Here are my Oscar Predictions. I haven’t seen many of the shorts or documentaries so I didn’t even bother with those, but I have seen everything else that is nominated for the big categories except Call me by Your Name. Also, I fell asleep during The Post, but so did everyone.

As a hard and fast rule, I refuse to recognize any recent best picture winners until a movie comes along that was better on every single filmmaking level than Mad Max: Fury Road. This year is no different, so congrats to Fury Road.

My official predictions:

Best Picture: Get Out

This year’s crop of Best Picture nominees is a strange group but I would remove The Post & The Darkest Hour and replace them with Wind River & The Florida Project which were both far superior films. Also Blade Runner 2049 should sneak in to the 10 nominees. Get Out should win. It is meticulously crafted and it would be nice to see a movie people talk about years from now actually win best picture. Three Billboards From Ebbing Missouri is garbage and history won’t be kind if it wins.

Best Director: Guillermo Del Toro

I’d like to see Christopher Nolan or Jordan Peele win but this is Guillermo Del Toro’s to lose.

Best Actor: Gary Oldman

No Robert Pattison nomination was stupid.

Best Actress: Frances McDormand

Sally Jenkins should win.

Best Supporting Actress: Allison Janney

Laurie Metcalf should win but won’t for some reason.

Best Supporting Actor: Sam Rockwell

Willem Dafoe and Richard Jenkins were 10x better but the Academy loves a white racist who turns out to not be so racist anymore. Also where was Adam Driver?

Animated Feature: Coco

The rest of the nominees are just seat fillers. Coco made me cry.

Original Screenplay: Get Out

Adapted Screenplay: Call Me By Your Name

I actually think Logan should win because of how it elevated superheroes but whatever.

Animated Short: Dear Basketball

Only one I saw.

Cinematography: Blade Runner 2049
Film Editing: Dunkirk
Sound Editing: Dunkirk
Sound Mixing: Dunkirk
Production Design: Blade Runner 2049

Score: The Shape of Water

I can actually hum this right now so it must be good?

Song: Remember Me from Coco.

If this song loses to some garbage from The Greatest Showman I will be very mad online.

Makeup: Darkest Hour
Costume: Beauty and the Beast

Visual Effects: Blade Runner 2049

I feel like people haven’t seen this movie. It is beautiful.
