Film Review: ‘Carol’!!

by Janet White on Dec 24th, 2015

Hello Everyone, Janet W. here…

CAROL

Carol opens with the sounds of screeching train tracks during the title slides. Fade in straight to a close-up of a street vent while an instrumental score is played. The images that follow (cars, people walking on streets, etc.) are warm with a soft glow, just what was needed to put the audience into 1950s New York. The world of The Price of Salt, the novel by Patricia Highsmith of which Carol is based.  Read the rest of this entry »

And the 2016 Golden Globe Nominees Are….

by Gumbercules9000 on Dec 10th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

The awards show is January 10 on NBC hosted by Ricky Gervais. First off, let’s look at something AWESOME here. ‘MAD MAX: FURY ROAD‘ is nominated for BEST PICTURE. It needs to win. It should win. And if does win, we all go streaking. That being said…I can’t believe that ‘Me and Earl and the Dying Girl‘ was not nominated for anything. Come on. It’s one of the BEST films of the year. It’s also interesting to see no love for the final season of ‘Mad Men’ her either. Oh well.

Here is the list of nominees:

Hey guys, Jana here,

 screencapture-www-theknightofcupsmovie-com-1448389469614
Knight of Cups‘ comes from writer/director Terrence Malick and stars Christian BaleCate Blanchett and Natalie Portman and hits big screens on March 4. The production of this project was a little different for everyone involved. Christian Bale just got a character description with no lines, some characters received lines with the option to use any or all they desired. Everything captured on film was an organic reaction to the situations they were presented with.

Film Review: ‘Truth’!!

by Janet White on Oct 28th, 2015

Hello All, Janet W. here…

truth_still

The screen is black.  A broadcast is heard.  George W. Bush has won the re-election.  Cut to a nervous woman, Mary Mapes (Cate Blanchett), knitting while waiting in a lobby in long shot.  <Odd hang time here>  What is she waiting for?  The year was 2005 and suddenly Dan Rather steps down as anchor.  Why?  Thus begins the ending of what “60 Minutes” was. Here is Janet’s Film Review of ‘Cinderella’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 13th, 2015

Janet W., Here…

ella-and-the-prince-in-cinderella-2015-movie-wallpaper_1660098631

We all know the story of Cinderella.  A kind and sweet young woman loses her parents and is stuck with a horrid stepmother and two selfish personified stepsisters.  They make her a slave in her own home.  The beauty of the fairy tale was that despite her circumstance Cinderella remained her wonderful self and blessed with her dream in the loving arms of the prince.  Amidst this story is the magical presence of loveable mice and Cinderella’s fairy godmother.

Film Review: ‘Cinderella’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Mar 12th, 2015

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

CINDERELLA

I’m not sure why Disney is hell-bent on remaking all of their classic animated films into live-action reboots, but that seems to be the case nowadays. With ‘Snow White and The Huntsman‘ to ‘Maleficent‘ and now with ‘Cinderella‘, Disney is banking on popular movie stars to re-energize their classic titles. The problem is that these are not any good. While there is probably a built in audience already and new generations are now getting to see these old tales, it might be financially viable to think about rebooting these franchises. But in order to do that, you must make something that is quality, which none of these are.

2015 Disney Film Release Dates With Trailers!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Dec 30th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

star-wars-disney-570x307

While the world is focusing on auld lang syne and bringing 2014 to a close, Disney is pointedly looking to the future or “To infinity and beyond!” as Buzz Lightyear would say. Walt Disney Studios has given us a wide list of release dates for 2015 including the first Star Wars since the mouse has taken ownership. It’s a big lineup and will, no doubt, bring in a wega-payday for the company. In the last year, three films, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, ‘Maleficent‘ and ‘Captain America Winter Soldier‘ brought in over $700 million world-wide on their own. It stands to reason they can expect the same from 2015. Let’s kick it off with some animation!

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

annie-leibovitz-s-disney-dream-portrait-series-disney-1361373-2000-1300

Since Disney is now in remaking their animated classics in to live action feature films with big name stars and big budgets, it was about time that ‘Cinderella‘ had its day in court. Disney has hired Kenneth Branagh (‘Hamlet‘ and ‘Thor‘) to direct this live action adaptation. Lily James (Lady Rose from ‘Downton Abbey‘) will be Cinderella and Richard Madden (Robb Stark from ‘Game of Thrones‘) will be Prince Charming. Cate Blanchett and Helena Bonham Carter will be the evil stepmother and Fairy God mother respectively. I love Branagh as an actor and director. I just hope this classic tale holds up in live action form. Enjoy the trailer and let us know what you think. See the film in theatres March 13, 2015.

Film Review: ‘Short Term 12’!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 6th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

short_term_12_film_still_a_l

Destin Daniel Cretton’s film ‘Short Term 12‘ is in my Top 5 films of the year. This candid look at life in a big group foster home for trouble kids is natural, endearing, and brutal all at the same time. I was completely moved and fell in love with each character in its 96 minute run-time, and didn’t want to leave them when the credits started to roll. This film is more of an ensemble drama with Brie Larson and John Gallagher Jr. taking the more meaty roles. This captivating film will pull at the heart strings, but won’t leave you depressed like so many of these similar films have done before. I cannot wait to see this again and again.

Film Review: ‘Blue Jasmine’!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Aug 8th, 2013

Hi, Bryan Here….

 bluejasmine_promo1

Move over Meryl Streep, Cate Blanchett has earned the Best Actress throne with this one. Woody Allen is one of the most prolific filmmakers in the last 100 years and despite his age, he continues to push out an original film each and every year. This latest one called ‘Blue Jasmine‘ fairs better than some of his recent efforts and leaves a longer lasting impression than most of his films. With one hell of cast that is comprised of several comedians, and Allen’s beautiful eye that captures the true essence of a city and harsh identity of his characters, this little film might be his best at the box office yet.
