ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP – Film Review #2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 17th, 2019

Let’s face it — we’re in a full-fledged era of sequels, reboots, and remakes. Why would studios invest in original material when they can continue the cash wave of nostalgia? It’s been a decade since the wickedly funny and critically successful ‘Zombieland’ (2009) hit theaters, and all of the survivors are back to work on their cardio in ‘Zombieland: Double Tap’, including director Ruben Fleischer. Some new characters and settings have been thrown in to revive the storyline, but regrettably, all roads lead to redundancy. ‘Double Tap’ is mostly enjoyable and operates with the same humor as the original, but this follow-up can’t quite match the fresh, gleeful nerdiness and thrilling escapades of the first.

The big summer blockbuster is almost here. I’m not talking about Tom Cruise jumping from building to building either. I’m talking about WWE’s 31st annual SummerSlam PPV of entertainment and pro-wrestling, which is set to take place on August 19th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn New York and can be watched live in HD on the WWE Network for $9.99 a month or for free if you’re a new subscriber. Over the next few days, our writer Angi and I will be conjuring up some entertaining pieces about each match at SummerSlam 2018. We’ll cover each WWE Superstar, the background of the match, the odds of winning, and what to look out for in each match.

Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.

The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.

Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

Film Review: ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 19th, 2017

Written by: Audrey Evans

If asked to refer back to their fondest memories, most adults would likely gloat about experiences from their youth. And honestly, what individual hasn’t reminisced about days of innocence and longed for that childhood comfort of a bedtime story? In ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin,’ we’re given a glimpse into the life and inspiration behind Author A.A. Milne’s book Winnie-the-Pooh – a children’s classic that is collectively referred to as the most cherished of all time. Though true life stories are often challenging to represent, Director Simon Curtis uses his aptitude for history to create an authentic bio-drama that dodges the sentimental distaste of many, and also explores the paramount effects of childhood celebrity and war.

Film Review: ‘American Made’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2017

Audrey E., here….

Cocaine is a hell of a drug. Globally, it is the second most popular and in the ’80’s, it was king. And Director Doug Liman wants you to know that one American is partly responsible for not only the narcotic’s rise in popularity, but also for fueling one of the largest cartels in global history. In the new action biopic, ‘American Made‘, Tom Cruise flies high and returns to familiar aviation territory as Barry Seal, a TSA pilot turned drug smuggler. This role really puts Tom back into his adventurous element and is easily one of his best performances in recent memory. He proves that his charm and charisma isn’t lost, and personal judgements aside, sometimes it takes crazy to play crazy.

Goodbye Christopher Robin has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 4th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Looks like Fox Searchlight made a Winnie the Pooh movie without Winnie the Pooh. Instead, they Star Wars prequel-ed it and are bringing us a film called Goodbye Christopher Robin, which nobody wants to see. The film stars Domhall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, and Kelly McDonald that all takes place before Winnie the Pooh was even a thing. In fact, it’s about creating the honey-loving bear and his friends, along with some boring family love and drama. At least there looks to be some Nam-style war flashbacks. Honestly, I might just take a nap and you all can fill me in on this.

Hey guys, Jana here,

We all know the movies based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien (‘The Lord of the Rings‘ and ‘The Hobbit‘ trilogies), but not many knew the man. Chernin Entertainment for Fox Searchlight have set Dome Karukoski at the task of directing a biopic of the author. Nicholas Hoult is the front-runner to take on the part of the gifted author.
