Blu-ray Review: Fist Fight

by Gumbercules9000 on Jun 5th, 2017

Hi everyone, Bryan here…

Screen Shot 2017-06-05 at 3.31.40 PM

THE FILM

Before I get into this, I need to say that I’m a huge fan of Charlie Day and Ice Cube. They have a lot of talent that spans different genres and keep delivering on each film they make. That’s not the case with Fist Fight though, which I must say is NOT their fault. Ice Cube is great in his role as Mr. Strickland, a high-school history teacher who is not above of cursing in class or taking an axe to a student’s desk with a room full of students. On the other hand is Charlie Day playing the straight and narrow guy who hates confrontation named Andy Campbell who seems to be the world’s coolest English teacher, but is lost in this movie.

The ‘Powerman 5000’ Experience!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 6th, 2016

Jennifer S., Here…

MNR1377

Good Day everybody, and so here begins my foray into writing for local music events.  I have been endeavoring to insert myself into the local music crowd in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for what feels like ages.  I’m not sure how it’s going, but it doesn’t really matter.  I have my own aspirations, but when I got to local music events it’s because I truly appreciate the music scene and those that are fighting every day to keep it alive… on the plus side… I get to see bands that I have just been dying to see for what also feels like a very long time.  This past Saturday, April 16 of the year 2016, I finally got to see Powerman 5000 and a few other local bands that are really kicking ass right now; but I’ll get to that in a minute.

It’s not very often I take the time to promote projects via crowd sourcing, but the world needs more books. It also needs more books about vinyl records and their collectors…

Vinyl record blog Dust & Grooves currently has a Kickstarter campaign going on to fund their first book about vinyl collectors and their amazing collections, and they are getting super close to their goal. Check ’em out and throw a few bucks their way, so this book can get published. Because D&G’s articles are concise, thoughtful, entertaining and quite engaging, it would be a tragic shame to see this project not come to fruition.

Also, follow  D&G on Twitter for progress on their Kickstarter campaign, as well as for future installments of D&G.
