Hi, Bryan Here….

star-blazers

Here is some awesome news. Writer/Director Christopher McQuarrie has just signed on to write and direct ‘Star Blazers‘, a live action adaptation of the 1970’s animated TV series set in space. McQuarrie, Josh Klein, David Ellison and Dana Goldberg will produce, while Shouji Nizhizaki and Paul Schwake will be exec producers.

Film studio, Skydance acquired the rights to ‘Star Blazers‘ back in 2011 and set McQuarrie to write the script back then. According to Deadline, ‘Star Blazers’ takes place when Earth’s atmosphere has been obliterated by a distant alien race, and the survivors have one year before radiation will reach their underground refuge and wipe out the human race. The survivors get a shot of hope in the form of alien technology that can deliver a small crew across the universe and back with the means to stave off extinction. This sounds like a lot of sci-fi movies as of recently.

McQuarrie wrote and directed the amazing film ‘Way of the Gun’ back in 2000, and recently wrote and directed ‘Jack Reacher‘ with Tom Cruise. He is also set to direct the 5th ‘Mission Impossible‘ film too. So I wonder….will Tom Cruise sign on for this sci-fi flick too? Only time will tell. In the mean time, see if you can find old episodes of ‘Star Blazers’, as Skydance intends for this to be a franchise film.
