Film Review: ‘The Drop’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 12th, 2014

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The Drop Movie (5)

I love a good mafia drama. There is just something so thrilling and cool about seeing the seedy underbelly of a city and the back door games and scams that the mob plays out. From ‘Goodfellas‘ to ‘The Departed‘, the characters are so well though out and detailed that you can spend over three hours with them and feel like only five minutes have gone by. You could say that a lot of these iconic characters are larger than life itself, which is true, given their past historical accounts of what they did to earn money and gain power. But that is where Michael R. Roskam’s adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s short story, formally called ‘Animal Rescue‘, but now called ‘The Drop‘ differs.

Hi all, Jana here,

endo-silence-full

Martin Scorsese (‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘ and ‘The Departed‘) is one of my favorite directors. This hasn’t been a secret because I rave on his work, constantly. Well, right now Scorsese is going to get the chance to make a film he’s had on his list for more than a decade. I can’t imagine how that must feel to wait for over 10 years to do a film and it finally comes together! The center of attention in this announcement is that it’s for the film of the novel ‘Silence‘. Novelist Shusako Endo had given permission for the novel adaptation to be made once before in 1971. As with everything in Hollywood these days, a re-make is in the works. This time, a bigger budget, bigger stars, bigger director and , probably, a bigger audience.

Film Review: ‘The Raid 2’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 10th, 2014

Hi, Bryan Here…

raid2kitchen

The only thing you need to know  about ‘The Raid 2: Berandal‘ is that you need to run to the nearest theater that’s playing ‘The Raid 2: Berandal‘ and watch it. This is the sequel to 2011’s ‘The Raid: Redemption‘ by Gareth Evans, and is even better than its first literal non-stop hardcore action movie from only a few years ago. This time around, we have a 2.5 hour film full of some of the best action sequences and fight choreography ever put on film. In addition to that, we have one hell of story to go with it, which was mostly lacking from the first film, which I’m not complaining about at all.

Warner Bros. Is Building A ‘Lego Movie’ Sequel!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Feb 24th, 2014

Jana B. here,

The Lego Movie

After the ‘Lego Movie‘ proved to be such a massive blockbuster hit world-wide, Warner Brothers is not letting any of the momentum die down before announcing a sequel. While the details about the coming film are sketchy at best, one thing we know for sure is the release date has been staked out for May 26, 2017, with it being the beginning of the long Memorial Day weekend, we can assume it will be the tentpole for their summer film releases. At this point, this is the only film to claim the release date. So far, the only real thing that has been confirmed is the release date and that it will be the Lego universe. The rumor mill is spinning with whether or not it will be a proper sequel to the film in theaters now or if it will be a Lego Ninjago spinoff.

The Top 10 Gangster Movie List!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 19th, 2014

Jana B. here,

GangsterListBANNER

Some girls are all into sappy romances or heart touchingly saccharine-sweet movies. Movies that sometime contain a troubled family learning to love a curmudgeonly, absent  grandparent, or a shattered family recovering from the death of one of its immediate member. Sometimes it’s a pet that waltzes, unexpectedly, into a tumultuous atmosphere that teaches everyone to love more before it’s killed in some unimaginative way.

I hate movies like that. I hate books like that and I hate songs like that. If a member of a family is killed, it better be a mafia family, and I get to look forward to their violent, bloody and evil retribution.  I am so fascinated by the inner workings of these ‘families’. I love to see the fronts they use to launder their income and imagine ways I would do it if I was involved.

Scorsese Casts Adam Driver in ‘Silence’!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 15th, 2014

Jana B. here –

Martin-Scorsese-directing-on-set-of-The-Departed

Martin Scorsese is a filmmaker of genius levels. Most people have seen at least one of his masterpieces and can tell you some of the elements he usually employs, like the criminal underworld, prolific use of profanity and Leonardo DiCaprio. Using his fail safe methods, themes and switching Robert DeNiro for  DiCaprio is a combination that lands him with award nominations and wins. He has directed many actors into the land of accolades as well. Coming high off DiCaprio’s Golden Globe nomination and subsequent win for his role as Jordan Belfort in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street‘.

Jana B., Here….

Author Jo Nesbo, of the Harry Hole series, is in negotiations for the film rights of the novel, Blood on the Snow, with Warner Brothers. This will be a vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio to possibly star, but definitely produce through his Appian Way banner along with partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Kevin McCormick through Langley Park. The storyline focuses on a hit man who encounters a case of falling in love with his target, after being assigned to take out the wife of his boss.

Hi, Bryan Here….

Todd Phillips might just make that leap into dramatic films after all.  Phillips directed ‘Old School’, ‘Road Trip’, and ‘The Hangover’ films.  All of his films so far have been comedies, that have really had the same jokes and starred most of the same people.  But now, it looks like he might take the helms of Paramount’s ‘The Gambler’ remake, which had Martin Scorsese attached at one point in time.

Hi, Bryan Here….

I wrote a story last month on Robert Rodriguez talking about his plans for the much awaited ‘Sin City’ sequel and ‘Machete’ sequel.  You can read that story HERE.  Well, today Dimension officially announced the ‘Sin City’ sequel which will be titled, ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’.  This is going to be great.  Frank Miller’s story is fantastic and might be my favorite one of the series.  The other stories are being kept under wraps and casting is expected to start next week with most of the original cast returning.  Shooting should being this summer and 3D is a big possibility.  I’m also curious to see if Tarantino will guest direct a scene or two like he did in the first film.

Hi Bryan Here…..

‘Infernal Affairs’ is amazing.  This was the original ‘Departed’ film that Scorsese made.  ‘Infernal Affairs’ was made in 2002 with ‘The Departed’  being made in 2006.  Scorsese must have seen this movie when it came out and quickly wanted to make an American version.  And that’s exactly what he did.  ‘Infernal Affairs’ is exactly what ‘The Departed is, but made in Hong Kong.  It has a lot of the same scenes, characters, and plot lines.  And this bluray release is quite good.  If you are a fan of ‘The Departed’, then ‘Infernal Affairs’ is a film you will love.

Spike Lee Will Direct Remake of ‘Oldboy’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 11th, 2011

Hi Bryan Here….

It’s official.  Spike Lee will direct the remake of the AMAZING ‘Oldboy’ for Mandate Pictures.  Last week we knew there was something going on between Lee and this film, but nothing was official.  But now it is.  This is a huge film for Spike Lee.  This story and original film is magnificent.  I’m fairly sure Spike Lee will do it justice.  Can’t wait to see casting.  At one point Speilberg was set to make this film with Will Smith.  I wonder if Will Smith will still come on to perform and Spielberg might be a producer.  Can’t wait to see.  Read the press release below.
