Blu-ray Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7!

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 13th, 2017

THE FILM

‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 is  the best season yet of one of the best television series ever made. In this season, all that we have been waiting for is coming to fruition, since this is basically the 1st part of the last season of the show on HBO. All of the big battles are coming together, characters are finally in the same room now, and those dragons are finally able to do what they were meant to do. It’s so much fun to watch.

Written By: Bryan Kluger….

A couple of very cool, indie horror movies are making their way to Blu-ray on November 7th from Scream Factory and IFC Midnight. They are ‘Killing Ground‘ and ‘Darkness Rising‘, which you can read about below. Both films are terrifying and very well made, and I hope the filmmakers are on their way to make more movies. I even got to talk with the director of ‘Killing Ground’ – Damien Power a while ago about his process and inspiration in the horror genre. He’s a director to watch out for. I can’t wait for you all to see these.

Dan M., here….

****BEWARE OF SPOILERS****

Game of Thrones isn’t great this season and its ok to admit that. Come to peace with it. Embrace it. It is still the best looking show on television, with some of the most complicated characters ever seen on screen or page. Even this season the show can reach heights that no other show on television has ever touched, ever. But gone are the reflective moments, the social commentary, the irony, and any emotion. Anyone can make a spectacle. Hollywood is never short on spectacle. You can have a movie with superheroes, giant robots, etc. and you won’t find anyone with a pulse who won’t admit that is kind of neat looking. But more often than not these big spectacles bomb or get trashed critically because there isn’t one ounce of honest character development or storytelling. This is where Thrones finds itself.

Top 10 Ryan Gosling Scenes in Movies!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 17th, 2017

Audrey E., here….

Screen Shot 2017-03-17 at 9.59.40 AM

Ryan Gosling is a true patron for the arts. Proof of this can not only be found in his selective partaking in films with telling characters, but also in his accomplished side projects. There’s his under-appreciated dark wave and gothic indie band, Dead Man’s Bones, and we can’t forget his courageous 2014 directorial debut in the fantasy drama, Lost River. He’s come a long way from his humble beginnings as a Mouseketeer on The All New Mickey Mouse Club, and despite the pressure from Hollywood to keep up appearances, Ryan concentrates on staying true to himself and what matters most: his art. Today I’ve put together a list of my Top 10 favorite Ryan Gosling performances in film and why this talented Canadian, a true 21st century James Dean, is more than meets the eye.

Everyone gets suspicious when new neighbors move into the neighborhood. However, when the new neighbors, Tim and Natalie Jones (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot), are super hot, then what? The Gaffneys’ lives are quite mundane despite the fact that their children are away at camp. The Joneses are chic, publicly affectionate, and suspiciously nice. Angelic Heel Once Again…

The word payback generally means getting someone who has wronged you to see the light and atone for their sins. WWE’s Payback (which could be seen on the WWE Network FREE for the month of May)  more than lived up to the stereotype of the word as the night was filled with retribution and wrongs made right. The power of positivity reigned supreme, false idols were torn down, and what was best for business prevailed. Film Review: ‘7 Chinese Brothers’!

If you like Jason Schwartzman, and you like dogs, 7 Chinese Brothers is the film for you. Bob Byington (Somebody Up There Likes Me) wrote and directed this film that stars Jason Schwartzman as Larry, a pathetic thirty-something who can’t seem to make anything of himself. Larry lives with his dog, Arrow (Schwartzman’s real life dog), and works at Buca be Beppo, although that gig comes to an abrupt end.

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Fox aired the trailer for their new upcoming show ‘Wayward Pines‘, which has an all-star cast, and looks mysterious and pretty frightening. This new series is produced by M. Knight Shyamalan (‘The Sixth Sense‘) and stars Matt Dillon as secret service agent Ethan Burke, who is looking into the deaths of two fellow-agents. He ends up in a strange town where everyone seems on edge and fake. Maybe that’s because the mysterious people who run the town, call people at random and force them to brutally murder fellow citizens. Sounds fun, right?

Blu-Ray Review: ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 4!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Feb 11th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

THE SERIES

I believe that George R.R. Martin was put on this Earth to entertain and piss off the millions and millions of fans of his work, specifically ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘, or as we have come to know it ‘Game of Thrones‘. If you’ve read the books, you knew what was coming in this fourth season of ‘Game of Thrones‘ on HBO, but for most of you, I’d imagine you were quite shocked, which is of course, nothing new in the world of Westeros. With shows like ‘Game of Thrones‘ and AMC’sThe Walking Dead‘, these creators, writers, and showrunners have perfectly crafted a story full of death, betrayal, and blood.

Top 10 Horribly Cheesy Scenes in Otherwise Decent Movies!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jan 30th, 2015

Paul N., Here…

DirtyDancing3-lg

I am not claiming that all of the following movies are cinematic works of art. Some of these films might be considered mediocre at best. However, they do all have one thing in common; all of them suffer from having that one scene that takes audiences out of the moment and makes them groan in disbelief.  This list includes movies that were meant to be taken seriously. So over-the-top comedies and machismo action flicks will not be found as they are created with the intent of being ridiculous.

Think back to 2002 and what we were watching on TV. ‘American Idol‘ had just began it’s monumental first season, Joss Whedon’s space-western ‘Firefly‘ was being aired out of order, ‘The X-Files‘ was ending it’s 9 season run and America got it’s first look at a reality show based on a celebrity’s home-life with ‘The Osbournes‘. Where Marvel-based comic book films have the leading edge over DC-based films, with character introduction and cross-branding, especially  when you take into the post-film stinger that we’ve all learned to wait for, but DC does have a strong point over Marvel with TV serials. I know, Marvel is getting into the small-screen game, too, but it’s no match for DC’s proven titles that have been drawing in crowds from the beginning. Where Marvel didn’t get into the series racket until 1974 with ‘Super Spidey Stories‘ that aired during small segments of ‘The Electric Company‘, DC began in the 1950’s and has kept producing through the decades.

When I first heard about “Hector and the Search for Happiness” I was really excited for “another Simon Pegg movie”, something with slapstick comedy and probably a bad guy that could be smashed in the head with a cricket bat (Shaun of the Dead, World’s End, Hot Fuzz, Spaced). The more I started looking into the movie, the more I realized that it wasn’t going to be just another Simon Pegg film, and became intrigued about what it was he would have to offer if not bashing people in the head with a cricket bat.

You can’t help but love Simon Pegg. His roles in Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy ‘Shaun of The Dead‘, ‘Hot Fuzz‘, and ‘The World’s End‘ are legendary. His work on the recent ‘Star Trek‘ films, ‘Paul‘, and in the ‘Mission Impossible‘ films have been excellent and very comical. That aside, i love seeing Pegg work on dramatic films, because not only is he one of the best comedic actors around right now, but he is also one hell of a dramatic actor, and his new film ‘Hector and the Search for Happiness‘ highlights that.

The entertainment world goes through fads, just like fashion. One day we’re inundated with talking sea animals from every animated company, the next day it’s all about bugs. Right now, culinary genius is taking center stage.

The Weinstein Company began production today on ‘Adam Jones‘. This pic puts Bradley Cooper (‘Silver Linings Playbook‘) and Sienna Miller (‘GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra‘) together and adds a little spice making Cooper a bad-boy Michelin chef who has to change his ways. The project was originally called ‘The Chef‘ until  ‘Chef‘, Jon Favreau’s tale of a chef who loses his restaurant and hits to the road in a food truck piecing his life, and his family, back together along the way. Obviously this can’t work in the film industry an agreement was made and a change of title followed.

Hi kids, Jana here,

  Bibb County GA SHBP

If you’ve read much of what I’ve written before, I’ve led the band railing against movie remakes. Yeah, that’s me in the front with the baton and the megaphone. However, there are some films that it’s ok to remake. Doesn’t make it right, but it’s not one I’ll lose sleep over. The remake of ‘Point Break‘, ‘Roadhouse‘, ‘Ghost‘ and ‘Dirty Dancing‘ are all examples of films that do not need touched by anyone other than slight re-touching to make the colors more compatible with HD televisions. Basically anything Patrick Swayze was ever in should be kept sacred. I use ‘Swayze’ as a verb after all. No one ever gets their ass kicked, anymore – They get full on Swayzed. In short, don’t mess with the man’s films!!

Warner Bros. is developing a reboot of ‘The Flinstones‘ again. Only this time, they want to do it as a full length animated feature rather than a live action one. Back almost twenty years ago, Universal made the live action version that had John Goodman as Fred Flinstone, Rick Moranis as Barney Rubble, Elizabeth Perkins, Rosie O’Donnell, and even Elizabeth Taylor. Despite the film looking cool, it wasn’t that great of a film. And the sequel that came soon after was even worse. But it was of course going to fail, because the movie became infamous for having over 30 writers pen the script.

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, framers and writers of the award winning series ‘Game of Thrones‘ have set their sites on a new project. Since converting George R.R. Martin’s novel into one of the most popular and award winning series, they have had little time for anything else. The demands of writing and executive producing GoT have left little time for other projects. With the fourth season premiering last Sunday, the pair have set their sites on another novel they are planning to convert to another media. This time, they are looking at a feature film, and the book they will be working from is ‘Dirty White Boys‘ from Stephen Hunter. Hunter also wrote ‘Point of Impact‘, the book that was turned into 2007’s ‘Shooter‘.

Ernest and Celestine” is an Academy Award nominated (Best Animated Feature) film, from the creators the “Triplets of Belleville” and “The Secret of Kells”, about the unlikely friendship between a bear and mouse. I watched this film in its original French language with subtitles, but it is also available in a dubbed English format, with a voice cast including some slackers you’ve probably never heard of like Forest Whitaker, Mackenzie Foy, Lauren Bacall, William H. Macy, and Paul Giamatti. Though the French cast is not packed with name droppers (for Americans anyway), they are perfection, especially Pauline Brunner who voiced the darling little mouse Celestine, and Lambert Wilson as the grumpy bear Ernest.

‘Game of Thrones’ Headed to the Big Screen?!?

by Red Zeppelbon on Mar 24th, 2014

Hi Jana here,

george-rr-martin-on-the-conan-show

Author George R.R. Martin has created success with his ‘A Song of Ice and Fire‘ series that has been extremely well received in it’s adaptation to series play on HBO. The small screen may, indeed, be too small to cover everything  Martin has given the production team to work with. Martin said, “It all depends on how long the main series runs. Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger in scope. It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know.”

THE TV SERIES – 5/5 STARS

Nothing has slowed down or become redundant with HBO’s flagship series, ‘Game of Thrones‘ Season 3. Based on George R.R. Martin’s third book ‘A Storm of Swords‘, showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have decided to split the book up into two seasons, which is no easy feat, considering the amount of information in the book and the strategy of where to place certain story arcs. Luckily for us, everyone involved from the cast and crew of the show have flawlessly executed every aspect of the series.

One of the first releases of 2014 is the next installment in the ‘Paranormal Activity‘ franchise, with ‘Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones‘. Don’t confuse this one as the fifth film in the franchise as this is more of an off-shoot of the film series, but exists in the same world as the previous films. This fright fest or lack there of has gone a different route and will cater to the latino audience more than the other films did, due to a dominant latino cast. Director Christopher Landon, who wrote the last three ‘Paranormal’ films takes this chapter in a different direction with tone and style. I have no doubt this small budget film will make its money back times ten.

With the same look and animation as ‘Cars‘, that even takes place in the same world as it says on screen, Pixar’s name does not appear anywhere on screen. This little animated film was set for a straight-to-home-video release, but the powers that be decided they could make much more money in toy sales with a theatrical run, which seems to be the only driving force in this sub-par film. I expect a decent box office gross, but its blandness might make it suffer when it is actually released on home video.

It’s very difficult to give a review of “Star Trek: Into Darkness” without going into a ridiculous amount of spoilers, so I’ll just start by saying that it is a damn good film, executed brilliantly with enough originality to bring in even the most ignorant of the Star Trek universe, but also bringing familiar material that will make Trekkies go totally titillating for tribbles (hell yeah alliteration!)

Film Review: ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on May 16th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

star_trek_into_darkness-HD

I must admit that when I walked into the the crowded theater yesterday to watch J.J. Abrams’ second journey into the Star Trek universe, I was a bit apprehensive and weary on how good it could be. Reason being, that there were no press screenings before the film was released. On the contrary, the actual press screening was one hour later than the regular screening for anyone to attend who bought tickets. Usually studios do this, because they know they have a terrible film on their hands and do not want negative reviews about their movie until the film is out. I thought of two reasons why Abrams woud do this. Either he really did have a crappy film on his hands or in true Abrams fashion, he kept tons of secrets and reveals throughout the picture wanted to keep all a secret until it was released.
