Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Solange-Main

We first reported that the ‘Drive‘ director was set to produce a string of horror remakes recently, with ‘Maniac Cop‘ being the first project. Now, Nicolas Winding Refn has announced the next film he will produce, but not direct, which is a remake of the old 1972 Italian film ‘What Have You Done To Solange?‘ Refn and his production company are partnering with Fulvio Lucisano, who produced the original film, and also produced 1965’s ‘Planet of the Vampires‘, which I reviewed HERE, and is very similar to ‘Alien‘ from Ridley Scott. Refn has been wanting to remake ‘Solange‘ for a while now, and after the Cannes screening of ‘Planet of the Vampires‘, Refn and Lucisano decided to move ahead with the project.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

We had the distinct honor to talk with the amazing director Nicolas Winding Refn and his wife Liv Corfixen in Austin, Tx at Fantastic Fest 2014. Refn is one of the advocates for the horror and crime genre and in addition to his great films, he can be seen on several bonus features of other Blu-rays talking about films. Refn directed ‘Valhalla Rising‘, ‘Bronson‘, and the recent films that starred Ryan Gosling which were ‘Drive‘ and ‘Only God Forgives‘. His new film, which was directed by his wife Liv is called ‘My Life‘ and chronicled the production of ‘Only God Forgives‘. It’s a great documentary. Here we discuss what went into that production, some of his previous projects and others that became unrealized, and of course some of their favorite scenes in film. Enjoy.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

cdn.indiewire

Nicolas Winding Refn is one of my favorite directors. The Danish born director has quite the resume. He is mostly known for making the hit film ‘Drive‘ with Ryan Gosling, but has also made ‘Valhalla Rising‘, ‘Bronson‘, and the recent ‘Only God Forgives‘, which also s tarred Gosling. Refn is also a big advocate for the cult horror film genre. He can be seen on numerous Blu-ray extras, discussing his love for that particular brand of cinema. Not only is he a great director, but he is also a big fan of movies.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The director of ‘Bronson’ and ‘Drive’ is in talks with DreamWorks to direct ‘Button Man: The Killing Game’ according to Deadline.  ‘Button Man: The Killing Game’ is a graphic novel by John Wagner and Arthur Ranson in which the story revolves around Harry Exton, a hired gun who’s offered a fortune to take part in a game organized by bored millionaires that sets trained killers against one another in a fight to the death. The fat cats bet on the proceedings, and when Exton gets disgusted and opts out, his only exit strategy might be to off the millionaires funding the competition.

Favorite Films of 2016!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 30th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

blake-lively-and-the-shark-the-shallows-39717776-1000-544

The end of 2016 is here, which means everyone’s Top 10 list is out already or getting ready to be released. I’m not going to do a Top 10 in order again this year, because there are just so many amazing films I feel so passionate about, that it is difficult to rank them. If you think this is a weak year of films, then you are surely mistaken. I will say that most of the big budget blockbusters this year were duds, but the indie films were nothing short of amazing. So below is the list of films that I truly loved this year. These films will be ones that I watch over and over again, and you should to. I watched 254 films that were released this year (Yes, I counted) and survived to tell the tale. As always, please let me know if any of your favorite films made my list. Enjoy!

You can CLICK the titles of each movie where you can purchase the Blu-rays too. Hooray!

Film Review: ‘The Neon Demon’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 21st, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Nicolas Winding Refn has given us some fairly memorable images on the big screen over the years. ‘Drive‘ might be his most successful and most main stream film to date. That film was critically acclaimed and praised by almost everyone. He followed that movie up with ‘Only God Forgives‘ and it didn’t do so well, both financially and critically. Refn and his wife even made a documentary about it, but Refn left a sour taste on the film community, at least for a little while. This might have been a blessing in disguise though, as Refn has decided to completely do his own thing from now on.

‘Maniac Cop’ Getting the Remake Treatment!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

201407_ban7_fv_maniac4_hero_970

In news that I never thought I’d get to write, ‘Drive‘ director Nicolas Winding Refn and his production company Space Rocket Nation, has teamed up with Vendian Entertainment and Wild Bunch to produce and distribute a number genre and edgy films for new filmmakers. The first film to be put on the spotlight will be a remake of ‘Maniac Cop‘. I know, I laughed at first, then threw my fist in the air with excitement.

Film Review: ‘The Equalizer’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Denzel Washington

This remake of an 80s television show about a retired CIA operative who now helps regular people in trouble has been in the works for quite some time. I believe it was always going to star the impressive Denzel Washington, but a few directors have been in and out of the director’s chair including Nicolas Winding Refn (‘Drive‘). He bowed out a while ago and the studio asked Antoine Fuqua to helm the project, which he accepted. Fuqua worked with Washington on the Oscar winning film ‘Training Day‘, which also earned Washington an acting Oscar.

Film Review: ‘Only God Forgives’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 17th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

Only-God-Forgives-Red-Band-Trailer-You-Wanna-Fight

I’ll be the first to admit that Nicolas Winding Refn’s movie ‘Drive‘, starring Ryan Gosling was one of my favorite films of that year. It was original, fresh, had a killer soundtrack, and had a wonderful and colorful cast of characters. I own the Blu-ray, soundtrack, and even stickers from the movie. Needless to say, when I heard that Refn was making another film in the same vein called ‘Only God Forgives‘, I was excited with pure joy and couldn’t wait to see it. Not only was it going to star Ryan Gosling and amp up the violence and suspenseful situations to eleven, but it was going to take place in Thailand and pack enough blood for two films. Man, was I dead-wrong about this film and sorely disappointed.

Hi Bryan Here…..

The 84th annual Academy Award nominations are in.  There are a couple of surprises that I was very happy to see on here and tons of disappointment.  It looks like the Academy went with 9 Best Picture noms this year rather than 10.  They also only went with 3 noms for make up which I can think of others, and only two for original song.  Was this a time issue, so that the event would be over on time for once rather than have all 5 songs being sung?  I don’t like it, but that’s how it is this year.  Below you will see each category with my thoughts.  Enjoy.

FedMex Here….

If you like to be taken completely off guard by a film when you go into it, you might want to stop reading now.  I’ll try to stay away from  giving too much away, but Drive was an experience that I was completely unprepared for, and I’m much happier that I came in knowing nothing before watching this.  Let’s see what happened…

Movie Quotes

Dr. Evil:
You know, I have one simple request. And that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! Now evidently my cycloptic colleague informs me that that cannot be done. Ah, would you remind me what I pay you people for, honestly? Throw me a bone here! What do we have?
Number Two:
Sea Bass.
Dr. Evil:
[pause] Right.
Number Two:
They're mutated sea bass.
Dr. Evil:
Are they ill tempered?
Number Two:
Absolutely.
Dr. Evil:
Oh well, that's a start.
