The Angry Birds Movie‘ made such a giant splash for Rovio Entertainment Ltd. that a sequel has been announced. This one is kind of a “Duh!” move, but I’m glad it’s officially in the works. I think I probably enjoyed the movie more than my kids did, but it was something we kept talking about for a few days after. Read the rest of this entry »

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 7th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan here….

The-Secret-Life-of-Pets-3

It seems like there are a wealth of animated talking animal movies these days. With Pixar, Disney, and DreamWorks releasing ‘Zootopia‘, ‘The Good Dinosaur‘, ‘Finding Dory‘ and ‘Kung Fu Panda 3‘ recently, it only seems fair that Universal dipped their hands into the sub-genre as well with ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘. Universal’s animation studio Illumination Entertainment brought us ‘Despicable Me‘ and those darn ‘Minions‘ to the big screen, which has made the entertainment business billions of dollars. It seems logical for the studio to cash in on the talking animal genre now, since everyone else is doing it, however with an already over-crowded market for these films, ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ may fall short of beating out ‘Zootopia‘ and ‘Finding Dory‘ in both the financial and critical realms. I’m not saying that ‘The Secret Life of Pets‘ is a bad movie or anything. In fact there are some great moments that are funny and charming, but it loses itself in the second half of the film when it becomes an action-caper movie that becomes over-the-top and even drags in its short run time of less than 90 minutes.

Hey guys, Jana here,

Of the many names in the acting world we could attach to ‘Transformers‘, the one that’s been announced, is likely the least expected, and it’s Anthony Hopkins! Not even joking a little bit, Hopkins has signed onto the flick starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Michael Bay.

Of course we are getting a ‘Baywatch‘ reboot in the form of a big feature film, because why not. Actually, that film opens up one year from today and Paramount has released the first official cast photo of the film. You have Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Zac Efron, Alex Daddario, Jon Bass, Kelly Rohrbach, and Ilfenesh Hadera in the new case, and everyone looks great here.

Netflix gives ‘The Punisher’ a Full Series!

by Gumbercules9000 on Apr 29th, 2016

Hi everyone, Bryan Here…

Screen Shot 2016-04-29 at 8.56.00 AM

It was only a matter of time, since Jon Bernthal’sPunisher‘ in the second season of ‘Daredevil‘ was so hugely popular, hence Netflix has just announced that ‘Punisher’ will have its own series. They have tried to do ‘The Punisher’ over the years, first being with Dolph Lundgren back in the 80s. I still have a soft spot for that movie. Then there was the Thomas Jane films, which could have been amazing and a few scenes had their moments, but it was mostly laughable. Put in a few other projects in the mix and you would have a sub-par Punisher movie realm.

Scream Factory is releasing ‘Manhunter‘ in Collector’s Edition form on May 24th on Blu-ray with a ton of new extras. Do you remember ‘Manhunter’ from 1986? It had a hell of a cast and featured the character Hannibal Lektor for the first time on screen. Yes, even before he rose to superstardom in ‘Silence of the Lambs‘. This film also had a killer soundtrack as well. Below is the press release and all the info you will need on the release. Can’t wait for May 24th.

Hey guys, Jana here,

bryan-fuller

Bryan Fuller is a name known for such shows as ‘Hannibal‘ and ‘Pushing Daisies‘, but if you go a little further into Fuller’s past, you’ll find a sci-fi fan first and foremost. In fact, Fuller became a writer with the hopes of writing for Gene Roddenberry’s juggernaut that is the ‘Star Trek‘ universe. He achieved that goal and began his writing career writing for ‘Star Trek: Voyager‘ and ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine‘. Now he’s back where it all started, taking on the mantle of showrunner and co-creator of the new Trek series coming from CBS.

New Trailer For ‘Taken 3’ aka ‘Tak3n’!!!

by Red Zeppelbon on Sep 30th, 2014

Hey guys, Jana here,

taken-3-poster-440x600

I love Liam Neeson. I love his voice, his looks – the whole package. I watch everything he’s been in, yes, even the crap movies. Believe me, there are some really bad movies in that lineup, too. He was the perfect voice for Aslan in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia‘, he was amazing as Hannibal in ‘The A-Team‘ and when he started his journey as Bryan Mills in ‘Taken‘, I didn’t think it was possible to love him more. Then came ‘Taken 2‘, I was excited about his return as Mills, but the film wasn’t the same as the original, no matter how hard they tried to emulate it. The end of production numbers proved it wasn’t a giant blockbuster, but still successful. Then some genius came up with the idea of ‘Tak3n‘. Yup, clever little title and Mills returns again. I have to think he didn’t agree to this after the second, but hopefully was a part of the contract when he signed on for 2. I have to hope Neeson is aware of how bad of an idea this film was but was contractually obligated to forge ahead.

The Top 10 Perfectly Cast Movie Roles!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Jul 18th, 2014

Paul N., Here…

Top Ten Perfectly Cast Roles

The Bard of Avon said it best, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.” Some actors are great, and shine in everything they do (Leonardo DiCaprio, Gary Oldman, Daniel Day-Lewis). Some actors are smart enough to pick roles that best use their limited skill sets (Keanu Reeves). This list takes a look at the perfect pairing of actor and role. In this list, you will find a pairing of actor and role so great that the actor ceases to be themselves and instead makes the character take on a life of its own. These pairings are so uniquely theirs that you can’t imagine anyone else taking their place should Hollywood have the audacity to try.

Hello, Jana here,

beauty-of-helen-mirren-2

Ryan Reynolds is the latest to join Helen Mirren in The Weinstein Company’s ‘Woman In Gold‘ or ‘The Golden Lady‘, not sure which title they are going to go with. Daniel Bruhl is in negotiations, at this point. Mirren will play real-life heroine Maria Altmann,  a Jewish WWII survivor who fought the Austrian government to get back several paintings by Gustav Klimt that were stolen from her family during wartime. Reynolds will play the attorney who took this case despite knowing little about art and Bruhl, will play his adversary.  Looks like George Clooney’sThe Monument’s Men‘ missed a few paintings.

‘Barbarella’ As A TV Series?!?!

by Red Zeppelbon on Jan 23rd, 2014

Jana B. here,

Barbarella

In the world of makeovers they are generally a bad idea if you ask me. However, news of 1968’s Barbarella doesn’t strike me as a bad thing. It could be because there are a few people I really dislike in this world and Jane Fonda is one of them. I’m pretty positive that’s my whole reasoning for being ok with this remake. Can’t stand her, want to hit her in the face with a brick. OK, back to the news!  Amazon studios has taken on the pilot with a script by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade  (‘Skyfall‘, ‘Casino Royale‘). Word is the search for a show-runner is underway in hopes the show goes to series.

The Top 20 Vampire Movies Of All Time!!!

by Gumbercules9000 on Sep 20th, 2013

Jana B., Here…

085 - Evil Ed

I love making lists. Grocery lists. Bucket lists. Holiday lists. Favorite movie lists. Favorite VAMPIRE movie lists. I bet that got your attention, didn’t it? This is MY list of the top 20 Vampire movies ever made. Why did I point out that it was MY list? Easy. So you read this knowing it wasn’t an Academy vote that got a movie on this list. No one paid me to promote their movie. However, I’m NOT against this, just to be clear. Why spend time putting movies in a list? Maybe it satisfies some Freudian lack of paternal affection I suffered as a child. But the real answer is, “Why wouldn’t I make a list as awesome as this?”
