by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 2nd, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

1424717310_oscar-winners-467

Podcast #55 is finally here, and it was a fun-as-hell show.  We did a remote podcast from the deep dark dungeons of the ‘Angelika Film Center’ this week, where we had a full house. Our own Gwen Reyes from FreshFictionTv was here along with Susan Kamyab from ThisChixFlix, Gadi Elkon from SeligFilmNews, Adam Conway from the Angelika Film Center , Andrew Conway, and myself. We discuss a few films that were released in theaters, our reactions and thoughts on the Oscars, and discussed the 2001 film ‘Series 7‘, which we highly recommend. We also Re-Cast the film if it were made today. It got crazy. And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page and TWITTER page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. And don’t forget to visit iTunes and Stitcher to subscribe to our podcast. Enjoy the show and see you next week! Thank you for listening.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

3632_5

It’s 2015. A new year, and our first Podcast of 2015, which makes this Podcast #51. It’s been an excellent ride so far. For our 51st podcast, we were all sober and bright eyed to discuss Award season, meaning the recent Golden Globe winners and the recently announced Oscar nominations. We dive into each category, discussing snubs, surprises, deserved wins, and much much more. After the awards business, we discuss the 1990 film ‘Tremors‘ in a new segment we call “What If”, where we give you some fun trivia about the film and give a scenario of ‘What If’ ‘Tremors’ would have had different actors, a different rating, or a different director. It was a lot of fun.  We had Susan Kamyab from This Chix Flix , Adam Conway from Angelika Film Center, and Andrew Conway. It was a lot of fun to say the least. And please let us know what you think by going to our FACEBOOK page and TWITTER page, which you should visit to catch up on all the latest information. by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 16th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here….

The 85th Academy Awards® will air live on Oscar® Sunday, February 24, 2013.

Well the Oscar nominations are in, which you can see by CLICKING HERE. There were some great nominees this year, but tons of stuff got snubbed. I can’t believe some of the misfires this year. There are tons of films and people that should have received a nomination. Here are some that got snubbed in my opinion.

Well folks, Oscar season is upon us today.  OK, so it’s still pretty far out, but how can we not be thinking about it already?  Especially when in this last year, only one film can truly be deemed worthy enough to win the coveted Best Picture award.  I know you’re all thinking it but are too afraid to say it, so I’ll do it for you.

It’s never too early to be talking Academy Awards Nominations. One of the categories that sometimes gets a bit overlooked is the Animated Feature Film category. This is one of the most important areas in my household as there are 3 children that drag me to see each and every, sometimes, pieces of animated crap. In order to be eligible for entry into the category, there are a few criteria that need to be met. Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical release requirements and comply with all of the category’s other qualifying rules before they can advance in the voting process.

Seth MacFarlane Will Host the Oscars!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Oct 1st, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

The creator of Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show will host the 85th Oscars.  That’s right folks, Seth MacFarlane, the director of the recent film ‘Ted’ will assume hosting duties.  I wonder if this is a ploy to get a younger audience to watch the Oscars, a ploy the  Academy has been trying to do for many years.  Remember that horror montage they did a few years ago at the Oscars, which failed miserably?  Or maybe, they love MacFarlane’s hosting duties on Comedy Central’s Roasts?  Which ever the reason, I expect some inappropriate and funny humor at the Oscars.

My favorite stand up comedian of all time is forever Steve Martin.  His bits still make me laugh till this day as if I were hearing them  for the first time all over again.  I laugh so hard I hurt each time I listen to his recordings.  Not to mention his film career, but The Jerk, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Three Amigos are amongst the funniest films ever made.  So while Steve has hosted the Oscars numerous times and hosted SNL numerous times, Mr. Martin gives his long time friend Eddie Murphy some helpful advice on hosting the Oscars.  Enjoy.

Dan’s 2018 Oscar Picks!

Blu-ray Review: The Glass Castle!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 11th, 2017

THE FILM

You probably have heard the name Jeannette Walls. She is a journalist that was known for her Gossip column for MSNBC, but she is now known world-wide for her amazing novel ‘The Glass Castle‘, which was a memoir about her life growing up with her dysfunctional family. Her novel stayed on the Best Seller list for 261 weeks. If you think about that’s about four years and yes, it’s that good. Of course, Hollywood made a movie about it, which was directed by the amazing Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12) and starred Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts.

Paul Thomas Anderson and Daniel Day Lewis are back at it again with a new film called ‘Phantom Thread‘, which is set to release on Christmas later this year. I’m quite sure the film, along with both Lewis and Anderson will be nominated for all the Oscars. Of course, Anderson brought us ‘Boogie Nights‘ all those years ago and has continued to bring us amazing films over the years. He even teamed with Daniel Day Lewis with ‘There Will Be Blood‘, which is still talked about today, milkshakes and all.

Favorite Movie Scene of the Day #5!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 27th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

baseball-game-ofotcn

Was Randle McMurphy a hero or an anti-hero. It’s a fine line for sure, but I’d like to think R.P. McMurphy was a good guy deep down, even though he was a bit off-kilter. In fact, it’s been stated and written down many times before that his arch rival Nurse Ratched is one of the most horrific villains in movie history. McMurphy, played by a 30-something Jack Nicholson is an amazing character. He’s passionate, creative, fun, spontaneous, and has no filter with what he thinks or says. Some would say he is a genius in this regard. Hell, he did convince a ton of people that himself and the rest of the psychiatric patients were indeed famous professors and doctors to the townsfolk as they stole a boat and went sailing.

So, Snatched won’t be winning any Oscars, but if you go in with incredibly low expectations, you can’t be that let down. It has some pretty funny parts, it has some first class actors (Amy Schumer is not one of them), and at the end of the day it’s a film about how much you need your mom and we can generally all get on board with that.

Film Review: ‘Beauty and the Beast’ (2017)!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-03-06 at 12.22.19 PM

While Disney is busy making ‘Marvel‘ movies and new ‘Star Wars‘ films, they are finding it difficult to make original films these days, which is why they are taking their back catalogue of animated movies and remaking them in the live-action format. We’ve seen it with ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘Cinderella’, and the recent ‘Snow White’ films. Disney has no plans on stopping either, as with the release of ‘Beauty and the Beast‘ and their upcoming ‘Lion King’ live action remake. After watching this new version of ‘Beauty and the Beast‘, I don’t have high hopes for future live action Disney films whatsoever.

When Ben Affleck isn’t making the next Boston crime movie or saying “Yes” to a cameo role in Kevin Smith’s latest direct-to-video film, he’s reading comic books with Matt Damon and deciding on which next Hollywood starlet to take out for a steak dinner and never call again. The guy is a badass in every sense of the word. There’s nothing he can’t do. I’m just surprised he doesn’t have an EGOT yet. You can say a lot of things about Affleck, but you can’t say he doesn’t know when to say “no”. Hi everyone, Bryan here….

the-oscars-thumbnail

The 89th Oscars were announced today. These are supposed to be the Best Achievements in Filmmaking on all levels. However, year after year, The Academy and “their infinite wisdom” choose to pick dull films that should never be nominated. In fact, I bet you could go through most of the Winners of each year and realize you only watched that film or performance once and never thought about it again. At least The Academy had a good bit of diversity this year, but other than that – these Oscar nominations are boring, dull, and made me go to sleep just watching the equally not-fun announcement telecast.

Short films have always held a special place in my heart, because I believe that short films pave the way for amazing talented filmmakers to showcase their work on small budgets to the masses. Sometimes, these filmmakers and their short films move ahead to become feature length films and win Oscars, thus setting the stage for original and fresh filmmaking. It’s a great way to seek out new talent in hopes for a very promising future for film in general in the most unlikely places.

Film Review: ‘Ben-Hur’!!

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

Ben-Hur - JH & MF

Family goes deeper than the bond of blood. Some friends can be far closer than biological family. Ben-Hur is the story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston) and Messala Severus (Toby Kebbell), brothers by adoption and inseparable until ambition drives its wedge. Separate status, Prince of Israel vs. orphan, and respect leads to essentially war.

Film Review: ‘The BFG’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

I’m just thankful that Steven Spielberg is not doing awful period pieces like his last films, including ‘Lincoln‘, ‘War Horse‘, and ‘Bridge of Spies‘. Yes, those films won Oscars, but I’m willing to bet you’ve only seen the once and will never see them again. I’m thankful and excited that Spielberg has returned, at least for a few films into his magical world of sci-fi, which he excels at. This time around, Spielberg is tackling the children’s story of ‘The BFG‘ or ‘Big Friendly Giant’, by the great author Roald Dahl (‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘, ‘Matilda‘, ‘James and the Giant Peach‘, and ‘The Witches‘).

One that is doing that in recent memory is ‘Star Trek‘. CBS is planning to give us another incarnation of that beloved franchise that began in 1966 and has occasionally sprouted a new series while clinging to the rules and locations of the past. by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 6th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE FILM

Another year, another ‘Rocky‘ movie. Some of you might be saying, “When is enough, enough?” More times than not, you might be right with any string of sequels that goes back the third installment, particularly with the ‘Rocky‘ franchise. Sure, the first ‘Rocky‘ film from 1976 was spectacular, and arguably one of the better movies ever made. It even won a ton of Oscars that year, including Best Picture. ‘Rocky II‘ came shortly after, which was still excellent, but starting with ‘Rocky III‘, things got silly and the films lost some focus. Still, audiences world wide packed theater houses to see the Italian Stallion (Sylvester Stallone) underdog his way up to the top, never quitting and giving his best. It’s a great message.

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 26th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

91uy2gSHtrL._SL1500_

THE FILM

Music biopics are one of my favorite genres of film. I love seeing a musical artist or band portrayed on screen and their rise to fame, complete with how they came up with their platinum hits, warts and all. As of lately, we haven’t seen a ton of these biopics with the exception of the excellent ‘Love & Mercy‘ about Beach Boys member Brian Wilson. Most of the biopics usually focus on one person or a band and go up until they hit it big, but that’s not the case with ‘Straight Outta Compton‘, which is more of a bio-epic than a biopic. Instead of following one person, the film follows three main characters with a treasure trove of other superstar artists.

Film Review: ‘Son of Saul’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

SonofSaulCannes

I’ve become quite a connoisseur of holocaust films over the years. Being Jewish has connected me in a deeper way than most people to these types of films, as I had family survive and killed during that immensely tragic time. From films like ‘The Sorrow and the Pity‘ to ‘Schindler’s List‘ to even ‘Inglorious Basterds‘ and the ten hour documentary ‘Shoah‘, I’ve seen a ton of films that have dealt with the holocaust on all levels. This particular film however, does something new, which I’ve never seen before. It’s called ‘Son of Saul‘ and is just as rough, depressing, and sad as you might come to expect from a holocaust movie.

Film Review: ‘Creed’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 24th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here….

Creed-Movie-Rocky-Trailer

Chris Rock Steps Up To Host 88th Academy Awards!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Oct 21st, 2015

Hey guys, Jana here,

The 77th Annual Academy Awards - Photo Room

Have the Oscars lost a little of their glittery oomph that make it a night of royalty for Hollywood’s best and brightest? Maybe. One year it will be utterly entertaining, original and exciting, the next it feels forced, stale, boring and becomes the night that NEVER ends early enough. I’m sure there is a formula for success and the host is key. Hoping to have figured out that recipe, producers David Hill and Reginald Hudlin have asked Chris Rock back to host the 88th Academy Awards.

Film Review: ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

4437523-who-do-you-think-will-die-in-avengers-age-of-ultron_0

To basically start out the summer of 2015 with a big bang, comes the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel’s 2012’s ‘Avengers‘ film, which is titled ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘. It’s been a long time coming too. Ever since 2008, when we saw Robert Downey Jr. put on the Iron Man suit for the first time, we all knew Marvel Entertainment had a huge franchise on their hands, as they teased a big film called ‘The Avengers‘, which put a lot of our favorite superheroes together to fight evil. After several solo movies with the likes of Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man, we finally got an ‘Avengers‘ movie in 2012, which made over $1 billion for Marvel and Disney, and was met with much praise and critical success. It was because of this, that Marvel has announced tons of superhero films through the year 2019 that will play into their overall story arc they have been building since 2008. We’ve all been anxiously awaiting this sequel for quite some time now, with tons of posters and trailers that have more than elevated our calm levels with excitement. Now the time is finally here for another hefty dose of ‘Avengers‘ with each superhero returning along with Joss Whedon directing.

THE FILM

We are at the end of this ‘Hobbit‘ trilogy with ‘The Battle of the Five Armies‘. The last three years seem to have gone by fairly fast. It seems like yesterday when I was writing about Warner Bros. heading back to Middle Earth with the ‘Hobbit‘. I was super stoked about it, because I was such a huge fan of the ‘Lord of the Rings‘ trilogy. I think I saw each of those films five times in the theater, owned each version that came out on DVD and Blu-ray, and went back to see them when they were re-released. I just can’t get enough of the ‘LOTR‘ films. But shortly after the announcement that we were receiving a ‘Hobbit‘ film, things started going downhill.

Blu-Ray Releases for January 6th, 2014

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 6th, 2015

It’s been a long while since I’ve done a Blu-ray column for the site. Hell, it might be two years since the last Blu-ray release column was released here. But I figure since it’s 2015 and there aren’t any apocalyptic scenarios or a rat infestation in the house yet, so now must be as good a time as any to start this fun column back up. As usual in this article, you will get some info about the disc and the extras that come with the movie as well as a personal opinion about the movie and a picture-link to purchase the film over at AMAZON where you can save quite a bit of money, and it will give a small percentage kick back to this site so we can continue bringing you excellent stories and bizarre tales. So click on the pictures and start saving.

Film Review: ‘Foxcatcher’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 25th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Foxcatcher

Director Bennett Miller has chosen his four films wisely. Starting with ‘The Cruise‘ back in 1998, Miller has only three more films on his resume, including ‘Foxcatcher‘. The previous two were ‘Capote‘ was an Oscar winner as well as ‘Moneyball‘. Miller has an uncanny knack for telling compelling stories that are based on real life events and engaging the audience to not only be entertained, but to think and discuss these characters and sometimes real people’s motives in what they did in their particular story. You can add to that, Miller’s success in getting his actors to win Oscars almost across the board, and this very dark and creepy film ‘Foxcatcher‘ is no different.

TV has been mining their company film vaults for movies that will lend themselves easily adaptable for long-term series fare. by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 16th, 2014

James Bond lovers, get ready for some good news! Not only is the 24th film in the series beginning filming on December 6. Daniel Craig isn’t only under contract for the 24th film, but the 25th film as well. There is a story arc that will connect the two films in a way that has only been done one time before on any of the Bond films. ‘Casino Royale‘ and ‘Quantum Solace‘ are the other two films that had a direct impact on the next one and is basically set up as a sequel to the first film. This film will also NOT be based on any of the Ian Fleming books, nor any of the other novels that different writers have given the literary world.

Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks Teaming Up Again!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Apr 22nd, 2014

Hello, Jana here,

09-steven-spielberg-tom-hanks-1

I’m like any other film-lover and I have favorite directors that I will religiously watch anything they turn out. I love the films of Joss Whedon, Cameron Crowe, Quentin Tarantino and Steven Spielberg among others. Spielberg took a bite out of fame with one of my absolute favorite movies of all-time, ‘Jaws‘ in 1975. Yes, another thing I love is a pun, no matter how bad it can be. Spielberg has far too many epic films to count without devoting a whole article to the greatness that is Spielberg. Some of the highlights are ‘E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial‘, the ‘Indiana Jones‘ films, ‘Schindler’s List‘…and on and on and on.

Hi, Bryan Here…

content_Marlon-Wayans-with-the-Creepy-Doll-in-a-haunted-house-2

And we are back one year later with a sequel to Marlon Wayans‘ ‘A Haunted House 2‘, which is the funniest film of the year so far. Like the first movie, Wayans and crew parody the ‘Paranormal Activity‘ films along with some of the horror flicks that were released last year including ‘Sinister‘, ‘The Conjuring‘, and ‘Insidious 2‘. For those of you who missed the first outing, don’t worry, yo won’t need to catch up, but I suggest you do as it’s as funny as this sequel. After ‘Scary Movie‘ and Wayans parted ways (there is a jab at that issue in this movie), the comedic icon took a different approach with this new franchise.

Film Review: ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

grandbudapesthotel-2

There are so many filmmakers out there that have given us amazing and iconic movies. From  Steven Spielberg to Stanley Kubrick and from John Hughes to Danny Boyle, we have laughed, cried, and felt every perk on the emotion scale while watching movies through the years. However, some of our favorite filmmakers have lost their creative eye and ability to make quality films, while their movies earlier in their career won Oscars and pushed these directors to super stardom, but later in their career, their films have us questioning their talent while their films are met with very negative reviews across the board. It’s truly a sad day when this happens, and unfortunately it happens more often then I’d like to admit.

Bryan’s Top 15 Movie List of 2013!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 28th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here…

2013-best

And here we are, at the very end of 2013. What a year for movies. This was an amazing year for film. There were so many great independent films, documentaries, and movies that were just highly entertaining, that I’ve watched them more than five times already. As usual, as long as I’ve been doing this, my Top Movie list of the year is very different from most everyone else that has made a list. I don’t know why – well I do know, because I’m twisted and crazy. But how I base my list is a variety of factors, not ones that the Oscars base their opinions on, but rather a more humble and fun variety of factors. For example, did this movie make me stand up and slow clap, or did it make me slap the person next to me and yell ‘THAT WAS AWESOME’! It’s those kind of things. So without further delay, I present to you my TOP 15 list for 2013. Let me know if you disagree or agree, love or hate, or just want to say hi. Enjoy.

Bryan’s Film Review: ‘American Hustle’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 20th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

new-images-from-the-hobbit-american-hustle-and-the-monuments-men-142354-a-1375953418-470-75

Formally titled ‘American Bullshit‘, director David O. Russell has generated a lot of buzz for this film over the last few months. Coming off his Oscars for ‘Silver Linings Playbook‘ and ‘The Fighter‘, you might think ‘American Hustle‘ might be on par with his previous two films. While this movie is indeed great, it lacks any sort of depth or meaning that  Russell has embraced in his previous efforts. But what he lacks in depth and meaning, he makes up ten fold in acting, characters, and insanity. I have no doubt that this 1970’s comedy con-artist film will wow audiences with its comedy and sex appeal, but don’t expect a “think piece” here. With tons of other choices this holiday season, it’s difficult to say how this will do at the box office, but with an A-List cast and the amount of hype this has, I imagine decent returns.

James Franco’s Next Project Involves Charles Manson!!!

James Franco will do just about anything in life.  It’s insane to think about.  I mean, this year he has a few films on the table.  One being the epic Sam Raimi directed ‘Oz the Great and Powerful‘, which will cater to everyone.  But then he has a few gay and or porn related films on the chopping block too, which are ‘Kink‘, ‘Lovelace‘, and ‘Interior Leather Bar‘. Let’s not forget the film ‘Spring Breakers‘, where he plays a drugdealing killer named Alien.  Oh yeah, and he is on a daytime soap opera too when he is not hosting the Oscars or winning awards, or going to school, or acting in pot smoking comedies with his friends.  The guy is an all around huge talent.  It’s very impressive.

I was happy to see ‘Django Unchained‘ win for best supporting actor for Christoph Waltz and screenplay for Tarantino. If this is any pre-cursor to the Oscars, I’d be completely let down if ‘Argo‘ takes it all.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great film, but not the best film of the year.  I expect it to and want it to win the best adapted screenplay.  Just my opinion.  Below are the full results from last night’s show.

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Beasts of the Southern Wild’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 3rd, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

beasts-of-the-southern-wild-blu-ray

Beasts of the Southern Wild is no doubt in my top-10 list for best films of 2012.  I know most of you haven’t heard of this film, but rest assured, once you see this film – and I urge you to see this film as fast you can- you will not forget it.  Beasts of the Southern Wild is Benh Zeithlin’s feature-length directorial debut, and even though he is only 29 years old, he has a poetic vision that is on par with Stanley Kubrick and Terrence Malick.  Zeithlin’s attention to detail allows the movie to successfully portray backwater Louisiana, magical realism, and a culture’s determination and strength. It is unlike anything I have seen.  Not only is this film entertaining, smart, and creative, it is also important in that it shows a very realistic portrayal of some of the poorest people in present day America as they struggle to survive disasters both man-made and natural.  This is what every indie filmmaker should strive for.

Hi, Bryan Here….

The nominations came in this morning and needless to say, I went into a fit of rage.  I mean I was so mad, I almost wrote a letter.  After going through the list of nominees, while some of the noms were well deserved, many were not, especially in the FILM categories.  There needs to be a serious uprooting process at the Golden Globes where everyone involved in voting needs to be replaced by others who know what they’re doing.

Here’s the International Trailer for ‘Hitchcock’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 12th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Here is the trailer for ‘Hitchcock’, not to be confused with the HBO film ‘The Girl’.  I have already seen ‘Hitchcock’, and I really think it will be nominated for several Oscars this coming year.  Anthony Hopkins was phenomenal as Hitch.  It was a great film and I can’t wait to see it again.  The movie takes place during the conception and premiere of Hitchcock’s ‘Psycho’.   Enjoy the trailer.

Film Review: ‘The Sessions’

by Gumbercules9000 on Nov 8th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

I know I’m a tad late with this review, but here it is and I highly recommend it.  Ben Lewin’s film, ‘The Sessions’ is a remarkable film.  The performances that John Hawkes and Helen Hunt give are worthy of any acting award, and Lewin’s ability to tell such a magical and funny tale is done perfectly.  Lewin mixes the art of sex with ethics, humor, religion, and love in a way that you want more.  ‘The Sessions’ is a must see.

Check Out The Trailer for Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 13th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

So we just finished the little Q&A with Steven Spielberg and Joseph Gordon-Levitt through Google+ where they answered people’s questions about the upcoming film.  And they also debuted the full trailer for the film, which looks AMAZING.  It will win Oscars.  The trailer is below and comes out November 9th, which is my birthday. Steven Spielberg directs Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

‘E.T.’ Will Return To The Big Screen!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 10th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

That’s right, folks.  ‘E.T.’ will be on the big screen again, thanks to Turner Classic Movies and Fathom Events.  Screening will take place October 3rd at 7:00pm at select theaters across the country.  This marks the 30th anniversary of the film and most likely is geared to promote the new blu-ray coming out as well.  This was one of the first films I saw in the theater and it just blew my mind.  It was one of the first times my Dad and I bonded over a film.  Needless to say it holds a special place in my heart.  Not only will you get a newly remastered version of the film, but also a journey of the making of ‘E.T.’.  And yes, folks, this is this original film, not the version with the extra scenes or the CGI’d walkie-talkie replacements.  Spielberg acknowledged his fuck-up long ago and apologized.  The same can’t be said for Lucas.  I’m super excited about this and hope all of you can make it and take your kids to see this on the big screen.  Official press release below.

Bryan’s Blu-ray Review of ‘Chariots of Fire’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 11th, 2012

Hi, Bryan Here….

Finally, Warner Bros. gave us the ultimate (so far) edition of ‘Chariots of Fire’ release it deserved.  This film is amazing from start to finish.  It won best picture at the Oscars in 1981 among others.  Even if you haven’t seen the film, I’m sure you have seen the opening title sequence with the runners sprinting along the beach to that iconic score by Vangelis.  After watching this again, I can’t seem to get that amazing score out of my head.  I keep whistling it.  This bluray release is top notch all the way through.  Great extras, amazing audio/video, and terrific film to round it all out.  Highly recommended.

Hi, Bryan Here…

This is just so cool.  Artist Kyle Lambert did a paint mash-up of Toy Story and The Shining on his iPad.  It’s just too cool.  Here’s what he said:  “Earlier this year I began following Lee Unkrich, the director of Toy Story 3) on Twitter (@leeunkrich). As well as his journey to the Oscars with Toy Story 3, Lee often tweets about his passion for Stanley Kubrick and the movie The Shining which inspired him to pursue a career in filmmaking. Having seen both The Shining and Toy Story 3 for the first time recently myself, I thought it would be cool idea to mash the two movies together as a fun side project.”

Hi, Bryan Here….

We can’t keep James Cameron out of the water can we?  Cameron plans to reach the world’s deepest underwater surface which is almost seen miles down.  The dive will take place at the Mariana Trench in the western Pacific Ocean with a unique submersible vehicle and camera.  This is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks and will be a joint venture with James Cameron and National Geographic. This project is to “conduct deep-ocean research and exploration to expand our knowledge and understanding of these largely unknown parts of the planet.”  Sounds really cool.  Maybe we fill ‘Atlantis’.
