The only way this show will work is if a network like HBO, Starz, Showtime, or Netflix are behind it.  Hunter S. Thompson deserves the best, and those networks are the best to produce a TV show of that caliber. MGM TV and Davey Holmes have come together to make ‘Fear and Loathing‘, which will follow the drug-fueled journalistic adventures of Hunter S. Thompson.

Holmes produces and writes for shows like ‘Shameless‘ and ‘Pushing Daisies‘, so we know there’s talent there and a rawness he could bring to this project. They just need to find the right feel and actor, along with a top notch script. I mean, Johnny Depp isn’t doing anything, but counting his money made off of bad movies, so he should reprise his role here. I’m trying to figure out the angle here. Will each season be based off one of Thompson’s books? Like Season 1 will be his time in Vegas, where Season 2 might feature the Hell’s Angels’ biker gang? I hope so, but we hear that Thompson’s family and estate have fully signed on to make this happen.

There can be no watered-down versions either, as that was not Thompson’s style. It’s about time there was a TV series dedicated to this man, because he lived like most of us dream of and wrote raw like poetry about every aspect of life. I just hope MGM TV and Holmes wait for the right network, because if this show goes up after a reality show on ABC, I and Thompson will roll over in our respective graves and give a harsh finger. Nothing much else is known about the project yet, but I bet we can all try and guess as to who will play the titular character of Hunter S. Thompson.

Please just have Johnny Depp come back. Nobody will be as good as he was in this role.
