Director and documentary guru Alex Gibney is one name some may heard of when it comes to the specialized world of doc filmmaking and for good reason. In 2008, he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary with ‘Taxi to the Dark Side‘ and in 2006 he was nominated in the same category for ‘Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room’.

This time he’s making his debut at the Berlin Film Festival and competing for the Golden Bear with ‘Zero Days‘.  Gibney has done what he’s always done, taking an unsettling topic and blowing it up with scrupulous details abounding. The topic at hand this time is cyber warfare and the effects used as demonstration provide a chilling effect on the viewer.

Magnolia and Showtime have purchased the project, so it will surely be released state-side soon in a variety of formats including VOD. The preview drops us into a nightmare rife with re-enactments, graphics and using the power of the human voice to describe ways hackers are being employed by governments to create viruses that can wipe out every gain we’ve achieved.
