Dan M., Here….

fast-and-furious-04252011

I saw The Fast and The Furious when I was 14 or 15. As someone who grew up watching Point Break on VHS and other 80s/90s action movies it was right in my wheel house. I have never been a car guy but I still remember that summer talking with my friends about Honda Civics, Nos, and spoilers that we’d all be getting when we turned 16. The first movie is a step by step remake of Point Break, right down to letting the “bad guy” go at the end with “I owe you a 10 second car” instead of “Vaya Con Dios.” It stared two relatively unknowns in Paul Walker and Vin Diesel who will never be confused with Daniel Day Lewis but were born to play these parts. Ultimately was a fun summer popcorn movie that no one thought they’d hear from again, let alone turn into an almost 4 billion dollar franchise.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

I recently had the pleasure to sit down with actress Hailee Steinfeld to discuss her latest film ‘Edge of Seventeen‘, which is a coming of age movie that is being compared to the best of John Hughes‘ movies. Currently, the film has a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, so be sure to catch this movie in theaters this weekend. Prior to this, Hailee starred in the Coen Bros. remake of ‘True Grit‘ with Jeff Bridges, ‘Ender’s Game‘, and ‘Pitch Perfect 2‘ amongst several others. We talked about working with the stellar cast of ‘Edge of Seventeen‘, some High School memories, and her favorite scenes from film. Don’t forget to check out her music too HERE.

Criterion Blu-ray Review: ‘Dekalog’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 2nd, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

81tals1xsl-_sl1500_

THE FILM

It’s very rare that a film has such a profound effect on you that you can’t get it out of your head for days. I love discussing all movies, from the latest indie art-house film to the latest blood and guts horror fest to the animated comedies of Pixar, and even old classics from the 1930s and forward. Rarely though, does a film leave me thinking about it for days on end and make me contemplate life and myself and the decisions I have made that had me end up right here. One of those films was Claude Lanzmann’s ‘Shoah’, which put me on an emotional downward spiral for a while. It made me look at myself, us as a people, history, and what makes us tick. It’s a film that deserves its own category and awards, because there is nothing else like it and there never will be.

‘Green Room’ Blu-ray Announced and Detailed!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 3rd, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

91LSukBM25L._SL1500_

Green Room‘ was my favorite film from 2015’s ‘Fantastic Fest‘. You don’t get much better than Patrick Stewart as a bad neo-nazi, trying to kill a punk rock band. Not only that, you have the ‘Blue Ruin‘ guys Jeremy Saulnier and Macon Blair on top of this film as well. It’s in theaters now, and I highly recommend you go and see it. Lionsgate has just announced the Blu-ray too, which will release on July 12th with some cool extras. Below is the information.

‘X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST’ – AN EDITORIAL!!

by Justin Cline on Jun 3rd, 2014

Justin C. here…

X-Men-Days-of-Future-Past-Movie-Poster

This is not a review; this is a plea.

As of this posting, the Rotten Tomatoes score for X-Men: Days of Future Past is holding strong at 92%. And while it would seem that a score that high indicates the filmmakers got nearly everything right—in as much as anyone ever can—, I’d like to offer up a few suggestions for the next film, tentatively titled X-Men: Apocalypse.

Here they are, in no particular order: Read the rest of this entry »

DIFF 2014 Film Review: ‘Child’s Pose’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 5th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

 01

Calin Peter Netzer’s very somber film ‘Child’s Pose‘ is a dark character study of the relationship between a mother/wife and her family. I’m sure we all know someone in our family who tries to control every little detail in everyone’s lives, and will go to the end of the world to find out the smallest details on their loved ones. At times, this can come across as comical, but most of the time it comes across as an annoyance, which can scar any relationship, even though the ‘patriarch’ of the family has good intentions.

Hi Bryan Here….

With the huge success of this past weekend’s ‘The Devil Inside’, Warner Bros. has set up William Brent Bell with another similar gig.  Bell co-wrote and directed ‘The Devil Inside’ and will now helm the conspiracy thriller, ‘The Vatican’.  ‘The Vatican’ will be produced by Roy Lee, Lawrence Grey and John Middleton, and Bell’s producing partner Matt Peterman. Peterman wrote ‘The Devil Inside’ with Bell.  The script will be written by first timer David Cohen.

Hi Bryan Here….

Evil Dead 2.  Possibly one of the greatest films ever made.  It has a 98% Fresh rating on rotten tomatoes.  This sequel to the Sam Raimi horror gore fest, is pretty much a re-telling of the first film with a bigger budget and an added humor in the vein of Three Stooges.  This humor and horror mix nicely to bring you one of the best thrill rides of your life.  And let me just say, it seems that they went back to the original negatice of the film and cleaned it all up for this release.  It looks AMAZING.  The best it has ever looked.  This gets my highest recommendation.  Get it.

Movie Quotes

Warden:
Alcatraz is a maximum security prison with very few privileges. We don't make good citizens, but we make good prisoners. Burglary, armed robbery, grand larceny... You've escaped from quite a few prisons, haven't you? [Frank and Warden look at each other] That's why you're here. Alcatraz was built to keep all the rotten eggs in one basket, and I was specially chosen to ensure that the stink from the basket does not escape. Since I've been warden a few people tried to escape. Most of them have been recaptured. Those that haven't have been killed or drowned in the bay. No one has ever escaped from Alcatraz.
