ADOPTING TERROR (BLURAY)

Sean Astin is so awesome in this, but what isn’t he awesome in?  He makes a promise, Frodo.  A promise, to make good films always.  Tim and Cheryl Broadbent are excited to finally adopt Mona, a beautiful baby girl. But when the baby’s biological father starts stalking them, their world turns upside down: through intimidation, manipulation, and violence, he is determined to take his daughter back.  Give this little film you never heard of a look.  You’ll like it.

AIRPLANE! (BLURAY)

Finally, one of the top five best comedies of all time is out on blu-ray with extras and available everywhere.  Just not certain retailers.  This film still holds up today and proves funnier than most of the silly comedies that come out in theaters today.  This was before ‘Scary Movie’ and all the spoof films that we see come out each year.  The persons and events in this film are fictitious – fortunately! A masterpiece of off-the-wall comedy, Airplane! features Robert Hays as an ex-fighter pilot forced to take over the controls of an airliner when the flight crew succumbs to food poisoning; Julie Hagerty as his girlfriend/stewardess/co-pilot; and a cast of all-stars including Robert Stack, Lloyd Bridges, Peter Graves, Leslie Nielsen, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar… and more. Their hilarious high jinks spoof airplane disaster flicks, religious zealots, television commercials, romantic love… the list whirls by in rapid succession. And the story races from one moment of zany fun to the next.

BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW (BLURAY)

Held captive in a specialized medical facility, a young woman with unique abilities seeks a chance to escape her obsessed captor. Set in the strange and oppressive emotional landscape of the year 1983, Beyond the Black Rainbow is a Reagan-era fever dream inspired by hazy childhood memories of midnight movies and Saturday morning cartoons. From the producer of Machotaildrop, Rainbow is the outlandish feature film debut of writer and director Panos Cosmatos. Featuring a hypnotic analog synthesizer score by Jeremy Schmidt of Sinoia Caves and Black Mountain, Rainbow is a film experience for the senses.   Pretty decent.  Give it a try.

THE DAY THE DEAD WALKED (BLURAY)

Any zombie movie will do with me.  I have to see them all.  This isn’t great, but it isn’t bad either.  A group of women, hired to assist with an impromptu concert, spend the evening at an ancient German castle. Unbeknownst to them, they’ve chosen the worst night on Earth to visit, as every sixty-six years, the long-dead bodies of Templar Knights buried there have the chance to wake and feast upon the living.
ELLES (BLURAY)

Academy Award Winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) stars as a journalist researching an article on student prostitution for the French edition of ELLE magazine finds herself drawn to two young women. The stories these seemingly well-adjusted girls share force the middle-aged writer to examine her own life, family and sexuality. Elles is a must-see film from acclaimed director Malgoska Szumowska (Antichrist), whose talent has finally flourished in full bloom.  AWESOME.  Definitely get this.

THE FIRM (BLURAY)

GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS (3D BLURAY+2D BLURAY+DVD)

This documentary was so much better than the actual film TITANIC.  Walt Disney Pictures and James Cameron, the Academy Award(R)-winning director of TITANIC (1997), present the groundbreaking cinematic achievement GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS. Joined by his personal friend Bill Paxton (TITANIC) and a team of the world’s foremost historical and marine experts, Cameron journeys back to the site of his greatest inspiration — the legendary wreck of the TITANIC. During the voyage, you will explore inside the entire ship, deck by deck, room by room, encountering mysteries that have remained hidden for almost a century. Revolutionary underwater robots were designed and built solely for the purpose of allowing the explorers to peer deep into the remains of the once-great ship and bring those surreal and haunting images back to the surface world. Loaded with unseen footage, revealing interviews, and innovative DVD bonuses, this unprecedented motion picture event is a must-own companion for anyone who loves TITANIC.  Highly recommended.  It’s hilarious to watch Bill Paxton/Pullman freak out when he goes underwater.  I know he must have said, “Game over man, game over.”

GOATS (BLURAY)

At 15 years old, Ellis (Graham Phillips) is the most adult member of his eccentric family. His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk). His dad (Ty Burrell) left home years ago and is more focused on his new wife (Keri Russell) and family. And then there’s Goat Man (David Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of stability, commitment, and expanding one’s mind. When Ellis decides to leave Tucson to go to the same East Coast prep school that his father went to, he easily assimilates to his new environment – even gaining the attention of a local girl (Dakota Johnson). But as he re-connects with his estranged father, he finds Goat Man’s influence and his life out West thrown into stark contrast.  Awesome cast.

JEEPERS CREEPERS (BLURAY)

I actually enjoyed this little horror film.  Plus it introduced us to Justin Long.  This evil monster was very creepy and very deadly.  On a desolate country highway, two homeward-bound teens (Gina Philips, Living Out Loud, and Justin Long, Live Free or Die Hard) are nearly run off the road by a maniac in a beat-up truck…and later spot the driver shoving what appears to be a body down a sewer pipe. But when they stop to investigate, they discover that the grisly reality at the bottom of that pipe is far worse than they could have ever suspected…and that they are now the targets of an evil far more unspeakable – and unstoppable – than they could have ever imagined!   Great addition to the horror cabinet.
KARATE-ROBO ZABOGAR (BLURAY)

Part motorcycle, part karate expert, ALL ROBOT!   That’s all i need to really say.  When the safety of the world is at stake, Zaborgar will save the day! Secret police officer Yutaka Daimon inherits a mighty robot warrior named Zaborgar, an invention of his late father. Equipped with super weapons, expertise in karate, and the power to transform into a motorcycle, Zaborgar assists Daimon fight against Sigma, the evil organization responsible for his father s death. But when he discovers a beautiful female robot under Sigma s control, their forbidden love shatters the once inseparable crime-fighting team of Daimon and Zaborgar. Twenty-five years later, the now-disgraced Daimon works as a chauffeur for corrupt Prime Minister Wakasugi. But as Sigma unleashes a new robot menace upon the world, will Zaborgar forgive, forget, and save the world from total destruction? From director Noboru Iguchi (THE MACHINE GIRL, ROBO-GEISHA), comes a hilariously over-the-top tribute to the transforming robots of 1970 s Japanese television in an exciting action comedy that will stir the heart of anyone who longs for justice, love, and mechanized mayhem.

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE (BLURAY)

Finally, one of personal favorite films is on on blu-ray.  I recently spoke with Stephen Chiodo, the director of the film and we talked about sequels, this release and tons of other cool stuff. Check that article out HERE.  This film is really a throwback to old films from the 50’s and what I love about the Chiodo Bros. , is that they rarely use CGI.  It’s all puppetry and costumes and makeup.  Finally the truth about clowns is out! Beneath their smirky sinister grins and wildly patterned clothes are clever killers from out of this world. The “juxtaposition of their toy-store arsenal and malevolent intent proves to be a tasty combination” (Los Angeles Times) in this killer entertainment that will leave you fearing these big-top creatures for good. A spaceship – looking like a circus tent – lands in a field near a small town, signaling the attack of deviant, red-nosed, balloon-twisting psychos from another world who plan to annihilate mankind – by turning people into cotton candy! Luckily, the town’s teen citizenry decides to fi ght back and teach the cosmic bozos a lesson. But these klowns are no klutzes, turning popcorn, peanuts and caramel corn into playful – but deadly – weapons of madcap destruction and mayhem! My highest recommendation.

LEWIS BLACK: IN GOD WE RUST (BLURAY)

I’m a huge fan of Lewis Black.  His angry rants and hilarious monologues are the perfect combination for comedy.  All-star comedian Lewis Black, is back and funnier than ever in Lewis Black: In God We Rust. Jump on for a rant-filled, cathartic ride through the issues of our baffling world, from inept politicians and the shortcomings of technology to the absurdity of social media. No topic is left unexplored in this landmark performance at the historic State Theatre in Minneapolis.

THE RING (BLURAY)

This remake was very very similar to the original film which only came out a couple years before this one.  I really think this was the start to a modern way of horror in cinema.  And one of the starts of PG-13 horror.  This is an effective film and it’s one hell of a story.  The Ring is the critically acclaimed, smash hit thriller David Ansen of Newsweek says “raises some serious goosebumps!” This cinematic thrill ride will keep you on the edge of your seat from the stunning opening to the astonishing conclusion! It begins as just another urban legend – the whispered tale of a nightmarish videotape that causes anyone who watches it to die seven days later. But when four teenagers all meet with mysterious deaths exactly one week after watching just such a tape, investigative reporter Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) tracks down the video…and watches it. Now, the legend is coming true, the clock is ticking and Rachel has just seven days to unravel the mystery of The Ring.

ROAD TRIP (BLURAY)

The 2nd big film from Todd Phillips.  It’s very funny and I think very underrated.  Tom Green is hilarious in it as is Sean William Scott.  When you’re in a committed relationship and have sex with another person…It’s not cheating if you’re in different area codes. It’s not cheating if you’re too wasted to remember it, because if you can’t remember it, it never really took place. It’s not cheating if you’re with two people at the same time, because they cancel each other out. But it is definitely cheating if you videotape it and someone accidentally mails the tape to your girlfriend, which-to his horror-is exactly what happened to Josh. Discovering the mistake, Josh tows two of his college buddies-and one not-so-eager kid who happens to own the car-on a raucous 1,800-mile road trip from Ithaca, New York to Austin (not Boston), Texas to save his lifelong romance.
SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNSTMAN (BLURAY+DVD+DIGITAL COPY+ULTRA VIOLET)

A better film than ‘Mirror Mirror’, but not by much.  In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Charlize Theron) out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.  Looks and sounds great on bluray.

THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 (BLURAY)

I fucking LOVE this movie.  THe artwork, the story, the ridiculousness of it.  It all brings me back to my childhood.  I love it.  I just wish this was the original artwork with the Breakfast Club pose.  From the director of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and starring OSCARr Nominee Dennis Hopper*, this “ghastly and hilarious” (Variety) sequel descends into your deepest, darkest fears as a wacked-out lawman goes after human-meat cutters with his own high-octane chainsaws in a horrific showdown with the legendary Leatherface and his entire cannibalistic family.
TITANIC (3D BLURAY+2D BLURAY+DVD+DIGITAL COPY)

This here is the big ultimate set for you TITANIC fans out there.  The film is so fucking good, yet so fucking terrible.  The acting, the actors, the visual FX, and the detail that went into this film was phenomenal.  However, the story line is just goddamn shit.  Hence it ruined this film.  Experience Titanic in stunning 3D with this exclusive 15th Anniversary Edition. Now on Blu-ray for the first time, James Cameron’s sweeping masterpiece — and winner of 11 Academy Awards® including Best Picture — can be experienced like never before. Immerse yourself in the incredible journey with this definitive collection, including Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, and DVD, over 6 hours of special features, 2 all-new documentaries, a souvenir book, passenger dossier, sketch postcards and more.
