Hi everyone, Bryan here….

It’s official now. Sony has hired director Andy Muschietti to make the big budget Sci-Fi action adventure film Robotech, which has been long talked about. Muschietti made that amazing horror film Mama a few years ago and has just finished the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s IT, which looks incredible and scary-as-hell. Muschietti’s creative team will also join him for Robotech.

If you’re unfamiliar with Robotech, this is a giant science-fiction story that was a 1980’s animated series that has garnered a huge following over the years. Robotech is set on Earth after an alien spacecraft has crashed. Humans have learned and used this alien technology to create giant robots to defend themselves against other alien invasions. So basically, this is a mix of Pacific Rim and Independence Day, which sounds like a lot of fun and with having Muschietti behind the wheel here sounds like the right move.

Robotech has been on the shelves for years, but has finally gained steam when Sony got the rights a few years ago. The Conjuring and Saw director James Wan was approached to directed this future franchise of films, but he opted to go with Aquaman instead, according to THR. Currently a writer is being sought out as this is the next big franchise for Sony. Expect writers and actors to be announced very soon.

I’m a fan of Robotech. I remember watching them at University quite a bit and always wondered why we never saw a big budget live-action remake of them. For those of you who do not know of Robotech, you’re in for a real treat.
