From the great musical maestro, Andrew Lloyd Webber comes new music to rock you out of your seat. Dallas Summer Musicals presents School of Rock the Musical, based on the film of the same name. Jack Black made you laugh to your core in the lead role, Dewey. Dewey (Rob Colletti) wants nothing more than to become a rock star. Much to the dismay of Ned’s girlfriend, Patty (Emily Borromeo), who wants Dewey to grow up and contribute to the household. ‘Gotham City Sirens’ Will Rock Theaters Soon!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

GCS Cv1 var

Margot Robbie and director David Ayer are back together, the last time this happened, the world received ‘Suicide Squad‘. The next venture is even more of a daunting task, and that is ‘Gotham City Sirens‘. I’ll assume that not everyone eats, sleeps and breathes DC comics and I’ll slow it down. DC is the comic book world I prefer to live in, I like dark, deep, broody, melancholy atmospheres, and I’m not entirely certain the sun ever hits the center of Gotham City, but I’m ok with that. Marvel is too bright and flashy and, just not me.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

We’ve known for a while now that Hollywood was trying to remake ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show‘. We’ve seen various iterations on the cult icon film from ‘Glee‘ to ‘The Simpsons‘, and even recently, MTV and Fox is trying to put their spin on the classic musical. Fox’s version is gaining steam though as Laverne Cox (‘Orange is the New Black) has just been cast as Frank-N-Furter, which was originally played by Tim Curry in the original film and stage play.

In the land of remakes, there is one bright spot that hasn’t been touched, yet. Yet is the key word in that sentence. Blu-Ray Review: ‘300: Rise of an Empire’!!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

You would think that by the look of ‘300: Rise of an Empire‘, the sequel to the 2006 hit film ’300′, director Zack Snyder had returned to make this film. Well, you’d be wrong as Noam Murro directed this, making this film his first feature film. But don’t worry, Snyder seemed to have a heavy hand and watchful eye over this film, as his handprints are all over this from his screenplay to the camerawork. It’s all here again in this prequel, side story, and sequel that features a lot of the same characters from the original. ’300′ cost $65 million to make back in 2006 and was largely made in front of a green screen. That film grossed over $457 million dollars.

We ReCast ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show‘, which is one of the best films of all time. There is no way we can replace any of the actors aboard here, but we know that MTV wants to remake it and in this day and age, it is more likely to happen than not. Yes folks, that is correct.  The Rock will be starring in a teddy bear film, but not the sequel to the Seth MacFarlane vehicle ‘Ted‘. Bryan Reviews ‘Rock Of Ages’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 14th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here…

‘Rock Of Ages’ is an 80’s Rock n’ Roll orgy turned up to eleven.  I have no doubt that 80’s rock music fans will eat this up and rock themselves out in the theater.  This musical is based on Chris D’ Arienzo’s Broadway play and has been adapted to the big screen in a major and hilarious way with an allstar cast.  Plus they got Adam Shankman (they guy who directed the remake of ‘Hairspray’) to direct this 80’s rock opus.  ‘Rock Of Ages’ is over-the-top ridiculous, campy, silly, but one hell of a good time.  You’ll leave the theater singing your favorite Twisted Sister song and wanting to change your hair into a mullet.

Rock n Roll Hall of Fame nominees are…..

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 29th, 2010

Ladies and Gents, your 2011 Rock n Roll Hall of Fame nominees are first-timers Tom Waits, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, Donovan, and Neil Diamond (Jewish Elvis), along with previously snubbed artists Beastie Boys, LL Cool J, J. Geils Band, Donna Summer, Chic, Dr. John, Laura Nyro, Joe Tex, Darlene Love, and Chuck Willis. (Via Rolling Stone) In order to be eligible, an artist must have put out his or her first recording in 1985 or before. And since Tom Waits put out his debut single in 1973, that means it took him 12 years to be nominated. Tom Waits is my favorite musician…. well Tom and Michael Jackson.

The lucky few who get enough votes from industry insiders to make it into the Hall this year will be announced in December. The induction ceremony is set to take place March 14 in New York City.

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Judd Apatow

Judd Apatow is developing ‘Trainwreck‘. No, I’m not saying I think the film will be a trainwreck.  Apatow has found his niche in the film world much in the same way Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith have their cemented fans. A few of the trademarks for an Apatow film are finding the same 10-12 actors appearing in almost each one, and while they are brilliant comedies, they’re realistic and a bit longer than the average 90 minute comedy. So far the only thing that’s been released about ‘Trainwreck‘, is that he’s directing and we’re beginning to see the cast fill out.

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 27th, 2014

Jana B. here,

Rob Lowe

If you were scared you wouldn’t see Rob Lowe weekly after his stint in ‘Parks and Recreation‘ ending, worry no more! NBC ordered a pilot for a comedy starring Lowe and executive produced by the star, as well. Writers Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory both having written for ‘Late Show With David Letterman‘ and ‘King Of The Hill‘, are writing the script and serving as show runners with Todd Holland (‘Malcolm in The Middle‘, ‘30 Rock‘) directing.

70th Annual Golden Globe Awards - Show

The speculation that Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have signed to host the Golden Globes for the next two years is true. “Tina and Amy are two of the most talented comedic writer/performers in our business, and they were a major reason the Golden Globes was the most entertaining awards show of last season,” said NBC president of alternative and late night programming Paul Telegdy. “We’re elated they wanted to host together again and that they committed for the next two years.” After Poehler and Fey’s last run as hosts had positive reviews and 19.7 million total viewers and a six-year high for the show, the comedy duo is sure to give them another 2 years of greatness.

 emmy-awards-image

The 65th annual Emmy nominations were announced early this morning, and some well deserved shows were mentioned. Notably, ‘House of Cards‘ and ‘Arrested Development‘ were nominated, making Netflix a heavy hand this year at the awards. ‘Mad Men’, ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Homeland’ were also nominated. Below is the partial list of nominations. Let us know if you think your favorite show was snubbed this year.

Hi, Bryan Here….

globes-drink

The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing.  Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘.  Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage.  I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter.  After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories.  There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.

2012 Emmy Award Winners!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 24th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners.  I don’t  see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything.  They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’.  The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again.  However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’

Guess Which Adult Swim Series Won An Emmy?!?!?

Hi, Bryan Here….

It’s true.  Very true.  ‘Children’s Hospital’ won an Emmy this weekend.  The beloved genius hysterically funny tv series on Cartoon Network under the Adult Swim lineup won in the “Outstanding Special Class: Short Format Live Action Entertainment Programs” category.  Basically, they won Best Series of their format.  And that is kick ass.

Fox to Take On Hannibal! …Burress. From Jonah Hill!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 13th, 2011

The Bishop Charlotte Reporting….

(Warning: You’re not getting through this article without cannibal jokes.)

Fox has bought Jonah Hill’s sitcom, starring stand-up comedian Hannibal Burress, with a blind script commitment plus penalty. The format – single- or multi-camera – has not yet been determined, but the show will bring Burress’ performing chops to television for the first time. Burress has written episodes of both Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock (and there have been no strange disappearances from either) as well as stood up for Comedy Central and David Letterman, but has not yet had his own shtick in a sitcom.

‘Fighting With My Family’ – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 20th, 2019

“‘Fighting With My Family’ dare I say it, is my favorite film of the year so far.”

Pro-wrestling is a way of life and an escape into another universe of fun characters and storylines where it allows us to put aside real-world thoughts for a few hours and enjoy some high octane entertainment from some of the world’s best athletes and entertainers. Most of us at least one point in our lives have watched a pro-wrestling match and still vividly remember the match to a tee and who competed. After Stephen Merchant’s latest directorial effort ‘Fighting With My Family‘, you will forever remember the name Paige, a real-life woman who started wrestling at the age of 8 in England with her entire family of wrestlers, where at the age of 18, was signed to WWE and won the Women’s Championship Title, making her the youngest ever to accomplish that feat.

Dan Moran’s Top Films of 2018 and his Award Nominations!

This year I saw 102 new movies in 2018. That number is actual movies released in 2018. I count Netflix and streaming movies released this year because that is where we are heading but the majority of the 102 was in movie theaters. I decided not to rank my top movies this year because at the end of the day the difference between #10 thru #3 is usually based on my mood when I write the list. My Favorite Movies Released in 2018!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 27th, 2018

The year of 2018 has come to a close and over the past 365 days, I’ve seen roughly 175 new films that were released.  I had a ton of fun watching each and every single one of them, even if I came out sour towards a film. There were a ton of great films this year that ranged from big action blockbusters, emotional indie dramas, scary-as-hell films that still haunt me, and some laugh out loud movies that always put me in the right mood. I’d chalk 2018 as a winner in the movie business, because there are some films that came out that I will truly cherish for a long time to come.

‘First Man’ Film Review #2!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 10th, 2018

Anytime I see a movie about space the technology seems effortless. Even in space disaster movies, the main character is one button or airlock away from safety. The technology and engineering are always #15 on the list of most movies set in space. Even movies like Apollo 13 romanticize space travel to a large degree and gloss over the real work it takes to even get up there. First Man takes a different approach to launch humans into space by making every single aspect of the space program of the 60s be, frankly, terrifying.

‘Someone’s Watching Me!’ Blu-ray Review!

Not to be confused with Michael Jackson’s song (Rockwell) ‘Somebody’s Watching Me‘, this 1978 made-for-television film called ‘Someone’s Watching Me!‘ was directed by the iconic John Carpenter (Halloween), which interestingly enough, came out a couple of weeks after ‘Halloween‘ was released in theaters. The film stars Lauren Hutton as a young woman who moves from NYC to LA in order to become a TV producer/director. She seems to be enjoying life out there, however, she has a stalker who spies on her from the building across from her with a telescope. This stalker sends her awful messages, harasses her, and even sends her strange gifts in the mail.

Film Review: ‘The Meg’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 10th, 2018

If you watched the trailer for The Meg in which a 90-foot shark appears to stalk a wedding party because the bride’s tiny dog jumped in for a swim while ‘Somewhere Beyond the Sea’ blares over the speakers and hated it, then The Meg is not for you. The Meg is continuing a growing trend of low-tier Hollywood movies knowing exactly what they are. It is big, loud, preposterous, silly, funny, and so over the top, it hurts. It leans into these descriptors so hard that I found myself sort of admiring the fact that everyone involved was like, “We’re gonna see how ridiculous we can make this and the audience will either smile or their eyes will roll out of their head.” I found myself chuckling at the absurdity of it all, but not in a malicious way. I enjoyed the movie but will never see it again.

Film Review: ‘Skyscraper’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 12th, 2018

Summer blockbusters have been a staple for all of us for many years in the movie theater. We can expect, a ton of action, one-liners, witty actors, explosions, feel good endings, and sometimes monsters, zombies, aliens, robots, or a combination of all four. These big summer blockbusters usually lack an award winning story or break-through performances, but it makes up for that in sheer entertainment and high stakes. When you bring in a former charismatic WWE Champion with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to play the “every character from our favorite 80s-90s action movies, you’re gonna get something wild, fun, and nothing short of spectacular, which is why I’m hear to say that ‘Skyscraper‘ is the big budget summer blockbuster you’ve always wanted.

Blu-ray Review: ‘A Wrinkle In Time’!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 30th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Beka Perlstein!)

I really wanted to like A Wrinkle in Time more than I did. I gave it my best shot, but in the end, the only thing I can honestly say was that it had lots of great colors. Perhaps it was my high expectations for a Disney film, plus Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling that set me up for disappointment, but regardless, I was left feeling let down in a film that I knew practically nothing about. I have never read the 1962 Madeleine L’Engle novel, so I honestly had no clue what the plot was but whatever, it’s Disney, it’s gonna be good. Well…

Blu-ray Review: Black Panther!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 15th, 2018

THE FILM

Going into the 18th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’d hope you wouldn’t see the same thing over and over that we’ve been watching since Iron Man debuted a decade ago. As the years have passed on by, watching a Marvel movie became something tedious, even though most of the films are fun and enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, Marvel has done a great job with each and every film they’ve put out, but moving into their 18th film, it seems like we’ve seen almost everything and every action scene is something recycled from the previous, whether it be superheroes jumping from car to car during car chases or aliens come out of the sky and destroying the planet. Luckily for all of us Marvel fans, ‘Black Panther‘ breathes new and creative life into a somewhat stale film series in the best ways possible.

Film Review: ‘Rampage’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 11th, 2018

There really isn’t any point in denying that Dwayne The Rock Johnson is the biggest movie star in Hollywood right now, but he might also be the best. Nobody, except early Will Smith, can star in, sell, and market a movie the way he can. His power to entertain audiences with ridiculous premises is undeniable. Rampage is stupid, big, and insane, but it’s also obnoxiously entertaining and a joy to watch.

Every five years it is mandatory that Hollywood releases a coming of age story of teens trying to get laid. Animal House, Porkys, Revenge of the Nerds, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, all the way up to Superbad. Some are classics and some are just a good time at the movies but the formula almost always works. The formula works for Blockers which is a really funny hour and a half with a few new twists to allow the tried and true premise to stand out.

Blu-ray Review: ‘I, Tonya’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 2nd, 2018

THE FILM

Yes, I’m old enough to have been alive and understand all that went down back in 1994, in regards to the Olympic Figure Skating competitors. Specifically that of Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan. It was such a media circus of epic proportions and very bizarre culmination of events that made worldwide news for months and even years after the 1994 Olympic games. Directed by Craig Gillespie (‘Lars and the Real Girl’, ‘Fright Night’, ‘Million Dollar Arm’), ‘I, Tonya‘ follows the life of Tonya Harding, from her upbringing, her abusive home-life with her mother and other relationships, that lead to her competing in figure skating and the infamous attack on her USA teammate Nancy Kerrigan.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’!

THE FILM

There is always hope for a new ‘Star Wars‘ movie. Two years ago with ‘The Force Awakens‘, Disneyand JJ Abrams reinvigorated the franchise into becoming the #1 movie of all time. Not only was it financially successful, but it brought a new love to the film series, since the prequels almost destroyed all that ‘Star Wars‘ had built up since 1977. It was a new day in the ‘Star Wars‘ universe with new characters crossing paths with our favorite original characters, which made our collective nerdy hearts soar with happiness and nostalgia.

Blu-ray Review: ‘The Disaster Artist’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 8th, 2018

THE FILM

(This film portion was written by Fernando Martinez)

By now you must know about the “The Room.”  If by some chance you don’t know what it is, I would highly recommend viewing before watching “The Disaster Artist,” although it is by no means required.  Just as a cliff’s note, “The Room” is a cult film known as the best worst movie ever made.  It’s a melodramatic poorly acted mess, but it has hit a chord with enough people to gain midnight movie status, along with audience participation a-la Rocky Horror Picture Show.  It is a beast all of its own and it has drawn the love from college stoners to A list actors alike.  Naturally, in the center of the Venn Diagram of these fanbases, lies James Franco.

4K UHD Review: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 26th, 2018

THE FILM

Thor is starring in his third stand-alone film called ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ and brings a much needed change to the character in the best possibly way. Thor now has a fun personality and great comedic timing, mostly due to Chris Hemsworth amazing acting chops here. In addition to that, the film is steeped in a hypnotic, yet hyper-active color scheme that looks like Willy Wonka and Andy Warhol got together and decorated a city. In fact, Wonka’s theme ‘Pure Imagination’ is a song that plays in the film. It’s not all cold and stiff dialogue here anymore with brown or earth toned aliens and robots that Thor has to use his hammer to fight. Everyone and everything is covered in bright primary and pastel colors that creates a breath of fresh air in this stale universe. That’s all thanks to filmmaker Taika Waititi for giving his unique vision on this big budget film ($180 million). In previous Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, particularly with Thor, things have been sour and gloomy.

4K UHD Review: ‘Hell or High Water’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 19th, 2018

THE FILM

(The film portion was written by Liz Tramer)

Director David Mackenzie’s latest film, Hell or High Water, is a perfect example of how slow and steady wins the race.  The film is a little slow to start, but once it gets going, it’s fantastic. The story centers around two brothers, Toby  Howard (Chris Pine) and Tanner Howard (Ben Foster) who are desperately trying to save their mother’s farm and keep it in the family. The brothers are literally under the gun to find the money and decide the quickest way to make the deadline is to rob banks. Toby is intelligent, calm, cool and collected and the brains behind the operation. Tanner is an ex con hothead who relishes the crime spree and does little to control either his rage or his inclination toward violence.

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 1st, 2018

Hey guys, Jana here,

I know these “Best of 2017” lists should technically be published in 2017, but why would I start 2018 any differently than I lived the majority of my adult life: Procrastinating and underachieving. What can I say? That’s my wheelhouse.

Some of these films are still in theaters, while some are on Netflix, 4K UHD, and Blu-ray, so you’ll be able to quickly see any of these if you haven’t. I watched over 270 movies that were released in 2017 and these are my absolute favorites. I hope you get to see all of these, because I know you’ll love them. In no particular order…..

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Oh, we got fun…and the game! Coaxing and soaring over the tails of its predecessor, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle will rock your world. In 1995, Jumanji, centered on a board game, turned a home and a city inside out with adventure stampeding over the bounds of the silver screen.
