You’re never too old for this shit as Warner Bros. is talking with everyone about a new ‘Lethal Weapon‘ film that brings back the original cast. According to some sources, director Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, Superman, The Goonies) would return in the director’s chair with Channing Gibson writing the screenplay. That name isn’t a typo either. Channing Gibson wrote ‘Lethal Weapon 4‘ and ‘Walking Tall‘ with The Rock. This would also bring back Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in their respective and iconic roles.
Nothing is set in stone yet, but all parties have been discussing it, and we hear everyone is on board. Now we just have to get Joe Pesci back too, and perhaps Renee Russo. I hope this comes true, because that TV Show just ain’t cutting it. The first film released in 1987 and spawned three sequels over the years, which have all grossed just about $1 billion dollars. Part 4 came out in 1998, which makes this a 20 year gap if they decide to do a new film. I’m completely all in on this. I love all 4 films, because the characters are so good and it perfectly mixes, police noir, violent action, and hilarious comedy all in one film.
The combined age of both Glover and Gibson is 132, so I’m not sure how many stunts everyone will be doing, but I bet they will have fun with it. With Channing Gibson working with The Rock, I wonder if there will be a part for him in this new film if all the stars align and it actually happens. Again, nothing is final yet, but it looks like everyone is talking heavily about doing a 5th film, which if it does, seriously – get Joe Pesci back as Leo Getz. We need more of him in our lives, telling us how certain things fuck you over, like the drive-thru. More information to come. Fingers crossed.
