The John Wick Comic Book is Almost Here!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 20th, 2017

Hi  everyone, Bryan here….

JohnWick01-Cov-B-Cowan

We already knew that the comic book publisher Dynamite Entertainment had already worked a deal to bring the story of John Wick into the comic book world, but now we have a release date, writers, artists, and even some info on the story. John Wick is one of the best action films of recent memory. It spawned a recent sequel with both films making a ton of money and much critical praise. Not only does John Wick have spectacular stunt work and one hell of a story that follows a former assassin out to kill the people he once worked for, but this mysterious world John Wick is in has been living in is one that we’ve gotten glimpses of in the past two films, leaving us wanting more. This comic book will explore that world in more detail, which means more information on assassins, the hotels, and people who handle their business. I can’t wait.

Blu-ray Review: John Wick 2

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

51kbWQ1BmfL

THE FILM

Ever since Keanu Reeves jumped into the role of John Wick in 2014, we all have wanted a sequel in the worst way. Filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch created a monster of a franchise with that film that brought the action genre back to a high point. That first film had a simple story and some of the best action sequences in a long time. Some bad guys steal John Wick’s car and kill his precious puppy dog a few days after his wife dies. Not knowing John Wick is the best assassin in the world, Wick sets out on revenge and literally kills everybody. It was just so good and showed the world what everyone secretly wants to do if some jerk killed your dog. The first film had a modest budget of only $20 million, but ended up making almost $90 million, which leads us to future sequels.

Hey guys, Jana here,

mv5bmtuxmzc4mtkwof5bml5banbnxkftztgwote5mdcymdi-_v1_

IMDB describes this film as “The continuing adventures of former hitman, John Wick.” I have a feeling that will be changing after seeing this trailer. If you’re anything like me, I’ve been waiting for this clip for as long as I’ve known they were creating a sequel. Keanu can kick ass and I love nothing more than to see that. The first official trailer for the film shows us just how much of a bad-ass Mr. Reeves is, as he’s got a contract on his head.

‘John Wick: Chapter 2’ Has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 8th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

john-wick-2-poster

I’m just so excited that we are getting a sequel to the AMAZING action film from 2014 ‘John Wick‘. This time, the title is Chapter 2 and has Keanu Reeves taking out the bad guys yet again. Chad Stahelski has come back to direct, but left his other directing partner behind this time, where most of the action takes place in Rome in this sequel. We were promised bigger and better (if that were a possibility since the first film was perfect), and judging by this trailer, every delivered on a big level.

‘John Wick 2’ Rounds Out Its Cast!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 9th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

john-wick-keanu-reeves

You know you can’t wait for ‘John Wick 2‘! Keanu Reeves and the filmmakers certainly surprised us with ‘John Wick‘, which is where a man goes on a killing rampage after a bunch of jerks kill his dog and steal his car. It’s basically what we would all want to do if someone did that to us. Most people are returning for the sequel that will have Wick (Reeves) take out a bunch of bad guys again, which the filmmakers from the first film did an excellent job with their cameras and story. It was one of the best action films in a long time. Read the review HERE!

Fernando’s Film Review of ‘John Wick’!!

Fernando M., Here….

John-Wick-Movie (11)

Remember all those times you made fun of Keanu Reeves?  Well get ready to eat your words you nonbelievers!  Reeves is fixin to show you what pain is for 90 minutes of gun shooting neck breaking knife stabbing throat crunching action! The plot is as timeless a tale as our childhood stories of yesteryear.  Who doesn’t remember that lovable parable about the old retired hitman who gets wronged by the Russian mob….oh….well anyways, that’s the plot.  It is an incredibly simple setup for a fantastic revenge story.

Film Review: ‘John Wick’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 21st, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

John Wick Movie

It’s been a long while since we’ve received a balls out action movie that works on every level. Luckily for us, filmmakers Chad Stahelski and David Leitch have concocted one hell of a brutal, fun, and highly entertaining action film, starring the man, the myth, the legend Keanu Reeves. If you’ve been bored with your action movie choices as of lately, don’t worry, ‘John Wick‘ is the ultimate action flick of the year. Sure, it’s a story that you’ve seen many times before, and I’m sure you’ll see many times after this one, but ‘John Wick‘ is filmed so well, has great performances, and is as brutal as you would hope in a gut wrenching action film, that you’ll leave the theater fully satisfied and wanting a ‘John Wick‘ franchise.

Hello, Jana here,

h0qn7y2r4ikrdkrf7ve4

A John Grisham novel is like a mug of coffee on a stormy day, a glass of wine after the kids are asleep, or even a Xanax when you want to rip someone’s head off. The point is, it’s a calming, reassuring presence. It’s going to be an intense, legal, thrill ride that has a feel-good ending. Grisham’s tried and true writing style is gripping, authentic and something that lends itself to film adaptation easily. This has been the case with ‘The Firm‘, ‘The Pelican Brief‘, ‘The Client‘ and ‘A Time to Kill‘ among several others. There is even a complete departure from his norm evident in ‘Christmas With The Kranks‘.

Step Brothers movie image Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly

I love a good buddy movie and won’t even pretend that I don’t. That being said, I loved Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly teaming up in Step Brothers! Needless to say, this news about a new film from Sony and Ferrell’s joint company, Gary Sanchez Productions, with Adam McKay, got me excited for what this movie will have in store. Sony is remembering that sweet payday that Step Brothers brought them when it earned $100 million in domestic box office sales, I’m sure. Devil’s Night is the name of this potential comedy gold. If that name doesn’t evoke memories from movies like The Crow and Grosse Pointe Blank, well you just haven’t been paying attention.

Blu-ray Review: ‘Atomic Blonde’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 9th, 2017

THE FILM

This film portion is written by Dan Moran.

Atomic Blonde isn’t a perfect movie. It has an overly complex plot and is about 20 minutes longer than it needs to be, but all of that is overcome by some of the best action sequences in recent memory with an absolutely badass performance by Charlize Theron.

Film Review: ‘American Assassin’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 15th, 2017

Dan M. here…

You can’t make an action movie like this in 2017 and expect anyone to be impressed with it. Not when studios crank out Bourne, Bond, John Wick, Atomic Blonde, The Raid, etc. Those are movies that execute things at such a high level with passable stories that at least allow you to buy into the character. Hell, even Jack Reacher had some self-awareness to it that made the shrug-worthy, ridiculous, sequel mildly enjoyable. American Assassin is an all-around pretty bad movie but it does have a few bright spots. It honestly felt like the writers watched a Bourne movie, then got high, and played 3 hours of Call of Duty on easy difficulty before putting pen to paper.

Goodbye Christopher Robin has a Trailer!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 4th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Looks like Fox Searchlight made a Winnie the Pooh movie without Winnie the Pooh. Instead, they Star Wars prequel-ed it and are bringing us a film called Goodbye Christopher Robin, which nobody wants to see. The film stars Domhall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, and Kelly McDonald that all takes place before Winnie the Pooh was even a thing. In fact, it’s about creating the honey-loving bear and his friends, along with some boring family love and drama. At least there looks to be some Nam-style war flashbacks. Honestly, I might just take a nap and you all can fill me in on this.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 20th, 2017

to-the-bone---still-1_31631913971_o-h_2017

Netflix has a new original movie they are releasing on their streaming platform on July 14th called To The Bone that stars Lily Collins and Keanu Reeves. Don’t expect John Wick to walk in and start offing people or Ted Theodore Logan to start playing the guitar here. This is on a more serious note, which follows a young woman named Ellen (Lily Collins), who suffers from severe anorexia and enters a group recovery home in a last ditch effort to get better and survive. There, a fun and unconventional doctor (Keanu Reeves) will learn how to conquer the awfulness of anorexia.

Guess Who’s Playing Cable In ‘Deadpool 2’??

Hey guys, Jana here,

One of the most desirable roles in comic book movies has finally been cast. The curiosity is at an end. We finally know who will play Cable in ‘Deadpool 2‘, and it’s Josh Brolin. I’ll admit his casting doesn’t sit quite right with me, when I think of Cable, I think of Stephen Lang, but I’m certain Brolin will make the role his own and win over the fan base.

Film Review: ‘The Great Wall’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 17th, 2017

Fernando M., here….

Screen Shot 2017-02-17 at 8.48.27 AM

This is a bad year for walls. ‘The Great Wall‘ easily wins the “biggest misnomer of the year” award. Should have gone with the title “This Wall, It’s OK I Guess.” What the hell went wrong with this picture?  The setup is great, which is “We use the Great Wall of China as a backdrop for a fantasy film about monsters.”  There’s a parable about monsters and greed and containment and human evil, but really, it’s all about monsters attacking the Great Wall of China.  On this premise alone, it sounds like a lot of fun, and it really could have been.

Just What is ‘Extortion’?

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 13th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

Screen Shot 2017-02-13 at 5.55.30 PM

How much would you pay someone that has kidnapped your family and threatening to kill them if you don’t pay them millions of dollars? If money wasn’t in the cars, what would you do in that particular situation? That’s the question that is asked in a new film called ‘Extortion’, which stars Danny Glover, Eion Bailey (Once Upon a Time), and Oscar nominated actor Barkhad Abdi (Captain Phillips). If I was in this situation, I feel I would have two options. One, cut my losses and start over with beautiful wife (or wives) with big breasts with all the cocaine and Dr. Pepper we can handle, OR I would hire John Wick to take care of things. Since the latter option is movie magic, I’m going with option one. It’s what God would have wanted anyway.

Film Review: ‘The Accountant’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 12th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The Accountant‘ is not just about someone who does people’s taxes and saves people money? It’s so much more than that with Gavin O’Connor’s (Miracle, Warrior) film ‘The Accountant‘, starring Ben Affleck or as we all know him now as ‘Batman‘. ‘The Accountant‘ is a mix between Jason Bourne, Rain Man, and John Wick as we follow a man named Christian Wolff (if that’s his real name?) who was diagnosed as a high-functioning autistic kid at a young age. He had an affinity for numbers and solving puzzles, and was super quick to do so. He might have just been a superhero from an early age.

Bryan’s Best and Worst of 2014 List!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 22nd, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Wright_39_s_Top_10_Films_of_2014

I can’t believe how fast this year has gone by. 2014 was an interesting year to say the least, most of which was great. Movie-wise, I think 2014 had some excellent films filling its theaters, but of course it had some real stinkers too. Below is my list of the Best and Worst films of 2014 with some added categories down at the bottom. I believe this year I watched over 145 new films, theatrically speaking and it was very difficult to narrow them down from 25. After some chocolate snacks covered in marshmallow cream, I finally had a TOP 10. But when you talk about the Best movies, you have to mention the worst too. My list tends to be a tad bit different from others, but hey, I’m twisted. I highly encourage you to seek out these movies – good or bad and enjoy the rest of your year.

Film Review: ‘[Detroit]’!!

by Janet White on Jul 29th, 2017

Hello Everyone, Janet W.  here…

Fifty years ago (to the day I screened Detroit), atrocities occurred in Detroit, Michigan. July 25, 1967 has been a day of woe for generations past and will be for those to come. Effectively capturing the events of this time, Detroit offers a raw in-your-face journey into the debasement of human beings simply because of their color. Such actions led to outrage which brewed to boiling over due to criminal misconduct and murder performed by police officers escalated to several days of rioting and worse. Black people helping the crooked cops unlawfully abuse and imprison other black people. Read the rest of this entry »

There will be advance screenings of ‘The Martian‘, ‘High-Rise‘, ‘Green Room‘, and ‘The Keeping Room‘.

“This is a big year for genre cinema. We’re exceptionally proud to honor incredible filmmakers and welcome back some of Fantastic Fest’s favorites,” said Tim League, Fantastic Fest and Alamo Drafthouse CEO/Founder.

Sticking true to Fantastic Fest’s penchant for chaos and explosive events, they welcome Itchy-O to Austin for the first time. A blazing, 32-member aural assault from the darkest depths of Colorado, Itchy-O is a wholly immersive, musical experience on a massive scale. Said festival director Kristen Bell, “We cannot wait for them to unleash their percussive mayhem on our audience as hysteria has a welcome home at Fantastic Fest.”

See below for the full lineup of newly announced film titles for Fantastic Fest 2015. Final wave of titles to be announced shortly.

♫♪1,2 Freddy’s Coming For You…Again!!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Aug 6th, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

A_Nightmare_Elm_Street_nightmareaug

It’s not only makeup, hairstyle and fashion trends that undergo a huge upheaval and massive makeovers as the years progress, film has been doing the same thing since the first piece of celluloid lit up a white screen. Horror movies have a different spot as remakes in my eyes. I love seeing an old favorite re-vamped with newer technology and can’t wait to see what new twists, turns and unexpected scares the filmmakers have in store for the viewer. ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street‘ is back looking to scare the sleep out of a new generation.

Writer Tony Burgess’s (‘Pontypool‘, ‘Septic Man‘ and ‘Hellmouth‘) scripted the sci-fi horror ‘Ejecta‘ which directors Chad Archibald and Matt Wiele brought to terrifying, cinematic glory. For Wiele, this is his freshman directing effort, Archibald, however has several credits to his name including ‘Kill‘, ‘The Drownsman‘ and the upcoming ‘Bite‘. ‘Ejecta‘ was produced by Jesse Thomas Cook, John Geddes and Matt Wiele through their genre production company Foresight Features and will make it’s Blu-ray debut on August 18th, 2015 from Scream Factory, in partnership with IFC Midnight.

PicMonkey Collage12

Two great family film companies, Walden Media and Jim Henson Productions, are joining forces to produce, and develop an original story about a rather nasty subject, a pagan demon who punishes wicked children at Christmas. Did I mention he has horns and looks fifty shades of creepy? They’ve gone with the title ‘Happy Krampus!‘ so they’re going to make it a family-friendly project with a live-action production.

To Live and Die in L.A.’ from 1985 has a certain cult following that no doubt popped a pup tent when they heard the news that writer and director William Friedkin has worked a deal to bring the film to the small screen. Angelic Heel Once More…

Hold on tight, business is picking up. Just 24 hours after WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins defended his title against Dean Ambrose at Money in the Bank, the WWE rolled into Cleveland, OH for Raw! The WWE Universe had no idea what was in store for it as the night began and was left buzzing with electricity as the night ended. Let’s just say Battleground (which can be seen on the WWE Network FREE for new subscribers in the month of June. And just the low low price of $9.99 for the rest of us.) will live up to its name. What happened? Find Out Now!

Angelic Heel Once Again…

Tensions hit a boiling point in New Orleans, LA as the WWE presented the last RAW before the Money in the Bank pay per view (which can be seen on the WWE Network FREE for the month of June). The WWE World Heavyweight Champion’s frustrations continued as the Lunatic Fringe gallivanted all over Nawlins with the stolen title, Kevin Owens continued his crusade against the delusional John Cena, and much much more. Angelic Heel Returning Once Again…

The Raw after Payback was an insane evening that finally saw the WWE World Heavy Weight Champion get the appreciation and recognition that he deserved. Unfortunately, not everything went as planned, but as they say, The Authority always wins. The night was also filled with moments that shocked the WWE Universe and set the WWE Superstars on the road to the Elimination Chamber in less than two weeks. Did you miss it? Angelic Heel Once Again…

The word payback generally means getting someone who has wronged you to see the light and atone for their sins. WWE’s Payback (which could be seen on the WWE Network FREE for the month of May)  more than lived up to the stereotype of the word as the night was filled with retribution and wrongs made right. The power of positivity reigned supreme, false idols were torn down, and what was best for business prevailed. It was a night filled with high impact, hard hitting matches that more than showcased why the WWE Superstars are the best in the world. Did you miss it? No worries, I’ve got your back. I always do what’s best for business.

Top 10 Horribly Cheesy Scenes in Otherwise Decent Movies!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

DirtyDancing3-lg

I am not claiming that all of the following movies are cinematic works of art. Some of these films might be considered mediocre at best. However, they do all have one thing in common; all of them suffer from having that one scene that takes audiences out of the moment and makes them groan in disbelief.  This list includes movies that were meant to be taken seriously. So over-the-top comedies and machismo action flicks will not be found as they are created with the intent of being ridiculous.

Jana’s Best/Worst of 2014!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 15th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

It’s been a big year for the entertainment world. Netflix’s initial push to bring movie-theater worthy films straight to streaming customers and bypassing the big screen altogether set off a chain of deals that will take those fresh releases and push them directly into homes allowing us to bypass a $15.00 soda, but denying us the $20.00 popcorn you can only get at the theater. Then came the deluge of series and movies being made for exclusive run with everyone from Netflix, Amazon to Crackle and everything in between. Top that off with the huge breach of privacy Sony experienced. New releases were flooded onto P2P sharing sites and private emails from the film company’s big wigs that show us how the infrastructure of Sony really works, not to mention what those involved really think of some of their superstars.

Film Review: ‘Kill Your Darlings’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 14th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

 KYD

Over the past couple of years, we have had a string of films based on the Beat Poet generation that spawned writers and poets Allen Ginsberg, William Burroughs, and Jack Kerouac. Some have been documentaries, some have been narratives on their successful careers, but none have covered the in depth time period where all of these writers met in college and were part of a murder. First time feature filmmaker John Krokidas knocks it out of the park with his jazzy, drug induced opus that is called ‘Kill Your Darlings‘.

The Top 20 Vampire Movies Of All Time!!!

I love making lists. Grocery lists. Bucket lists. Holiday lists. Favorite movie lists. Favorite VAMPIRE movie lists. I bet that got your attention, didn’t it? This is MY list of the top 20 Vampire movies ever made. Why did I point out that it was MY list? Easy. So you read this knowing it wasn’t an Academy vote that got a movie on this list. No one paid me to promote their movie. However, I’m NOT against this, just to be clear. Why spend time putting movies in a list? Maybe it satisfies some Freudian lack of paternal affection I suffered as a child. But the real answer is, “Why wouldn’t I make a list as awesome as this?”

Hi, Bryan Here….

42-movie-poster

42‘, which is the answer to the ultimate question in the universe, is also that historic and legendary uniform number held by Jackie Robinson, the first African-American to play major league baseball.  Brian Helgeland’s biopic film on Robinson tells a polished and engaging version of the baseball hero that changed the nation. With phenomenal performances from Chadwick Boseman as Robinson himself, both fans of baseball and Robinson, along with a younger crowd who has never heard of the baseball player will eat this film up. The box office will draw some decent money, even if the director tries to head us over the head with what we are supposed to be feeling.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Tina Fey and Paul Rudd star in this rocky comedy from ‘American Pie‘ director Paul Weitz, which jumps between being a heartfelt drama and gross out comedy far too often. Based on the novel of the same name by Jean Hanff Korelitz and adapted to a screenplay by Karen Croner, ‘Admission‘ tells a tale on the ins and outs of being accepted into college, especially one of the most notable and best colleges in America. Even with top notch talent rounding out this little film, I only expect modern returns at the box office due to its subject matter.

Wreck-It Ralph‘ is one hell of a fun and entertaining movie. Not only will the little kids enjoy this, but adults will eat this up too.  Disney has done a a great job with their 3D animated comedy to start the holiday season.  The amazing voice cast, the video game references, the characters and storyline can all compete with the likes of any Pixar film.  Well, I guess you can get a phenomenal film when you have John Lasseter executive produce and Rich Moore direct.  Moore has directed tons of episodes of ‘The Simpsons’ and just about every episode of ‘Futurama’, so you know this will be a funny and intelligent film done right.

Blu-Ray/DVD Releases for the 3rd Week of October….

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 19th, 2010

Sorry, It’s a Little late today, but still on schedule.  There are some AWESOME releases this week.  Some that I have been waiting years for. Anyway – as usual – the pics and titles link over to AMAZON – where you can learn more about the film in question – and can purchase the item, which helps give a small donation to help keep this column going. Now – here we go…

Apocalypse Now: Full Disclosure Edition (Bluray)

During the Vietnam War, young U.S. Captain Willard is given the assignment to hunt down and kill one of his own: Colonel Kurtz who has apparently gone insane, murdered hundreds of innocent people, and constructed a strange kingdom for himself deep in the jungle. Willard and his crew embark on a surreal river journey to find Kurtz, meeting along the way a Lieutenant- Colonel who likes to watch surfing during live combat, and Playboy bunnies dropped in by helicopter to entertain rowdy troops.

This is one of the best films about war to date.  It has an all-star cast including: Robert Duvall, Marlon Brando, Martin Sheen, Dennis Hopper, and Francis Ford Coppola as director.  It is loaded with extras.  I highly recommend this.

Assault Girls (Bluray)

Now I do not know much about this movie, but the synopsis makes me want to buy this and watch it.  Could be a hell of a lot of chix-ploitation fun.

Plot Synopsis: When a video-game company creates an immersive gaming environment where players wage war against gigantic sand-dwelling monsters, three gorgeous gals armed to the teeth (Meisa Kuroki, Hinako Saeki and Rinko Kikuchi) accept the challenge and jump into the virtual desert. But as they blaze their way into the game’s higher levels, they face ever-more ferocious foes. Yoshikazu Fujiki also stars in this sci-fi action flick from director Mamoru Oshii.

That just sounds AWESOME.  Will be checking this out.

Moulin Rouge (Bluray)

I remember seeing this in the theatre when it was first released and I was in AWE at the set design and all the cool songs that were re-done for this movie.  This movie was just so beautiful to watch and I am glad it has finally received the HD treatment.  So enter this fantastic world where nothing is forbidden and everything is possible and purchase this movie.

Night of the Demons (2009 Remake)  (Bluray)

This is a remake of the 1980’s horror film about a group of college kids who summon a demon at a party and kills everyone.  This remake is basically the same thing.  A group of kids go to a Halloween party, only to have to face down a group of demons.  If you like Demon movies and tons of gore and boobies, then this is a must own.  I would also purchase the original movie as well.  Just in time for Halloween.

  • Writer/director commentary
  • Cast and crew interviews
  • Behind-the-scenes footage

Predators (Bluray)

A mercenary (Adrien Brody) reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they’ve been brought together on an alien planet… as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers—mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members—human “predators” that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

I remember anticipating this film and that Robert Rodriguez was a major producer on this.  This a re-vamp of the original film which starred Arnold, but instead of a Predator coming to Earth, humans go to the Predator planet.  Worth a look and a must have for the fans of the franchise.  I still miss VENTURA in his role.

Supplements

  • Commentary by producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimród Antal
  • Motion Comics: “Moments of Extraction” – Robert Rodriguez presents exclusive prequel vignettes voiced by the cast of Predators. Witness the secret adventures that turned our world’s most ruthless killers into the ultimate Predator prey (Isabelle, Mombasa, “Crucified”)

Psycho: 50th Anniversary Edition (Bluray)

Alfred Hitchock’s masterpiece, “Psycho” finally gets the HD treatment.  This is hands down one of the scariest films of all time.  They built a ride after this film.  This film still scares me and Anthony Perkins is BRILLIANT.

Norman Bates, whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. No one knows that better than Marion Crane (Janet Leigh), the ill-fated traveler whose journey ends in the notorious “shower scene.” First a private detective, then Marion’s sister (Ver Miles) searches for her, the horror and the suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed.

This is a must own for any collection.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: 35th Anniversary Edition (Bluray)

One of the greatest cult films of all time gets the HD treatment.  I remember seeing this film when I was about 10 years old and i was forever warped.  Excellent music and young stars such as: Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, and Meatloaf make this film what it is…..AMAZING.  They still today all over the country show midnight screenings of this film with audience participation where you can throw stuff at the screen and see actors act out the movie live in front of the screen in synch with the film.  Love this film.

‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ is an “erotic nightmare beyond any measure.” Relive Richard O’Brien’s sinfully twisted salute to horror, sci-fi, B-movies and rock music – A “sensual daydream to treasure forever” – starring Tim Curry (in his classic gender-bending performance), Barry Bostwick, and Oscar®-winner Susan Sarandon. Do the “Time Warp” and sing “Hot Patootie” with Meatloaf again…and again…and again. Pull up a slab and let the madness begin!

Seven Samurai: Criterion Collection (Bluray)

One of the greatest films of all time by Akira Kurosawa is about a Japanese farming village, constantly besieged and pillaged by an army of bandits, recruits seven independent samurai to defend it.  This is phenomenal and am very happy to purchase this title AGAIN to get it on BLURAY.  A MUST OWN.

TOP 133 FILMS OF THE LAST DECADE (#100 – #85)

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 4th, 2010

Here we are in the Top 100 films of the last decade.  There are some great titles on here.  Enjoy.  As usual, there is the movie title name along with the date it was released, a mini review/memory of the film and a link that takes you to AMAZON where you can purchase the flick for a great price.

100_ Signs – August 2, 2002

I really enjoyed this Alien film from M. Night.  Total Hitchcockian throughout.  That scene with the alien stuck in the pantry of and Mel Gibson tries to get a glimpse of it with the  reflection of a butcher knife is so tense.  If aliens do come to Earth, hopefully they are not hostile.  A very good solid alien film.  Very tense.

99_ Garden State – July 28, 2004

Zach Braff shows the world he is a very talented director, not just a comedic tv actor.  This film has tons of heart and soul in it.  You really feel for the characters. Nothing is forced and it moves along nicely.  Natalie Portman is so lovely in this film. The soundtrack is one of the best of the decade as well. Go Shins.  I wish more films were like this. I look forward to more directorial efforts from Braff.

98_ A Serious Man – October 2, 2009

The latest film from The Coen Bros.  A very dark comedy.  The story follows a Jewish man who has a family, a job, and everything else but respect.  Everyone shits on him.  I can say that if you are NOT jewish or you do not have any jewish friends then you most likely wont get a lot of the film, but this film is hilarious.  This is suppose to be the Coen Bros. Biopic piece about themselves growing up.  I can relate.  Pretty funny.  A must see.

97_ Dawn of the Dead – March 19, 2004

The only complaint I had about this film is that I wish it wasn’t called Dawn of the Dead, which tells people it is a remake of the Romero classic.  It is not, although same story line in a way, but no.  This zombie thriller is BALLS TO THE WALL awesome.  It has got some of the best deaths, chills, and survival scenarios ever.  The scene where they shoot zombies that look like famous people is priceless.  Love this film.  Go James Gunn and Zach Snyder.  Some of the best head shots in cinema history.

96_ Match Point – January 20, 2006

Another Woody Allen film.  This marks the first in a set of films that Woody filmed in England.  This certainly does not play out like a typical Woody Allen film.  It is not funny whatsoever.  It is a serious drama.  So well played out and acted and directed and written.  Everything really.  This film follows a young man who meets a girl from a wealthy family.  The family takes him in as one of their own, buying him and their daughter a house and getting him the job of a lifetime.  This guy has a long affair with the beautiful Scarlett Johanssen.  When our main character wants to break off the affair he does so by murder.  What a film.  A must see.

95_ Hard Candy – April 14, 2006

What a brutal film this was.  A young Ellen Paige is the star in this film.  I literally had the flop sweats when I saw this in the theatre because I was so tense.  Wheww.  Just thinking about it gives me shivers.  Tons of twists and turns in this film. I do not want to give anything away, but seriously….see this film.  It will make you sweat.

94_ Super Troopers – February 16, 2001

Broken Lizards first feature film hit the jackpot and changed our lives forever with the immediate cult icon Officer Rod Farva.  This film follows the Highway patrol team and their hilarious antics with civilians.  People still today quote this film and will for some time.  I remember laughing out loud in the theatre for fifteen minutes straight at the biker line.  If you like comedy, then get off your ass and see this film if you have not already.  You will love it.

93_ Best In Show – September 29, 2000

A wonderful mockumentary from Chris Guest about Dog Shows and the people who take their dogs there.  We all know these types of people.  Dog People.  And it is all sorts of funny to watch all of their worlds crumble.  Oh the nut rant is prime.  This is dry humor at its best and your gut will hurt from all the laughter throughout the film. Stellar performaces all around.  More please.

92_ Fahrenheit 9/11 – June 23, 2004

An amazing documentary about the 9/11 attacks and the events leading up to it and all the questions we had about it.  We just didn’t know the truth, but we do now, and it was not pretty.  Michael Moore was the first to show us the truth on this.  This documentary will anger you and make you laugh and cry.  This is what I think is the start of the fall of George W. Bush.  You see who he really is in this film.  Go M.M.

91_ Black Snake Moan – March 2, 2007

I really did enjoy this little film.  I believe this film was loosely based on the great blues legend R.L. Burnside’s life.  It definitely has the great music to back it up.  Sam Jackson plays a old genuine God Fearing man who comes across a beaten up tramp played by the gorgeous Christina Ricci and takes her in to his home to get her well.  She was left for dead.  She gets all better and Sam Jackson chains her to his heater and he aims to cure her of her wickedness and make her a better person.  It is really good.  See it.

90_ Grindhouse – April 6, 2007

Oh yes. Tarantino and Rodriguez pay homage to the 70’s grindhouse experience by making a double feature of badassery, exploitation, and violence.  An allstar cast in both films.  One film deals with zombies and the other film deals with a crazed killer in a kick ass car.  The soundtrack is out of this world.  If you want to get a group of your friends together and pound a ton of beer and eat tons of junk food, then put this double feature on and enjoy the hell out of it.  So much fun.  I look forward to another double feature in the future from these two brilliant filmmakers.  Thank you for giving me this pleasure.

88_ Thirst – July 31, 2009

A really fantastic Korean Vampire film from the director of OLDBOY.  I like this one so much for its way of showing you every aspect of being a vampire and the guilt it causes and your need to feed.  More vampire films like this.  This director is amazing.  Not too much gore but just enough.

87_ Burn After Reading – September 12, 2008

I loved this Coen Brothers comedy.  Not a lot of people did.  It grows on you.  It is a comedy dram about the US government.  Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, and John Malkovich.  If you liked Big Lebowski, you will like this film.  Tons of laughs.

86_ Night Watch – February 17, 2006

The first film in this Russion Horror trilogy.  This film is pretty epic and I believe is the biggest budget film Russia has ever done.  There are shape shifters, ghosts, murders, robots, monsters, vampires and much much more.  The visuals are stunning.  I highly recommend these films.  Classic Good vs. Evil here.

85_ Sin City – April 1, 2005

Finally the comic book of hardcore comes to the big screen.  I love these comics and the fact that Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino brought in Frank Miller to make this shows me just how brilliant they are in filmmaking.  Pretty much shot for shot and the same dialogue as the comic.  It is beautiful.  I love this modern Noir style.  Mickey Rourke as Marv is genius.  This is gruesome, funny and action packed.  Brittany Murphy does a stellar job in this too.  Cannot wait for the rest of the comics in comic book form.
