Booksmart – Film Review!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 9th, 2019

“Every generation needs representation and ‘Booksmart’ is a solid addition to the canon of teen films.”

Being accepted into a university, let alone ‘Ivy League’ can require years of preparation. But imagine dedicating every waking moment to the pursuit of education, only to find out your slacker classmates (who have never sacrificed a social calling) will attend equally prestigious colleges? That’s exactly where two lifelong friends find themselves in Olivia Wilde’s directorial debut, ‘Booksmart’. This whacky comedy goes for the fail-safe blunder-year belly laughs, but it also distinguishes itself by spotlighting themes of feminism, LGBTQ liberation and the rarely displayed accuracies of life as a young woman.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Brie-Larson-Movie-Roles

We’ve known that Marvel Studios has been planning a ‘Captain Marvel‘ film for a while but now, we have an idea of who she might be. Brie Larson is the front-runner and has been in serious talks with the studio. She’s the best candidate, outshining previous contenders Emily Blunt and Olivia Wilde.

HBO Renews ‘Vinyl’ For A Second Season!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 19th, 2016

Hey guys, Jana here,

screen-shot-2015-10-05-at-8-21-12-am

HBO’s practice of prepping a second season before the first premiered is a tried and true practice for many of the hit drama series of the network, and it’s being put into use for ‘Vinyl‘, now. Vinyl just debuted on February 14 to enough excitement that a second season is a simple decision.

Hey guys, Jana here,

PicMonkey Collage

I would say I’m a loyal fan. Take Ewan McGregor for example – I’ve seen every film I can find, heard him narrate a piece on polar bears for PBS and watched his motorcycle treks, I even have the book! This loyalty is not spent on McGregor, alone, but a handful of actors/actresses and directors make up my little circle. One of those directors is Martin Scorsese. If he made it, chances are I’m going to love it. So I’m looking forward to HBO’s untitled Rock’n Roll drama series and it’s that series that is making the news with a couple of new actor-commitments.

Film Review: ‘The Lazarus Effect’

by Woozie on Feb 26th, 2015

Suzanne L., Here…

Perhaps it’s just me, but it doesn’t seem like directors often follow an acclaimed documentary with a horror film. David Gelb, the director of Jiro Dreams of Sushi, did just that when taking on The Lazarus Effect, a movie by horror production company Blumhouse. With a talented cast and new take on the Frankenstein’s monster trope, Gelb creates a movie with genuine scares that missed an opportunity to delve into larger issues.

Paramount is Remaking ‘Explorers’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 12th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

explorers-kids

Yes, Paramount is remaking one of my favorite 80’s film, ‘Explorers‘. You know the one where a young Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix, and Jason Presson built a spaceship out of an old tilt-a-whirl carnival ride? Yes that one. It is still one of my favorite movies and is one of the big reasons I got into science, space and film. Everything about the movie spoke to me as a kid, and I wanted so desperately to build a spaceship after watching that film.

Jana B., Here….

Streetmagic-david blaine

There are certain types of entertainment where you can have several favorites. You can listen to multiple bands that fit into the same genre. But when it comes to performance magic, I believe you’re either a Copperfield or a David Blaine fan. Personally, I’m a David Copperfield girl, not the tortured waif. Yes, the one with the hair and the face. Him. So, I never jumped on the whole David Blaine band wagon. After all, there are only so many ‘David’s’ a girl can love.  While David Tennant takes up most of my space, David Copperfield occupies a portion. Anyhow, as I was saying.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Ron Howard’s new movie is called ‘Rush‘ and is a Formula One racing drama that follows the rivalry between James Hunt and Niki Lauda in the 70s. Chris ‘Thor’ Hemsworth and Daniel ‘Inglorious Basterds’ Bruhl will star as the drivers. The film will release September 27th from Universal Pictures. I must say, it looks damn good. It’s been fun following Ron Howard on his social networks, seeing production videos and photos.

Bryan’s Most Anticipated Films for 2011!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 7th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here…

So 2010 is over and 2011 has just begun.  I was recently talking with a friend and we both agreed that 2010 was kind of a let down as far as movies went.  Don’t get me wrong, there were some precious gems riddled throughout the year, but they were not many.  Basically I said, that it was a very uncool year with flashes of coolness in regards to films.

Hi Bryan Here…

Here is the new kick-ass trailer for Jon Favreau’s “Cowboys & Aliens“.  It looks amazing.  It reminds me of early Spielberg work with a pinch of Sonnenfeld and Donner.  This has just been added to my most anticipated films of 2011.  I love that we have Daniel Craig pretty much being James Bond in this film.  at least that is what it looks like.

With the help of the fearless warrior Quorra (Olivia Wilde), father and son embark on a life-or-death journey across a visually stunning universe—created by Kevin Himself—which has become far more advanced with never-before-imagined vehicles, weapons and landscapes, and a ruthless villain who will stop at nothing to prevent their escape.

Presented in Disney Digital 3D™ and scored by Grammy Award®–winning electronic music duo Daft Punk, “TRON: Legacy” hits theaters on December 17, 2010.
