Hey everyone, Jana here,

joaquin-phoenix-the-master

Comic-Con isn’t a place where only huge bombs of information get dropped, it’s also chock-full of fans spreading rumors like the wildfires that all too often consume the San Diego area anyway. Seems like one of the biggest rumors surrounded the potential casting for a Marvel Studios property, ‘Doctor Strange‘. Fans have been dropping names like Tom Hardy, Jared Leto and Benedict Cumberbatch in mass conversations that branched out until at least a few of the names were being taken as gospel truth. I’ve got the answer, kids, and it’s NOT Cumberbatch.

‘Joker’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 2nd, 2019

‘Joker’ is the best comic book character study ever made.

Todd Phillips is several oceans removed from his usual comedy escapades (The Hangover trilogy) with his brutally dark, yet brilliant film ‘Joker‘. Those of you who are not particularly fond of the comic book genre these days will still find something amazing in this DC universe that takes place in the 1980s. Joaquin Phoenix gives an unparalleled performance as the titular psychopath with a smile like you’ve never seen him before in pages or on-screen. It’s really something to behold, but then again, Phoenix is always magnificent. The real star of the film is director Todd Phillips himself, who for the first time showed that he can hang with the likes of Martin Scorsese, Brian De Palma, and Francis Ford Coppola, delivering a picture-perfect account on Joker.

Dan Moran’s Top Films of 2018 and his Award Nominations!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 30th, 2018

This year I saw 102 new movies in 2018. That number is actual movies released in 2018. I count Netflix and streaming movies released this year because that is where we are heading but the majority of the 102 was in movie theaters. I decided not to rank my top movies this year because at the end of the day the difference between #10 thru #3 is usually based on my mood when I write the list. So I just put my top movies in ABC order.

Film Review: ‘Irrational Man’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 30th, 2015

Sara O., Here…

Whether you have a surface level knowledge of Woody Allen films or are an avid follower, the themes in “Irrational Man” will feel familiar: conflicted, tortured man feels the world is meaningless yet is adored by fawning women, and murder as the only solution to the problems of the world.

Woody Allen Has Begun To Cast His Next Film!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 9th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

File photo of director Woody Allen on the set of "The Bop Decameron" in downtown Rome

Woody Allen is one of the most prolific filmmakers in the world. Even at the age of 79, the direct still seems to get out one or two films a year for the past several decades. Each of these films are written and directed by him. He even finds time to star in his film and other friend’s movies, such as last year’s ‘Fading Gigolo‘ with John Turturro.

Film Review: ‘Inherent Vice’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 8th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Inherent_Vice_Movie

Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the best directors working today. His films tell unique and compelling stories with such sustenance and amazing characters that you can’t help but be fully immersed within his world. From ‘Boogie Nights‘ and ‘There Will Be Blood‘ to ‘Punch Drunk Love‘ to ‘The Master‘ and everything else in between, Anderson has time and time again show that he is at the top of his game with each film he puts out.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Benedict-Cumberbatch-as-Khan-in-Star-Trek-Into-Darkness

I’ve got some news about Marvel’s  ‘Doctor Strange‘  feature project that will grace theaters in 2016. In a case of we-should-have-seen-it-coming-casting, America’s favorite British export, Benedict Cumberbatch has the golden trifecta required to anchor a Marvel film. He’s got the slightly chiseled handsome face, and perfected the quality of acting an absolute arrogant but brilliant character and he’s got a deep range to his acting ability that supersedes the first two qualities.

Hey guys, Jana here,

The New York Film Festival is one of the highlights in the festival circuit. It’s an excellent place for a filmmaker to get a lot of exposure. Writer-Director Paul Thomas Anderson has landed the big centerpiece gala for the third time with ‘Inherent Vice‘, Anderson achieved the same trophy position with ‘Boogie Nights‘ and ‘Punch-Drunk Love‘. Many filmmakers use the festival circuit to promote new film and Anderson is no stranger to the scene. ‘The Master‘ was viewed only a handful of times in the US before it’s competition appearance at Venice in 2012 and ‘There Will Be Blood‘ world-premiered at Fantastic Fest in 2007.

Today I screened the French film “L’inconnu du lac” or “Stranger by the Lake” by director Alain Guiraudie. The film stars Pierre Deladonchamps as Franck, who is the shining point of this movie, and the French Joaquin Phoenix lookalike, Christophe Paou as ‘Michel’.

Film Review: ‘Her’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 10th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

her_movie.jpg.CROP.promovar-mediumlarge

Usually, the month of January is reserved for films that tend to fall below the less than average category, and are almost always immediately forgettable and tend to leave a bad taste in your mouth like a caramel onion. However, with Spike Jonze’s original and fresh tale on the age old story of finding love in the most unlikely place, ‘Her‘ might be the one of the best films not only to be released in January, but in the last few years. I have no doubt that this beautiful and smart film will win tons of awards as well as make a decent sized dent at the box office by word-of-mouth.

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 12th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

1355416686-golden_globe_awards

Here are the nominees for the 2014 Golden Globe Awards. Wow, there were a lot of snubs here. And how did ‘Rush‘ make the list for Best Picture? No way! And what about ‘The Way Way Back‘, ‘Mud‘, or ‘Short Term 12‘ not being nominated? For shame. Let me know what you think of this nominee list?
