Film Review: ‘The Predator’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 11th, 2018

Another reboot to the franchise brings more blood, guts, and humor to one of our favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger 80’s film ‘Predator‘. Now, it’s simply titled ‘THE PREDATOR‘, which vaguely addresses the past two films with zero mention of any characters. Shane Black is at the helm of this distant sequel to the original film, which is interesting, to say the least. Shane was in the first film back in 1987 and played the part of Hawkins who told the funny jokes through the film. Shane went on to write the ‘Lethal Weapon‘ movies, ‘The Monster Squad‘ and more importantly ‘Kiss Kiss Bang Bang‘, ‘The Nice Guys‘, and ‘Iron Man 3‘, before taking this on with his fellow ‘Monster Squad‘ collaborator Fred Dekker.

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

Summer time means a million things to different people, but some things we can all agree on. Cook outs, swimming, catching lightning bugs, camping and baseball. It’s just as pure as mom’s apple pie and the star spangled banner and every spring, a new season swings into action and a new hope is born for your team to be a contender and play through October. The national past time has been the basis for a lot of movies and I’m making some sense of them all with my Top 10 favorite baseball movies.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The trailer for ‘USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage‘ has officially arrived and this is one of Nicolas Cage’s movies that I have been really excited about. We still don’t have a release date, but the clip shows one hell of a tense thriller that will be worth the wait. Starring Nicolas Cage (‘National Treasure‘), Tom Sizemore (‘Saving Private Ryan‘), Thomas Jane (‘The Mist‘) and Yutaka Takeuchi (‘Letters From Iwo Jima‘) and is directed by Mario Van Peebles (‘Red Sky‘).

Netflix gives ‘The Punisher’ a Full Series!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2016-04-29 at 8.56.00 AM

It was only a matter of time, since Jon Bernthal’sPunisher‘ in the second season of ‘Daredevil‘ was so hugely popular, hence Netflix has just announced that ‘Punisher’ will have its own series. They have tried to do ‘The Punisher’ over the years, first being with Dolph Lundgren back in the 80s. I still have a soft spot for that movie. Then there was the Thomas Jane films, which could have been amazing and a few scenes had their moments, but it was mostly laughable. Put in a few other projects in the mix and you would have a sub-par Punisher movie realm.

Hi, Bryan Here….

So I guess because ‘The Expendables’ has done so well, it was only a matter of time before someone thought to make the same film, but with an all female cast.  This leads to the question, who will be in the film?  Who will lead a cast of female badasses?  Well, it looks like we have our first cast member.  Gina Carano, star of ‘Haywire’ will star in this action film according to Variety.

Hi Bryan Here….

I just love this original series from HBO.  It is so much fun to watch and Thomas Jane is hilarious as a recently divorced high school teacher who moonlights as a male prostitute.  This second season progresses the story of a man who tries to put his family back together by earning more money in this failing economy by pleasuring women.  What an excellent and fun show.  Watch it.

Hi Bryan Here….

Having skirted the watchful eyes of family and friends, Ray and Tanya are taking their business to the next level.  But can they continue to fly under the radar of the law after setting up a new, very public front for their gigolo enterprise?  The Emmy®- and Golden Globe-nominated comedy series HUNG kicks off its ten-episode third season SUNDAY, OCT. 2 (10:00-10:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on HBO.  Created by Colette Burson and Dmitry Lipkin, the show uses dark humor to tell the story of a man fighting to survive personal setbacks that have been compounded by a troubled economy.

Hi Bryan Here…..

The HBO series ‘Hung’ Complete 2nd Season has just been announced for Blu-Ray and DVD for a release date of September 27th.  In its debut, Hung became a breakout hit and was declared “HBO’s best new comedy” by The New York Times.  The second season expertly built on this momentum “layering on even more heart, smarts and danger” (Red Eye), for a “fresher…more textured” (The Washington Post.com) making it one of the network’s most watched shows.

Fantastic Fest is one of the events that is pure bliss for any fan of genre cinema. If you love horror, sci-fi, foreign, action, and even adult-oriented movies from the 1970s, then Fantastic Fest is the place to let that freak flag fly high and be with like-minded individuals that truly appreciate the art of movies. All of the madness and fun will take place in Austin, TX starting on September 20th and run for 10 days at the Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar St. This year, which is the 14th annual festival of Fantastic-ness, captures the essence of the Korean movie scene with a ton of cool films being showcased from Korea, both new and old. This is something you won’t want to miss.

The first wave of movies has been announced, including the World Premiere of the WWII horror movie called ‘OVERLORD‘ from J.J. Abrams. In addition to that film, Fantastic Fest will host Gareth Evans‘ horror movie ‘APOSTLE‘. Gareth gave us the amazing films ‘THE RAID‘ AND ‘THE RAID 2‘, so you can expect some insane fight scenes and horrific imagery. Alos, a film called ‘THE NIGHT COMES FOR US‘, which stars the badass from those ‘RAID‘ movies will be shown, meaning Iko Uwais will stun us once again with his amazing physical skills. If you were a fan of ‘THE GREASY STRANGLER‘, the director of that movie Jim Hosking has a new film called ‘AN EVENING WITH BEVERLY LUFF LINN‘, which is being described as a David Lynch meets John Waters type of movie. You had me at Greasy Strangler.

Lastly, there are some vintage films coming through from AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), one of which has peaked my interest from the title alone – ‘MARY JANE’S NOT A VIRGIN ANYMORE‘. I have high hopes for this one. Below is the list of films with cast and crew info, along with a brief synopsis. Enjoy and hope to see you all there.

Film Review: ‘Monster Trucks’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 11th, 2017

Joel H., here…

monster-trucks-movie-cgi-creature

Remember what it was like to dream? I’m not referring to our current dreams of better jobs, or more money, or a new car, but dreaming without restriction? As a kid, I dreamed several times of experiencing that bicycle flight in front of the moon with E.T. at the helm. I dreamed of discovering pirate gold and sneaking a kiss from my older brother’s girl like Mikey. I sat in spaceships and fighter jets made of cardboard boxes. I gave life and personality to a slew of GI Joe’s, even little green army men with no functional limbs. I dreamed. There was no lack of depth to those dreams. No impending Trump administration. No knowledge that the guns used for pretend are replicates of actual war machines taking lives every single day. My simple imagination was rampant without knowing otherwise, but I grew up.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Max’!

by Janet White on Nov 16th, 2015

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

91DgUolLpdL._SL1500_

THE FILM

Bye Lassie…Bye Benji…Bye to my childhood doggie heroes.  There’s a new action star in town.  Max (Carlos) is the cleverest doggie hero ever.  A Belgian Malinois, Max, is also a Marine service dog.  Finally a film brings sincere tribute to the heroism and struggles these beautiful yet fierce animals endure. Max opens in a desert terrain shot as from Max’s point of view.  Max searches out the village for insurgents and a weapons stash.  Max is highly adept to weapons’ discovery and of course successful in warning his team of Marines of insurgents.  Kyle (Robbie Amell) is Max’s handler.  The two are inseparable.
