Hi everyone, Bryan here….

We have an incredible 29th episode of our fun podcast under the MULTI-MEDIA MEN banner called ‘Media-Ocrity‘, where the show is just – okay. Here on the show, we focus strictly on horror/sci-fi, comic books, and video games – basically all the fun stuff that tickles your fancy. In our twenty-ninth episode, titled ‘Bill Paxton is Bill Pullman‘, we talk about The Oscars, Bill Paxton, and how Austin Powers and Captain America are in fact the same person. It was so much fun. This episode is guaranteed to thrill you, chill you, and fulfill you. I am joined pop-culture wizard Jonathan Atterbury and comic book artist Jeremy Megert.

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

THE FILM
The ‘Civil War‘ story line in the Marvel Universe is one of the better story lines in recent memory in all of Marvel. It pitted your favorite superheroes against each other and caused some real havoc, before taking on a much bigger enemy. The day has finally come when that comic book miniseries is put up on the big screen in a very large way with ‘Captain America: Civil War‘. This is the third ‘Captain America‘ movie, and a lot of you will wonder why this isn’t just an ‘Avengers 3’ film since most of the ‘Avengers’ show up here throughout the movie. You might be right, but in a big way, this is really Captain America’s movie that shows us just how Steve Rogers ticks.

‘Captain America: Civil War‘ is quickly coming to Blu-ray, DVD, and 3D Blu-ray very soon. In fact, it will release on September 13th with the Digital HD version being available to stream and download on September 2nd. There will be an DTS-HD 7.1 audio option and a ton of cool bonus features. I’m super psyched about this. All of the details about the release are below, and don’t forget to pre-order to get the best price.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Marvel has just released the brand new ‘Captain America 3: Civil War‘ Trailer, which pits your favorite Avengers against each other. The conflict ignites in a brand-new trailer for Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” hitting theaters May 6! This ‘Civil War’ story line was fantastic when it was released in comic book form and I can’t wait to see what the Russo Bros. do here. Looks like things are grim for our favorite heroes this time around. Enjoy the trailer.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

We have the first trailer for the highly anticipated ‘Civil War‘ film from Marvel, which will basically be the third ‘Captain America‘ film. This Civil War story line was one of the finest story arcs in Marvel from the past fifteen years and ran in the 2006-2007 time period. It basically splits up the Marvel heroes as some pick sides to side with the government, unmask themselves, and report to a variety of government officials.

We’ve seen comic book movies take our favorite actors and turn them into gods, well not all of them, but it’s always exciting to see who is next to take up the mantle thrown down by Marvel and is capable of living up to the inked character they embody. ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ has just tapped Freeman for an unknown part in the sequel. and hits theaters May 6, 2016.

Marvel had a busy day today at Comic-Con. Kevin Feige (President of Marvel Film Studios) confirmed today that ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ will be released August 1, 2014. Also, Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) have finished writing ‘Ant-Man’ and have filmed some test footage which they showed the crowd at Comic-Con. Hi, Bryan Here….

Marvel announced today that the sequel to ‘Captain America’ will be released on April 4th, 2014. This is an interesting move by Marvel since it will be airing in the spring rather than the summer when all the other big movies will be out. Marvel hasn’t done this since 2004 with their ‘Punisher’ film. But maybe with the success from ‘Hunger Games’ and ’21 Jump Street’.

‘CAPTAIN AMERICA’ REVIEW
Don’t get me wrong, the movie was good. We have the origin story of Steve Rogers, the kind hearted wimpy kid that would do anything to fight for his country. Rogers is an idealistic, wholesome idea of the values of America, truth, justice, and the American way…wait, that was reserved for another comic franchise.

Hi Bryan Here…

Marvel only made 100 of these posters which is a vintage look at Captain America: The First Avenger. It even has Captain America himself punching out Hitler which is from the the first Captain America comic book. Plus it has some great looks at all the characters and the Howling Commandos. These posters were given out to the cast and crew of the film in which five of them were given away as prizes at the Hero Complex Film Festival. So I don’t think any of us will be seeing these in person anytime soon, but maybe at some point, someone will be selling these on ebay. Enjoy.

Since the first Iron Man film, Jon Favreau and Marvel have gone to great lengths to show us glimpses of some of our favorite superheroes in subtle ways throughout the Marvel hero films.
Now when we all pick up our copy of Iron Man 2 on bluray/dvd, take a close look and see if you see the references to Captain America, Thor, and Black Panther.
Specifically the scene featuring Tony Stark and Nick Fury discussing the Avengers Initiative, the background of which was littered with an assortment of footage, maps and images hinting at other Marvel properties.
[The first is] from “The Incredible Hulk”, which means Iron Man 2 took place before “The Incredible Hulk.” If you look you see the the crater on the other monitor, that’s the “Thor” thing. That’s where the hammer was recovered. This is just a geek heaven here.
And if you think that anything on this monitors is not something we at Marvel didn’t talk about for hours – you are crazy! See, there is a map up there, so… if you look at those maps, each one of those locations corresponds to something in the Marvel Universe. I’m not supposed to say that.
And if you look on each one, and I know what they mean, but I’m not gonna say it, but I’m gonna say this: Two of them relate to “The First Avenger: Captain America,” one of them relates to “Thor.” The one in Africa relates to Black Panther.
Pre-order the Iron Man 2 dvd/bluray below for a great discount.

Hey guys, Jana here,

In the world of film, there are specific genres that stand out for me and one of those is war movies. I love different titles for a variety of reasons, the story, or even an actor, in this category there is one primary theme that ties each film together – heroes. Their outstanding courage is what gives us that lump in our throats and a swell of patriotic pride that causes us to lift these characters, real or imagined, to elevated heights. It takes a special kind of person to be a hero, I know I couldn’t do it, but I am eternally grateful for the men and women that take up that mantle and defend the lives and freedoms I hold so dearly.

Ant-Man & The Wasp is perfectly fine. Its ok. It is certainly a two hour movie in which things happen. I was entertained by things that happened in this movie, that I definitely saw, but I don’t think matter at all. I love Paul Rudd. Evangeline Lily as Wasp is delightful. Michael Pena steals every single scene he is in again. Michael Douglas certainly enjoys his paycheck. Walton Goggins is wasted, but my face lit up every time he spoke. This is without a doubt the best cast of all the solo Marvel films. The problem with the movie is that it was released at the worst possible time to get anyone to care about it.

A few years later, we have a sequel to one of the Avenger’s more minuscule components in ‘Ant-Man‘. The original film was funny, charming, and had a good deal of entertainment value, mostly due to Paul Rudd’s unique and perfect comedy timing and delivery. Now, after the big consequences of ‘Black Panther‘ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘, Marvel thought it be best to make ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp‘ with a funnier tone and with much lower conflict and chaos. It’s a nice breather before what’s to come in future Marvel movies.

THE FILM
Going into the 18th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, you’d hope you wouldn’t see the same thing over and over that we’ve been watching since Iron Man debuted a decade ago. As the years have passed on by, watching a Marvel movie became something tedious, even though most of the films are fun and enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, Marvel has done a great job with each and every film they’ve put out, but moving into their 18th film, it seems like we’ve seen almost everything and every action scene is something recycled from the previous, whether it be superheroes jumping from car to car during car chases or aliens come out of the sky and destroying the planet. Luckily for all of us Marvel fans, ‘Black Panther‘ breathes new and creative life into a somewhat stale film series in the best ways possible.

Deadpool 2 checks all the boxes of the very entertaining first film to the point you wonder if the script was some sort of mad lib experiment. Don’t get me wrong, letting Ryan Reynolds go full Ryan Reynolds in an R Rated superhero movie is a 90 minute blast just like it was the first time around but that’s kind of the problem… Deadpool 2 brought nothing new to the table. The Deadpool movie formula works to an extent because Reynolds is so damn fun and the first time you hear the jokes and references they land almost every time. Every criticism of the film can be 100% true but also not matter one bit with this franchise because Ryan Reynolds‘ charm is turned up so damn high that you gloss over the abundant flaws because there was a joke that you actually choked on a drink from.

For the last decade, we’ve been getting to know most of the Marvel super-heroes. In 2008, we met Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) when the comic book company Marvel decided to start making their own films with their own company, without the help of any other big studio. It was a massive success, which led to 17 more films that included a ton of more superheroes, including Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man, Captain America, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy. For the first few superhero films, we were introduced to their origins and character, which led to the first Avengers films. Needless to say, that first Avengers movie broke box office records at the time and put in motion a story arc that culminates into what we have today – ‘Avengers: Infinity War‘.

Avengers: Infinity War isn’t just the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie is the culmination, better yet coronation, of the universe to this point. This is the film that will actually be remembered and talked about years from now. Ten years in the making, eighteen films deep, and at least 30 characters so that we could get here. It’s astonishing that they pulled this off. Infinity War, when all is said and done, will likely be the crowning achievement of this cinematic universe.

Admittedly, the easiest narrative for Black Panther reviews is that it is a “game-changer”, “important”, “redefines hero”, etc. Those narratives and feelings aren’t wrong. I think Black Panther is one of Marvel’s best stand-alone hero films. It is right behind The Winter Soldier and the original Iron Man for me. In a few years it may even eclipse those two as the distance and impact it has going forward is felt. I believe the cultural and racial themes of this film are well thought out, focused, bold, and sobering. To be perfectly honest I don’t feel comfortable writing about that aspect of the film in depth. I’m a 32 year old goofy white guy who is not a good enough writer to navigate that territory, plus I lack the experiences that would make my take worth reading. There are some incredible writers who have written on the overall cultural impact of (essentially) an all-black cast superhero film and I encourage all of you to seek those pieces out because they are worth your time. My review is going to focus on just how badass this movie is.

Fifty years ago (to the day I screened Detroit), atrocities occurred in Detroit, Michigan. July 25, 1967 has been a day of woe for generations past and will be for those to come. Spider-Man: Homecoming is a really good “Marvel” (too lazy to explain all the Sony stuff) movie that is hopefully the breath of fresh air the MCU needs. It had much smaller stakes, much more realized supporting cast and World that they operated in, a good villain that made sense, and a finale that didn’t turn into a $45million CGI punching. If the future of the solo Marvel films is going to be smaller universe conflicts that are more narrowly focused like this and Ant-Man? I am here for it. Leave space to Guardians & Thor, the end of the World to the Avengers, and weird dimensions to Doctor Strange. Give me low level criminals that Spider-Man has to fight before a math test to break those huge films up any day of the week.

The 89th Oscars were announced today. These are supposed to be the Best Achievements in Filmmaking on all levels. However, year after year, The Academy and “their infinite wisdom” choose to pick dull films that should never be nominated. In fact, I bet you could go through most of the Winners of each year and realize you only watched that film or performance once and never thought about it again. I’m not going to do a Top 10 in order again this year, because there are just so many amazing films I feel so passionate about, that it is difficult to rank them. So below is the list of films that I truly loved this year. These films will be ones that I watch over and over again, and you should to. I watched 254 films that were released this year (Yes, I counted) and survived to tell the tale. As always, please let me know if any of your favorite films made my list. Enjoy!

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

‘The Warriors‘ has always been one of my favorite films. It still holds up after all these years – well since Walter Hill’s cult classic 1979 film of Richard Price’s novel. I’ve watched it recently and I still love as much as the first time I saw it. This last time I watched it, I actually wondered, “hmmm, I wonder why there hasn’t been a remake of this yet.” Well, someone must have been listening to my inner dialogue, because ‘The Warriors‘ is getting a remake in the form of an hour-long TV series with Paramount and Hulu.

The first film to be put on the spotlight will be a remake of ‘Maniac Cop‘. I know, I laughed at first, then threw my fist in the air with excitement.

Hey everyone! So it seems like my first iteration wasn’t a total failure, because I got another chance to Get on the Stick. Just in case you missed Episode 1, here we are trying to apprise you to some sort of greatness that Boomstick just hasn’t touched on enough. So the goal here is to enlighten, entertain, and perhaps titillate you in a way that hasn’t been done quite yet. If you feel like you may be getting over titillated… turn off that Misty Mundae flick (with this crowd I’m guessing it’s either SpiderBabe or Lord of the G-Strings) and start rambling off batting orders from 1970’s MLB teams. We’ll do our best to keep spoilers at a minimum, so relax. The term “Get on the Stick” is all about getting to work, so no more blather… Let’s get to it!

Hey guys, Jana here,

Jon Favreau has a strong presence in the movie-making world. He’s been in front of the camera, behind the camera, writing the lines and doing nearly everything else, at one point, to bring us the cinematic joys we gladly line up for. In our stadium seats with our overpriced popcorn, jumbo sodas and Mike and Ike’s, we get swept away into a world that, sometimes fortunately, is not the one we’ll walk back to, squinting in the daylight after experiencing the action, drama, laughs, epic heights and drastic lows a well-instructed cast has just delivered, and Favreau is among the best at drawing those emotions from a cast.

It’s very rare when a movie like ‘Lazer Team‘ comes out. It’s over-the-top, ridiculous, raunchy, and very silly. However, it works on every level and I found myself having an excellent time in the theater from start to finish, laughing so hard, it hurt. Matt Hullum and Burnie Burns, the duo that is responsible for the iconic ‘Red vs. Blue‘ series wrote and directed this hilarious feature film. ‘Lazer Team‘ happened because the fans made it happen with a strong crowd funding campaign that ended up earning three times more than what they asked for, and it’s evident in the movie.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

To basically start out the summer of 2015 with a big bang, comes the highly anticipated sequel to Marvel’s 2012’s ‘Avengers‘ film, which is titled ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron‘. It’s been a long time coming too. Ever since 2008, when we saw Robert Downey Jr. put on the Iron Man suit for the first time, we all knew Marvel Entertainment had a huge franchise on their hands, as they teased a big film called ‘The Avengers‘, which put a lot of our favorite superheroes together to fight evil. After several solo movies with the likes of Hulk, Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man, we finally got an ‘Avengers‘ movie in 2012, which made over $1 billion for Marvel and Disney, and was met with much praise and critical success. It was because of this, that Marvel has announced tons of superhero films through the year 2019 that will play into their overall story arc they have been building since 2008. We’ve all been anxiously awaiting this sequel for quite some time now, with tons of posters and trailers that have more than elevated our calm levels with excitement. Now the time is finally here for another hefty dose of ‘Avengers‘ with each superhero returning along with Joss Whedon directing.

As a fangirl, I love comics and dressing up. I love being someone else for one day and let’s not lie, Comic Con is my mother ship. This weekend was no exception. I spent two days basking the glory and adoration that was formerly Sci-Fi Expo and is now Fan Days 2.0! It’s my family, and walking through the doors of the Irving Convention Center is always like being at home. It is very much like a space ship or the Sandcrawler from ‘Star Wars’, with its four levels, an over powering awning, and yet, when the parking attendant took mine and Taylor’s (lead camera) money, we were excited and ready to get out of the car and start mingling with everyone and see what Fan Days 2015 had to offer. I decided to go ahead and dress up, because hey, who doesn’t like it when press looks like someone else? My costume of choice? Totally obscure and amazing! I was ready to go as Special Agent Dale Cooper, from Twin Peaks. I even brought along a thermos of “Damn fine coffee,” and a bag of donuts. Dead Laura Palmer would be waiting for me at the convention, for sure!

Hey guys, Jana here,

While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!

Jean-Claude Van Damme is heading back to his roots. Well, at least as far back as 1989’s ‘Kickboxer‘. Of course, Kurt vows revenge, as any good brother should. He finds a trainer, Zion, and meets Tong Po in the ring for the fight of his life. Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr will reprise their previous roles and Chadwick Boseman will make his first appearance as the Black Panther. Cap’s Civil War hits big screens on May 6, 2016.

Disney and LucasFilm are fast tracking tons of ‘Star Wars‘ related projects, because Disney recently purchased all of LucasFilm, which includes ‘Star Wars‘ and ‘Indiana Jones‘ for a couple of billion dollars. So now Disney is going to make their money back somehow. In addition to the main ‘Star Wars‘ films – Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, Disney will be making off-shoot films to keep us fed until each “Episode” comes out. These will tend to focus more on certain characters rather than display the entire world and story. To explain it better, think of these off-shoots as the stand-alone Marvel superhero films like ‘Thor‘, ‘Captain America‘, and ‘Iron Man‘ with ‘The Avengers‘ being the main ‘Episode’ movie. That’s where we have director Josh Trank enter the picture.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Joss Whedon’s Avengers is what every comic book geek and action film fanatic has dreamed of since they were a little kid. Not only was it one of the most epic films ever shot on film, but Whedon used his wit and unique story telling to weave these iconic characters into a team that destroys evil. You see, it’s not all about the people who form a team and save our planet. It’s about a group of people from different times and different worlds, who necessarily don’t belong together, but realize that by teaming up, they form something bigger than themselves. And notice that I don’t use the term superhero. None of the Avengers refer to themselves or think of themselves as heroes, with the exception of Captain America, who really is the only hero in the story.
