Michael Keaton Joins Spy Thriller ‘American Assassin’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
If there’s one thing the film world needs, it’s more spy movies! How about adapting Vince Flynn’s 14-best-selling novel series, ‘American Assassin‘? OK, so I didn’t think of it first, CBS Films and Lionsgate did because that’s the next film coming down the action pipeline. Not only that, but they’ve just brought in an A-lister that was part of not one, but two films that won the Best Film category for an Oscar for the last two years – Michael Keaton.
Film Review: ‘Brooklyn’!
Rebecca S., Here…
“Brooklyn” is a sweet look at life in a 1950’s version of the borough for a young Irish immigrant. Saoirse Ronan plays Eilis, a naïve girl sent to America to find a better future and a life away from her small town with her devoted sister, played by Fiona Glascott. While that is the over-all story being told here, it is also a story of a girl who meets boy. The movie itself is gorgeous and every location feels authentic, however the film drags in certain places, making it easy for the mind to wander at times.
Rundown of Winner From 67th Annual Emmy Awards!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
In case you missed it last night, we’ve got a run-down of the big winners from the 67th Annual Emmy Awards. Now when you’re standing around the water cooler this morning, you can sound like you watched the whole thing, even if you watched WWE’s Night of Champions, instead. You missed that, too? We’ve got you covered there, as well, just click here. We’re there for you, like ‘Friends‘, only we’re the nerdy, geeky and more awesome version.
Film Review: ‘Learning to Drive’!
Janet W., Here…
Learning to Drive opens at the completion of driving instruction with Darwan Singh Tur (Sir Ben Kingsley) speaking words of wisdom and reality to his student driver. Next we are guided through a typical day of a hardworking Indian in America. Two jobs and a house full of relatives/friends from his village, Darwan is a stereotype of who Indians are. I do not like stereotypes whether factual or not. People are curvy (multi-faceted) and should not be pressed into any particular box/label. However, in Learning to Drive, I see the Indian stereotype treated with honor and maybe even understanding. I do not follow the Sikh religion nor do I understand it, but the worship was portrayed with reverence.
Film Review: ‘Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet’!!
Paul N., Here…
Cartoons are often split into two categories: those for children, and those for adults. On the one hand, you have Disney classics, and on the other you have most anime. The two types have very distinct target demographics, and filmmakers gear their films to appeal to these specifics. On very rare occasion, you’ll get a film like Disney’s Fantasia that combines the two so beautifully that it appeals to both demographics. Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, attempts this same feat with admirable gusto, falling just short of success.
Malin Akerman Joins Cast For Showtime’s Pilot Series ‘Billions’!!!
Hey guys, Jana here,
All networks are getting to work on casting their pilot choices and Showtime follows suit with a new announcement involving the lineup of ‘Billions‘. The hopeful series is taking an in-depth look at the high finance world and the eventual sparring of two of its heavyweights, U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades and the hedge fund king Bobby “Axe” Axelrod.
WTF: Sony Cancels Release of ‘The Interview’!!
Hi everyone, Bryan Here….
I wish I had better news to write here, but unfortunately I don’t. For the past eight months or so, we here at Boomstick and across the nation, have all been excited and looking forward to seeing a new film called ‘The Interview‘ that stars Seth Rogen and James Franco. We’ve posted trailers, posters, and articles related to the film, which follows Rogen and Franco playing versions of themselves who are tasked with heading to North Korea and taking out the supreme leader Kim Jong-Un.

Here Are the 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Nominations!!!
Hi, Bryan Here…
The 65th annual Emmy nominations were announced early this morning, and some well deserved shows were mentioned. Notably, ‘House of Cards‘ and ‘Arrested Development‘ were nominated, making Netflix a heavy hand this year at the awards. ‘Mad Men’, ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Homeland’ were also nominated. Below is the partial list of nominations. Let us know if you think your favorite show was snubbed this year.
’24’ Is Back From The Dead!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Since we all can’t stop talking about Jack Bauer and the old hit series ‘24‘, Fox has heard our cries and is looking to bring back the super-tense series ‘24‘ back to television for an all-new season. This time it will be a limited series, most likely meaning only several episodes. And yes, Kiefer Sutherland who plays Jack Bauer on the show is in talks to reprise his iconic role.
Jason Lee Lands New TV Series!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Jason Lee is set to play the lead in a new series for CBS called ‘Second Sight‘, which is a drama from Michael Cuesta and Carol Mendelsohn. This new series is actually based on a British series from the year 2000 and is described as a gothic psychological thriller. ‘Second Sight‘ follows a guy named Tanner (Lee), a detective with the New Orleans police department with a unique gift. He has an ocular disorder that causes him to have horrific hallucinations, which might actually help him in his cases.
‘Argo’, ‘Django Unchained’, and HBO’s ‘Girls’ Win Big At Golden Globes!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
The Golden Globes were last night and Tina Fey and Amy Poehler killed it. They were amazing. Even former president Bill Clinton showed up to talk about Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln‘. Even though I really liked the film ‘Argo‘, I was shocked when it won best film and director for Ben Affleck. I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year. I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay. Just my opinion. Below are the full results from last night’s show.
Here Are the Nominations for the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage. I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter. After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories. There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.
Sean Bean Set To Star in TNT’s ‘Legends’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
So, it looks like Sean Bean will meet his untimely demise next in TNT‘s ‘Legends‘. Sean Bean has officially replaced Brendan Fraser in the new series from ‘Homeland‘ producer Howard Gordon. ‘Legends‘ was originally purchased by NBC, but later arrived at TNT, and centers on a deep cover operative agent spy Martin Odum (Bean) who has an uncanny ability to transform himself into a different person for each job. But his real identity becomes a mystery as a stranger suggests that he isn’t who he thinks he is.
Opera Review: ‘Aida’
Claire S. Here….
The Dallas Opera’s production of Aida was well-staged, the arias were well-sung, the choreography was well-danced, and yet despite these technical proficiencies, I was emotionally unmoved by the production as a whole. Although this opera has always been loved for its grand pageantry, the true essence of the story lies in the intimate relationships between the three main characters. Unfortunately, here, the three leads Latonia Moore (Aida), Nadia Krasteva (Amneris), and Antonello Palombi (Radames) had little chemistry on Wednesday night, and their lack of intimacy created a hollowness that plagued the entire performance.
Hitchcock’s ‘Rear Window’ is Headed to Broadway!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
You read that right, folks. ‘Rear Window‘ , the Hitchcock classic will become a stage version on Broadway. Director Jay Russell and producer Charlie Lyons have teamed up with actor Tim Guinee (Homeland) to develop the project. Lyons and Russell have worked together before on ‘The Water Horse‘ and ‘Ladder 49‘.
2012 Emmy Award Winners!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Below is the list of the winners for the 2012 Prime-Time Emmy Award Winners. I don’t see how ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Two and Half Men’ win anything. They shouldn’t win any kind of award when they go up against shows like ‘Mad Men’, ‘Game of Thrones’, and ‘Breaking Bad’. The Emmy judges need to be fired and never allowed to pick winners ever again. However, much congratulations to ‘Homeland’, ‘Downton Abbey’, Aaron Paul, ‘Veep’, and ‘American Horror Story’

Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and James Franco Team Up For Action Film!!!
Hi, Bryan Here…
James Franco will join Jason Statham for a film called ‘Homefront’. It will be directed by Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury) and was written by Stallone. Stallone and Statham star in both ‘Exependable’ films. Stallone will also be producing the film. Franco knows no bounds and will be in every movie and genre. I like that about him.
Take a Look at the Toronto International Film Festival Slate!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
The Toronto Film Festival is coming up quickly and it looks like it is going to be one for the books. ‘Looper’ is going to open up the festival with several other centerpiece films that strike my fancy. Two of them include Joss Whedon’s Shakespeare film ‘Much Ado About Nothing’, and Terrence Malick’s new film, ‘To The Wonder’. Can’t wait. Below is the official press release. Who’s going? Piers Handling, CEO and Director of TIFF, and Cameron Bailey, Artistic Director of the Toronto International Film Festival, made the first announcement of films to premiere at the 37th Toronto International Film Festival. Films announced include titles in the Galas and Special Presentations programmes. The announced films include 17 Galas and 45 Special Presentations, including 38 world premieres.

‘The Princess Bride: 25th Anniversary Edition’ Blu-ray Announced and Detailed!!!
Hi, Bryan Here…
“As you wish.” Looks like we will all have to be shelling out money again for the 25th anniversary edition of ‘The Princess Bride’. From celebrated director Rob Reiner (‘The Bucket List’) and Oscar®-winning screenwriter William Goldman (‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’) comes “an enchanting fantasy” (Time) filled with adventure, romance and plenty of “good-hearted fun” (Roger Ebert). Featuring a spectacular cast that includes Robin Wright (‘Forrest Gump’), Cary Elwes (‘No Strings Attached’), Mandy Patinkin (‘Homeland’) and Billy Crystal (‘Tooth Fairy’), this wonderful fairy tale about a Princess named Buttercup and her beloved is “a real dream of a movie” (People).

Lucy Liu Will Play Watson In CBS’ Modern Sherlock Holmes Pilot ‘Elementary’!!!
Hi, Bryan Here….
Here is an interesting bit of news. Lucy Liu, who we all know is a beautiful female, will be taking on the role of Watson in a new Sherlock Holmes pilot for CBS. This is a modern day telling of the classic Sir Arthur Connan Doyle novel and her character name will be Joan Watson.
