get into the future project of Aaron Taylor-Johnson, a.k.a. Kick Ass, let me just take a moment to express how absolutely gorgeous this guy looks without the frizzy hair of his first appearance as the normal dude turned vigilante. I kind of slid my eyes past him because I could not see the hottie he had hidden. I just checked out a picture of him and was freaking gobsmacked at the boy looking back at me that will be filling my night time thoughts. Yummy. Now that I’ve stated the obvious but important point of his looks I can get on with his new project.
Film Review: ‘The Patience Stone’!!
Donna W., Here….
According to Persian mythology, there is a magical black stone that absorbs the plight of those who confide in it. When the stone is shattered, the confessors are free of their woes.

Hi, Bryan Here….
Christopher Nolan’s reimagining of the Batman franchise beginning with 2005’s Batman Begins enjoyed phenomenal critical and box-office success. Now on September 24, Nolan’s three Batman films – Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises – will be released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment as The Dark Knight Trilogy: Ultimate Collector’s Edition. The six-disc set will feature all three films with their existing extra content, two new featurettes and exclusive new collectible memorabilia. This must-own collection for fans of DC Comics’ Caped Crusader is available in premium packaging and will sell for around $100.00. I’m willing to bet it’s cheaper than that though at certain retail stores. ***ARTWORK IS NOT FINAL***
Film Review: ‘Oblivion’
Hi, Bryan Here….
It’s been a great couple of years for science fiction fans. The sci-fi genre has shown its big head again, and the masses have seem to be eating it all up. No matter what your opinion on a particular sci-fi film of recent, you can’t deny that the genre is back with a vengeance. Films like ‘Looper’ brought the future and time travel aspects to a great level of entertainment, whereas ‘Cloud Atlas’ made us think and at times confused us as to what was going on. None the less, it was a giant spectacle on screen, much of like we have seen many times before.
‘Walking Dead’ Season 3 Recap – Episode 15 ‘This Sorrowful Life’!!
Misty Here….
Good Afternoon ‘Walking Dead‘ fans. If you were like me and had not read the comic, then you walked away from last nights episode shocked and a little saddened. There’s a lot of information is this episode so let’s get to it. Outside of the prison, Rick and Hershel are telling Darryl about the deal with the Governor to trade Michonne for peace. Daryl ask if Rick is going to tell the others and he says he will after it’s over with. He asks Daryl to keep it quiet. The plan is to lure her away from the others and then ambush her.
‘Walking Dead’ Season 3 Recap – Episode 13 ‘Prey’!!
Misty Here….
Good Morning ‘Walking Dead‘ fanatics!!!! I know you were on the edge of your seat like I was last night so lets get to it. The show starts out with a flashback scene between Michonne and Andrea the previous winter. The camera starts with the chain that is holding Michonne’s armless and toothless walkers. They are in the woods and around a camp fire, warming up food. Andrea is warming up the food while Michonne is checking out the perimeter. They are chit chatting around the fire and Andrea brings up the fact that Michonne never told her where the walkers came from.

Gary Moore “Blues For Jimi” Blu-Ray (REVIEW)
Jonathon K. Here….
First off, you’re probably asking yourself “Who the $%@# is Gary Moore, and why is he playing Jimi Hendrix songs?!?” Sadly and admittedly, I had to ask myself the same thing. Until recently, I had never heard of Moore. As a rock n’ roll connoisseur, I should have been more familiar with a guitar bad ass such as he, but as I say time and time again…the music will find you when it’s supposed to.

2012 Emmy Award Winners!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners. I don’t see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything. They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’. The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again. However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’
