Hello, Jana here,

h0qn7y2r4ikrdkrf7ve4

A John Grisham novel is like a mug of coffee on a stormy day, a glass of wine after the kids are asleep, or even a Xanax when you want to rip someone’s head off. The point is, it’s a calming, reassuring presence. It’s going to be an intense, legal, thrill ride that has a feel-good ending. Grisham’s tried and true writing style is gripping, authentic and something that lends itself to film adaptation easily. This has been the case with ‘The Firm‘, ‘The Pelican Brief‘, ‘The Client‘ and ‘A Time to Kill‘ among several others. There is even a complete departure from his norm evident in ‘Christmas With The Kranks‘.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Neighbors1

In what I personally declared one of the absolute worst movies of 2014, ‘Neighbors‘ stars Seth Rogen and Zac Efron turned in some fairly uninspired performances. I generally like the two actors, especially Zac Efron in ‘The Paperboy‘, so I want to say it was the abysmal story line that limited their range. It wasn’t a huge laugher in my book, but still went on to become the highest grossing comedy of the 2014 year. I can only hope it’s because everyone wanted to laugh, maybe they did – maybe they didn’t, but that’s not a good enough reason to stop Universal Pictures from announcing a sequel.

20th Century Fox presents the first trailer for ‘The Greatest Showman‘, featuring stars Rebecca Ferguson, Zac Efron, Hugh Jackman, Michelle Williams, and Zendaya. It’s a biographical musical that I can’t wait to see. The film bows December 25, 2017.

Film Review: BAYWATCH!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 23rd, 2017

Dan M., here….

baywatccast

We need to get one thing straight as we start this review. Baywatch is not a movie to be judged on it’s plot. This movie exists in the same realm as Horrible Bosses, Spy, We’re The Millers, 21 Jump Street, & Neighbors. It has just enough plot so that it can get from joke to joke or gag to gag as efficiently as possible. It succeeds in this regard and has a really high “joke landing” percentage. More importantly, as a vehicle for unbelievably attractive people to let loose and be funny, Baywatch goes above and beyond. It is a showcase for these actors to show they’re really, really funny.

The Red Band Trailer to ‘Baywatch’ is So Satisfying!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 10th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-05-10 at 10.46.12 AM

Why make a Baywatch movie remake? Well, if you have Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, and Alexandra Daddario in it, you’re gonna have a good time and make some money. The TV show from the 80s and 90s was full of cheese, drama, and mild entertainment. It looks like this rated R remake is going the hardcore route with blood, big explosions, and tons of vulgar humor, which satisfies every hole on your body. I had no idea this film was turning out like this, but I’m now super excited to see this one. I have a feeling that my jaw will hurt from laughing and smiling so much from start to finish here.

We’ve Got The First Peek At ‘Baywatch’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 8th, 2016

From Seth Gordon, the director responsible for ‘Horrible Bosses‘ and ‘Identity Thief‘, comes ‘Baywatch‘, the big-screen incarnation of the small-screen hit that ran for 11 seasons. I’d be hard-pressed to give you a description of the series as it was basically just beautiful people, like Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff, running on the sand. I always thought it aired late at night, in syndication, as an *aid* to help teenage boys go to sleep.

Film Review: ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

mike-and-dave-need-wedding-dates

I think the vulgar wedding comedy has formed its own sub genre these days. With films like ‘Wedding Crashers‘, ‘Bridesmaids‘, ‘American Wedding‘, and ‘The Hangover‘, you have all the ingredients to make a modern audience laugh with toilet humor, vulgar language, sex, drugs, excessive amounts of alcohol, and a happy ending (pun very intended). The next on the list of this current sub-genre of wedding comedies is ‘Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates‘, which is actually based off a real life story of brothers Mike and Dave Stangle, who took to the internet to find dates for their sister’s wedding, offering a free trip. They went viral, got a ton of responses, went on national television, and had a book come out.

Of course we are getting a ‘Baywatch‘ reboot in the form of a big feature film, because why not. Actually, that film opens up one year from today and Paramount has released the first official cast photo of the film. You have Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Zac Efron, Alex Daddario, Jon Bass, Kelly Rohrbach, and Ilfenesh Hadera in the new case, and everyone looks great here.

Film Review: ‘Neighbors 2’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 18th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

0002-neighbors-2-ew_0

It’s rare when a comedy sequel works on all levels. With sequels, you’d hope the original cast comes back and there is a good balance of returning and new jokes and plot devices to make it stand on its own without doing the same recycled material as the original. With the case of ‘Neighbors‘, you had a pretty great cast with Seth Rogen, Rose Byrne, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, in an ‘R’ rated comedy about a couple with a newborn baby, trying to raise a family next to a frat house. It was a solid premise with a lot of funny moments. The small budget film of only $18 million went on to make over $270 million at the box office.

Hey guys, Jana here,

mike-dave-need-wedding-dates-movie-poster

Coming to theaters July 8 of this year is a scenario many of us have agonized over, needing a date to a wedding we can’t skip out on. Most of us rely on friends, or even try the dreaded blind-date approach, but not these two guys. Party-hard brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) go to an extreme to find the perfect date to take to the wedding, which just happens to involve a trip to Hawaii. They place an online ad to find girls their family will approve of. The girls (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) who win the position have a little secret their dates will soon learn, they are just looking for a trip to the islands and plan on partying harder than the brothers ever dreamed of.

Film Review: ‘Dirty Grandpa’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 21st, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

UDEP_D10_01854.CR2

January continues to roll in with the bad films as is usual for this time of year. It astonishes me that this screenplay was ever on the famed Hollywood blacklist. Perhaps some of it might have been funny on paper, but it never translated well into film, even with the star power of Robert De Niro as you’ve never seen him like this before. You won’t be surprised to see that the director of the film is a guy named Dan Mazer, who was the creative right-hand man to Sacha Baron Cohen since ‘The Ali G Show‘.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

Film Review: ‘Neighbors’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 8th, 2014

Black Mariah Here…

Neighbors-Movie-Still-1

Let me start off this review by saying comedy movies have gone straight downhill in the past 10 years. I don’t know what demographic survey told movie studios that we wanted our comedies with a side of moral lesson, but this girl, for one, HATES my comedies anywhere near a moral lesson (I’m looking at you ‘Bridesmaids‘).  I truly miss the golden era of Adam Sandler films and comedy recordings. Sometimes settling into a good dick and fart joke film is just what you need. Don’t think about the humor, it’s just funny!

John Cusack Enters the Wall Street World!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 29th, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

John Cusack with a serious expression wearing a suit and tie

When you set a series in the world of Wall Street, you need characters colorful enough to not get lost in the atmosphere. Take ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘, for example, Leonardo DiCaprio’s portrayal of Jordan Belfort was larger than life. He had to be outrageous to stand out in the fast-paced, high-stakes land of the almighty dollar. Christian Bale’s version of Patrick Bateman from ‘American Psycho‘ stands out just as much. Granted, these personalities are not what you would assume to be the norm for traders working on Wall Street, but the ambience definitely fosters these type of personalities.

Film Review: ‘That Awkward Moment’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

9d0fd19d-3d90-4482-b3e8-3a472c4d4da5_thatawkwardmoment

I really wanted to like ‘That Awkward Moment‘, but I never found myself enjoying the film, other than the sporadic chuckles that came once every twenty minutes. And even then, it wasn’t a gut-busting laugh. One of the producers of ‘Movie 43‘, Tom Gormican, wrote and directed this movie. Let it also be known that this is also his only movie credit other than ‘Movie 43‘, which is obvious after you watch ‘That Awkward Moment‘. This twenty-something romantic comedy tries to hard to be a Judd Apatow film, but lacks just about everything good from an Apatow movie. It’s a clumsy flick that is cliched at every corner with poor editing, a terrible script, and some mis-cast actors. I’m sure this raunchy rom-com will make a decent amount of money, but will be instantly forgotten.

Film Review: ‘Parkland’

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

parkland-paul-giamatti

I currently reside in Dallas, TX. Whenever a friend or family member come to visit, one of the things on their list to see is the 6th Floor book depository, which is now a museum, and where exactly the former US president Kennedy was assassinated. There is actually an “X” in the middle of the road painted on the asphalt where the bullet went through. You can still stand on the grassy knoll and picture in your mind the events of that horrible day. There have been countless movies and tv shows since his death that have documented or told a narrative story on what happened, but nothing has been shown like Peter Landesman’s ‘Parkland‘ before.

Suzanne’s Review of ‘Liberal Arts’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 28th, 2012

Suzanne Here….

As we age, we mature…and sometimes we mature in different ways at different times. This is not a new concept, but in Josh Radnor’s Liberal Arts, we see a group of characters facing different periods of growth and adversity. The film may not reach new depths of introspection and understanding of the human condition, but it is one that many can enjoy simply for the recognition of ourselves in the characters.

Bryan Reviews ‘Liberal Arts’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 14th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Josh Radnor’s ‘Liberal Arts’ is nothing short of amazing and was a perfect film to open up the 2012 Dallas International Film Festival.  Most of you might know Radnor from the hit television series ‘How I Met Your Mother,’ where he plays the hopelessly romantic lead character.  But with ‘Liberal Arts’, Radnor throws out the laugh-track-style comedy and give you one of the smartest and most genuine performances of the past few years.  I have no doubt that audiences will fall in love with the incredible cast, witty dialogue, and light-hearted yet heart-felt story.
