I’m still surprised there is a world where Jack Black and kids go great together, but that’s what 2003’s ‘School of Rock’ proved to be true. Nickelodeon likes the idea so much they have given a straight-to series order for a TV show based on the film. Teaming up with Paramount TV, Nickelodeon brings back director Richard Linklater (‘Dazed & Confused’) and pairing him with writers Jim and Steve Armogida (‘Crash and Bernstein‘) and Scott Rudin (‘No Country For Old Men‘) will executive produce.

We will see Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star that cons his way into a prep school under the guise of a substitute teacher and educates the impressionable kidlins in the glory that is rock ‘n’roll. This idea doesn’t just fit into the category of small-screen adaptation, but Broadway theater adaptation as well. The epic talents of Andrew Lloyd Webber will be put to fantastic use as he preps a treatment that will be ready to bow in 2016. The songs from the film will be featured, but there will be all new material written by Webber that will accompany the soundtrack.

As a die-hard Broadway and Webber fan, I can’t begin to tell you how excited this makes me! I’ve seen several of his shows when their Broadway productions tour and I get hopelessly giddy every time. I don’t expect this one to be any different!
