Hey guys, Jana here,

If there’s one thing I love more than ‘The Blues Brothers‘, ‘Doctor Who‘, bacon cheeseburgers and all things Disney, it’s ‘My Little Pony‘. I’m the mom that waits for my kids to go to school, so I can turn on MLP reruns and just kvell in the happiness and saccharine-sweet images of perky, cutesy ponies with equally adorable designs on their butts. If my butt had something that great on it, I’d show it off, too. For the benefit of those that see me, this is not the case. You’re welcome.

My Little Pony‘ is the next franchise to receive the full-length film treatment through Allspark Pictures, the same company that is doing ‘Jem and the Holograms‘. No, it’s not the Allspark from the ‘Transformers’ film, this Allspark may produce some kind of ‘Transformers‘ project, but no dark bots. Then again, when I hear Allspark, I immediately think of the Tesseract Cube. I’m not alone here with that, am I?

Hasbro greenlighted the production for release in 2017. For those of us that are a bit tired of all our animated films being switched to live-action and kind of ruining the memory (‘Maleficent‘, anyone?), we have nothing to worry about here! The film will be entirely animation! I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw that tidbit of info. Maybe I get a little too carried away with my love of the ponies.

President of Hasbro Studios is “very excited” about the potential this film will bring, if they can tap into every possible screen they can find, VOD and big screens for a start, but there is also the backend deal with rental, home purchase and the inevitable Netflix crossover. It only make sense that the final product will end up at Netflix, ‘My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic‘ is in my queue and gets more play-time than I would normally admit to.

Ice Age: Continental Drift‘ scribe Joe Ballarini is working up the script and Megan McCarthy, who is schooled in the way of the pony with a history of writing and producing the Friendship Is Magic will serve as co-exec producer of the film. I’m stoked for this film and know that I am not alone in that feeling. For the record, Fluttershy and Rarity are my favorites. If anyone wants to send me a set of the ponies above from Pop! By Funko, I’d be willing to take those figures off your hands.
