Netflix is fixing to release a new Documentary series called ‘Five Came Back‘, which will premiere on March 31st. This series will be narrated by Meryl Streep and will feature in depth interviews with filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Paul Greengrass, and Lawrence Kasdan and is based on the best selling book by Mark Harris ‘Five Came Back: A Story of Hollywood and the Second World War’. Spielberg is one of the show’s producers.

The show will tell the stories of how Hollywood impacted World War II and vice versa. It will also focus on five big filmmakers who left their lives of making movies to serve during World War II, including John Ford, William Wyler, John Huston, Frank Capra, and George Stevens. They all survived and came back to make movies about war and their experiences. The documentary is directed by Laurent Bouzereau. This just sounds awesome on every level. I can’t get enough of historical Hollywood and this looks to employ the best of the best.

In addition to this new show, Netflix will release 13 documentaries from the old filmmakers, which are also discussed in ‘Five Came Back‘, including Ford’s The Battle of Midway, Wyler’s The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, Huston’s Report from the Aleutians, Capra’s The Battle of Russia, Stevens’ Nazi Concentration Camps, and Stuart Heisler’s The Negro Soldier. I know what I’m doing March 31st now.
