Hi Bryan Here….

We have covered the production of this show quite a bit over the last few months which you can read about HERE.  I’m happy the trailer is finally here and well, it looks really fucking good.  Not sure how it will compare to LOST, but believe you me, I will definitely have my hopes up for it.

Hi Bryan Here…

Over at HERO COMPLEX, they have a story and interview with J.J. Abrams and he gives us some insight into this world surrounding his film, Super 8.  This film has been top secret, so I don’t know if Abrams is throwing us off or not, but I can;t wait to find out.  It is going to be one thrilling summer.

Hi Bryan Here…

Sorry about the lack of posts recently.  With all the holidays and with our recent move to bigger and better servers, the site should be working properly from now on with tons and tons of new reviews/stories/contests and much much more.

That said, LOST creator J.J. Abrams is pitching another tv program called “PULP”.

J.J. Abrams is Pitching New TV Show with LOST Vets

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2010

“Vulture has the report, saying that Abrams and collaborators Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec were pitching a ‘comedic drama’ tentatively called Odd Jobs, which would bring together Emerson and O’Quinn as the agents. This is just the latest news of a possible show featuring the two actors, which began in February when the pair said they were working on a possible post-Lost project. (One possibility mentioned then was a show that would feature the two as ’suburban hit men,’ which could have become this setup.) At this point it is just a possibility, but it’s a ramping up of several months’ worth of rumor, so stay tuned…”

For one I will watch anything that has the two actors and two anything J.J. Abrams says yes to I am all in. Looking froward to seeing this come through.

Fox Network Is Dedicated To New J.J. Abrams Alcatraz Pilot

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 16th, 2010

Fox network has bought into J.J. Abrams (LOST, Alias, Star Trek) new TV show creation called Alcatraz. It will be a drama tied to the prison off the coast of California.

The show is described as “a show about mysteries, secrets and the most infamous prison of all time: Alcatraz.”

That is pretty much all we know at this time. That’s pretty usual with something J.J. Everything is so top secret.

Al Capone was at one time serving time in Alactraz.

Sounds like a good premise to me. Any thoughts?

‘Overlord’ Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 10th, 2018

Overlord is the latest endeavor from sophomore feature film director Julius Avery and is produced by professional fanboy JJ Abrams.  Here’s how I imagine their meeting went.

Avery:  So, I have an idea for a video game movie.
JJ:  Well, we don’t own the rights to any video games, and those movies always suck.
Avery:  Yeah but see I play video games.
JJ:  OK, well, what video game do you want to base a movie on?
Avery:  ALL OF THEM!!!

‘King Cohen’ Blu-ray Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 18th, 2018

Larry Cohen is one of those old-school filmmakers that has been around a long time and is universally loved in the business. Cohen is mostly known for his B-movie films and having a penchant for not taking “no” for an answer. His filmmaking methods are pioneering and risky, but all have been a big success in their own way. Over the past few decades, Choen has amassed a ton of great friendships with other filmmakers, who all talk about Cohen her in this documentary called ‘King Cohen‘.

Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.

The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.

Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 25th, 2018

THE FILM

There is always hope for a new ‘Star Wars‘ movie. Two years ago with ‘The Force Awakens‘, Disneyand JJ Abrams reinvigorated the franchise into becoming the #1 movie of all time. Not only was it financially successful, but it brought a new love to the film series, since the prequels almost destroyed all that ‘Star Wars‘ had built up since 1977. It was a new day in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe with new characters crossing paths with our favorite original characters, which made our collective nerdy hearts soar with happiness and nostalgia.

Film Review: ‘The Cloverfield Paradox’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 5th, 2018

Going into ‘The Cloverfield Paradox‘, which should be renamed to ‘The Cloverfield Potato‘, I was a huge fan of this movie universe and its mythology. With 2008’s ‘Cloverfield‘, I loved the use of handheld cameras and the found footage aspect to tell this crazy story of a giant creature wreaking havoc on everyone and everything in New York, despite the annoying characters. Some years later, we got a film set in the same universe with ‘10 Cloverfield Lane‘, which had us holed up with John Goodman and couple other great characters where something terrible was happening outside their underground bunker, just as something equally awful was happening underground. JJ Abrams had announced a third film some years ago that would take place in this ‘Cloverfield‘ universe, but went thru many delays and a ton of titles, including ‘The God Particle‘.

Dan Moran’s Top 12 Movies of 2017 Plus Extras!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 4th, 2018

I saw 75 movies this year and I still have 3-4 left to finish up over the next few weeks. I haven’t seen The Post, Call Me By Your Name, or Phantom Thread yet. Phantom Thread is the only regret I have but it doesn’t come out until mid-January and I like to finish my list before first week of January ends. A few special awards before my top 12.

4K UHD Review: Westworld Season 1!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 11th, 2017

THE SERIES

HBO’s new flagship show ‘Westworld‘ entered with a big bang in its first season. Since ‘Game of Thrones‘ is ending soon, HBO was ahead of the game and needed its new sci-fi action original show and ‘Westworld‘ was its name. That rhymed a little bit. Based on Michael Crichton’s story and film from 1973 of the same name, ‘Westworld‘ takes a theme park (much like Disneyland) to the next level. What do I mean by that? Well, let’s say you entered the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ ride at Disneyland.

Star Wars Episode IX does NOT have a director anymore!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Wait, what? This shit again? Seriously, those Star Wars execs, including Kathleen Kennedy need to get their shit together, because this is the 2nd time in a couple of months this has happened. Back in June, Chris Miller and Phil Lord were let go from the Han Solo spin-off movie mid-way through the shoot for bullshit reasons. They brought on the capable, yet safe director of Ron Howard to finish the job. At least Episode IX wasn’t in full on production yet, but we did know that Colin Trevorrow was set to direct after his huge success on Jurassic World. That is not the case anymore. Trevorrow is out of the director’s seat, leaving Disney and Lucas Film to  find another filmmaker.
